Chop Steakhouse & Bar claims to be Edmonton’s best steak dinner restaurant but is it really? I was recently invited in to have a very filling dinner of steak bites, steak, and much more! I dined at their westside location, attached to Sandman Hotel. Their other locations are downtown and southside in Ellerslie. It was my second time visiting a Chop location, with my first being at the southside location last summer. I didn’t have a chance to try their steak though so I was excited to taste what they are known for! Their menu is quite extensive, offering soups & salads, fish, ravioli, steak, prime rib, and chicken to name a few. My friend and I had a hard time picking what to order but our server gave great recommendations.
Had a wonderful experience! This is the first time going to Chop off stony plain road Edmonton. I have Celiac Disease and they did a great job at making me feel comfortable and taken care of. The manager came and spoke with me about the entree I wished to order. (They do have a gluten free menu) While I was eating the Chef came and spoke with me about the meal and how he prep it. Could not have been happier about my experience! I had the Hunters Chicken entree. It came with a chicken breast with a cream sauce, mushrooms and tomatoes. The sides were green beans, butternut squash, and wasabi mashed potatoes (which were amazing). Our waiter (Jordan) gave us top notch service! The manager and Chef were also amazing (I forget their names sadly). We will definitely be returning!
We started with some appies; the steak bites and lobster tacos were a hit. The red sangria was refreshing, but the Caesars are not as tasty as those at the Keg, according to a family member. The time it took to get the food was a little slower, given the very busy night we went for dinner (NYE). My family had various types of steak and I had the hunter chicken. The kale and white beet veg left a lot to be desired, as for me it seemed like a bit of a strange combo in terms of bitterness and texture. Although I can appreciate what they were going for, I wasn't sure about the pairing. The wasabi mash was ok but the tender and juicy chicken with the accompanying crispy skin and flavourful gravy were a hit. All meats were tasty and oh my goodness, extra filling. The fallen chocolate cake is rich and tasty. What I can say is that the experience was worth the visit, because we were with family, and the vibe was perfectly matched. The attn to detail in terms of service is notable and we were served some California ice wine at the end of our visit - for NY and we were given a card for free steak bites on our next visit between Jan - Feb 9. Like I said, the steak bites were a hit. I'd come back to try something new.

We've been meaning to try out CHOP Steakhouse & Bar for a long time. We've 'almost' gone a few times but plans always changed. This time for Amanda's birthday we made it happened. We called in a reservation to the West End and called in some baby sitters and made it happen. We were happy to hear there was a Gluten Free Friendly menu. It certainly helps make choosing your meal a bit easier. I have to admit, the menu was not perfect, it seemed to miss some obvious gluten free items like a baked potato, but that was sorted out with the advice we always give,, ASK QUESTIONS. Gluten free menu or not, not sure, just ask questions. CHOP treats the gluten free menu like an allergy. I recommend saying it is 'severe' then the manager handles your order. The waitress we had was pretty good, didn't have a full understanding. However, we were still comfortable because she was responsible and asked the kitchen staff when she was not sure, or when she didn't sound sure. Amanda ordered the Steak and Lobster with loaded baked potato and for an extra $5 turned it into a CHOP Experience by adding a really amazing Cesar Salad with no croutons (soups and other salads available) and side vegetables. For dessert we ordered a creme brule. The steaks was done to perfection. No complaints at all and the Lobster just delicious (yes I snuck some of Amanda's. The steak and lobster used a top sirloin cut, so I ordered a New York strip steak. Another really nice cut of steak done to perfection. The loaded baked potato was really tasty, made up of fresh crispy bacon. We don't often eat out steak dinners, because they can be expensive, but we knew after the meal and good experience, that we would be back for another special occasion. Simply Amazing!!. Great service, amazing food, and decently priced. You get what you pay for. Definitely would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a wonderful dining experience. I will be going back!!
Been here twice, and I love the good service and decently priced food. I've had the same dish twice now (shortrib main dish) and it's a favourite. Went with my partner and his family both times and they always enjoy their meals as well. The steak bites are really good, and the 9 hour cheesecake from the winter menu is a very good cheesecake!
Not perfect but not so bad either.... We chose Chop for our staff party this year mainly because they are one of the few places who take reservations on a weekend. We still waited about twenty minutes or so for our table, but as it was a busy night we weren't too upset. All in all Chop appears to be an upscale steak house but the food and service (though good) is a little unpolished at times and somewhat uneven. This isn't a complaint so much as it is a statement: I liked our server and the food I personally ordered but everything lacked a little finesse. It might not be as high-end as the décor would try to suggest but the food is honestly good and most issues (if any) will be minor. The tuna tataki was roughly cut but still tasty... just as my smoked rib eye was a little overdone but still delicious. Dessert was a total hit and I totally recommend the rum cake and crème brulee. Prices are decent.
Just got back from this place. Had the haddock with crab and shrimp cakes asvan appy. UNREAL. Very very tasty. Our server Jordan was amazing as well. Always on top of anything we needed. I get into this location 10-12 times a year, this was the the best yet. !
Thanks.
Top notch. Every time I dine at a Chop Steakhouse I'leave happy. being from Calgary I usually eat at chinook, but this one in Edmonton went over and above our expectations when we were there. We had one very minor mistake made when the meals came out that we would never have even mentioned(and it wasn't even really their fault), but they noticed it and sent out a brand new dish when it was unnecessary as we had no issues in the first place. Both the chef and general manager came to our table during our evening to make sure we were all happy. True hospitality complimented well with perfect food. They even caught wind of a birthday in our party and surprised us in the end with a birthday card signed by all of the staff! Again, thank you for the phenomenal night! We will definitely be back.
One of the best Caesar salads I have ever had. The service was amazing. The smoked rib eye is mouth watering! Highly suggest this restaurant and will be back again!
My husband & I went to Chop for dinner for the & it was a great night out.
Our waiter was amazing. Our food was delicious.
I enjoyed everything from our appetisers to our dessert.
Our entrees were hot & tasty & very delicious.
I don't normally leave reviews but we had such a wonderful dinner I had to share. We will definitely come back!

We went here yesterday for my sisters bday dinner and had a very nice experience, we had very attentive wait staff and the apps and food we had was really good, everyone was satisfied and we will go back again.
Simply Awesome!. I made a reservation for my wife and I because we had wanted to eat at your establishment since moving to Edmonton. From the time we got there, we were treated awesome. Seated in a very quiet area of the restaurant. Was very nice. The meal was phenomenal. Our server was Jenna, and she was great, as were the others who would come back and ask us how everything was. Was definitely an amazing time, and we definitely will return and bring our friends with us so they can experience some of the best service, and food in Edmonton. Thank you again!!!
LOVE this place!. The food is amazing and fairly priced, the servers are all amazing and very attentive unlike so many places. DEFINITELY EAT HERE!
Great platter. Delicious snap peas ! Most of the staff were very friendly and nice !
Loved it! Get the white greyhound and the lobster scallop dip. Its seriously good. Dont let the bad reviews scare you its just a bunch of cheapos.
Great dinner!. I visited Chop on Saturday 6th April 2013, with wife and a friend from Ft. McMurray. The atmosphere was fantastic under a beautiful decoration, the food just very good. We also agree that the service of Chris, the waiter, was 5 stars. Overall we all gave, 90% in rating of Urbanspoon.
Went for the Valentine's Day couples menu. Had to wait 10 mins over our reservation time, but the wine samples at the front compensated.
The waiter was friendly, but a bit awkward. The rest of the service staff was courteous as well.
The appetizer was a trio of steak bites, jumbo prawns and beer salad. Delicious!
My entrée was sesame encrusted salmon with rice pilaf. The salmon was decent and the rice pilaf was the best I've tasted.
For dessert we again had a mixture: creme Brule, chocolate fudge cake, vanilla ice cream and rum cake. The desserts were definitely the piece de resistance with the rum cake being out of this world.
Overall I would recommend, but next time I will be trying steak!
Tonight was my wife's birthday and we went to Chop for dinner.
What a meal. The roast beef on yorkshire pudding sliders were fantastic.
The Braised short rib melted in my mouth and was delicious.
Our waitress, Crystal-Ly, was fantastic. She, and the rest of the staff, was friendly and attentive. My wife even received a card signed by the staff once they found out it was her birthday.
It is this level of excellent service and quality food that makes us keep coming back.
Great Burger. This place has a familiar look and feel about, but that's probably because it's positioning itself as a trendy, mid to high end steak house. If the Keg and Earl's had a child, this would likely be it.
The place was clean and the staff were all well "put together". The hostess, while beautiful, was cranky and the server we got wasn't much better. Once she realized that her flirting wasn't going to inspire us to spend a fortune drinking ourselves into oblivion, she pretty much ignored us until it was time to pay the check. That said, the two servers running sections beside ours took great care of us and still managed to treat their tables well. We ordered the Chop Burgers with fries and sweet potato fries on the side. The food great when it showed up; it was nice to still see presentation even with a simple order. I have to say, it was probably one of the best burgers I've had dining out in years. Definitely the best I've had in Edmonton. It was perfectly charred and the flavour of the aged cheddar and double smoked bacon really popped. The sweet and tangy sharpness of honey dijon sauce really brought everything together too. I'm a sauce guy and this is where most places drop the ball. The fries boasted skins on and tasted fresh cut while the sweet potato fries were crispy and nicely seasoned. They did everything right.
The menu has a few pricey items but overall its on par with its competition, and it still offers good value for your dollar. Despite the hostess and our server being brutal, the rest of the service staff seemed great. I'll be back at some point.
The food and staff were awesome! The steak was cooked perfect and the ribs were super tender. We topped off the evening with chocolate cake for dessert. It was great!
The food was good but deff over priced. You're paying for a "hip" building not better food. Kelly was a great waitress/bartender ask for her! She has a cool tattoo covering her back you'll know when you see her. She was A+++ for was a B.
Very good food. Our first experience at the chop. By fa the best place for steak. All the food was very flavour full and unique. Service was good and friendly. A little pricey but worth it.
A group of 4 of us went for dinner at Chop tonight, as it is in our hotel. We were happy with it. I got 2 appetizers, Lobster/Scallop/Gorgonzola(sp?) dip and Ahi Tuna in pastry. The other 3 had steaks (see pics!). The server was friendly and helpful (and cute!), and while we were eating the chef came to our table to ask how everything was. It was good. Nice decor, etc. Overall, a nice night out on the town for this Calgarian tourist. Cheers.
Excellent Steaks !!. We went to chop with a table of 6. We had made reservations but still had to wait 15 min for our table. This was to be the only bad part of the evening.the service was great and the food matched the hype and price, my steak was perfect which sadly i don't seem to experiance to often in Edmonton restraunts. They also have an excellent wine selection that matchs the menu just right.
Overly- priced. My friend is obsessed with this place so she always begs me to go here with her...
The atmosphere is very nice here, the building is really new looking, dimmed lights. Just looks like an above avergae place to dine.
It is very pricey here! The bill adds up quite quickly especially after a few drinks, an appetizer and a entree.
The salad dressings I find are usually very bland, especially that poppyseed one. Tastes like nothing...
Had the clam chowder soup.. Which there was next to none of itin the bowl. Dipped my spoon into the bowl and clink... hit the bottom right away.. for a $8-$10 bowl of soup, it wasnt worth it.
Sangria's here are very tasty, probably my favourite drink to get here. Comes with a ice cube that is made of juice. the bellini is my second drink here.
the entrees are alright. The fish is usually not bad and comes on a cedar plank. The steaks are usually good and cooked properly.. thier infused mashed potatoes is one of my favourite side dishes there
I've had pretty and service here though. My server would come back every 25 minutes and ask how my food and drinks where when I'm almost done eating them. Once I asked for a glass for water which she didnt bring for 20 minutes so i asked again and she snapped at me saying its coming.
Service is mediocre. Steak bites are yum. But my favorite parts is the drink menu!
Surf the menu to see if it's for you. The decor here is wonderful, so I'd suggest it for impressing a date or your relatives etc. The food is also awesome, but as I said in the headline, you'd better look at the selection before you go. I think the menu is a bit on the small side (one beef item, one chicken, and so on) and while the items are creative and high quality, if nothing on the list calls to you, whaddaya gonna do, y'know? When I'm in the mood for one of their items though, I really enjoy the presentation. Sauces and sides are not just an afterthought but a special part of the meal, which you don't find just anywhere. They have a menu of martinis that's also limited but amazing. I fondly recall being stuck in Winnipeg overnight when we were thrilled to see a hotel with a Chop in it! With no further driving required that night we were able to fully explore their unique drink selections. One was mainly pineapple with a bit of basil of all things! And it was superb! We just snacked on the appetizers/ pub food that night and I recall loving a tray of deepfried steak morsels with a nifty aioli for dip. So I highly recommend Chop for drinks with friends as well as for a classy dinner. I was surprised to find they have other locations as it doesn't give off a chain vibe. Keep them in mind on your travels too.
Wings!. The wings here are awesome - they are big, well seasoned, come on a skewer - very nice for wings for sure.
The Keg 2.0. Like the title states, its very similar to the keg, albeit a few different menu items.
Seeing as I am a fan of the keg, I decided to try the items on the menu which were not available at The Keg.
The appetizers were nothing special, but they were not bad either.
For the main course I had my self a rib eye + lobster tail + aged white cheddar mac n cheese which was excellent.
The portions were more than fair, and the rib eye was cooked to my liking and delivered a unique great taste.
The Lobster tail was succulent and not dry at all.
The mac n cheese was in a world of its own. A definite must try for anyone who is going to CHOP for the first time.
The atmosphere is similar to The Keg Chain, but is more chop house theme oriented.
Servers were friendly, efficient, and knew their stuff.
Overall a good experience, but its slightly over priced for what they offer.
Great Food. This place has amazing food.
Its hella pricey, but it is worth it for a nice night out with someone special.
ALWAY MAKE RESERVATIONS! Or else you will be waiting for hours
Prime Rib!. I went to Chop for the first time with my girlfriend and another couple, we enjoyed great service inside a really stylish decoder restaurant. I started with a Chop caesar extra spicy and I must say you don't need the extra spice! Then I ordered the large prime rib, medium rare and I have never had such a beautiful piece of prime rib like that in my 27 years of living. Wow!
5/5 My boyfriend and I went to Chop and I was so impressed with the quality of both the service and the food. Our waiter was attentive but never intrusive and the food was delicious. My steak was cooked perfectly and extreemly tender. The resturant also had a nice ambience and overall I have nothing bad to say about my experience at Chop. I will definately return to Chop and would heartly reccomend it!

When cooked properly, their prime rib with fresh horseradish (made in-house) can be one of the most succulent things you’ve ever tasted.
