First time here. I did not experience the bad things others have mentioned. Maybe change of management and/or staff? Anyway. If you are hungry, this is the place! The choices are crazy. There were three of us. If I can remember, we had: chicken, beef, lamb, squid, shrimp, black fungus, mushrooms, water cress, tripe, beef tendon, broccoli, spring rolls, green onion cakes. We each had different soup bases. I had the standard. One friend had the Tom Yum and the other curry. My friends were East Indian and they liked their bases. Next time I'll go for one of those two. They have a crazy big dipping sauce station. Even included the salty shrimp paste that I just love. Warning. They have large portions so go easy at first, you can always order more as it's all you can eat. We thought we ordered just a little, but we barely ate it all. We forgot to order noodles and it's a good thing we didn't. Like another poster said, if you want noodles, order them last. Frankly, as much as I love noodles, I wouldn't bother. The downers were: the squid tentacles were a bit chewy and the shrimp were whole - tasty, but I personally don't want to hassle of ripping off the head and peeling the shell, I'm too lazy. Service wasn't stellar, but not bad either. They did seem pushy with ice cream LOL. We would have gone for it, the but we were sooooo stuffed and needed to get going. So, one Chinese-Canadian dude with his two East Indian friends left real happy!
The lunch option here is one of the most value-for-money options in all of Edmonton! For $15, you get your own mini pot, 5 options, a salad bowl and some dessert too!
When in doubt for hot pot, I always go chicken broth. The trio spices broth tasted quite similar to the chicken broth though perhaps with a tiny bit more dimension in terms of flavour.
Premium beef/sliced beef are a must with hot pot! I found the wonton noodles to be too soft. My favourite would be the sweet potato noodles--perfect texture.
The sauce bar is a mini wonderland for condiment lovers! With over 20 options, you can mix and match whatever sauces you want to accompany your hot pot. I always go for the sesame oil + salt + chilli OR peanut butter sauce + chilli oil + coriander.
I will definitely be coming back!
Hubby and I go once a week. They are always friendly and service is always good. They always check up on us to make sure we have enough food. We’ve tried other hot pot restaurants before but the soup base is just not as good Asian Express. The all you can eat is always good if you are hungry, but if not after 9:30 the 5 item has great value.
Lunch Hot Pot with Rice Noodles, Lobster Ball, Tripe, Beef, Lamb and Fried Wonton, Ice cream
So there's 2 locations in Edmonton of AEHP and I like the dt one the best. Lunch and late night price for 5 items is 14 bucks and if you look at all the stuff you get, it's a cray deal. There's so many options here that you can't really go wrong with what you pick. I like some sort of red meat, love tripe and some random ball to throw into the satay soup. So good yo. The 14 dollar lunch come with ice cream as well. So dope. On this special day I got fried mantou for free too. It's like a chinese timbit size thing you dip into condensed milk dip. The fried wonton was meh, but I was so hungry i couldn't wait to eat while waiting for my meat to cook. Service was fast, friendly and had to shoutout to how big the water glasses were here. Rarity in an asian restaurant.
Located just off 100st and 105 ave, it's in a rough neighborhood. Don't let it stop you from getting good eats though. I typically hate hotpot because paying roughly around 30 bucks to cook your own food is the dumbest thing to me. $14 for more meat than most pho places and ice cream. Good times! Lunch goes from 11 to 5pm too! Someone don't tell management what typical lunch times are. If you don't finish your broth, you have the option to take it home! Sip on some soup later on in the cold winter nights. So leave your jacket in the car and make whatever dipping sauce you like and enjoy hotpot on the cheap.
Sal says: Just Try It (3.5/5)
Hot pot, for those uninitiated, is essentially fondue's Asian cousin. Its name is pretty self-explanatory -- a "hot pot" of broth is used to boil meat, seafood, noodles, vegetables, etc. Basically any ingredient that you like, just throw it in there. For my family, we usually eat hot pot at home for special occasions. The past few years, we've transitioned to having turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas but I remember the days where we would celebrate around hot pot.
If you have never had hot pot its basically Asian fondue. same principle anyways, you and some friends are huddled around a pot of boiling broth, you cook your food as you go. It's all about dining at a leisurely pace, free range of eating and food cooked as fresh as it gets. in the categories of the actual dining, Asian express is as good as it gets. ingredients are fresh and fairly high quality, but more importantly, skies the limit for selection. There is seemingly endless variety, in the ingredients, the broths and the sauces available to the diner. I really can't overstate the selection here, its actually crazy, and if you have ever wanted to try anything a bit on the unusual side but have never had the inclination to go out of your way for it or order it as your whole meal this place poses the opportunity to experiment without making a big commitment to the meal. so if you want to try out pig intestines for example, just toss it in there and if its not your cup of tea (or cup of intestines) then just stick with the other items you ordered.
The only area that Asian express loses points with me over is the dining area. Ideally with something like this the social component is key, but the dining area is kind of tightly packed. There's not the level of comfort you would want in a place if you intend on taking your time and enjoying the experience.
Overall a very VERY good experience. I will be back.
This was our first time having hot pot and we were not disappointed. everything was fresh & the broth was absolutely delicious. highly recommend.
This is by far the best hot pot restaurant chain as they have the freshest meats and vegetables and they dont compromise on the quality of food as other all you can eat places. They renovate and keep up to date you can really see the effort in their hard work.
One of the more older hot pot places in town that have been around for a long time. Smaller place, but still good. Good variety and assortment on the menu, similar to most hotpot places. Good alternative for hotpot if you haven't been.
We went here for my daughter's birthday party dinner. One of the owners greeted and seated us. Realizing that we had not been to a hot pot restaurant before, he also became our guide. The menu is extensive and everyone should be able to find something that works for them. Three of us had a bit of a wait for our 3 younger guests to arrive so we ordered a few appetizers to tide us over: deep fried peanuts, spring rolls, deep-fried wontons and green onion cakes. They were delivered hot, fresh and fast. The one cold appetizer we ordered, garlic cucumbers, was addictive. Once the rest of the party arrived, it took us a bit of negotiating with the helpful staff for our two senior guests to get the idea of what you order and how you eat hot pot, but once we figured out which broth would work for each (one spicy and one adamantly not) it was fine. The rest of us ordered our broth choices, szechwan and curry. It's important to note that each person gets their own soup pot to dip and cook their choices of food in. No communal pot of soup! The food comes out fast and you cook most things in the broth and optionally dip it in sauces from the large sauce bar. We had so many items it's hard to list them all, octopus, beef, chicken, tofu, veggies, shrimp and fish balls, crispy bean curd sheets and on and on. The variety was what was so amazing. A particular favorite with the younger group were the golden buns dipped in condensed milk. The owner was wonderful, coming and checking, ordering us specialities to try, bringing us all special sauces and desserts at the end. The rest of the staff were fast, friendly and professional as well. Since I work nearby, the next visit will be for lunch with my friends and I am really looking forward to it. Highly recommended!
Love the individual pots and the selection of food and sauces here compared to other hotpot joints. Dinner is pricey but if you can eat lots then you will get your money's worth. Otherwise, try to eat here for lunch or during the late night selection as it is half price. Downsides is this is more crowded than the southside location and the neighbourhood is a little sketchy at night.
Hot pot is something I’ve developed a liking for over the past couple years due to the good influence of my best friend. I finally had a chance to try this place with her instead of going to our usual hot pot destinations in Chinatown. Again, I love the one pot per person, which is clean and convenient. Food is delicious and service is super quick. Food came out in under a minute (literally) of handing them the order. The restaurant itself was well furnished and I believe they have top-notch ventilation. I barely felt hot while consuming mass amounts of food and my clothes did not smell like hot pot. Price is also decent ($27.95 per person) and I will definitely come back when I have a chance.
Favorite hot pot place to go, friendly service & they're fast. I like how they have individual pots and have an assortment of flavors. You can pick two flavors in one pot. Also this is the only hot pot place that doesn't seem to charge for every single item that wasn't eaten. They also have a variety of desserts usually - taro dessert, ice cream and the herbal jelly. Late night menu is affordable and cheap, I think it's 12$.
Better than any other hot pot places in Calgary. Wish Calgary had a place like this. Their lamb brother is a must and the ambiance is great for larger groups too
The hot pot experience was new to us. It was fun. Will come again. The workers were so very nice and helpful.
They made a mistake with our order, but not a big deal.
I absolutely love it here. The wait-staff are very friendly and are attentive. I've never felt like we were being ignored. I loved the variety of sauces and that I can have as much XO sauce as I like! Many people will tell you to stick with the plain soup and doctor it yourself to add flavour, but that being said, their Butter Satay base and Kimchi Tofu base are both really, really good.
This was awesome. My wife and i went here not even knowing what a hot pot is .
the staff was aware that we had never been to one and had no idea on what we were doing.
i swear at least 5 different employees attended us throughout the night to ensure we were getting the most
out of our experience.
The one price all you can eat worked for me and my wife even found great value in it yet she is not a big eater.
i highly recomend this place.
it would be great with a group of people...I will be back :)
The owner is amazing! New menu items added recently: broth, appetizers, etc... Great selection of food and sauces! Asian Express Hot Pot is my number one favorite place and I'll forever be a AEHP customer!
Good hotpot. An example of what a good - but not great - hotpot place should be like. Individualized hot pots is always a plus, decent decor, and fairly priced. Service I've had has been good, but nothing amazing. Food dishes ordered sometimes don't come, but that's how it usually works when you go to hotpot as a group, and all you have to do is reorder the dish the next time. The same hot pot at a table nearer to the back by the drink machines hasn't worked for the last month, both times we've had to change tables. However they provided us with better service and extra napkins/water to compensate. 3.5/5. Location isn't the best, being kitty corner from Hope Mission
I probably have a hot pot craving once a week. One of the owners, Angus, is friendly and accomodating. This is hands down the best hot pot place in Edmonton. Individual broths, a ton of ingredients to choose from, quick service, and a scoop of ice cream at the end. Great value for the price. I will be an asian express lifer
This place is amazing! Having individual pots for each person really allows for an efficient way to divide up desired and undesired foods between people. The quality of the food is excellent, topped off with speedy and generous customer service. The overall atmosphere and quality of the restaurant deserves an easy 5/5!
Loved all the options and the individual hot pots!! After reading a bunch of other reviews I think I must of lucked out. I went with 10 other people and we were given top notch service. Couldn't have been any better. Because the space is so limited and our table was huge the waiter kept helping us bring food from one end of our table to another! Will definitely be going back when I'm feeling for hot pot!
4/5. W went here late night we make reservation for 7 people.. Service was good very friendly staff.. The food was just fine nothing special about it. I'ts just a unique place that you can cook the toppings on the soup base of your choice like "shabu shabu".. i like the strawberry ice cream after our meal
This place was awesome. I love how everyone got an individual hot pot and a wide selection of soup bases. The amount of items were plentiful except for cooked items which were fried wontons, spring rolls, and green onion cakes. I had no complaints of service like the other reviews as the place was packed and the staff were still at tentative. The staff also spoke English so nonasians don't be afraid. Overall I liked this place more than King hot pot. Make sure you reserve a table as the place can only sit like a hundred people. If you like cooper pot then come to this place.
While the service is nothing to write home about, I like the individual hot pots and the different options for the soups. The food comes out super fast and they've got lots of sauces for you to choose from. I've been there twice now and it was packed both times! Plus they give you a coupon for next time when you're done eating. However, they do have a tendency to miss some items in your order, not sure if that's how they try to turn the table faster or what, but I don't care, I just reorder it lol! All you can eat for $22, count me in!
It was great. The soup was tasty and the service was awesome. Great selection of sauces. I would go back tomorrow snd recomend to anyone
The Only Place With Individual Hot Pots. Went there because of this novelty factor. It was worth it.
Just make sure you have a reservation or else :D
The place was very crowded and felt very stuffy. There was a lot of sauces to choose from. The food tasted pretty good and it felt fresh for a hot pot place. I am no connosieur in this area so I am pretty easily satisfied. Pretty hard to get hot pot "wrong". I liked the service there despite of how busy and hectic things were. I can sense an imminent hazard with that amount of people and the hot soup that is being carried around the restaurant.
Overall I would recommend this place to others but wouldn't come back here myself any time soon. At least try it once. If you are a hygiene freak then this is the place to be. Personally I like to breathe and not feel like I'm eating in a packed sardine LRT. :D
Love the Hot Pot Here.... This is by far my favourite hot pot place in Edmonton. It has really great variety and I love that there is such a selection of sauces (not just your usual soy sauce and chili).
The service is fast and for the most part everyone seems pretty friendly.
The only downside to this place is that seating is not very comfortable. It is VERY crammed in there and sometimes you feel like you can't get in and out of your seat. The restaurant is always very busy and filled with people, so a reservation is a very good idea.
Great place for hot pot. I heard from some friends that this place was really good for hot pot. So i made a reservation for saturday at 5:30, once we got there we were seated immediately and given the menu.
The menu consisted of what soup base to order and your food order, this place has individual pots for everyone so you don't have to share the same pot which is nice if you all like a variety of soup. You have 8 soups to choose from 7 of them you could pay $1.50 for or you could choose the free soup base which is ginger and green onion soup base. my brother had the wild mushroom soup base which had ginger, green onion, chinese mushroom and fungus, he liked it alot. And my wife choose the szechuan soup base which is spicy which she loved.
We ordered various things off the menu, with a 2 hour time limit you can explore as much as you want and order how ever many times as you can. the beef slices were good as well as most of the ball items ie. lobsterball & beefball. We didn't like the lamb slices they were very gamey tho. The tofu was good but they didn't have alot of things on the vegetable menu which we usually like, i miss my taro =(. but they had a huge selection to choose from.
One thing we saw that was weird that we tried on the menu was the "fish mash" or "pork mash" we didn't know what the mash meant, but it just meant they mashed up some fish, pork, or beef and put it into a tube so you can determine how much you want of it when putting it into you soup. we found the mash items were extremely tasty. I suggest getting the mash items.
Overall it was very tasty and pretty cool as you can set your own temperature for your own pot at the table any time. The service was top notch, very fast with everything, as soon as they took our menu every time we got the food within 3 minutes. And they give a dessert at the end of either ice cream or chinese jello. Although it is a bit pricy it's well worth it for the great food and service. and if you spend $50 or more you can get a $5 off next time coupon or $100 which gives you $10 off next time.
Will probably visit again this week. =)

A word of advice, if you’re not a regular hot pot diner: eat the noodles (or ‘Staple Foods’) last. They fill you up immensely and then you won’t be able to finish the rest of the things you ordered. As my mum passed this Chinese wisdom down to me, so now I pass it down to you. Meats and vegetables first; starch and carbohydrates last.
Staff were nice and accommodating although they forgot to give us out some of our stuff. This place is one of the best hotpots I've ever been in the city. A little bit pricey but you get to eat all you can. Overall, great experience!
Great Hot Pot.
We went here for a birthday dinner, and they were accommodating and hosted our party of 10 no issues.
They were able to accommodate for both vegetarian and religious food restrictions in our group, and were able to make numerous broths veggie/meat free.
All the meats and veggies came out quickly, quality and freshness was great, and the sauce bar had tons to choose from.
Servers and staff were helpful to those in the group that had never been to hotpot before, explaining and giving suggestions on food and drinks to try.
10/10 experience and would happily go back!
Favourite hotpot restaurant in Edmonton. Staff are very friendly, place is clean and food is fantastic. Hotpot is a great night out with family/friends and this is a great place to try it. Definitely recommend this place. Don’t be fooled by the sketchy location, the restaurant is great.
Clean and cozy place. The food is so good and the service quick. The location is the only bad part about this place, but it's still a great place.
Great place if you are craving some hot pot. There are small combo options or all you can eat!
Very good food, their all you can eat deal is great
I have been here for few times! Reasonable Price! Delicious hot pot! Excellent customer service! Definitely will be here again.
First time at a hot pot, portions were large, overall it was alright. Decor was out dated but seeming clean. Will go back to try other options for the dinner 5 item special as the lobster balls and shrimp were so so.
