Review Emperor's Palace - Edmonton

Service is efficient and friendly. The food is consistently good. They always recognize my Dad 😁They also have an underground parking lot . And it's not overly crowded on Sundays.

Lovely staff and beautiful restaurant! Calvin was very knowledgeable and was able to provide us with options for a delicious vegan meal. Large portions and quick service too. Overall great experience, we tried the vegetable chow mein and a mushroom and tofu chinese casserole. - Community Safety #YEG Ambassadors

Always best quality dimsum. Other than regular dimsum dishes, Try ordering something different and we were so satisfied with Liu Sha Bao (salted egg yolk steamed buns) and durian pastry.

I ordered Sumi, sticky rice in lotus leaves, broccolini with oyster sauce, and deep fried shrimp dumplings. (THEY ARE HUGE) Everything was so tasty, as always. THEIR prices are very reasonable, the service is great and my order is always ready on time. The lady who took my order over the phone is VERY pleasant and informative. I paid her with my credit card and she brought my order out to my car when I arrived. Order extra..it freezes well. Just defrost in your microwave.

Got there for 11:30 for dim sum brunch and we got a big table no problem. Food was delicious and service was quick. I had never been here before, but I would definitely come again. Lots of parking too!

Excellent service, great place for dimsum Love the big Golden chair for photo shoot.

Went there on Mother's Day. It was very busy. We were lucky that we arrived earlier and got seated right away. The food is delicious. The only restaurant that serves authentic dimsum in Edmonton.

The restaurant interior is big, beautifully designed, & comfortable. The dimsum was excellent. Every basket of food was freshly steamed & big size. For sure we will come back again.

First impression upon walking through the main doors immediately brought a smile to our faces. What an impressive place. We felt very comfortable. The staff were so very nice.<br/>The bad part is this place has large rooms they rent out for private parties close to the main entrance and the majority of the tables are within earshot of these rooms and the noise/sounds can effect your experience.<br/>Unfortunately for us, there was a very young child being carried into one of these private parties who was very upset for some reason and screamed over and over and over for approximately fifteen minutes and ruined our dinner. It dominated the entire restaurant. A piercing scream that was so loud it hurt the eardrums.<br/>A suggestion would be to ask for a table well away from the private parties IF they are noisy.

The place is not only located in a sketchy area surrounded by people in desperate need for help but the restaurant served tiny pieces of pork bone in my dish that resulted in my tooth getting cracked.  It was the most horrible experience I have faced.  I am left with constant pain and I am unable to chew on my food properly.  Overall, a dangerous place to be.

Gave this a second try after having a poor experience a few years back. It is now under new management (former Urban China) and the difference shows. It was great. All the shrimp dim sum offerings were filled with plump fresh tasting shrimp and not the usual over-frozen stuff. Sui Mai has a fresh ground pork taste. The curried squid was tender and not "fishy". The egg tarts were still warm and delicious. We are looking forward to coming back and trying the Scheshuan items on the house menu. The house menu has something from all parts of China

If I had it my way I wouldn't give this place one star out of five! Garbage service. The servers and manager don't understand English! Dim sum was all cold. Definitely a bomb! Would never recommend.

First of all the food is good and the portions we got were huge. Second, the food took so long to come out during the noon hour, we had to leave in a hurry. It took  a few minutes for one dish and then over 1/2 hour for five to come out staggered and the last came out while I was paying because we had to leave. We packed up most of the food to bring home. The flaw is that they don't have carts like a traditional dim sum, you order off a sheet and they bring it to you. If you have lots of time and aren't that hungry, I do recommend them for the food quality and portion size but if you're trying to get back to work in an hour, it may not work out. I didn't find the food bland as suggested in another post it, was well seasoned and quite good when we got it.

Since we had a good experience the first time, we went back for another dinner.  The service was good the first time and the second time there were too many staff for the number of tables.  The wait staff seemed to hover over us at times, waiting to swoop down to take any plates.  They can also make suggestions for what to order which can be good if you have no idea, or bad if they want to upsell you.  The food wasn't as good this time.  The chicken was too oily and pork dish too small and saucy, but the duck wraps were good.

I really liked this location as the prices are reasonable and the food is delicious! You have to order via paper order sometimes, which takes away from the traditional push cart dim sum experience, but still worth going. This place is great for accommodating large groups of people!

Decent place for Chinese food. The food selection is average. Food quality is decent and nothing amazing. The dishes were average in taste, presentation, and creativity. The interior is probably one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I've been to in the city. It has a very grand, luxurious interior similar to a fancy hotel restaurant. However, appearances are deceiving and the food was disappointing. I was hoping for a grand experience with great food but the food fell short immediately. The food quality just isn't there and you can taste it. Service was just okay and most of the time inconsistent. Sometimes service would be slow & not receptive and other times it would be good. Overall, I was hoping for great food here but the food couldn't meet my expectations

I would have to say, if you want to have some bland dim sum, go here. I don't think the cooks remember seasoning their sauces or maybe they intentionally watered it down. As far as I know, the black bean sauce that comes with the fried shrimp tofu and shrimp eggplant should be a bit salty. Not only did they lack seasoning/salt in the sauce, but the shrimp meat itself was quite bland. There were a lot more disappointing dishes but I think I am going to stop here. 0/1<br/><br/>Service was superb. They were really attentive in making sure we had food at our table. 1/1<br/><br/>The restaurant itself is very huge and the decor was nice. They even had separate a room to eat in if you prefer. 1/1<br/><br/>Price was decent but for something so bland... 0.5/1<br/><br/>I don't think I would come back since I prefer my dim sum dishes to have a bit of seasoning in them. 0/1

My mom called me this asking if I wanted to go for dim sum at emperors palace. I said no because it was not very good from when I first opened to my experience last year. But I said i get to spend time with the family so I went. I can truely say. They have improved immensely. My family order lots. And I sampled everything I have over 35 years of dim sum eating exp from all over. Being a weekday. The place was 2/3 full at 1130am. There wasnt any cart service. We ordered from the menu and they brought it out. So all food was hot/warm.The food today was solid. Portions were great. I have no complaints. Service was good. Tea pots got emptied fast and was refilled quickly. My only complaint was lots of tea leaves in the pot. Strong tea.I went from avoiding the place to "I will go back" after today.

I came here for dimsum in a group of four, and we were seated immediately due to the enormous size of the restaurant. Also, we came at ten o'clock, which is actually considered "early" for dimsum - the prime time would be closer to eleven, or even noon. <br/><br/>I'm going to place the blame on the time we came at, but there was an annoying lack of carts rolling around the floor for a good half hour after we came. Thus, it was hard to get our hands on some food, and the same foods kept circulating, such as dessert trays, which we aren't interested in having three times in a fifteen-minute window, thank you very much. <br/><br/>Their food was average, if not on the bland side. Desserts were less sweet than I'm used to, their sticky rice was less salty. In addition, their char siu bao (BBQ pork buns) were skimpy in the filling. What I did like was that they not only had the BBQ pork bun in the steamed variety, but also one that was baked with a sweet, shortbread-like crust that resembled a sugar cookie. However, the filling was still sparse and this compromised the dish greatly. <br/><br/>Once eleven o'clock struck, the restaurant had gotten much more full and carts were rolling everywhere. Finally we got some of the more popular dim sum treats coming around, like siu mai, chicken feet, and - my personal favourite - the eggplant stuffed with deep-fried shrimp paste. They did these dishes particularly well, Half of my party complained that the chicken feet were far too large to eat comfortably. <br/><br/>Service was always good. We all got drinks and refills within seconds of asking, and the wait-staff actually went out of their way to hunt down the food items we wanted from different carts and bring them directly to our table, if we asked them to. <br/>Overall, it was a passable dining experience, but food-wise, I've tasted better.

I don't know why people hate the dim sum here. I personally think it's better than some places like golden rice bowl or dynasty century palace. As for it being bland I think it tastes normal and not overly salty and full of msg like other places. Nothing more I hate than having a salt headache after eating which is what you get at golden rice bowl. <br/><br/>The prices are reasonable, the dishes come out fresh, and you get free tea!

Not all that good. Went for brunch dim sum here with some friends. The experience was just barely below ok. The individual dishes ranged from yuck, to yum and anywhere in between. But the meal was sorely lacking in fruits and vegetables, there was literally only one dish that incorporated any substantial use of veggies, and most everything was deep fried, doughy, or gooey so I felt pretty gross after. There was a general lack of sauces or condiments (there wasn't even soya sauce at the table) so the food was actually kind of flavourless and bland. The staff was reasonably polite but they felt a little pushy with the food carts, always eager to stack more food on the table than what you asked for, you'll spend a good amount of time pumping the brakes. The only real saving grace here was the excellent value. My party gorged ourselves with wanton disregard for cost nor waistline and the bill still came out to only a little over $10 a person. Where can you get a full meal for that these days? But unless you are dead broke, I recommend splurging a few extra dollars and going somewhere a bit more quality driven.

Food and service very slow. I been to this restaurant few time already ..but I never got good service ...dim sum food come out to slow .....waiting for 1/2 hrs only one come ...all waitress don't know to speak English ....even they know I'm not Chinese but they still talking Chinese language ..
Elvin Lee
It was the worst restaurant experience ever. Very little to no customer service. Food was really slow to come out. Staff and management was rude. The worst part was that none of the management gave a damn.
Stuart
Been here for two an a half hours and still waiting for dishes. Half our party has left already because of other appointments and/or children's bed time. Food is mediocre at best and service is slow and not friendly. Only about 30% of the tables are occupied so they must be short staffed in the kitchen. Maybe they are losing business because the service is so slow. I certainly won't be returning here again.

Enjoyable Dim Sum. I have frequented this restaurant since it first opened. Although the dim sum is still fairly good now, it was amazing to begin with when it first opened. <br/><br/>The first time I dined here I spoke to the manager and was told they began with a five star chef from China. During the first month of its opening, I tried dim sum I have never tasted people. The flavours were clean, pronounce, and unique; portions small as they are for people in China, something not known to me before my conversation with the manager, but it made sense. This must be what authentic Dim Sum taste like in China, at least of a higher quality at the expense of portion.<br/><br/>Sadly the original dim sum as it was made and flavoured by the five star chefs in the beginning are no longer available. Upon one of my recent visits to the restaurant, I spoke to the manager and have found out that chefs have changed over quite a few times. The first opening to the public was met with complaints about small portions and expensive prices. Edmonton it seems is not a city that appreciates authentic taste over price and quantity and with such, the original chefs were replaced by the chefs already working in the city. Yes they can mass produce a lot of food, but it's quality and authenticity that I care about. It's those two factors that leads to new experiences away from the normal food affairs that we have.<br/><br/>As such I am sad to have known that Edmonton lost a unique opportunity at authentic cuisine. Emperor's Palace is still a great place for dim sum. The prices have been lowered to match other Asian restaurants and I suspect at the quality of the food. The people came, complained, and got what they ask for.<br/><br/>I still frequent the place from time to time as a Sunday morning tradition with those who would partake of the Sunday dim sum feasting affair with me, but I will forever miss the food as I remembered it. At least I have the fancy décor to make me feel like an emperor within his palace as I enjoy the afternoon with friends.

Pricey but it was ok. Been here a few times and I never knew the ratings were this bad. i've had shark fin soup, prawns with mayonaise, lobster, cold chicken salad and dim sum. prawns was good as well as the lobster. the others weren't great.

Wow this place is great!! Very spacious, clean and modern. Food choices were great and found the staff to be pleasant like any other dim sum place. Found the food amazing!!!

TERRIBLE SERVICE. NO ENGLISH. AMAZING ATMOSPHERE.<br/><br/>So we came here for the Dim Sum. The food was okay, not the best though (portions were really small). The waiters on the other hand were absolutely terrible. They didn't speak english so communicating with them was a train wreck, that being said they were also very rude. I've been here several times to see if it would improve but I guess it didn't.

Amazing food!. Since we had our office dinner party at the Emperor's Palace last year and the food was great, we just decided to have our second year's office dinner party there last night. <br/><br/>We were little worried as we saw the previous review about MSG, because one of our co-worker's wife would have major headaches if there's too much MSG. But she she was totally fine and enjoyed every dish last night. <br/><br/>On top of that, the food tasted amazing, and the service was great! <br/>The Peking Duck wrap is everyone's favorite, so we ordered it again this year. We had the regular wrap and also ordered the lettuce wrap. We really enjoyed both dishes.<br/>The ginger beef was very tasty with a tint of spiciness. It is definitely one of the best ginger beef I've ever had.<br/>The mayonnaise pork chop was definitely my favorite, who would've known mayonnaise could taste this good when it's warm? <br/>The crispy chicken looked little odd with the chicken head on the plate, but the meat was definitely juicy.<br/>The chicken and corn soup was a very interesting combination.<br/><br/>We had 11 dishes and we enjoyed every single one of them. We all had a wonderful time that we are already looking forward to our next year's office dinner there!

MSG OVERLOAD!!!!!!!. Restaurant looks great and is new and clean....Food looks great and is flavourful now (previous reviewers said it was bland) <br/>Well, Obviously the cooks discovered MSG...Won't return as headaches and chest pain aren't something we want to re experience.. and these were the worst symptoms our group has ever experienced.....<br/><br/>If you don't have issues with MSG...then you might find this place enjoyable..but for those who have sensitivities to MSG and hydrolyzed flavour adding ingredients...it won't be your cup of tea.

Food was so so....the service sucks and slow. The restaurant decor is beautiful but the location is not very impressive!!!

Mediocre Food, Nosy Servers. Went there for both Dim Sum and Dinner Dining and neither experience were very good.<br/><br/>Some dim sum were alright but the shrimp dumpling (Ha Gaaw) was so bland. Nothing special and they keep pushing the same thing over and over again...wish they would give out the self-check item list earlier. I don't like the waitress waiting on me was constantly covering up the bill after I opened it to look at the price and told me she already deducted that free dim sum I got with a coupon FOUR TIMES. I like rounding numbers and she made it impossible. And she kept on making comment on how I can just give 10%.<br/><br/>Dinner began with a problem. Set meals with lobster was suppose to change on Friday but on Thursday night they already changed the menu. Then the waitress wouldn't leave us alone and kept on giving us her input EVEN when we said we needed a moment. Guess cause we went late at around 7:45 and there weren't really any tables left except us and a few others. The food was alright but nothing special.<br/><br/>Because they have lots of people working they do refill water and change plates very efficiently, which I did like.<br/><br/>Overall, the price was alright. Food was mediocre. And servers way too nosy.

DO NOT GO HERE. ITS TERRIBLE. DO NOT GO THERE. <br/><br/>We used to be regular customers. Went there with the family, food was absolutely terrible. Chicken was overdone and tasted mealy (so you know its been sitting around for days), soup was cold and tasted like bamboo shoot water (its a soup that shouldn't have had bamboo). they forgot one dish, and the rest wasn't even cooked properly. Everything was cold when it was served and really quite disgusting. <br/><br/>The "sweet soup" at the end of the meal was cold. Its supposed to be hot. In fact, it was clearly just taken out of the cooler and sorta warmed up - there were bits of it that had jellified in the cooler, and that's how they served it. EEEW. They have NO PRIDE in their food. <br/><br/>We went to them AFTER we paid and tipped (and we didn't cheap out on the tip even though we should have!), and told them that they needed to improve on the food. A woman there overheard, and I don't know what she was, she's not a manager, or a chef, as I don't recognize her. She started YELLING at us. It was REALLY TERRIBLE. <br/><br/>This is a terrible place.

It is a very nice place to eat one of the more modern dim sum resturent in town but the food needs work

Poor service & food. I don't like writing reviews but my dining experience was so bad I just wanted to warn everyone. The dim sum may be okay but avoid this place for dinner.<br/><br/>Easily the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life. Lets start off with service, our table barely received any from our server. After we flagged him down (most of the busers do not speak english) we gave him our order, during which he tried to up sell us several time. But the most annoying part was his recommendation of ordering a "large" version of each dish which we agreed to - not knowing that it was really just two orders of the dish. The server did this on three of our dishes without telling us what a "large" really was. <br/><br/>Our first dish was soup and was okay, but it was apparent that the server forgot to order our cold meat platter with jellyfish. First mistake during the dinner.<br/><br/>Our second course was peking duck (comes with 2 courses itself) and was decent, except for when we asked for more wraps and garnish (literally shredded onions and cucumbers). We were surprised to find out that we were charged $1 per extra wrap (which we didn't even eat because it came out after we finished all two courses of the duck) and $3 for the garnish. Second mistake...<br/><br/>Anyways we also ordered the lobster dish with noodles in cream sauce (which lacked flavor), we specifically asked for two lobsters. Once we got the order there was only one lobster on the plate, by the time we flagged our server down (again) we were already done our entire meal. The server quickly ran to the kitchen, came back and told us that another noodle dish was being made because they forgot, our table was quit unhappy and we argued that we did not want it anymore. Third mistake...<br/><br/>After such a sour dining experience we decided not to tip that much, we didn't receive an apology or any comps for the dinner. The server then made a comment to me that the tip was not even 10% I mean really what do you expect for such bad service?

Great Taste and Service If You Understand Chinese Cuisine. I've been to hundreds of dim sum restaurants around the world and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food from this restaurant. The rice paste they've used for their shrimp dumplings and rice rolls was excellent, and the flavor for most of the dishes (i.e. the spare rib rice and the chicken talons) were fantastic - the chefs in that restaurant don't pour tons of sugar into their food and, for the most part, the food are not as salty as the ones that caters to the European pallet.<br/><br/>The service is just like any restaurant; what a lot of people don't understand is that most dim sum restaurants aren't suppose to be a fancy restaurant, and if you go in there expecting as much, I can understand why people are disappointed (I was at first until my Chinese friends taught me it's not something you expect on Rodeo Drive).<br/><br/>Overall, if you are the type that goes to a Chinese restaurant and likes to swim their food in tons of soya sauce or hot sauce, then this is not the restaurant for you.

Good day for me!. I am really shocked at the horrible reviews and low ratings...because I just ate here today and had a really good experience! <br/>'Im told that the best time to come for dim sum is around 11-12 because it's really packed, and you'll get better quality. It was also Chinese New Year's today so the place was REALLY full. There were 9 of us, but we got a table right away. <br/>If you aren't Asian, definitely go with some Asian friends if you can because not all the servers speak English. It is very large and spacious inside. Yeah, service isn't great but tea gets refilled often which is good. I really liked the food, I thought it was good quality. I'd come back for sure!
East Meets West
Decent by Edm's Standards. Had dim sum several times at Emperor's. The dim sum was good, although the fried calamari was not what I expected. The a la carte dishes (i.e. fried rice, snow pea) were on par with Vancouver.<br/><br/>Decor is more in line with contemporary dim sum resto. Service is what I usually expect from dim sum places.<br/><br/>Beijing might be better quality but also more expensive.
Ikamallie
Meh.... That big shiny golden chair was nice to sit in and to look at haha.... but....<br/><br/>First impression makes you feel great the moment you sit down because the waiters make you feel important, the food tasted decent. But really; the service was horrible; not really much actually. <br/><br/>First time; the make my family feel like we were on pistols when they were dropping off the dishes during dinner time.. Then suddenly our server made a mistake by dropping off the wrong item and not telling us what it is. Accuses us for eating it.<br/>"You didn't even order this! WHY DID YOU EAT IT!?"<br/><br/>Second time.. Man our waiter wearing a nice black suit made me feel like unwanted when I was eating my dinner.. His glare was just so visible; he didn't even bother to give a smile; he had a straight face the whole time haha... I felt uncomfortable I couldn't even finish eating.<br/><br/>Majority of the workers don't really care about working there. Asian Gang Members under cover. So if you plan to go, don't expect much out of this place. They don't really care about service; or even show any dignity to customers.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Edmonton. We went here for dimsum overall good experience. It feels like you are in the fancy restaurants in asia. My in-laws who did a tour around China even commented that this is about the same caliber as the restaurants that they went to. The service was good, carts were a bit slow but it was because we were there too early. Dimsum choices are different from most dimsum places in the city. We ordered friedrice with seafood and it was so tasty and generous. If you want the greasy and 'americanized' chinese food go to Good Buddy or Lingnan but if you want authentic try this place.
Mike Cheung
I have been here twice both times it was great dim sum and my tea pot was full.
Nicolausk
Me speaky Engrish. Nobody speaks English in the joint. We had no way to communicate with the staff at all. My water wasn't refilled once, and the service terrible overall.<br/><br/>Food wasn't bad, but terrible dim sum experience.
Maelstromme
BAD Dim Sum experience. To think I joined urbanspoon just to write this review.....but HOLY COW this place is abysmal. <br/><br/>Went there today for dim sum (a party of 8). Service is an ABSOLUTE JOKE! They only have a few dim sum carts in circulation, clearly not enough for the amount of people there! <br/><br/>We waited 10 minutes before we could get tea, and even longer until a cart came within a reasonable distance, even then, they were out of the popular items. However, if you like tripe, this is the place to go, this seems like the only thing they had plenty of!!!! It got so bad my brother had to find someone and placed an order for har gow and sui mai. We were constantly flagging down one of the guys in a suit. The food was good, some items were exceptional, while others were suprisingly bland.<br/><br/>We spent over an hour there and I left hungry...other customers were upset as well and complained to the manager. Being chinese, I've been to dim sum many many times from San Francisco to Vancouver...etc., and this was easily the WORST one I've been to. I cannot imagine these guys will be in business for long.<br/><br/>On a positive note, the restaurant itself is very nice, and has a wonderful decor. The washrooms were also exceptionally nice and clean.
Tuxandtales
Decent dim sum. While it might not win any culinary medals, the dim sum at Emperor's Palace has been fine both times I have been there. The dishes have been hot and fresh, and the egg tarts are particularly nice. The service has been quick and friendly, with hot tea constantly being replenished.
ILoveTazer19
Don't know how to run a business. You will be impressed upon walking in at the decor. But that's about the only good thing.<br/><br/>Upon seating, your chances of finding dirty utensils are extremely high. Every one of us had something that was dirty, and even if it looks clean, pick up a spoon and feel it. I suggest that the first thing you do is take some tea and clean everything HK style. <br/><br/>Service, where do I begin? Oh, there was none! What a JOKE! These people do not know how to run a restaurant. Don't be fooled by their suits and well coordinated outfits! The suit wearers are pathetically rude, we asked for new utensils because obviously they were dirty (there was a huge chunk of food still on the bow!) Not surprisingly, when we explained to the waiter we were received a rude response "yes I know! I'm trying to find a pen for you!" and he left, ironically not giving us a pen. <br/><br/>After desperately trying to get the attention of a waiter to put our dim sum order in, we finally got their time of day! When they bring out the orders, they honestly have no idea which table ordered it. I had to laugh at the constant exchange of "do you know who ordered this?". They have been around for a good half year and they still have no idea where the orders go. Mind you this was on a weekday and no even half the restaurant was full. We went a while back on a long weekend and the place was packed. Normally other restaurants take your name and the amount of people. They gave out raffle tickets and I can honestly say they had no clue who was there first. They just screamed out "table for x people!" and a mob of people would go claim it.<br/><br/>Finally, food. The food itself is alright, its not the best and you're better off going somewhere else in Chinatown. We ordered a "lunchtime special" pan fried beef flat rice noodle, and that was one of the smallest plates I have ever seen. Four of us shared it gave us all one bowl each...and you know those small bowls you get at Chinese restaurants. Enough said.<br/><br/>I have to laugh at their pathetic attempt to be an upper class Chinese restaurant. Obviously they do not know what it takes to run restaurant. As I was leaving, behind their big emperor chair there is a glass room, and inside there they stored liqour and other beverages. What??? This restaurant is pathetic and an absolute joke. Take your business across the block to Urban China.

The worst restaurant ever!!. The food was SO HORRIBLE!! The waiter ruined my leather jacket with the stupid sauce. No apology made! The manager doesn't know how to speak ENGLISH! Unbelievable. Not recommend anyone to go three even dim sum or dinner. You will waste your money!!!

Good Experience!. I recently attended a birthday dinner at Emperor's Palace. I must say it was a very eligant and delightful experience. As soon as I walked in I was greated at the door and promptly escorted to my table. The decor was very elabrate. The food was real authentic chinese cuisine with a large selection for dim sum. The service was very speedy considering the number of guests. The staff was polite and attentive, I would definitately recommend this restaurant for a party or just a dinner for two.
Hotsauce
Very good. I went to eat dim sum and thought it was great!! Can't understand what the complaints are. I would have to say in Edmonton, this restaurant has the better tasting dim sums.

The Emperor has no clothes. It's a good looking resturant for sure. But agreed.... food is ok and service is terrible. Worse than the usual. Funny how there guys in suits and waiters in yellow cumberbunds but there's one dude has a raggety shirt with holey jeans assisting in seating people and working the front computer.<br/><br/>When you have patrons decending upon the dim sum carts, you know you are not serving and food is super slow. The "lady" from the large table behind us jumped on a dim sum cart and "dragged" the server back to their table and then proceeded to take everything off the cart. <br/><br/><br/>The sticky rice was soooooo tiny it was the width of a thick thumb (3) and when one of us ordered the fried shrimp tofu. The first waiter we asked told I we couldn't order. The second said we could. We got fried tofu minus the shrimp and the charge was $6. <br/><br/>Don't get me started on the parking. Unfortunately I'll have to stamp this resturant DNR.
Cheesecakes
Did that just happen?. The venue is very nice and spacious but that seems to be the only highlight i can think of. Service is pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant, tea pots were filled regularly. But what makes this place so bad has to be the food. I used to think that dim sum was pretty standard from place to place i go (never really had a good or bad exerience at dim sum). After going to this place that all changed. Never have i had dim sum so bad that i couldn't or want to continue my meal. The Siu long bao that they made was pasty and would stick to the tops of your mouth and the fillings were just mush, the har gao would fall apart just by picking them up with chopsticks and it seemed like everything was under-seasoned and bland. This all makes me really sad. I really wanted to like this place... the environment is clean and modern, somewhere i would like to eat with friends and family. But no the food sucks.

Pricey, long waits, and BAD service. The first thing I noticed was that the decor is very nice when you enter. The golden throne looks awesome and the restaurant looks cleaner than most asian places in China town. <br/><br/>I went there twice. The first time was 2 weeks after the grand opening and they said the wait was going to be an hour or more for a table so I just left.<br/><br/>The second time I went back there was late in the afternoon where I didn't have to wait for a table. There wasn't much food going around so I had to order everything on a piece of paper, and even then I didn't get everything I ordered. I got fed up with waiting and eventually just left. The food overall tasted ok, nothing special.<br/><br/>Thier service is terrible, wait times are bad and the dim sum seems to be more pricey than most places in Chinatown.<br/><br/>The only thing I did like was that some of the waiters were walking around offering food because nothing was coming our of the kitchen.

After 40 minutes waiting, we finally got our soup. Then, the waitress told us that they were out of the fish we ordered... (Why can't she find out earlierrrrrr?!) Next, the deep fried squids arrived with a lot of mix vegetable... (Wait! We had to send it back to the kitchen, because there was not taste at all.) Finally we asked for the bill which didn't exactly match the menu prices and overchaged us 2 extra rice.... I am definately not goinging back again.

Avoid & save your time and money. This is the perfect example of a restaurant who spent WAY too much money on the decor and not enough on training the staff or hiring better servers. On a decor point of view, it looks fabulous. Almost like one of those fancy restaurants in Hong Kong. But when it comes to the food and service, it's just awful. Food always comes out late. Don't expect to leave this place feeling full unless you want to stick around for 3+ hours but thats being generous. Taste is mediocre...nothing special. Service was horrible! They actually ran out of a couple main ingredients from some meat dishes we ordered so to make us happy, they decided to give us a complimentary dish. Which was what, you ask? Stir-fry lettuce. No meat. I think we maybe had 2 meat dishes the entire night. On top of that, they didn't give us TWO separate complimentary dish between the two tables we had. Instead, they decided they should SPLIT the dish right in front of our eyes! Our server was about to give us orange slices to pass the time but by then we were upset & declined. So she decides to take a piece for herself as she takes it away into the kitchen. Talk about the worst service ever. Avoid at all costs. Maybe they will improve in the future but it's looking very grim for this restaurant. Looking nice does not compensate for the terrible service and food.

First Impressions are Usually Wrong.... This restaurant seemed very elaborate and we were willing to try it out due to the promise in decor and cleanliness. The gigantic glass doors, resembling a gate into the Royal family's home was somewhat intimidating but my family and I ventured on. The waiting room was massive but no one was waiting nor was anyone at the reception desk. The dining room was busy and the aroma of food was very faint due to the spacious restaurant. A very cool display of a golden throne amused us while we waited for someone to notice us. It was not that long of a wait but it was somewhat awkward. <br/>A lady came and showed us to our table. However, as my family of four sat down to enjoy their highly proclaimed Dim Sum, we realized this was quite a big mistake. <br/>The layout for the seating was very poorly thought out, as the carts with the Dim Sum goodies were unable to be pushed towards every single table. It seemed as if they tried to squeeze in as many tables as they can, without regarding the amount of pathway space needed for the carts to arrive at each table. Due to this, communication was even harder because the cart ladies had NO IDEA how to speak English or Vietnamese. Usually, at dim sum, we would just point at what we want from viewing the cart but because of the confusing table setup, that was not an option. I had to stand up and walk over to some carts a couple times and that was a hassle because there was barely any room to walk. We managed to order a few dim sum dishes but there was really nothing unique or special about them. They had the most popular dishes such as shrimp dumplings, Sui Mai, rice cakes, steamed buns, spare ribs and chicken feet; the taste was just standard.<br/>Service was basically chaotic and one of the things that bothered us. Food was delayed, and we sat there with empty bamboo steamers, staring at each other and watching the servers and waitresses scramble to get orders out, clean, and seat people down. We also noticed that the servers kept messing up orders and informally went from one table to the next asking if the customers ordered the certain dish. We were embarrassed for them...<br/>We left without dessert and unsatisfied tummies. =(<br/>Not coming back here again, for dim sum or dinner service.

Worst Service EVER!. Went there for dimsum on Saturday. There was a deal going on for $2.99 dimsum on small, medium and large items. That was cheap for dimsum. Interior decorations of the restaurant was aweomse. Food portion was small compared to other dimsum restaurant, but as the title say above, service is BAD! We were sat at the back of the restaurant by the washroom. Dimsum carts are being pushed around, but never comes in for us to see. Tables were kinda close together giving no room for carts being pushed in so the server pushing the carts just stands like 2 tables from us and pretty much screams what she is carrying in the cart. And another thing, just because I look like chinese, don't mean I can understand chinese. Because there was that deal, I thought of going in and trying it with my family, but I would never come here again for dimsum. Hope diner is not as bad.

Worst Dim Sum Experience Ever.. I've never been to a restaurant where you get what you don't order, or you don't get what you do order. But apparently this is considered acceptable for the manager. I should have expected this before I went in.<br/><br/>Before I went into the restaurant, the manager yelled at a man who got locked in the washroom, calling him stupid in front of all of the people waiting. The manager also was calling people to come in, not based upon what numbers were being given, but rather, who was complaining the most. He didn't even know how many people was associated with each number. <br/><br/>We ended up getting two plates of food in a hour and a half, with the manager giving us food that we didn't even order, telling us that all that was important was that "We got to eat food." I will never come back this place again.

Walked in hungry, walked out hungry and angry. Went there for dim sum today, marked down our order, waited for 1.5 hours, no food came, walked out, went to eat at garden bakery. Asked the manager wtf happened and just got brushed off, what a joke of a "restaurant".

Don't waste your time. Went here for dim sum with the family. <br/><br/>It's hard to provide a review of the food since we didn't get any. Waited an hour to get a table and then sat for 1.5hrs to only get 1 of the dishes we ordered. No apology or explanation provided when we tried to follow up on our order. We eventually had to leave and go to the restaurant across the street.

Disappointed. The food was good. the decor nice and different from the usual chinese restaurants. it was very hard to order because we did not know how to speak chinese and the staff that we talked to do not speak english. the staff also were not as attentive to us and since no one in our table looks chinese so they look apprehensive in approaching us. the food that we ate (which we grabbed from the carts) tasted good but was not enough. hopefully, next time we eat there, we will be served much better.

Very impressed!!! Clean and luxurious decor adds the pleasure to my visit. My family had a verryyy good time. Food tastes great, and serving was pretty fast. I would definitely come back!!! One of my favourite restaurants!!!

Mixed feelings. I have been here three times, once a private catered event, then for dinner and finally for dim sum. The owner boasted about the talented chef from Vancouver. He didn't disappoint at the catered event; my extended family thought it was some of the best Chinese food in Edmonton (we're all Chinese). But then we were thoroughly disappointed the following week at a dinner with some fairly standard menu items. This was overshadowed by some very incompetent servers who didn't seem like they had been trained at all. Finally, there were some interesting takes on the standard dim sum dishes, like the "kaya buns". Again, the service was slow yet chaotic. I won't go back until they've worked out the bugs.

Over-priced dimsum. That has portions smaller than traditional quantities (3 instead of 4). They are missing standard staple dishes and what they do have isn't even above par to the other restaurants. They dont meet standards nor break any new ground. The only thing worth looking forward to is probably the new and expensive decor.

Place looks amazing when we walked in , when we ordered, food took a while to come out , they forgot one of our dishes even tho we only ordered 3 items. Bill came to 40 bucks , kind of expensive but food actually tastes pretty good .

There are multiple aspects that go into the value of a restaurant. Paramount is the food, the ingredients, the cooking styles and the presentation go a long way into detailing a good or bad restaurant. Here Emperor's Palace has provided excellent food with proper authentic cooking techniques and fresh ingredients. We were impressed by the size of the shark's fin but also the intricacy of flavours concocted from the soup and the hot pot dishes. One however cannot discredit the service, the ambiance and the price as other important factors that go into the value assessment either; something that Emperor's Palace unfortunately forgot about. We felt sorely dismissed and ignored when initially arriving and while that was eventually rectified it does leave a sore taste in one's mouth, especially when dining out at a supposed fine dining establishment. Overall Emperor's Palace has the food to contend with the best of Chinese restaurants in town but needs to deliver better on its service and experience to retain its customers.

Mom chose Emperor’s Palace as the destination, although I had warned her of the atrocious rating is has on Urbanspoon. Granted most of those were probably based on diner’s dim sum experience, but ratings are ratings. Walking in, you’re faced with a bunch of stacked chairs to your left (an open storage space?) and to your right, the Emperor’s golden chair. The restaurant’s office is straight in front, paperwork lying around and a computer in open view. A bit odd
but okay. We arrived for an early dinner so the restaurant was only occupied with a few tables. Service was quick and very attentive. The menu is extensive so if you’re looking for something new to try...

Nothing in the dishes quite stood out at me, so this is just another average Chinese restaurant. However, the service was up and down throughout the meal. At one point, we were out of water and tea, and it took forever to flag down a waiter..
Nomnomnom
So call up your friends and head out for some decent dimsum... just don't sleep in too much, as dim sum service stops around 2pm.

Emperor's Palace, for all accounts and purposes, looks like a great place to have dinner or dim sum. Sadly, this is not the case.

I asked a Chinese coworker for dim sum recommendations and he said although none of the restaurants here could compare with the ones in Vancouver, he thinks Emperor's Palace comes closest in terms of ambiance and quality. Indeed the place is quite large with nice decor and is probably a good choice for banquets. Each table is given a small box of tissue instead of napkins. I wasn't too happy about that though, since I prefer big thick napkins over super thin one-ply tissues. The first item to come around in the carts was durian pastry. The strangely bright yellow puffs didn't look nearly as good as the ones from Rainflower , but I decided to give them a try anyway. The pastry was very oily, but the filling was quite good despite being a bit weak in flavour. The steamed chicken feet and shrimp dumplings were standard with decent portions. The lobster congee special ($10.88) was a really good deal. I thought they would skimp on the meat, but there were several large chunks of lobster in
