Located in the heart of “Korean Town” in Coquitlam and recommended by my Korean friend, this place is definitely legit. The AAA Short Rib here is one of the best Korean BBQ dishes that I have ever had. The Cold Noodle Soup is just as impressive. Jessica, the owner, really shows her passion for food and tradition at this place. I will definitely need to visit her Cafe Bono in the same complex next time. I’m looking forward to my next visit to Toe Dam, but I would try to come with a bigger group so that I can try everything else on the menu.
Came here on a Saturday around 1pm and was easily seated. Staff were very polite. Clean set up in the booths. Food was tasty and came sizzling (obviously depending on my order).
It’s been a while since I’ve had Korean food which feels odd to say because I used to go for it often. And then ironically enough, I went to Korean and since I’ve been back it has become less of a craving so we haven’t gone. Mother deer wanted to go out for dinner one evening and since she already went for Japanese food for lunch, we decided to go for Korean instead.
The restaurant is located in the “Korea Town” — the North Road area — alongside many other Korean stores and restaurants. We didn’t get the Peking Duck that we expected, but we got to grill more than a duck’s worth of meat! Overall flavours were quite on point. Price wise, certain things are more pricey than others. You just need to know to order the right things here.
You should try their famous duck bbq! Always a great quality! When you order the whole duck bbq, it also comes with the soup you can eat after. Pretty good customer service even though they are crazy busy at night. I wish they had more tables to take lots of customers. Make sure you get there early or late, otherwise you need to wait 30min to an hour.
Toe Dam is located on North Road in Coquitlam where you could find lots of Korean Restaurants, and it is on the same plaza as the H Mart. It is a small restaurant, and it is owned by Korean.
We went there around 5 PM, and there was 4 people ahead of us. We quickly put our name down on the clipboard next to the entrance. We waited about 20 minutes.
We tried Korean Pork Belly BBQ (Samgyeopsal, 삼겹살, also known as three layered pork). 😍😍 We added extra $4 to change the plain rice for Kimchi Fried Rice. Everything are in big portion.
The way you cook Korean Pork Belly is quite simple. You simply need to grill the meat on a Korean BBQ grill plate until both sides of the meat are cooked. Then you pick up one slice of pork belly and wrap it by a lettuce and add spicy dipping sauce with it.
Companion side dishes (Korean Banchan, 반찬) are always served in small portions which meant to be finished at each meal. Banchan are replenished during the meal if not enough. We got sweet potatoes, pickled onions, Kimchi, Seaweed.
Food: 4.5/5
Services: 4/5
Special Features: Korean Pork Belly BBQ, Kimchi Fried Rice
Suggestion: If you want to avoid long line up, you should get there early (before 5 PM).
Just before the winter holidays, I met up with a previous co-worker and we decided to have Korean BBQ. I read about this place on Zomato and thought I’d give it a try, rather than defaulting to Insadong. . The restaurant is quite small so make sure you arrive early, otherwise you will be waiting a while. If there are no tables available, there is a hanging board for you to write your name and the size of your party. Although the restaurant is small, it is sectioned into booths so you have some privacy. My friend and I were placed in the next available booth where it could easily seat a group of 6+!
Wonderful Korean cuisine. Go for the lunch specials which are reasonably priced. Go early for lunch because the place fills up fairly quick.
We were excited to a. be dining somewhere other than in surrey for once, and b. getting to eat some of the delicious pork belly bbq at toe dam. in our previous visits, the pork belly has been amazing (tender, juicy, and fresh); but this time around, it was clearly of the previously frozen variety (it was still semi frozen when served to us and the texture after cooking was different). it was still good-but not as good as what it used to be. service was a little chilly
Good Korean BBQ. Good for the price, not a bit fan of the ambience but the food I had so far were all great. Especially some of their lunch specials are well priced.
