Restaurant itself is a dump, but who cares when you have fried chicken that's this good! Fries are pretty awesome too. Forget KFC, smokehouse is the place to go.

Ya, the guy running the joint isn't the nicest at times and the decor isn't the prettiest, but its all just part of the show....he's much friendlier to me when i come in with my Mohawk tho.
Definitely will return again & again.
It's a hole in the wall, but serves great food so get over it. Smokehouse Diner is always a great stop for lunch when I am in the area. I really like their chicken - I have yet to find a better piece of fried chicken in this town yet. I especially like the chicken here because even though it is fried, there is not a lot of grease due to the broaster style of cooking.
Good chicken. I liked the crispy chicken, but still like Chicken on the Way a bit more. This place is walking distance from home and I'll likely be back.

Best Chicken In Calgary`. When you first drive up to Smokehouse Diner, it looks like a bit of a hole in the wall. Don't let the décor or Ogden scare you away, this is THE BEST chicken in the city. The best food usually comes from places like this and Doc wont let you down. The chicken is hot, crispy, and DELCIOUS. I like to order the Spicy kind, and it is amazing. These other reviewers may have caught Doc on a bad day (everyone, even restaurant owners have bad days), but he is a sweet man who just wants to put chicken in your belly! I have recommended many friends and coworkers to this place and everyone thanks me for it. If you love fried chicken, try this place out. And if Doc seems grumpy, just offer him a high five and he'll cheer right up.
PS: Check out Smokehouse Diner in the TV Show Fargo. "Joe's Coffee Shop" was filmed in the Smokehouse Diner! Pretty cool!
GREAT PRESSURE COOKED CHICKEN. Not greasy al all. Decor is a bit simple but the food is great and the service quick iIf you are looking for good chicken at a reasonable price this is the place
I really can’t say enough about how awesome I thought this place was and its become a bit of a Thursday regular at the workplace. If you love fried chicken as much as I do — even if you like fried chicken half as much as I do, check it out.
