We LOVE this sushi place! We often order takeaway to collect, and everything is always packaged nicely and tastes great, with good prices! I don't eat in as often, but we did come here a couple of weeks ago for a nice dinner, and it was lovely. Eating in lets me step out of my regular ordering as well! The waitress was super sweet, albeit I felt bad as she was the only one for all of the tables on top of the constant handover of Skip the Dishes and customers picking up. She was lovely and looked after us well. Really like the tempura here too - I don't order it often, but when I do, it's here. Honestly, great portions and quality for a small unassuming sushi joint in the NW. I must make a comment though - we definitely felt there should be some subtle background music or even a TV playing to make it less quiet. It was pretty quiet at times and I always feel weird at restaurants that have no background sound.
I have a theory about sushi joints in strip malls -- they exist for a reason. You don't come to the strip mall expecting a 4-star dining experience, especially one with name like Yume -- get it? Lots of entendre. But surprisingly some of the best sushi is found in these out of the way places and this is one of them. When I go into a new spot the fist thing I look for is miso soup -- if it's more that $1.50 leave immediately. There is absolutely no reason for miso to be more than $3, it's basically bean paste tea. The rest is semantics. The art of sushi isn't in the food as much as the details. And from reading the past reviews Yume seems to have upped it's game. Which is nice to see because it's surprisingly good and surprisingly affordable.
The value here is incredible! $1 sushi?! And that being said, this is very high quality seafood. The sashimi was right on spot! Perfectly fresh and sliced beautifully.
The decor here is pretty plain Jane though so don't go here for a date night. Sadly the beef tataki (my favourite dish) was underwhelming. The beef was too thick and it really lacked flavour. Service was very good and they do serve alcohol (not a great variety though).
For the value and a high quality weeknight sushi fix, this is your place. 😊🍣
