Pretty tasty Ethiopian food. I enjoyed my meal. It was smaller portions than you would normally find at the pricing, but that being said- I was quite satiated by the end of it and I usually leave similar restaurants being way too full.
The location is pretty simple and has lots of parking. A few tables to choose from and an washroom available.
The only hiccup for me was getting a receipt. It was made very clear to me that it was a hassle to produce one but I awkwardly waited it out. 🤷
Recently opened in Dartmouth. This Ethiopian Eritrean restaurant is epic and great to see east African restaurant opens in HRM.
Ali, the owner is a decent and welcoming gentleman who is generous with his suggestions when it comes to ordering and if you are in doubt.
Food is great and well prepared and the taste is mouthwatering. We ordered lamb tibs ( lamb pan fried with onion, garlic and green pepper) and doro wot ( thick curry-like dish made with chunks of chicken slowly coocked in spicy berbere sauce) and Ali suggested to make a combination of both in addition to 2 other items which were Sega Wat (chunks of beef slowly coocked in Ethiopian spices) and Shiro (a chickpea-like dish) and his suggestions were awesome and we enjoyed the food. I personally enjoyed the doro wot and lamb tibs and I recommend both.
Food is served with injera bread which is a sourdough-risen flatbread with a slightly spongy texture. Traditionally made out of teff flour, it is the national dish of Ethiopia and Eritrea (as defined in Wikipedia).
Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely go again and I do recommend Ali's Place.
Ali's food is delicious and brings a much-needed cuisine to Dartmouth! The injera was extra fluffy and all the dishes were full of flavour. We will be back!
