Famoso is one of those super common Edmonton chain restaurants. Want cheap food that tastes decent? Famoso. Want something that everyone is okay with after spending an hour deciding where to eat? Famoso. With vegan, vegetarian, and many other types of pizzas, it's clear that they have a lot of items for almost everyone and they are usually pretty popular with many locations in Edmonton. I hadn't been to Famoso in a while so when my work had a lunch at Famoso I was excited. Getting there, whoa apparently they've changed. Gone is the concept I knew of having that piece of paper and pencil and writing in the order and bringing it up to the front. They've also laminated their menus and added in new dishes - clearly turning themselves more into a restaurant rather than the fast-food/restaurant hybrid that existed before.
I got their Spicy Thai pizzetta with tomato bisque soup (my go-to at Famoso). I unfortunately found that there was less sauce on the pizzetta and it mainly had bean sprouts and maybe one piece of chicken on each slice. They used to give so much more! Tomato bisque soup was cheesier than I remember - still filled you up though as they gave a ton!
Service was friendly and knowledgeable especially for people who had never been there before. The food also came out pretty fast considering how big our group was and how it was during the lunch rush. I don't think there was a long line to get in during the lunch, even with our big table there. All in all, recommended.
Soft chewy thin crust oven fired pizza. That about sums it up. But I'll add: flavourful hummus, tomato goodness meatballs and wait...did I mention soft chewy thin crust oven fired pizza? So yummmmmy.
Had lunch on the patio today. Great food & service (Quattro formaggi + mushrooms + chicken folks, DELISH). Mgr stopped by to check in & recommend drinks. Cocktail pitchers refreshing on hot day (cucumber Capri & limoncello lemonade....so good)
Had Funghi Pizza and Tiramisu at this location. Surprisingly, I actually liked this pizza better than the ones I got at Una's in Calgary. Tiramisu is good, but a bit sweet for me. I prefer the Tiramisu I had in Tiramisu Bistro
Good food, fast & friendly service. Check out the movie deal. Add $8 movie passes to your meal!
Excellent pizza, excellent atmosphere!
Good pizza, better dessert!!!. Have now tried several of their pizzas and all have been tasty. It's a bit pricey but my family loves the pizza so we splurge occasionally. The full size pizza is good for two to share (although my son eats a whole one himself) and the mini pizzas are just right for one. Best part of the meal is always the Affogato , gelato topped with espresso. I was doubtful at first but believe me, it's extremely delicious.
We had lunch here today and both my husband and I loved it! The food was fresh tasting and super yummy! We went over lunch and it was a little busy, so we had to wait for about 15 minutes for a seat, but it was worth the wait. I had the Gorgonzola salad with walnuts and cranberries (excellent!) and my hunny and I shared the Sicilian pizza which was great! We spent around $23 and both walked out satisfied without feeling gross. Will definitely be back!
Pizzas are decent, but the sandwich was kind of dry and needed something to boost the flavour, so I asked for a side of tomato sauce. The staff didn't tell me that they charge $2 for that little dish of crushed tomatoes. Yikes! That sauce was not worth $2! Most Italian restos give you sauce for free, but I wouldn't have been as shocked if they told me there was a charge for it instead of surprising me on the bill.
Still a great place to go. Ordered the BBQ chicken pizza and the Caesar salad. Both are amazing!
