Wasabi Restaurant Calgary
"I Brake For Sushi"
I love sushi and for decades searched every corner of the globe to satisfy my cravings for the appetite-quenching healing high amino flavours only the best knives prepare. Spending half my time in Asia, I fell in love with what at the time a relative hole-in-the-wall .... Couldn't stay away.
On my third visit that first week (the prices are very very low for the quality) I even brought my wife who doesn't eat sushi (yah, surprise) knowing anyone who can do it this good can do anything with fish; and I brought the young owner Eddie Sung a doppler magnum of champagne to impress upon him my gratitude having him move to my home city and my hope that he would stay.
Actions are almost always, better than words. So is his sushi.
I have been going to Wasabi for years and have not found a better sushi restaurant in Calgary. The fish is always fresh and melt-in-your-mouth, something you rarely find anywhere. As another reviewer noted, their crispy salmon skin is amazing. I have never seen that served at another Japanese restaurant.
The staff, especially the owner, is always friendly and they go out of their way to accommodate any requests. The restaurant is very clean, comfortable and quiet.
There have been so many new sushi restaurants opened in Calgary since Wasabi first opened their doors. Some offer quantity over quality, like the all-you-can-eat places, and some focus on creating new options. There's a place for everyone's preferences. But if you just want basic, fresh, and tasty sushi, this is the place to go.
Came here tonight for the first time and had a quick dinner. The place is very quaint and the service was pleasant. My boyfriend and I shared an assortment of nigiri and two rolls. The fish was decently fresh and the rolls held together well. I really enjoyed the $1.00 nigiri. It's always nice when you can get a good feed of sushi for an affordable price. I'll go back for sure
