Review M Cafe - Coquitlam

Favorite breakfast spot. Food comes out very fast. A+B combo is amazing. Best Chicken Steak and Best French Toast hands down. Lunch and dinner portions are also generous with reasonable prices tho there has been increases in pricing. We frequent here regularly for the last 6 years. Must support local family owned joints.

Location has lots of parking. Spacious and clean inside with lots of rooms for diner. There is an option to view the menu AND order via their phone app for dine in and food came in probably less than 15 minutes. Washrooms also very clean too. The host and waiter were polite and regularly refilled our tea. Prices and portions are decent. I will definitely come again with family and friends!

Food is good with generous portions! Service is quite fast which is nice if you’re hungry. However too much msg in food i think. Menu does offer quite a lot of variety for different taste.

Extremely disappointed at how terrible the experience was. The service was terrible and nobody ever came by to check up on us. We were asked to order online and the kitchen did not follow any of the special instructions I provided in my order. On top of that, the staff were not friendly, and when asked about why my order was wrong, they just said they blamed me for improperly filling out my order on their terrible online order system. The quality of food was terrible. Their steak was paper thin and lacked texture. The drinks that came with my food had no flavour in it and the straws they provided were so skinny that my mouth hurt trying to suck on it. I’ve been to my fair share of terrible restaurants and this has to have been one of the worst. It clearly shows that they do not care about their customers and their only concern is the money they are making. I’m no chef, but I could have cooked a better steak than the cooks here… Overall terrible experience and would only recommend this place to people who hate themselves.

Western design and most comfortable HK-styled cafe to spend our breakfast here. Ordered combo breakfasts which were yummy. HK-styled milk tea tasted original and good too! Servers are all polite and very efficient. Will come back to try other dishes soon😋😋

I like the food there, a great breakfast place. There was just so much food. The online order system is great. You can use it to order your food after you are seated at the restaurant.

Very conveniently located near Coquitlam Centre, lots parking spots. Food had pretty good portion and taste good - also flexible choices for vegetarians. The only thing is the ordering app (English version) is kind of confusing without pictures…

Finally went to this place after numerous positive reviews and it didn't really live up to my expectation. Ordered a dual steak combo set, the pictures and the website for ordering the food clear shows a sizzling plate but the food was served on a regular plate. Ordered the rib eye steak and the jumbo sausage. The steak was passable but the jumbo sausage was a major disappointment. At all the other HK style restaurants, you get a different kind of sausage, but here, you get the same basic sausage as your would when you order breakfast, just a larger size. For something that's 20 something dollars, I expected something better. We also ordered a baked Portuguese sauce chicken on rice. The taste was good but definitely on the saltier side. The restaurant seating was comfortable and service is passable, didn't have any high expectation for a HK Cafe style restaurant. Definitely wouldn't return because of the price/food though.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
All this social distancing is making us crave comfort food. We decided that the menu at M Cafe lent itself to fulfilling some of that craving. While we often look forward to the stereotypical curt service at Hong Kong style cafes (actually some of the friendliest service we have experienced has been at HK cafes), we were glad that they were at least offering take out.Located just a few blocks west of Coquitlam Centre, M Cafe has its take out service elevated to a science! I was totally impressed! We got home and began carefully assembling separately packaged ingredients into dishes. The first that we figured out (and devoured) was a soup combination with sate beef, fish ball and ramen noodles in Laksa. This frankly inspired combination was delicious. Its been a while since we had laksa and this was coconutty and rich!Next up was the considerably less confusing, Lotus Leaf Wrap with sticky rice and assorted Chinese sausage and meats. I love the slightly tobacco flavour that the leaf imparts. Black Pepper Shredded Beef with Pan Fried Noodles was another tasty dish. The black pepper sauce was very good with just a bit of bite. There was lots of beef and even more of the noodles. These were of the crispy sort which I wasn't expecting but they soaked up the sauce and made this into a wonderful thing. Finally, we had one of their lunchtime stone hot pot specials. This was Sliced Lamb Szechuan Spices with Spicy Szechuan Sauce on the side. It came over rice with a fried egg which fared well considering that it was first transported then eased into our serving bowl. More importantly, this was also very tasty. Just a nice hit of spice but not the peppercorn thing that we were sort of hoping for. Somehow, we had three dishes that came with drinks and I had not checked the options properly. Remember to do that if you decide to get take out from here. The menu has a myriad of possibilities.BTW, all this food came to less than $50 and Marie and I were fed for lunch and dinner.

This place serves fresh food, and has fast staff. If you ask them something to be delivered before anything else they’d try. Some says couldn’t bring a coffee inside but be respectful and ask if it’s ok to bring one rather than walk in with one. Sometimes they don’t care and sometimes they do. It’s all about asking permission as this is a restaurant where they serve what you most likely can bring from outside 🙏

This place has a no outside food policy. No. Outside. Food. Did buy a $6 coffee before you came here? Sorry, you'll have to throw it out. Is this a movie theater? Are they operating in 1950? Get a clue M Cafe. Don't get me started on the service / attitude of the staff.
Standard Hong Kong cafe menu. The place is a pretty good size with lots of tables and seating. We ordered the Fried rice noodle with egg and beef, deep fried pork chop on rice, and the grill set with steak and pork cutlet. Along with the grill set, we got the lobster bisque and jumbo size drinks with each meal. The lobster bisque was tasty and to our surprise, it came with pieces of crawfish...quite a few of them. Fried rice noodle was also tasty and up to standard. Same with the baked pork chop on rice. We only ordered the small size for $11 and was pleased with the portion size. Last to arrive was the grill set menu. The steak was definitely larger than other hong kong cafes i’ve been to so i’m quite pleased with the portion size. We ordered it with the wild mushroom cream sauce which was well done. Overall, i was satisfied with the food and would come back again to try other items on the menu.

came here for dinner, since we're in coquitlam my friend recommended me this place, so then, ordered a couple things, and wow the portions is humongous!!! are you kidding me but the flavour is over flavoured as well for most part. it's like some stuff like the sausage, and grilled meat is like overpowered with sodium. and other than that the taste is okay, but again it's okay because they also use a handful of seasoning enhancers, well sodium is part of it as well, but overall it's hmmm very suprising in a lot of ways, the cream soup is good, but the rest went downhill. price wise okay just because of the portion.

My family and extended come here and the manager had the nerve to tell us drinks from outside are not allowed and I said well then put a sign up because all other Chinese restaurants wouldn't have a problem. Everyone knows you can even bring alcohol into these joints. He wouldn't let up and so I had to drink in my car. If they had good coffee I would buy from them but they don't. Never coming back to this place again!

Beware of this restaurant!!!

I went to M Cafe where it has a “CASH ONLY POLICY FOR UNDER $25" in Coquitlam, B.C. for breakfast by myself.

When my bill came, I was surprised to find that there was a 10% Service Charge added to the amount.

When asked about the charge, I was told that the Cafe has a 10% Service Charge on individuals and a 15% Service Charge for a group of 10 or more policy.

I then asked if the 10% Service Charge on INDIVIDUALS was written on the menu, the answer was.. “No, it wasn't”.

In my personal opinion... Charging INDIVIDUALS a service charge – without warning or disclosure on the menu - was a license to steal from customers. It was against the law!

Welcome to my blog where I share my opinions on being an adult and post my reviews of stuff I buy and things I eat. Feb 15 BIRRY EATS: M Cafe - The Best Place for HK Style Breakfast. If you're a follower of mine on Instagram (@BirryRam), you'll recall my stories during weekend mornings where I am eating breakfast at M Cafe. One of my all time favourite meals is the macaroni in soup with ham in combination with two eggs, two pieces of spam, and a French toast sandwich. This type of food represents my childhood and my roots of Hong Kong.

The menu is really confusing because there's way too many dishes and types of cuisines to choose from. I ordered the double boiled soup with hot clay pot braised beef tripe, brisket, daikon and rice combo. It was quite tasty and the soup had chicken feet, peanuts and papaya, similar to how my dad used to make it. The hot clay pot beef was pretty good but needed more time for braising because the daikon was still hard. Overall, it was a decent meal. My husband ordered the seafood linguini and there was a good portion of fresh tasting seafood. It actually tasted better than the seafood linguini from the Old Spaghetti Factory. I ordered a House Special Noodle for take out for my mom and she said it was very tasty but portion was kinda small compared to other places. It came with a hot drink and she got the HK milk tea.

Stopped in for dinner on my way back from a weekend at Cultus Lake. It was a Monday evening and the restaurant was not busy at all. The restaurant is large with a very modern decor. They also had plenty of monitors in view and they had the Olympics on which was nice.

Service was prompt and the waiter came back with the beverages almost right away. Typical of most Hong Kong style restaurants, most items come with a hot beverage. It was well made and consistent with I expect.

Since I was by myself, I just ordered a roast chicken ho fan. I had never heard of this before and decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it was excellent! They stir fried the ho fan noodles perfectly and topped it with some veggies in gravy and a roasted chicken chop. The portion was also very generous, though I do believe I could get a similar portion of noodles cheaper in Richmond. If I'm ever in the area, I will come back.

If u in a rush, don't come to this place. Bad service !!!! And Very slow service!!!!! Plenty of empty tables in the restaurant and it still need to take over 10 mins to be seated and it's 11:33am when I get my seat and no breakfast can be order! I'm really disappointed with their service.

M Cafe really is your classic Hong Kong style diner with the ususal suspects and baked seafood rice thrown in. True, the decor is a bit nicer, but we all know that that is a carryover from the previous owner. There is nothing particularly original even memorable about this place, but it will fill you up if you're hungry.

My friend recommended this place for lunch as I was travelling through the area for work. I'm glad he did as I usually wouldn't just walk into a place like this. The price was very reasonable for the portions you get.

It's a very asian styled restaurant but was super busy when I went in there. The menu is very large so I'm glad I knew what I was ordering before going in.

I had the double boiled soup combo with the sweet and sour chicken. The soup was served in a ceramic covered bowl. I'm still not sure if I was eating it correctly, but I managed to keep the mess to minimum. The soup was good - a little different than what I'm used to , there were things in there I had no idea what they were.

The star of the lunch was the sweet and sour chicken. It was a huge serving and there was no way I was going to finish the whole thing on my own, but was happy to take leftovers home with me. The chicken was crispy, flavourful and moist with just the right amount of sauce. I would put it up there with the best sweet and sour dish I've ever tasted.

This HK style cafe offers a lot of varieties. You can eat both western and Chinese food here. I went for lunch and dinner with my family several times. We had good experience every time, so I would highly recommend this restaurant to others (for those who live in Tri-cities) and visitors from Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby. This restaurant does not do a lot of promotions but it is quite successful that there are a lot of customers to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is busy but the waiters and waitresses do not rush you to eat, pay and leave.

The portion of each dish is reasonable (not too small or too big). Prices are average comparing to other HK style cafes out there in Vancouver and Richmond.

I like it personally! :)

This is the reincarnation of Copa Café, as evidenced by the carbon copy menu and the manager, who was from Copa. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in that you know what you are getting if you have been to Copa. We actually enjoyed our dinner here, the lobster bisque is nicely done, and the sizzling plate set menu with choices of steak , fish and pork are tasty and filling. No complaints here.

This restaurant has become my staple. I do not understand how it has such bad ratings because the price is great for amazing food and pristine service.

Today I tried the Sliced lamb in szechuan spices (hot stone with rice). It was around $10 and it was filling. It also comes with a hot drink. I chose the almond milk. It tasted like a sweet Chinese milk.

Next, I tried the House special baked pork chop on rice. This tasted a lot like the Chinese version of boy ar dee tomato sauce. It tasted fantastic. It also came with a hot drink so I had the milk tea. The food and the hot drink came to $10 which is crazy cheap.

The waiters and waitresses are the best, and the atmosphere is sort of like the Cheesecake Factory. I went at 7pm and the food came in within 20 min. I will be coming back very often.

Saw the manager (?) from Copa Cafe, I guess he transferred over here? Anyhow, Elephant noted that the menu was all words and no pictures, which was true and made it difficult to decide what to order. Finally we decided to order something from each section. First we ordered from their Signature Double Boiled Soup set ($14.95) for Fish and Tofu pot. It came with rice and of course, the soup. Soup came first and it was rather salty, but tasted ok. Had pork and shark cartilage in it... like what you'd get from a soup package at T&T.

It’s been rather inconsistent, ever since I started this new job last year that I’ve been writing less and less consistent. Not sure if it’s the job or if my interest is shifting with age. But the food journey continues regardless. During this journey, I’ve learnt many things. For one, it’s not easy to create interesting content all the time. Second, it’s not easy to engage your readers either. Lastly, all these take time. And I guess that nobody has enough of. Okay enough of the intro, let’s get into “M Cafe”, Coquitlam’s newest Hong Kong style cafe. You might ask, what’s a “Hong Kong style

Excellent Food and Service. We went Saturday night. The food was the best Chinese we have had. Authentic and delicious! Everyone ( 6 of us) couldn't stop talking about how good it was. We look forward to going back the next time we are in Coquitlam.

They serve N. American cuisine as well, so the whole family will enjoy it. They just received their liquor licence (next time I will enjoy a glass of wine). This is an up and coming restaurant! You have to give it a try. Marcy Kelowna BC

Mr. M. Pilz. We went with the whole family, in total we were 6 people for lunch. The waiting time for our food was about 40 minutes total. Some people received their dishes in 10 minutes others 30 minutes later. Some of us had finished eating before the rest of us had started. When we complained, the waitress didn't understand a word of English. We had at least 4 different people serving us, but nobody who actually took care of us and our wishes and concerns. The restaurant was only about thirty percent full at the time. As we finally spoke to the manager, he told us that the next time we ordered we should let them know that we all wanted our food at the same time. ( we didn't order applies, but all of us had ordered individual plates). We didn't feel very welcome or taken care off. Food was ok.

Dishes lacked seasoning.. Date Visited: March 14, 2015

Food ordered: (1) Baked seafood on rice, (2) Linguini with lobster sauce (listed on the menu as "baked seafood on rice with lobster sauce). We were informed of the "typo" on the menu when we ordered but I decided to try it anyways.

The baked seafood on rice is almost identical to Copa Cafe's dish (rice, scrambled eggs, shrimp, mussel, fish, small scallops, topped with white sauce), but with less sauce, which made it a dry dish. I prefer this dish to be saucy. For the linguini, we were told that they were out of shrimp so it was just linguini, lobster, mushroom, onion, and sauce. I had one bite of the linguini and immediately wish I had ordered the baked seafood on rice for myself instead, usually my staple. My husband was kind enough to switch dishes half way. Unfortunately, the baked seafood was equally unpleasant. While the baked seafood dish had a sufficient amount of sauce, both dishes lacked seasoning and were quite bland.

Service: Quick service and attentive staff. Our food arrived quickly, about 5 minutes after we ordered.

Atmosphere: Nice decor. The restaurant was quiet despite it being about half full.

Thoughts: While M Cafe has similar menu, price, and portions as Copa Cafe, Copa has better food. I wanted to give a rating of 1, but husband wanted to give it a 2.

Return?: No, not unless they improve the quality of food.

Try few different food with my family and friends, everybody likes the food, good service, price is very reasonable. Don't understand why people say expensive, for the small portion is good for one person however the normal or big one is good for 2 persons. Taste is delicious, not other HK Style Restaurants in Coquitlam can compare with. 10 out of 10 is excellent.

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and SMALL PORTIONS. They have horrible customer service, the food is overpriced and the portions are small. The food was alright but I'd rather go eat somewhere else. Most of the waiters/waitresses are rude. I was excited to try a new restaurant in Coquitlam and was extremely disappointed. Same menu and staff as Copa Cafe. I'm glad I tried this place out cause now i know i would never go there again.

Terrible food n service. The hainanese chicken was not even hainanese style. It was just boiled chicken. Food is over priced, small in portion. Dishes made were not even using proper ingredients, definately trying to rip off those who don't know or can't tell. Example, they used udon instead of proper Chinese noodles to make shanghainese noodle dish. First owner won't admit, then when we told him, it is obvious it is udon, then he says everyone uses udon. Sorry, but no, honest restaurants and cooks don't!!! Ridiculous wait time for everything - to place order, to get food n to even get the bill. I will not even give this place a second chance! Waste of money!

Very similar to Copa Cafe, but the Cafe M menu is smaller and a bit confusing.

Lots of options - the food we ordered was decent for the price. They have 2 sizes Regular and Small. We ordered large which was a generous portion.

Server missed our soup order, but cancelled it on our request with no issues.

Food came quite quick and was hot.

All in all pretty good for a newly opened location.
Mike Chiu
Potions are large, but service doesn't have the hustle of s typical Chinese HK style restaurant and they forgot an item on our order. And they need better menus, all written, not well organized and no pictures.
