First time here. I did not experience the bad things others have mentioned. Maybe change of management and/or staff? Anyway. If you are hungry, this is the place! The choices are crazy. There were three of us. If I can remember, we had: chicken, beef, lamb, squid, shrimp, black fungus, mushrooms, water cress, tripe, beef tendon, broccoli, spring rolls, green onion cakes. We each had different soup bases. I had the standard. One friend had the Tom Yum and the other curry. My friends were East Indian and they liked their bases. Next time I'll go for one of those two. They have a crazy big dipping sauce station. Even included the salty shrimp paste that I just love. Warning. They have large portions so go easy at first, you can always order more as it's all you can eat. We thought we ordered just a little, but we barely ate it all. We forgot to order noodles and it's a good thing we didn't. Like another poster said, if you want noodles, order them last. Frankly, as much as I love noodles, I wouldn't bother. The downers were: the squid tentacles were a bit chewy and the shrimp were whole - tasty, but I personally don't want to hassle of ripping off the head and peeling the shell, I'm too lazy. Service wasn't stellar, but not bad either. They did seem pushy with ice cream LOL. We would have gone for it, the but we were sooooo stuffed and needed to get going. So, one Chinese-Canadian dude with his two East Indian friends left real happy!
The lunch option here is one of the most value-for-money options in all of Edmonton! For $15, you get your own mini pot, 5 options, a salad bowl and some dessert too!
When in doubt for hot pot, I always go chicken broth. The trio spices broth tasted quite similar to the chicken broth though perhaps with a tiny bit more dimension in terms of flavour.
Premium beef/sliced beef are a must with hot pot! I found the wonton noodles to be too soft. My favourite would be the sweet potato noodles--perfect texture.
The sauce bar is a mini wonderland for condiment lovers! With over 20 options, you can mix and match whatever sauces you want to accompany your hot pot. I always go for the sesame oil + salt + chilli OR peanut butter sauce + chilli oil + coriander.
I will definitely be coming back!
Hubby and I go once a week. They are always friendly and service is always good. They always check up on us to make sure we have enough food. We’ve tried other hot pot restaurants before but the soup base is just not as good Asian Express. The all you can eat is always good if you are hungry, but if not after 9:30 the 5 item has great value.
