Great meal. Worth every penny. Would go again when visiting Edmonton. In town for business so always looking for a go to place. Will be marking this one down.
My third time dining here last night and they didn't disappoint. Their food, service, and ambience are one of the best in town. The duck confit with waffle was wonderful, short rib was so good!
Recently visited here for a birthday. It is a very cool look inside, has the feel of history. Our server was great, a little high energy, but very knowledgeable and helpful. We had the sea bass and the elk and beef rib. Both were very good. Some of the seasoning on the sea bass was a little off, but it was very well cooked. We finished with their gingerbread cake. It was very flavourful and light. We enjoyed that a lot. Although the food was good, it wasn’t the best meal we’ve had in the city, which makes the higher end prices a little more difficult to rationalize for us. We have no problem paying for good food, but have found better meals at similar or lower prices other places. It’s only due to that that I am not sure how quickly we would return, otherwise we’d be happy to visit again.
Located right on Jasper Ave, Hardware Grill offers a fine dining experience with upscale and tasteful dishes. Short review – intimate atmosphere, great service and delicious food.
This place is good and I definitely recommend for a special date night because it's pricier dinning. Our server was great but I found the meal very salty which was a bummer.
Best food I've eaten in Edmonton, and the service was impeccable and trust me I'm a foodie. Everything came out in a timely fashion and cooked perfectly. We will be returning.
Amazing food tried the duck it was so good. Good drinks one of the best old fashioned I ever had... Friendly staff.... Service was pretty quick...
Another fancy high end steak house. It was great, service to atmosphere straight to dessert. Try the brownie. I wish I took one to go as well. I'd go back on another date night.
We came to celebrate a birthday on a Saturday night, we'd booked the reservation online days in advance but when we got in we were sat right next to the coat rack and hostess stand. The way I see it this table shouldn't be there at all, let alone seating someone who'd booked a reservation several days prior to the date. My view for the night was a wall and a coat rack. We had a look at the menu, simple but not lacking. We decided to start with a cocktail and a charcuterie platter, then work our way through the menu. It was after all a celebration. The charcuterie platter came out and it was very large, I supposed considering the price it was evenly matched but a formidable starter to say the least. After the platter we ordered some wine, the pork belly, duck confit and the foie gras. We couldn't decide on a wine so we ended up ordering by the glass and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The pork belly was good but given the description I was hoping for a little more flavor, more so just bacon and a fluffy pancake. The duck confit was the highlight of the meal, absolutely great. It would be worth ordering it as a main dish. Portion and all. The foie gras was similar to the pork belly good but not great. But I am a bit of a foie gras snob, take my opinion with a grain of salt on this one. Even with 5 of us, the platter and 3 starters was certainly putting a dent in our hunger, so 4 of us ended up splitting 2 mains. Truly I could have left full after the starters, but we trudged on determined to sample the menu. 2 of us spilt the duck, 2 had sea bass and 1 rack of lamb. The duck breast was perfectly cooked and I really enjoyed the cherry gastrique with it, unfortunately the sausage was roasted to an oblivion and no longer contained moisture. I managed to talk my way into a prawn off the sea bass plate but couldn't wrangle any of the fish which I hear was great. The prawn was completely raw, a bit of a shocking contrast to the sausage you might say. The lamb was quite good, seasoned nicely and cooked just right. The polenta was a nice addition to that plate, certainly get some points on originality for stuffing it with shredded lamb.Overall I was a bit underwhelmed. Our service was knowledgeable but maintained a bare minimum effort throughout the meal, never suggesting anything only describing dishes we enquired about. The table placement certainly made a large impression on me. I've never appreciated being stuffed in a corner, especially when its to order an expensive meal. When I went to the bathroom and actually saw the place it was very nice. Other then the sausage and shrimp the food was good, but I didn't leave feeling blown away, certainly full though. I don't think I can recommend this place as a top restaurant to visit in Edmonton despite all the awards they've received in the past. Proceed with caution.
Wow. Incredible food. The taste and quality was all there. The service was excellent and fast. I had the black angus burger which I highly recommend.
It was the day before Valentine's Day and it was moderately packed at Hardware Grill. I haven't been back to this place in over 10 years. The location is not the greatest, as parking can be a pain. Besides that I had a reservation for 7:30 and was not a minute late. My girlfriend and I were seated in a open round table, perfect for closeness. The ambiance/atmosphere is very relaxed and the decor is elegant but not poncy. Our server Shane was probably the best server I've had in awhile. Full of energy and very attentive. But as always the food is the star my girlfriend and I were starving.
We started off with their Kobe Style Beef Carpaccio. It was delightfully light in a way. A crisp and thin potato chip with thinly sliced beef, truffle aioli & parm, you can't go wrong. Then the Charcuterie board came out. And my god this thing was massive. It was filled to the brim with meats galore. You get 2 different types of salami, smoked sausage, house made pickles, a slice of venison pate, and my personal favourite; Chicken Liver Parfait. Everything was beyond fantastic but the Chicken Liver Parfait was to die for, super smooth and creamy. I only wish they included some toast/cracker but that was okay as I just slathered that bad boy onto the complimentary bread they give you. My girlfriend and were getting 50% full from this alone.
Our mains were next and they did not disappoint. My girlfriend got their Lacquered Duck Breast and that was just bomb. The texture of the duck was simply mind blowing. The outside was incredibly firm yet the inside was incredibly tender and juicy, cooked a perfect medium rare. Seasoning was spot on. Their duck sausage was delicious as well. And those fork crushed mascarpone potatoes is a perfect marriage with the duck. I got their Bacon Wrapped Elk and Beef Short Rib. And that's a duo you don't see very often. Everything on the plate worked together wonderfully. The elk and short rib was melt in your mouth delicious. The elk was a perfect medium rare and the short rib was tender enough where only a fork was needed. The bacon potato pie (not really a pie per se) went will with the elk or short rib. But surprisingly the most tasty part of my plate was the beet chutney. It gave the dish a subtle sweet and savoury component. Everything on the plate basically just worked. My girlfriend and I were so full we basically had no room for dessert. Sad as I wanted some but oh well. The bill + tip and the end came to a shy $180. A little pricey but totally worth it in my opinion.
It was truly a delicious & memorable meal. Hardware Grill has been open for 20+ years and there's a reason for that. They're quality is superb and they have stuck to their roots but with a slight elevation in each of their dishes. I probably won't be back anytime soon haha but I can see Hardware Grill as a once a year sort of thing.
Came in to eat here for a friends birthday for lunch. Was good selection and good taste on the entrees we had a lot so could not even rememebr all of the dishes we had.
Hardware Grill is a staple in Edmonton’s high end dining scene but I’ve never stepped foot in here. Mostly known as a special occasion place, HG is trying to rebrand themselves as a pre-event place to dine while you’re in downtown. The $50.00 prix-fixe, three course menu is a much more reasonable deal (compared to their regular dining menu) along with them finally re-opening for lunch.
KFC, Baby Lobster Linguini with Prawns, Marble Brownie
Haven’t had lunch here before, but i’ve had dinner and it is a major key alert. Started with the KFC, which is korean fried cauliflower that I despised going into the dish because I personally hate cauliflower. However, after eating this dish I realize that I love cauliflower….or just anything that is korean. Had the Baby lobster Linguini with Prawns and realized that the prawns they serve here are the best in Edmonton. I don’t know what they did to the shrimp but they were so good. The dish itself had basil, cream, olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, brandy & peppercorns and parmesan. All these ingredients combined to make one of the best seafood pastas i’ve ever had. Major shoutout to the marble brownie though, you tasted like how I imagine Taylor Swift tastes.
Hardware Grill is right next to Canada Place where you can get a 10 year passport. So if you do get that passport, stop by here and not be disappointed. Service was kinda slow but the ambiance was great. Try to sit next to the kitchen where you can peer in and see how terrible it is to peel shrimp. While the location of the restaurant might be what people find a seedy area of Jasper ave, it is definitely worth the drive. When the area revitalizes in the next couple years, this will be a restaurant that people will not want to miss.

Went here for our anniversary Nov 2016. I was expecting really good as it is rated 4/1700 on trip advisor. It wasn't bad but I wont be back. The entrees are pretty expensive 48.00 for Sea Bass although they didn't have it and subbed in Halibut. it came out over cooked and dry. We also ordered the flat iron steak not a bad price at 35.00 but was not very good at all. Now the Pork Belly appie was awesome and would recommend. It was a cold night and restaurant was cold inside , our server was quite nice and good at his job. I was hoping for a good steak or good piece of Fish , should have went to the Keg as it usually delivers.. I guess to sum it up they fell way short of expectations and I typically write very enjoyable reviews.
Celebrating a special occasion and wanting a change from our usual spots I decided to make a reservation for dinner at Hardware Grill. I had been once before for a work lunch but as most work lunches go the meal wasn't all that memorable (not to say it was bad but rather I was preoccupied) so I was looking forward to fully immersing myself in the dinner experience.
Our reservation was for 6pm, we arrived a bit early as I wasn't certain how the parking situation would be. At 5:30pm all of the street side parking was taken but a block down the road (and around the corner) is a pay parking lot ($10 for all night) that most seemed to find their way to. It was a bit odd, as the neighborhood itself isn't the nicest and it didn't help that the parking lot was barely lit but I digress.
We were seated right away despite being 20min early which was great and the server was friendly, immediately reviewing the drink menu with us. It's clear they like to push their "custom crafted" cocktails as he breezed by the beer and even wine selections and really emphasized the cocktails. It made sense as the cocktails were about $13 each and also (to be honest) the one my wife ended up ordering (blackberry cocktail) was actually really good.
To start we ordered the scallops (3 ways), lobster risotto and parmesan truffle fries. The scallops were good although not enough that I feel the need to order it again. It consisted of 3 scallops nestled into 3 different sauces. The first was a sundried tomato-type purée, the second was similar to a guacamole (with a lot of lime) and the third was a corn salsa medley (my favorite of the 3). The lobster risotto was a treat, large chunk of lobster in the middle, and a well executed risotto - I added a pinch of salt - and it made it even better. The truffle fries were just so-so, with crispy fries, a definite truffle aroma and flavor but overall it needed a sauce imo (i.e. aioli) - wouldn't order it again.
For mains we ordered the sea bass and bacon wrapped elk with braised short rib. The sea bass was acclaimed to have received praise from Gordon Ramsay so we had high expectations and they delivered. Very moist (and generous sized) sea bass and the truffle lobster crepes were delicious - my favorite bite of the night. The elk and short rib was good as well although I preferred the sea bass of the two mains. The bacon wrapped elk was cooked perfectly and the short rib was no exception either, very tender. The potato bacon layered pie was rich and hearty and the other accompanying vegetables components were complimentary to the proteins. I did feel I needed to add a pinch of salt here and there to really draw out the flavors but overall some great mains.
Quite full at this point we still decided to order the popular salted caramel creme brûlée that also came with a small maple bacon donut. The creme brûlée wasn't horrible but it also wasn't the best I've ever had - the custard wasn't as delicate and silky as I would have liked - I felt it was a tad overcooked. The donut was fresh made, still warm to the touch and very decadent and sweet. I finished off my water and my wife's water immediately after eating it. Glad to say I've tried it but will likely skip it next time.
Overall an enjoyable dining experience, the prices are high which left me thinking I've had better meals for slightly less (i.e. Corso 32, etc) but it was a special occasion and we were looking to try something new. The service was fantastic and the food had its highlights. My wife and I both agreed we'd be back to try some of our favorites again and some of the other items we didn't get a chance to order this time around.
My favorite restaurant in Edmonton. The menu is great and original. Everything I've tried was really amazing. The cocktail list is awesome. I've tried the picasso, refreshing with lemoncello, vodka, fresh orange juice. Appetizers: smoked salmon with perogies and crème fraîche, beef tataki, Korean fried cauliflower. Main: the sea bass! I took it both times because it's soooooo good.
It's an expensive plate plate but worth it. Plus I shared it with a friend and the cook always prepares it on two separate plates. The portion is very generous. We finished with salted caramel crème brulée.
Try it! You have to. :)
I came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and we chose the 3 course meal that was only $50 (when an entree itself is almost that much). We also ordered a side of pork belly which was good but not amazing as it only had 2 pieces. I ordered the soup which was a tomato bisque to start and the shrimp mac n' cheese for my entree. The shrimp was amazing as it had a nice bbq taste to it. I ended with the creme brulee which was average. Overall the atmosphere and service was great. I would love to come back during downtown dining week to try more
Overall, my experience at Hardware Grill was just average. To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed. I really don't mind paying more for a really good meal. The service and ambiance of everything was really good, but I was just a bit disappointed with the food. It still was one of the best service that I've ever received at the restaurant, and everyone was really friendly. I really like the interior and the booth that we sat in. For the price, however, I think I'd rather go somewhere else, like Bar Bricco, Corso 32, or another fine dining restaurant. Give this place a try for yourself though!
Absolute perfection from the elegant ambience ,superb food, classic drink selections and our wonderful waiter. This restaurant is everything we expected it to be and more.
Our waiter Shane took time to guide us through the menu, ensuring a perfect outcome. We were able to have a lovely dinner and make the symphony with time to spare.
I highly recommend this restaurant and give it two thumbs wayyyyyyyyyy up !
Been here over the years and they never disappoint!!! Would love to come more if we lived closer... Would love to see change of menus more often.
My experience had both some goods and not so good. The only reason it wasn't perfect was that we weren't being served for a while at the beginning and I think it was just a miscommunication on who was helping our table. Once we notified someone, the manager/ head of the front end ended up serving us so it was good after that. The food was really tasty, I really think the two appetizers of the scallop and the salmon perogies were delicious. My friend recommended the sea bass and it was amazing! I also tried some of the lobster mac and cheese that came with the bison and that was one of my favourite dishes of the night. Also the bacon donut for dessert was so cute and great to end off the night.
Sure, this place is on a sketchier part of Jasper, but the location is not as bad as a lot of suburbanites make it out to be. The restaurant is in a beautiful old brick building. The dining room is a tad dated but features a wonderful open kitchen. Sometimes, though, it seemed like the chefs forgot the kitchen was open - but I will say no more about this...... The food: the charcuterie was great, as was the kobe carpaccio. My bison steak was a tad overcooked, but was still enjoyable. I'll be back for sure!
Wonderful meal once more at Hardware Grill! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! We had a wonderful booth right beside the window to the kitchen -all the excitment and none of the noise! Perfect! Bummer though - they changed the menu since we were there last (over a year ago tho!) and my favourite drink (although can't remember the name!) was no longer on the menu! Oh dear - had to have a Smoking Old Fashion instead! Pretty fantastic! We had seared sea scallops to start. They were very fine but we're really unnecessary as the meals are so filling! They had 2 sauces & a salsa. Both sauces were too spicy for my wimpy mouth but hubby said they were tasty! Then the main event (sorry I forgot to take pictures!)! I had the Bison Striploin with Lobster Mac & Cheese & Mushrooms. Absolutely fabulous - I like my meat rare & it was perfect! The Lobster Mac & Cheese was unbelievable! Tons of lobsters pieces but this was truly heaven! And the Bison was 9 oz - hubby was kind enough to help me finish my meal as it was so much & so filling I honestly couldn't eat it all! But I had to reserve a spot for desert! Oh the rest of the little party ate extremely well too! Hubby had the rack of lamb done medium and perfectly! Our pals had the Bacon wrapped elk, and his wife had the salmon! Everyone loved the meal! And of course hubby & I saved a corner for desert which was Molten Chocolate Lava Cake with Cappacinno Ice Cream & caramel corn on the side! Literally to die for! And I would be remiss if I didn't mention our fantastic waiter Jerry - a complete professional in every way! Thanks for taking such good care of us! It was our version of a Christmas party for 4. I know the final bill at the Hardware Grill is a little high but u truly get what u pay for & it is such a treat! For your next special occasion - make it Hardware Grill - you will not be sorry!
Amazing Ambience. Great food. Great service. Had a wonderful time.
Try to book the chef's table or whatever it's called when you go. Will be really worth it.
This is literally the best restaurant my wife and I have ever been to. We live in Saskatoon and usually make the trip to Edmonton once a year or so in part to go here. Their menu is awesome that we never get to try everything we want to and rarely do we get anything that isn't completely superb. This last visit we tried 3 appetizers, a soup, two entrees and one dessert; everything was so good we couldn't even pick a favourite among them. The service is always excellent, and usually a notch above most other places. I would probably choose to go at a time when they are serving their full regular menu as opposed to a 3-course tasting menu or anything like that.
Last night we were finally able to scratch the Hardware Grill off our "to-do list".
For most (me included), the prices alone ensure that this a "special occassion" destination. 3 cocktails, 2 appies, 2 mains, 1 dessert to share, and 2 coffees brought the bill to $185. With a 20%tip...$222.
I guess given that the cocktails (Wife particularly enjoyed the Cucumber-gin cooler @ $13ea) made up ~$30 of that total...$150 for the 5 dishes we actually enjoyed (and they were quite good) isn't unreasonable.
Though it won't come as a surprise to some, I was perturbed by the host informing me that I could not wear my cap inside. I see no mention of a dress code on the website.
Anyways...
To start...I thouroughly enjoyed the Lobster Rissoto, and my wife melted with a helping of the Crispy Pork Belly.
For dinner, I settled on the Duck Breast & House Duck Sausage while she chose the Porcini-Crusted Sea Bass.
Both dishes were rich and flavorfull. I think that for me, the duck wasn't the best choice, but the sausage suckered me in.
We shared a delicious Gingerbread cake dessert. It was very good.
All in all, I am pleased with our experience here. All the dishes were complex, and offered an awefull lot of flavors on one plate.
Due to the cost, and my ongoing desire to try new places, it is doubtfull I will make it back anytime soon. But if money were no object, ir one is looking for a special experience. This is certain to please.
Worth every penny. Not a cheap place to eat, but we felt the cost was reflective of the amazing food we ate. Perfect for a special occasion.
We had the beef carpaccio, and KFC cauliflower, which was crazy good! (I wanted to lick the plate) Followed by the bison and the sea bass.
The salted caramel creme brûlée was also perfectly prepared. So light and creamy -delicious.
I was kind of disappointed to be seated in the new addition area of the restaurant instead of the main area, we felt sort of disconnected. Consider requesting to be seated in the main restaurant.
I would recommend this restaurant 100%. As the others pointed out: there's a reason it's been around this long.
In my opinion, this is the best fine dining in Edmonton! Have gone multiple times and always keep coming back. The food is perfect and everything is plated beautifully! If you are looking for a special night out, this is the place. Beef tenderloin is my go to and hubbies is the rack of lamb. Can't go wrong with either. There's a reason this restaurant has been around for so long. Try it out once, and I guarantee you will be back. Only con I can think of is parking can be shady later at night, as the parking is on a side street.
A couple weeks ago I went to Hardware Grill for the first time with Jessy. Their dress code is listed as smart-casual, but I opted to wear a tie for this occasion. It’s located at the East end of Jasper Avenue, right by the Shaw Conference Centre. It can get a bit busy on weekends, so I always suggest making reservations.
The Hardware Grill is one of Edmonton's best fine dining restaurants. I have eaten here multiple times, a few times in the wine room downstairs with a group and a set menu and a few times at a table for two. The food and its presentation is always spectacular especially the rack of lamb. Unfortunately I am not a fancy guy and know absolutely nothing about wine so ill have to say look to other reviews for info on wine. I will say if your looking to impress someone with a nice dinner out bring them here you wont be disappointed, and neither will they.
We went to check out Hardware Grill during the downtown dining week in Edmonton. The restaurant located at the edge of downtown at 97 Street and Jasper Ave. The parking was pretty good since it is free after 6pm on weekdays. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the dim lighting is quite relaxing. The restaurant offered the set executive menu which is what we all had.
I usually generously rate restaurants if they offer a good menu, great service and great drinks.
Hardware grill, should be rate 6 out of 5.
It is simply the greatest restaurant in Edmonton.
I had the chef's table where we had a private table right in front of the kitchen with a custom menu. We had a wine pairing with every serving.
It was my greatest experience in Edmonton and absolutely worth the 600$ for me and 2 friends.
This is one of our go to places for anniversaries or special occasions. We love the food here, good wine selection and great atmosphere! The hailbut dish is my favourite!
Really good service. The service was really good and it was a perfect environment for a date and good food.
Excellent cocktail list with diversity and humour. Prices are also in line with everywhere else. Enjoyed the sweetbread tart w mush and asparagus was divine good combo of textures colours and flavours. Choco stuffed into toast with bacon and a cake of foie gras was extreme and ballsy but they pull it off well. Bravo
Great food and service. Food was top notch, everything we ate was worth every penny. Gary our server was awesome, down to earth and very helpful with the wine selection. Great evening out and definitely will be back.
007- the best! and there can only be one!. Can crispy duck leg, on a bed of field greens, smoked salmon, caviar, top korean fried cauliflower?my god the appetizers were like a main course, only you can taste three of them! After all they are appetizers! yummy! Good looking servers, neat, professional, knowledgable to talk to you about the menu, (we like to think we are foodies) opted to share the best menu
in Edmonton with our taste for the best ingredients available.Main course was rack of lamb and my eyes popped out when it arrived because it was so loaded with vege's and perfectly done to medium ,bones locked together in prayer, beautiful chops! pink in the middle and perfectly charred with a smoky taste. I forgot my manners and ate like a caveman, holding the bone till it was bare.My dining partners were loving the sea bass which is another story as I ate part of it too! Charred bass served with a double crepe stuffed with truffled potato and lobster- decadent. Desert ha! we were going to leave remembering this meal forever, then creme brule',cheesecake with passionfruit sauce, new to the menu we were told and the chocolate caramel slice of temptation- better try it for yourself. I can only say we were so treated with the best service, beautiful surroundings, tantalizing tasting dinner that you should put on your bucket list as you will never forget ! We have eat foods from various countries and chefs, but haven't been close to tears as when we tasted the crispy duck.Every menu item we ordered came better than described and, surprise! More than described with ingredients that are healthy for you , crisp vegetables with the vitamins we need and very little or no fat! Thats why we ate dessert, we enjoyed every item and the chef deserves accolades!
Amazing Amazing Meal. Last night I took my husband here for his Birthday. We have not stopped talking about our meal all day! We started with the Bacon wrapped Scallops and KFC which is fried cauliflower in an amazing sauce. Next we got our entrées. My husband got the Beef Tenderloin which he had said was the best thing he had ever eatin. I got the seabass which I have to say as well was the best dish I have ever had. For dessert we got the crème brûlée which was served with a Bacon Maple Donut which was to die for. All in all a great experience paired with great wine. Would love to go back someday.
Amazing service!. Went here for a friend's birthday dinner, and everything went well! The service was fantastic, and our server definitely went above and beyond in many aspects of his service. The environment was definitely fine-dining, so don't go in there unless if you're at least somewhat dressed up or else you'll look out of place
My friend and I split the House Applewood Smoked Salmon, which was delicious. The perogies just melted in the mouth, and combined with the taste of the smoked salmon and caviar it tasted amazing. For the main course I got the Lacquered Duck Breast and Duck Sausage Patty. I had mixed thoughts for this dish. I loved almost all of it, especially the duck breast and the potatoes that come with it. However I found the Sausage Patty to be a bit bitter, which I found odd and definitely different. Overall, it was really good though.
As others have noted, the price of this place can get a bit steep, especially with 18% gratuity tip for large parties. While the service was amazing and the food was great, I'm not too sure I can justify almost $60 for half of a tiny appetizer and a main dish that didn't blow my taste buds away. Yes I loved it and it left me relatively full, but it didn't make me excited to come back and try it again. I've had better fine dining in Edmonton for cheaper, but you still won't leave here disappointed or regret trying it out. Recommended.
SO NICE to have a Menu with Great Choices and Variety!. Hardware Grill is loaded with flavour...but for a price!
Mozzarella Salad : great dressing with lots of flavour and a huge chunk or mozzarella, just found the rest of it a tad plain, just a few cherry tomatoes and some basil, but the cheese and the dressing were tasty
Bacon Wrapped Elk and Ribs: the meat was cooked perfectly, the ribs were tender and the elk was pleasant and the accompany sides had soooo much flavour....great dish
Chocolate Lava Cake with caramel popcorn: great combination of flavours...wonderful dessert and a true lava chocolate cake.
Brulee: was just a bit too strong on the sweetness, would be better toned down
Great meal and great service.
A pleasing high-end dining experience. Hardware Grill was nothing short of impressive cuisine. It was a pleasurable dining experience from the atmosphere to the staff to the menu. Two things I was particularly impressed with was the patient and personable staff, unlike the fine dining stereotype they didn't have a hint of snootiness but were all the class and polish one would expect from a place like this. Also I was pleasantly surprised with the portions, the dishes were just right, filling but not enough to leave you feeling like a stuffed piggy. The charcuterie plate in particularly was well portioned for a group to pick away at, and I find places often skimp on their charcuterie plates. Indeed it was expensive, you have to expect that from a fine dining establishment. Its not the place to go for a casual sit down unless you have that kind of money to throw about. For most of us this is the place you go to maybe once or twice a year for a special occasion.
Impressed!. Simply put this restaurant has impressed me everytime my fiance and I have gone. with service and food alike! If you want a nice intimate place to eat then this is the place.

Fantastic Evening!. I wanted to find an upscale restaurant in Edmonton that wasn't a steakhouse - I certainly found it! The Hardware Grill, while pricey, was absolutely worth every penny. It was a special night for my honey and I, and our experience was nothing short of fantastic! We had the scallops and risotto to start - both were perfectly seasoned and prepared. For the main, I had the hickory smoked duck and he had the tenderloin. The duck was exceptional, with a rich smoke flavour, cooked to perfection. The corn dumpling sides were a lovely change from potatoes! The tenderloin was to die for. As for dessert, he had the warm gingerbread cake (which I got none of!) and I had the profiteroles. Both were exquisite! I also want to commend their enomatic wine list. All of this, plus an exceptionally attentive and cordial staff made it an experience we will definitely repeat!
Always good! And good portion sizes. You won't leave hungry...
SIMPLY AMAZING. Where do I begin to tell you about my experience? How do I begin to tell you about the food? The wine? As I drink my morning coffee, reminiscing about the night before, only a few words come to mind - OUTSTANDING, FANTASTIC, AMAZING.
To keep the holidays simple, we decided to pass on gifts and book a Chef's Table at the Hardware Grill. It was the best decision beyond compare. For people with a sophisticated palate, a love for quality, and a passion for food, this is definitely something you will want to experience.
You will be awed from the moment the starter hits your table. Every bite tells you that thought, care, quality, and passion are behind every dish. Lobster ravioli, braised pork belly, duck confit risotto, chocolate molten cake...... how can anyone think of anything else other than "wow".
To get the most out of the entire experience, I would recommend opting for the wine pairing with your dinner. It elevates the dining to a whole other level.
Being seated right next to the kitchen brings the experience full circle. Having a husband with a passion for food, he was able to interact with the staff, ask questions, and even go on a tour of the kitchen.
From the moment we were seated our waiter, Dean, was engaging, warm, friendly, and truly a joy. I have such an appreciation for staff who want to make any dining experience a memorable one. He understood the importance of time, allowing our group a break between courses, educating the table on the food and how the wine paired with the course, complimented what was being served.
When it's all over you will wonder where did the last three and a half hours go? Amazing food, great wine, and close friends always seem to make the time fly by.
Edmonton's Best. This is the best restaurant in Edmonton - hands down. The service, food, and variety cannot be beaten. I've had the Tasting Menu several times, and I am always impressed. I'll be a repeat customer forever!
Outstanding. Amazing Staff, very knowledgable . Amazing food..... a must try !!!
Definatley in my top 3 for steakhouses. The food was excellent and the service was great I definatley have no comaints here .
Exceeds Expectations. From the moment you walk through the door you feel welcome. The service is polite, sincere, and a joy to experience. The meal is superb and arrives quickly. The setting is comfortable and intimate, and at no point should you feel crowded into another guest's conversation.
The entire staff, and especially Kyle, made our entire evening exemplary. We are very much looking forward to our next visit.
Top notch. I've dined here many times over the years and never been disappointed. First rate top to bottom from the time you step inside to presentation of the bill. Highly recommended for that special evening out.
Outstanding!. Been here once years ago for Valentine's Day, it is indeed pricey, but very worth it. All the ladies at each table got a rose, cute!
Anyways, have not been here in years due to the pricey-ness, so decided to come back for a romantic night out, and still as outstanding as ever!
Service was awesome as always, and food was amazing!
What stood out the most was the halibut which was cooked to perfection, MMMM does not even sum it up!
Delicious as always! Very well worth the price.
Hardware Grill as long as I'm not paying the bill. I love Hardware Grill... as long as I'm not paying for the bill.
I've been here for business dinners before and with the sky being the limit on what I can order, Hardware Grill's food and wines sure do not disappoint. Lamb, steak, fish, chicken, vegetables, desserts- all are delicious, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Great food does come at a price given that the bill has always been over $100 for just my own meal (app, entree, dessert, wine)
Service is impeccable and I always leave with a fond memory of the food and the overall evening. A contending leader amongst Edmonton's overall drab culinary scene.
Tried and true favourite in the city. I always get the sea bass, despite telling myself I'll try something new. Reasonable wine list for the casual wine snob. Always good service. I love when we get the booths near the kitchen so we can watch them work.
Best Food in town. The room was quiet and we were able to have a nice conversation. We were seated beside the kitchen - in this case a good thing - where there is a window to watch the chefs work. I had the sea bass which was moist and prepared just right. My friends tried steak and were equally impressed with the quality of the food and the preparation. Butterscotch pudding for dessert - nice change with scotch mixed in. There was an impressive selection of wines. The big surprise was a bill that was quite reasonable. I will be going back.
I took my wife to the Hardware Grill tonight with her best friend and husband. We reserved the Chef's table and had a wonderful meal with the chef's tasting menu. The food was outstanding, and our server was very attentive and knowledgable. We will certainly visit again. If you have the opportunity to reserve the Chef's table, I would highly recommend it.
Came here for a business dinner with sky high expectations for red carpet fine dining in Edmonton. The food here did not disappoint! We were a party of four- I had the duo of the bacon wrapped elk with the short ribs. Each bite was melt in your mouth heaven- scrumptious and divine! Meat was perfectly cooked with well paired flavors. My dining counterparts were also not disappointed with their steaks (New York and Angus tenderloin. I finished off my meal with the warm molten chocolate cake- also quite delicious! Only thing that disappointed me was the sommelier/waiter. Poor knowledge and selection of wines, pretentious and snobby. I suppose this is to be expected but if you're going to have an air of hubris- at least be knowledgeable!
As wonderful as i expected!. I was suprised by the atmosphere and decore as we walked in, given the location this popular Edmonton restaurant is located. It's upscale and elegant, and we were greated with many smiling faces. Our server was very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. He realized it was our first visit and patiently walked us through the entire experience.
Apitizers: I tried the kobe beef carpaccio while my boyfriend had the soup of yesterday, which was a roasted tomato cream. I love carpaccio and have tried numerous kinds from different places. This is the best carpaccio I have had to date. Very flavorful with great quality beef. The soup was tasty too, hit the spot on a chilly day.
Mains: My boyfriend had the 60 day aged NY striploin. He enjoyed it, however he said he has had better elsewhere. I tried the braised short ribs. Melt in your mouth tender, wonderful flavor. I also enjoyed all the sides, especially the creamed spinach!
Desert: We had the marbled brownie, topped with ice cream. This was tasty, not mindblowing however.
All in all,we had a wonderful experience. Its quite pricey, so we will probably only eat here once or twice a year, but itsworth it!
Our family dined here to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and it was a perfect choice. Delicious food and attentive service. We definitely will return and highly recommend this fine restaurant.
Debby Glaser Shoctor
+4.5
Great restaurant in all respects. We eat there on special occasions. I would like to eat there more often, but they never change the menu, nor do they ever have any specials, so I can only eat there about once a year.
Had a lovely pre Christmas meal with friends. I really enjoyed the porcini crusted sea bass. Everything was delicious. Great way to celebrate - food was delicious, our party ordered a variety of dishes and no one was disappointed. Pricey, so it's not the type of place you go to everyday but it is definitely a treat. I didn't feel like the servers or restaurant were too pretentious or snobby either, which was nice as this was a very classy place but didn't have that extra layer of snob that you get some places. Would definitely go back and recommend to those who are looking to celebrate special occasions and who love food!
The overall best place in edmonton. Best food, and service (shane) i've had in years, anywhere.
PURE EXCELLENCE.
The food, atmosphere, and decor were excellent. It is cozy yet formal and the food is exceptional. Our experience here woul have been much better had we had a different server, unfortunately. It took four hours to eat here. About an hour of this was spent waiting for our bill. He was knowledgable but not attentive and somewhat awkward to talk to. Besides the service being a bit sub par, we still had an excellent dining experience and I would recommend this as a fine place to eat.
Happy return after a few years. My husband and I went to Hardware for our anniversary 4-5 years ago and were disappointed--didn't live up to the hype, indifferent service--so we hadn't been back. Recently I was there for a lunch meeting and had an outstanding experience and love the renovated space. So for our recent anniversary, we went back. We had an AMAZING dining experience. We were seated at a lovely banquette for two, had an outstanding waiter (Kyle I think?), and the food was fantastic. Yes, it can get pricey, but the portions are hearty and the food was great, so I consider it a reasonable value. We will definitely be back and won't wait until the next anniversary.
Fantastic food that is worth the price (if you can afford it). I've always had great service and definitely lives up to its reputation. Personal favorite is the salted caramel creme brule with maple bacon donut!
This is the place you go to get treated to food Like no other! Not cheap but that's part of the beauty. Amazing service and to die for meals.
I had stopped going here several years ago after some sub-par experiences (door gras ice cold in centre and then returned burned) but after a recent lunch I have to give them their due. Lunch was exceptional. Grilled Ahi club sandwich with watermelon feta salad. I will definitely be heading back for dinner.
Fine Dining, again!. I feel almost spoiled to eat here every time my husband and I venture to Edmonton. I can always count on a perfect meal, great conversation and tasty after drink coffees that are to die for! I also adore reading the comment book before I leave.....
Another outstanding meal!. We enjoyed the early dining experience yesterday at The Hardware Grill. The BLT wedge was fresh and tasty, Larry favoured us with a small appetizer he did just for us. It consisted of a crostini with onion jam and topped with a fresh, house made cheese that was, as my daughter said, 'the best thing I've ever eaten'! We all enjoyed the steak frites. The frites are garlicky and taste deliciously of parmesan, the steak was juicy and flavourful. The desserts, the creamy, rich, Glenlevit butterscotch pudding w/ an oatmeal praline AND 2 coconut macaroons, was delicious! My daughter and husband ordered the lemon souffle, which was light and very lemony, accompanied by a scoop of house made raspberry ice cream (to die for!!) on top of a cookie. All in all, another outstanding meal by a chef with a true gift!
Entrees way too expensive.
Great Great Meal. I am impressed that Hardware Grill has been around for as long as it has and is still producing top-quality food. The beef carpaccio and smoked salmon with truffled pierogies were outstanding appetizers and well worth a trip all on their own. The arctic char was great but outshone by their accompaniment of lobster and truffle crepes topped with arugula and shrimp. The duo of elk and short rib was excellent, with the elk taking top marks. The gingerbread cake was like a warm hug and the salted caramel creme brulee had my wife raving. We have heard some dinners complain of sloppy or snooty service. We were fortunate to get a 15 year veteran of the restaurant who was outstanding and knew every dish. The room was too loud.
Amazing food and experience. A restaurant that, at least for me, has never had a flaw. I've been many, many times to the Hardware Grill and enjoyed an amazing meal with extremely attentive (without being overbearing) wait staff every single time. Everything that I've ever tried here has been amazing and worth every cent paid for it. That being said, it's not an inexpensive menu so don't plan on getting away with under $100 for two people (appetizer and entrée). For a special occasion or for any meal you want done right, I couldn't recommend it more.
Always come here... I always come here with my husband once a year. It's hard to get reservations during the xmas holidays though but when we do come, I always order the lamb which I love. Nice lighting and music, great service and great food & wine.
My husband brought me here for dinner for our anniversary. The food and service is impeccable. I had the sea bass and it was delicious. The dessert was wonderful too. Well worth the price. Went here again a few years later and the food and service is still amazing. Had the duck this time and the “KFC” (Korean Deep Fried Cauliflower) was amazing! I brought my two children with me this time around and they made everything so easy with them including offering to wash my toddler’s utensils that I had brought after our meal. Love this place!
