This is one of the "top ten" greasy spoons I've ever been to...it was quite tasty! I don't generally eat breakfast daily, but if I lived closer, I would certainly eat breakfast here more often. Thanks!

Edmonton's greatest "greasy spoon." The food comes out fast, is inexpensive, and exactly what you want to cure a hangover, go out with friends for a casual meal, or just to grab a coffee. The staff is great and personable even when it gets busy for them. Recommended, it's exactly what you want out of a diner.

I know my food and I know I ate great tasting at Route 99. I wanted this and I wanted that from the menu because all the items sounded so tasty. In the end, I ordered good old, sausage and eggs...mmm! I will definitely eat at Route 99 again, the food was great and the customer service was even greater. Good day.

Very good breakfast! Looking forward to going back and trying some other stuff. It’s very busy on weekend mornings! We waited a little while to get in and seated, but the food was worth it. Cool old feel in the restaurant.

If you like diners you'll love this place. It's a diner through and through. We had breakfast and nobody left hungry. Service was quick even though the place was full. If you have a group bigger than four or five you may have to wait a while for a table but otherwise it's a great place for families and students. I found the prices very reasonable. The food is traditional diner fare although the hashbrowns were better than most (thin cut and made from real potatoes). I would recommend Route 99 to anyone who appreciates diner food.

As you may or may not know, it was Pride in Edmonton last weekend, and I headed up with Siddall and some of her colourguard cronies for a little parade action. They beautifully twirled, and I rode in the truck. However between parade queue and lunch, some hangry started to creep in and mama needed a cheeseburger. We tried a couple spots on the main drag of Whyte Avenue but they were full to the brim, so we headed to Route 99 on the advice of our lovely hostess.

A good diner. Above average food, and well priced. Sometimes I come just for a milkshake, because the milkshakes are really the best. The atmosphere is really nice and reminiscent of the 50s style diners.

1950's dinner at the top of the hill on Scona RD. Reasonable prices and generous portions! Food-wise they're pretty on par with Denny's but that's not necessarily a bad thing - Denny does a pretty good breakfast!

Sometimes, all you want is bacon and eggs.Route 99 is a good example of the "greasy spoon" in Edmonton, and hearkens back to the days of quantity over quality, giving quantity a quality of its own.  Don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad restaurant from my experience, but the food is not as good as a lot of other places I have been like Urban Diner or Sugar Bowl.  That said, sometimes you are hungry (or hungover) and absolutely need a perfectly good quality (if not spectacular) plate-sized pancake drowning in maple syrup or a plate of bacon, sausage, ham, and eggs.  Even better, how about both, plus toast!  And make this monster meal less than $15, and you see why as a breakfast place it is often full.

It's a typical "greasy spoon" good food and friendly service. The fries are better than average and appear to be actual potatoes. The coffee was hot and fresh.

Its a diner. nothing really signature about this place beyond that. food was fine. food was cheap. No complaints really. no surprises either. One really cool thing is how early these guys open their doors. For us early birds sometimes its a real pain to find somewhere decent to get our grub on the brights, especially on the weekend. But Route 99 is probably the best Edmonton eatery open before 8 AM so hey, that's alright.

Went here over the weekend, and I was pretty impressed with what was served. Not only does it give off a retro theme, it also feels off a pretty heart warming vibe. The portions were huge, breakfast was amazing here.. out of all the places I've gone to - this place is a decent breakfast place!

Our favourite place to go when we need some classic, greasy comfort food. Route 99 is a perfectly unassuming diner with good services and great prices! We're big fans of the all-day breakfast, milkshakes and poutine. Not the place for pasta or salad - stick to the diner classics and you can't go wrong!

Been coming here for a while now and the food is just as good as when I first started coming! Love their chicken souvlaki in a wrap with Greek salad. Always a fave! Service is still pretty slow and their coffee is normal diner coffee so if your a stuffy high end diner, don't come here! Laid back family feel. Love it

A classic diner, hole in the wall kind of place. If your a princess or a high end kind of person then stay away, but if your up for a great friendly diner experience then this place is it. The same cooks have been kicking it here for 100 years, and the food is all homey. The souvlaki diner is my favourite and the donairs are also a great find. Great servers who make you feel welcome, with a twist of social expertise. Never been called "honey" before!! Classic! It's rustic and old school and it works. Suits to working people, all there. Drop by for a good coffee and a nice meal

It's a typical greasy spoon diner, if you are looking for clean lined and gourmet you're in the wrong place. They have good food for the price. I'd highly recommend the French toast. The eggs Benny is one of the best in Edmonton at this price point (I.e. Cheap). Lunch is good too.

My bf and i came for brunch. I ordered an omelet with toast and hash browns amd he got the farmers breakfast that came with a pancake, which was delicious. I enjoyed everything on my plate. My bf didn't care for the hash browns, but I thought they were good. There's hp sauce on the table, that's. A plus for me. Prices are really decent for the food. The service was great, too. Friendly and fast. Always quick to refill the coffee.

Our favourite "breakfast for dinner" spot.. I started coming to Route 99 when I first moved to Edmonton. We would go with a handful of friends for breakfast for dinner. It quickly became a favourite spot and when asked what I wanted to do for my birthday, two years in a row, this is where I wanted to be.
I've never waited for a table, and the service has always been prompt, and friendly like they've known you for years. It doesn't seem to matter how busy they are either! whether it's only two other tables, or a full house, the food always comes out quickly, and it's always great. Not to mention your server is going to keep your water, and coffee full without ever feeling like you have to ask.
I should warn you though. The milk shakes are not for the faint of heart. We're talking like a full pint of the thickest, most brain-freezingly great milkshake. I have yet to have food from here that I didn't like. right down to the fluorescent yellow hollandaise (Which you can get a side of if you're feeling like you have been too good to your body, and your fries just deserve it.).
It's a no brainer for us, and if you haven't tried it yet, you really should. Cheap, yummy, fun décor, top notch diner service.

Classic dinner. Service is fast and polite.

Room is full for character, covered in a thin layer of grease, perfect. But please, clean up the bathrooms.

Portions are nice and big.

It's a classic dinner, food is basic but hot, satisfying and priced right. Burgers, hot sandwiches like beef dip, meat and potato plates like Salisbury steak They also do all day breakfast. Everything is pretty solid, even the coffee is decent.

Eggs benny are pretty good for $9. And the soup is scratch made, Beef Barley was tasty on a cold edmonton night.

Solid Diner Food. I like to go here when I'm hungry and don't know what I feel like. Always solid, good food, great fries, and friendly staff. The waitress who takes care of me has been there forever, and she's terrific, a good part of the reason I keep going back.

It's not food that will knock your socks off, but reasonable prices, friendly people, solid food, and comfortable, laid-back ambience is in itself enough for a great dining experience. Always satisfying.

The 50's like you'd expect it. I ventured here for a late morning breakfast a few days back with a friend. First impressions were good; if anywhere looks and feels like a 50s retro-fit diner, this is it. The place was clean and had a colourful array of images and decor on the walls. I like the abundance of original booth seating.

The service was fast and attentive without being in your face. There was a good brew of fresh coffee in our hands just after getting seated and the food wasn't far behind. I got the steak and eggs and I haven't been happier in a while. It wasn't charbroiled but it was cooked to a perfect juicy mid-rare and lightly seasoned with your standard seasoning salt. The sunny-side eggs were bang-on too. I'm not usually a fan of shredded hash-browns but these were really good; not starchy, raw, or gluey, but rather soft, seasoned, and golden brown. The bill was more than reasonable for what we ordered.

All in all it was a great experience for a classic diner and I'll not only be back, I'll be bringing friends.

Good Food and Service. We recently stopped here for lunch on a Sunday with our 18 month old nephew in tow, so we were hoping for something quick and decent. We were greeted quickly and seated within a few minutes. Service was fast and efficient - I personally love having the coffee-shop type waitresses that seem like they've been doing this for 20 years. I had a burger and fries, hubby had steak and eggs and my daughter had a cheese pizza. Everything was tasty and well-prepared - standard coffee shop/diner fare. The bill for the 3 of us including our beverages was $33 which was very reasonable for lunch out. We would definitely return.

Good eats!. I routinely come here just for their fries and gravy. haha. Typical diner. I come from a small town, so that's probably why I love it! I love their pizzas and donairs and philly sandwich too. I don't know how they make their coleslaw, but it's the only kind I like! My fiance loves the lasagna and hot hamburger.

Comfort food, plain and simple.

Elvis would probably eat here. The decor is classical fifties diner with several pictures of Elvis, James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, their is also an actual wing of a plane in the entrance. The look is good and the place was fairly clean.

I was surprised at how skilled our waitress was. She was an older lady with a stony look to her like she was tough right? Her timing was perfect, arriving to take our drink orders as soon as we looked up from the menus and arriving to take our food orders as soon as we put our menus down.

The food came out in time as well. I had a Deluxe Burger which comes with Egg, Bacon, Cheese, and Mushrooms. I love Mushrooms but it seemed like an odd combination on this burger so I got them to hold the mushrooms. The burger was cooked on a griddle which surprised me because they served steak as well. My girlfriend actually ordered the steak but they were sold out, not a big deal really but I can't help but wonder as I write this if they would cook their steaks on a griddle as well. I mean really a burger cooked on a char broiler is perfect form so I assume they don't have a char broiler.

The burger was good though, I think it's right for the price. It was around 10 dollars with a side. I had the soup which was made in house. It was Beef and Vegetable. The soup was fair but they put corn in it which I felt overpowered the rest of the broth. Aside from the odd combinations though this place is really good. I will be back one day to be sure.

I could see this place having bad days. It seems like the type of place that suffers occasionally from inconsistency. Overall though it's good diner food and if this waitress sticks around they'll retain good service.

Good old fashioned Diner Food. I intentionally left Route 99 diner for a day on brunch tour when I was a little hung over. The day after Halloween celebrations was the perfect day for that.

The restaurant had a great 1950's feel. A jukebox in the corner, we sad in a booth with red seats and our waitress wore a "Pink Ladies" jacket.

I ordered the eggs benedict with a side of sausage. It ended up being exactly what the doctor ordered. The hollandaise sause was a bit more lemony than what I normally like, but it was still tasty! And I was pleased to find that my eggs were actually poached to my liking. I usually order them medium, and they usually come out soft. I found the hash browns a tad soggy. The parts that were crunchy were really good though.

Overall, it was a nice big plate of diner food to take care of me and my hangover. I would happily go back!

Tasty but they could do far better. Was driving towards whyte ave trying to find somewhere to eat for dinner when I drove by route 99 and decided to check it out, there were quite a few cars parked outside the front and I do enjoy breakfast foods so I thought id eat here.
On the way inside I noticed that they had a graphic up saying "finest burgers in town" So I figured that's what id go with.
The waitress seated me right away and I decided to go with a cheese burger with fries and gravy and a chocolate milk to drink.
The chocolate milk was a okay size, though not really a good thing to order if your thirsty as its not enough to quench a thirst.
The cheese burger and fries arrived quickly. The beef came across as a prepackaged patty that they buy. It tasted okay but nowhere near being the "finest burger in town". It reminded me heavily of the burgers they sold at the cafeteria of strathcona comp a few blocks away when I went there.
It tasted good enough as did the fries and gravy.
I think if they took the time and effort to make the burgers themselves the place would be great, though I doubt that's likely to happen.

Not gourmet but reliable and comforting in that truck stop kind of way. Where else can you get liver and onions or Salisbury steak? Condiments for burgers are brought in a stand like steakhouses used for baked potato fixings. Really sub-par coleslaw.

Little hole in the wall out of the way place with down home cooking and a family friendly atmosphere! You can spend your time looking at all the decor on the walls while you wait for your food. Plenty to look at. We ordered a banana and strawberry shake. We also had the farmers breakfast and a Mushroom Swiss burger combo. The burger was juicy and just the right amount of bun to meat. Dripped all the Condiments everywhere but so worth it for the taste. The farmers breakfast is for the hungry! Three eggs any way you want, a mountain of shredded crispy hashbrowns with Ham and Sausages, a couple pieces of toast and a large Pancake on the side. All the food was amazing.
