Mega Sushi

Mega Sushi was our go to place for dinner yesterday, after some afternoon medical appointments in the Austin Heights area of Coquitlam.  The restaurant is located within a small plaza of shops, with a good-sized parking lot - we arrived about 4:30 pm, and easily found parking directly in front of the restaurant.

After an initial welcoming upon entering, we were directed to a booth (one side of the restaurant has booths, the other side, tables & chairs) - our server returned promptly with menus and mugs of hot tea.  The restaurant was empty of other customers at the time, but all staff were busy taking and preparing orders for takeout (several customers came in for such during our stay there).  I ordered a couple of appetizers, and then placed the rest of our order just before the first appetizer arrived at our table - the other dishes arrived soon after we had received the second appetizer.  Nice service, and it worked well for us.  Service was good throughout our meal - friendly and efficient - checking on how we were enjoying the food, and keeping our tea mugs full.

What we (threesome) ordered and shared: 

-  Appetizers -- spicy agedashi tofu, and ebi gyoza (pan-fried dumplings w/prawn and veggies) (5pcs) - two, very well-prepared dishes, each pretty, and so flavourful — sauce with the tofu had a tasty ’zip’, and the tofu itself, so soft, and creamy — the prawn gyoza was such a nice treat - coverings tender, ingredients so distinctly flavoured and tasty.       

-  Tempura -- prawn and yam (8pcs) —  batters were thin and crispy, prawns, firm, not overcooked, and yam slices, a touch ‘el dente’, perfect.  A very good preparation of a favourite dish.     

-  Sushi and Roll combinations -- spicy salmon combo (spicy salmon roll, w/2pcs each of tuna, salmon, and prawn nigiri), and roll combo (California roll, w/tuna, salmon, and kappa rolls) — the spicy salmon rolls were really good, very flavourful and spicy, the sauce, as with that on the tofu, had a nice distinctive and tasty zip - the nigiri preparations were ok, looked and tasted fine, but nothing out-of-the-ordinary — the California rolls and other rolls in the roll combo were fine, decent preparations, but lacked ‘something’ to really make them stand out from others we’ve tasted elsewhere.  Overall, the combo preparations were fine, they just did not present anything particularly unique. 

-  Noodles -- seafood yaki udon (pan-fried-thick noodles, w/seafood) — a very fine preparation, brought looking good, and really sizzling-hot to the table - the noodles were great, for my taste, perfectly-prepared (still a very small touch firm), the other ingredients (mussel, clams, squid, bean sprouts and other veggies) much the same, if anything, a touch undercooked - the sauce so flavourful and tasty, and used perfectly, adequately flavouring the ingredients, but not drowning them, as we’ve often experienced elsewhere.  This was such a fine dish, a major ‘yum’, and so well-enjoyed. 

Overall, we experienced some very tasty food and good service, in a pleasant ambiance - we sure enjoyed our dinner dining experience at Mega Sushi.

This is my go-to sushi restaurant! Always great food and friendly service.

Best sushi in the tri-cities. Fantastic sushi spot, my favorite by far. Their teriyaki bowls are second to none and come in huge portions. My favorite is their tofu teriyaki don, which most places don't do.

Never had a bad meal here, and often receive a complimentary appetizer courtesy of the chef. If you like good sushi, go here!

The food was amazing here!!! We had three special rolls and salmon sashimi. The portions were so generous while still maintaining excellent quality! My favorite roll tonight was definitely the Austin roll which had tuna tatami on top mixed with spicy sauce, sweet mayo, and a dynamite roll inside. It was delicious!!! I will definitely be coming back again. The place is small and doesn't have many tables, so it's probably best not to go with more than four people.

Suburb Sushi!. Awesome tasty menu with all the favorites and a specialty roll section. The spicy california roll was so good, the sauces were excellent, and gave a nice flavor to the roll, the cream cheese salmon roll was good too, the spicy mad tuna roll was very tasty, it was served with a different kind of spicy sauce, and had the tempura bits inside which i like. The prawn tempura was very good too. So close to adding as a favorite

My Favourite Sushi !. I came to Mega Sushi with my Boyfriend for our dinner, and the waitresses were very friendly and outgoing. I ordered the restaurant special, the Mega Special Bento B. My boyfriend ordered the Canucks Roll and the King Roll. The Sashimi was one of the best and fresh, the tempura were very crispy. The King Roll was very impressive and fantastic. This store is definately one of the best in Coquitlam and I'm looking forward to going their again next time.

We’ve ordered more than 10 times and never got disappointed. All of the dishes on menu are fantastic. Also great taste when you take it home. The oshi sushi is greeeeeeeat! Special rolls are amazing. And try their katsu! Udon! Highly recommend. Still, something I do not like: tuna bite, yakisoba and yakiudon.

Fast, friendly service, great roll sizes, wide selection. Clean and open atmosphere. We used to love a lot closer and come more often. We were happy to come back. Highly recommended.

THE BEST SUSHI!!! Consistent, fresh, delicious. I have multiple food allergies and they are accommodating. Wonderful family owned business, you can tell they truly care about their craft. Highly recommended!
