A Pleasant Surprise
came upon this restaurant by accident and glad we did. normally only come to this mall to shop at T&T and a Bubble Tea. this time, we happened to come at supper time and so originally thought to go to Pebble Street, but due to where we parked
This place is pretty great. The portions are decent, and the soup is delicious. Go in expecting Chinese restaurant service, and stop complaining about it. It's not a surprise. You gotta get BOLD in places like this. Hold up a hand to get their attention. Don't be white and polite. Just get it done.
My boyfriend and I went to The Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot Restaurant. It was us “N” times been to this restaurant, but it was the first time having food at the Calgary location. Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot is a Chinese Hot Pot restaurant. It has so many locations in all over the world. There are lots of locations in Canada. There is only one location in Calgary. The Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot Restaurant in Calgary is located at 999 36 St NE #100a Calgary.
Environment:
The restaurant was opened around 11 am. We arrived Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot Restaurant around 11:30 am. The restaurant was not busy. We could get a table very easy. Inside the restaurant, it was very nice and clean.
Service:
After we sat down, the server brought the menu to the table. There were two different kinds of menus. One is for all you can eat and another one is lunch menu. We had the Lunch Menu to order. We ordered two lunch combos and two lamb strews for lunch. The food came out the kitchen fast.
Food:
The meat was super fresh. The soup base was very tasty. There are lots of dipping sauces, which is great. Each combo includes noodles, vegetable, and meat. But, it was a super small portion. Also, the lamb strews were small and cold. I’m not very like it. But, my boyfriend loved them.
Price:
The prices of the lunch combos were around $15 include the tax. It was great. The lamb strews were over prices.
The service at the restaurant was excellent. We went during the time that it was not too busy. We went on a weekday, later in the afternoon. The waitress that served us was very friendly, informative and
knowledgeable. The waitress asked us if it was our first time at the restaurant and we replied with, "yes." The waitress then proceeded to explain how ordering went about and gave us free beverages because it was our first time there. We got the plum juice and the plum juice tasted like the dried and salted plums, but was delicious because it reminded me of that taste. The hot pot was delicious and the price was not that expensive. There are different broths for the hot pot that you can choose from. The restaurant looks very nice inside and is very large. The tables have hot plates to heat up the hot pots. The washrooms are clean and well kept. The atmosphere of the restaurant is friendly and lively. I would go to this restuarant again.
First time eating here. Been to 1 pot. This place is far better. Was very clean and great service. Severs explained how everything works for the all you can eat. Large amounts of food for each order. Definitely didn't go hungry. Wasn't rushed to eat. Will be going back!
I've been here twice now, both times with groupons. Each time we opted for the half and half, and really enjoyed both broths. The spicy was especially good for cooking in, though it was a bit hard to eat around all the chile's which were really bitter when I accidentally ate one.
I haven't had hot pot before, so don't have anything to compare it too, but the selection seemed good, the fatty steak, kimchi, and dumplings in particular were tasty. But the lamb was really strong though, and the shrimp weren't de-veined, and after you pull a hot shrimp from broth it's kinda hard to take the shell off and clean it... we didn't eat them. All the seafood was actually pretty bad. Chewy and frozen.
I'd have given them a higher rating except both times I've been here they didn't bring us some of the things we ordered, and brought us things that we didn't.
Over all I quite enjoyed the experience of hot pot, but it's likely I'll go elsewhere next time.
We tried Little Sheep twice using a Groupon. We never had Asian hotspot so it was a new experience for us. The first time, we got half of each broth type. We liked the spicy, but found it made more sense to go with the regular the second time and spice things up from the dip buffet. I found that for the vegetables, it was not clear how much you were ordering. Unlike the meats, there was nothing on the menu that indicated how much was one portion. The garlic beef is yummy and we also love the wontons. I wish that the dip counter had more options. Both times we went they also had no green onions
Even though there was a place for it. It was good on a cold Winter night.
This is likely the best hot pot I have been to in Calgary. They have an all you can eat option where you can order all the meat,
Vegetables, tofu, Noodles and dumplings you want ! The original broth is delicious with tons of flavor once some meat has cooked in it. They have a "dip" bar where you can create your own dips with: garlic, coriander, Chili oil, sate, peanut sauce etc etc. Very delicious !! The dumplings were probably my favorite - they were fresh made and turned out delicious in the broth. I also really enjoyed the slices of beef, white turnip, mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and glass noodles. I am already planning my next trip back ! The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Definitely one of the better places in Calgary for Hot Pot. There prices are average even when you factor in the fact that broth is an additional charge. Free refills on pop and plum juice. Meats are seafood seems very fresh. The quality is also better than most. Menu is slightly limited though. I wouldn't say REALLY limited. but it's about 80% of what you would get at most places. Service is okay, but you can't expect too much when you're going to a Chinese place.
Tried out this place today and I was actually quite pleased! The beef and seafood for the all you can eat hotpot was nice and fresh, and I really enjoyed making my own dipping sauce. Price was also very reasonable - restaurant looks newly renovated and place was very clean. Will definitely be coming back!
