Enjoyed an amazing dinner here. Loved all the different courses offered, very small portions given but nonetheless every dish came out plated beautifully and delicious! It’s on the pricier side. A place worth checking out with it’s amazing chef’s and exceptional drink menu. Service was quick and fast, our waitress was very knowledgeable and explained the menu and options for us.Unfortunately didn’t take any pictures which I wish I would have, will have to come back to try out this lovely restaurant again!
Went into this cute little joint today. First impressions are that it's small and hot! If they had air conditioning.. it wasn't on. I left with all my clothes sticking to me. We ordered the fresh pasta, mushroom "steak" and gnocchi, popcorn chicken, and carrot cake French toast with London fog ice cream for dessert. The fresh pasta was good but it wasn't anything special. It came with a tomato sauce a little bit of some sort of cheese. It was pretty simple and lacked flavour. The mushroom "steak" with gnocchi, which is a portobello mushroom and contains no steak, was absolutely incredible. So so good. It was bursting with flavour and made us same "mmm" with every bite. The popcorn chicken was meh. It kinda tastes like a fried chicken ball you would get at a Chinese food restaurant. We got the dill sauce to go with the popcorn chicken and the sauce was really good. Lastly, the carrot cake French toast with London fog ice cream was incredible. The French toast was soft and flavourful, and the ice cream was so good I could have ate a whole bowl of it. Together, it was a magical duo. The service was very good as well, and I always had water in my class. Overall, I would definatly recommend north 53.
The brunch game in Edmonton is blowing up and I am so glad. Lazy unproductive Sunday with grumbling stomachs led to the decision of trying the new brunch menu at North 53.
Having been wanting to try North for quite some time now, it was a great opportunity to see the space during the day!
Offering a more casual atmosphere, dinner menu is meant to be shared within your dining partners while they also have an extensive drink menu. (Also had one for brunch)(no shame in drinking at 11am on a sunday) Inside is very spacious, looking to be more narrow than wide. The stretched bar is pretty impressive, running from the entrance to the back squeezing in a lot more bar seatings. North also has the most eye catching color scheme I’ve seen in awhile, the detail mixes seamlessly with grey tiled backsplash transitioning to wood than more of a sophisticated glossy black up on the ceiling. Playing with both color and texture. Totally in love with the design.
Service was off and on, she seemed to be the only server and was responsible for seating and hosting each tables. Mind you, we got there around 1130 and there was only 3 other tables and she still asked if we had a reservation. Probably safe to say it’s usually busy and probably a good idea to make a reservation in advance. She was friendly though and no complaints since the food came out pretty quickly.
Fried Chicken and Sweet Grits - ($11) - 3/5 - Not the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted, but I’ll give props on the crispness of the skin, and the portion. Honestly, the chicken just needed more seasoning, was very bland. The grits on the other hand was delicious, creamy and rich with meaty bites of sausage, definition of comfort food is right.
Pork and Oats - ($14) - 4/5 - I only got a bite of this but the pork belly tasted sooo good. The pork belly had a very strong flavor from the maple soy sauce marinade topped with a gorgeous color, great presentation.
Old Bay Cheddar Biscuit - ($2) - ⅖ - Added this since I was dreaming of the biscuits from red lobster. Sadly enough, the half of the biscuit I had was disappointing to say the least. Firm browned exterior, somewhat flakey interior but not a lot of flavor going on, relying mostly on the glop of butter.
Wasn’t blown away with the dishes from brunch but i’m not deterred!
Will not be back for brunch, but this visit has bumped up my anticipation for dinner at North 53.
I was extremely impressed with everything here and not just because I'm the biggest sucker for the smoky wood stove smell. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and timely. The drinks were creative and delicious, the ambience was quiet enough to have a conversation but loud enough to hear some rad music. And also there were no tv's! Can't wait to go back!
Love the interior! This place has such a cool vibe and their drink menu is awesome. My party and I tried several of their cocktails and every single one was delicious! The food was so-so... each dish was just missing something. The bulghogi game hen had some good components - the hen was delicious, the crispy mushrooms were good too, but the kim chi pancakes were very soggy from the sauce, a maple gojujang sauce (for those that don't know, gojujang is a Korean hot pepper paste). The sauce was okay. I just think the whole dish could have been executed better. The kibbeh meatballs tasted overwhelmingly like cumin, just not good... and I typically like cumin. I will be back though, I would like to try their other menu items!
I'll be honest - when I first glanced at the menu, I wasn't sure there would be anything that I would really like. My husband, who usually is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, also was skeptical. Let's just say the dishes blew our minds! We ordered several things we usually wouldn't eat, and they were so delicious! The portion sizes are pretty generous - we had four of us when we went and ordered about six dishes, and we were stuffed by the end of it. The only thing I would "complain" about is that they waitress didn't bring fresh plates and cutlery throughout the service - some of the tastes from the other dishes didn't mesh well together, so we did have to ask for clean plate and utensils, but other than that, I would highly recommend North 53 to anyone.
I've only been here once, though North 53 has been open for a few years, but I had a pretty decent experience overall. For starters, I appreciated the funky decor-it's very hip and modern, which is what one would expect of a restaurant located in Glenora. Now, I have always adored the Glenora location, it has an awesome trendy feel paired with the fact that it is a well-known, historically old-school Edmonton neighbourhood. There are some really unique little restaurants here that I thoroughly enjoy visiting, and North 53 was definitely one of them.
That's enough gushing for now though, as let's get to some main points of importance. Location-wise, while it looks great and all-it is inconvenient as hell when it comes to parking in Glenora. For one thing it's hard enough finding parking to begin with in the area at all. This restaurant is really no exception, and let's face it-no one likes paying for parking if they don't have to. In this area though, you have to, because this is one of the worst places in the city for those damn parking ticket people to congregate with absolutely nothing better to do that everyone despises.
I'm getting off topic here though with my ranting.. To get back on track here, the food and drinks on the menus were different. Not bad different, just weird different-like you have to try it at least once kind of different, because it sounds strangely good, but also just.. odd. Apparently they change up the menus often too, so they try to keep things new to prevent people from getting bored. Which was all pretty great, but my biggest complaint was prices. While everything I tried was pretty tasty-I didn't really find the portion sizes worth the price. Nor did I find the restaurant really fancy enough to excuse the fairly high cost of everything, especially since the restaurant is really more pub-style that stresses they are "casual." I found that a bit contradictory, but flavour-wise everything was high-quality and well-made.
It is a bit crowded inside, as the place is pretty small so you are seated quite close to other tables in a squishy kind of way. I am not overly fond of that, but I enjoy that the restaurant only allows minors until 10pm, and then the pub aspect becomes more dominant. Fridays and Saturdays they also serve food until 2am, which is a definite plus in my books. All in all, it's a really great place to dine at if you're on a date or looking for a cool place to check out with friends-and I definitely plan to return soon and try out the new menu.
Great place for flavourful tapas and unique drinks in a small chic, modern setting. This is the spot in the Westmount area if you're looking to indulge your tastebuds with some delicious small plates while sipping on good quality drinks. Love the interior design and the ambiance at this place. The service was very personable and friendly. This place is worth checking out if you're looking for a lovely evening spot to take a date to or meet up with friends.
First off, The food was great. delicious and interesting and some of the most striking plating and general presentation in Edmonton. However, I wouldn't recommend going to North 53 for dinner. No. The food is too expensive and the portions are too small. You know when you see a commercial or a TV show making fun of the tiny portions at fancy restaurants? That. If you came with 3-4 people and you got one of their large sharing plates then maybe it would work out alright, I don't know, I didn't see the large plates. but if you are going with the medium and small plates it can be pricey and fail to fill.
Now, the real draw to North 53? For me, and many many others, its the drinks. Their bar staff is really top notch and they come up with some really unique house specials. this is on a short but very upstanding list of quality cocktail bars in Edmonton.
I'd go back for an intimate cocktail with someone special and maybe a late night snack. I really think that's the experience that North 53 had in mind when putting the whole ensemble together, this place really is all about the cocktails.
North 53 is a corner restaurant on 124th Street in Edmonton. They offer a late night menu that starts from 11pm - 2am (Friday and Saturday) that includes Crustacean Cracker, Griddled Mushrooms, Filipino Pork Buns and Fried Chicken. Fried Chicken!!!!!!. Fried chicken has to be one of my favourite foods to eat and I judge fried chicken on five factors.
I visit North 53 quite often and although it is quite pricey I enjoy each visit thoroughly. I especially like that they are able to prepared any food request even if not on the menu. I will keep visiting!
North 53 is fairly expensive lounge/bar with interesting atmosphere. It is a good spot to sit down with an artisanal cocktail while watching people or hanging out with friends. I haven't tried their food yet, but really enjoyed cocktails. They have a short list of those, however can craft almost any upon request. Love it so far and will be back!
Cocktails are creative and ambiance is fun. Their fried chicken is the best food on the menu and they decided to serve it only after 11pm. Bad business move. I will not wait until 11 to eat fried chicken.
It was not long after this meal before I started craving their food again (darn that popcorn chicken was good!). In truth, having been a frequent diner of the previous North 53, the new menu is improved, with a bevy of both safe and exciting elements that should appeal to anyone looking for quality cuisine. Located in a part of booming Edmonton, North 53 has everything that it needs to succeed: a beautiful building in a great location serving excellent high quality and, at times, imaginative food. Although it might not be the most refined of meals I have had, it remains as one of the more memorable and instantly ranks as one of my favourite establishments in Edmonton.
This restaurant had a beat atmosphere but it was a bit crowded for my tastes and towards the end of the night it was getting pretty loud. I had difficulties hearing my friend who was sitting right across the table. But overall the food was pretty good with my favorite being the clam and scallop fettuccine (seafood was sparse). Portion sizes are pretty good for sharing. The fried pork skin was a tad on the greasy side. Overall, I thought it was ok.
Amazing. Went for a friends birthday last week and it was amazing! The staff was super nice and you could see their love of food. Definitely one of Edmonton's best restaurants!!
Truly amazing. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. Each dish was beautifully presented....with interesting twists like blue spruce, no pepper , but nasturtium. The only course we felt could go was the onion. It was an onion. Blah. But every single other bite was happiness. Excellent service too. Thank you, Matt.
We ate the menu. Although a small menu it covers all basis. Pork was a bit tough but oats were amazing. Chicken was a tad dry but skin saved it. Salmon was amazing, foie gras and rabbit solid, carrot soup very raw and hearty, sweetbread was tasty and not too intense. Crispy veg was amazing. Desserts were solid.
Fantastic experience. We will be back. Small portions but that is the concept. We ordered 2-3 dishes each and had a fabulous evening. Very flavourful. Good wines. Wonderful ambience.
Just finished eating and it was great! I recommend getting a reservation we only got in because we were there right at opening time! The meal was great and they were very accommodating about my mom and I's extensive allergies!!
Brilliant food, room and service. I'm usually suspicious of reviews with absolutely nothing negative to say, but here I go. I've had the pleasure of eating at some of the finest restaurants, in the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Michel Roux and Heston Blumenthal have all fed me. The very young staff at this restaurant can hold their own against any of them. How somebody with so little life experience could produce such deep, mature menus, is beyond my ability to comprehend.
I've read a few negative reviews which is, unfortunately often the case with the anonymity that the sites permit, more a reflection of the reviewer than the restaurant being reviewed. We tried the tasting menu and it was, virtually flawless, despite its ambition. It was nice to have a contemporary setting and knowledgeable staff. If spending money on food scares you or if trying something that wasn't in a box in a freezer moments before it was on your plate doesn't interest you, don't go here. With that caveat, you need to go here and taste real food made by young geniuses. If the food prices scare you, consider that your only option is to hop on a plane and go to Chicago or New York city. Any decent tasting menu under $100 is a bargain and they should be charging much more.
Come on Edmonton, break out of your blue-collar eating habits and expectations and support these higher-end restaurants that are slowly populating our culinary landscape (Rng Rd and Corso amongst them...and so many others). Unless you can get a seat at the Fat Duck or Noma (El Bulli RIP), you are best served right here on 124th Street.
Good Wednesday evening. Went to try out North 53 last night and I was pleased with it! We didn't do the full tasting menu but just grabbed a couple things off the a la carte with some cocktails, and everything was beautifully presented, well-made, and thoroughly enjoyable. I definitely plan to return for the full tasting now that I know the things I tried were as good as they were.
I appreciate that they take the concept all the way, going as far as no pepper or chocolate anywhere. Definitely approve of the total commitment.
Staff is professional, knowledgeable, and super service-oriented (attentive!) Everyone with whom we interacted with was stellar.
Great addition too Edmonton food scene. Great atmosphere as well as amazing food. small portion sizes but just enough too order more than one thing and leave satisfied. between the two of us we order 6 dishes allowed me too try more than one thing on the menu, i was amazed with how everything turned out. love the edgy and hipster vibe! id recommend this place too all my firends
Best food I ever had. The service still needs some refining, but this should not take away from the amazing food and the very young chef. He is only 21 and has set a new standard
IWe had the salmon with bean.... We had the salmon with beans, beets, duck, boar, potatoes, and the apple and squash desserts. Everything was absolutely delicious, it was hard to pick a favourite. Delicate flavours and beautiful presentation - masterful is truly the only way to describe the experience. The cocktails were WONDERFULl. North 53 stacks up to tavern 1903, rge rd and three boars with ease. It's lovely to see a new Canadian concept spot that holds it's own. Do yourself a favour and get the Old Fashioned Smoke & Oak or Rosemary's Baby, you won't be disappointed. 10/10 would dine again
Best meal we've had in Edmonton in a long time and we eat out a LOT - world wide. Had the tasting menu and just about everything knocked it right out of the park - dishes were creative, interesting and very very good. The only meh on the menu was the mushroom soup - it was good, don't get me wrong, but it wouldn't bring me back. Service was friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Cocktails were also terrific. Sorry Rge Rd and Woodwork but North 53 EASILY gets our vote for best new restaurant in Edmonton. Will definitely definitely be back.
The definition of "fine dining". The outstanding decor most definitely adds to the romantic and cozy ambience. I absolutely love their creations in support of all-Canadian ingredients. My favorites include: Chicken liver brioche, carrot dish, all three desserts are phenomenal, and most importantly the turkey dish! I've also had some very unique and creative cocktails, I will definitely be back. Keep up the good work.
Lucky. I have to say how lucky we are in Edmonton to have so many fabulous restaurants.I just had the good fortune to enjoy a dining adventure tasting menue at North 53, the passion of the young chefs came threw in every dish they prepared. The balance was perfect in every way. The cocktails are fabulous. Service was good the room is great. A must try for a world class experience.
Awesome experience. I had dinner here last night and I don't have one bad thing to say, very good atmosphere, great service and even better food and drinks. I've had quite a few old fashions in my time and I must say this place has the best I've had hands down, good job guys. I also noticed there are no televisions which makes for a good dinning experience with out any distractions and makes the mood a little more intimate. Keep up the good work guys can't wait to come back
The cocktails were amazing. They were very well constructed and tasty. The food presentation was beautiful and very inticing. It surpassed my expectations and was done very well. The room is cute and the atmosphere is inviting with great vibes. Will be back ASAP.
Awesome. Went for dinner on Wednesday night. Got the a la carte menu. The cocktails are great, especially the smoky old fashioned. I'd go back for the cocktails alone, but the food was the best I've had for a long, long time. Very impressive. We ordered the short rib, which was tender and very flavorful. I really liked it and would definitely order again. The chicken liver looked great, we wondered how long they spent putting it all together lol. My wife didn't want to try it, but once she did she loved it. The squash dessert was very creative and delicious. Nice to have something on a dessert menu other than chocolate and boring flavors. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. Recommended.
Ambient vibes, great service, and great food are few of the things I would say I enjoyed most about the new up and coming restraunt in metro Edmonton!
I thought the food was really elligent and quite special in every dish. Loved how the ingredients were used to give you such a unique taste and also how they gave you a presentable dish. The drinks were also alot of fun and creative great for after a long day. Waiters are amusing great at service. Overall a fun enjoyable classy place looking forward to go there in the near future.
The ribeye was flavourful and came with mashed potato which was delicious as well. The purple potato and onion dish was fantastic as it came with a variety of onions. The carrot dish came with a very nice mousse. All of the food came out in a lovely presentation. The service was wonderful and quick for a very busy Friday night.
North 53 really needs no introduction if you keep up with Edmonton’s food scene. Featuring only Canadian ingredients (over 90% of which are sourced in Alberta and BC), the now 11 week old addition to Edmonton’s growing 124 St was not far down on my list to eat. Why did it take me so long to get there? Perhaps because Joe and I lack Saturday night planning skills? Frigid cold weather? I really have no excuses. So I’ll be extra thorough for this post and not because I feel ashamed that it took me so long to get in, but because North 53 truly deserves it. Our reservation was for 7pm last Saturday and when we arrived, it was surprisingly not fully seated! A long bar counter actually allows diners to show up without reservations, something I wish I would have known earlier. Large windows made it feel quite open and as the night went on, the dark interior gave it a very trendy atmosphere.
Sockeye Salmon arrives under a glass dome that, when lifted, peacefully releases an evocative cloud of juniper smoke that conjures up a misty dawn dreamscape on Haida Gwaii.
After work last Wednesday, I walked down 124th street to meet Charles for our 8PM reservation at North 53. Although first impressions weren't great (I must have waited at the entrance for about five minutes before being greeted by anyone), service was friendly and prompt throughout the remainder of our evening, and the incredible food and drinks went well beyond our expectations. Sparkly bar Smoke Oak Old Fashioned ($15) - A piece of maple wood is torched until smoking, and is then left to accumulate in the glass. At the table, the server pulls the glass off the wood and pours the pre mixed Old Fashioned into the smoky glass from a separate vessel. Smells delicious, tastes delicious. There are two food menus - A tasting made up of six courses for $100 and an à la carte menu. We skipped the tasting menu, opting to share five dishes to test the waters so to speak, before committing during a future visit. Still though, I can't figure out if the tasting menu is meant for one person, or as
