This pho joint is good! The broth is actually how it should be. The service is quick and friendly. The menu is veyy simple as well. I will definitely be back.
Not bad for a pho place in the NE. Tender beef, pho broth good flavour and noodles up to par. Would eat again, it's better than most the pho shops in downtown and west side. Well the truth is if you have a pho restaurant in the NE you can easily go bankrupt if it isn't at least average.
The place itself is clean. I came here as my friend recommended it to me. I had the vermicelli with spring rolls and pork, and I must say that they have good flavor, the spring rolls aren't over fried and the beef was not burnt and had a good flavor to it. Spring rolls were nice and smooth, and was cooked fully. The sauce was also good, I enjoyed it because it wasn't overdosed with fish sauce, thus it smelled good. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy, also another plus side to the dish.
I recommended this place to a friend who works nearby. He told me that the food is fantastic. He ordered the Pho with a side of spring rolls. Having never eaten here, nor ever visited the country of Canada, let alone the city of Calgary, I can only assume from his experience that this is the single best Pho place in all of Canada. The food certainly looks delicious. I would definitely recommend Pho Ha again.
Located immediately next to the London Drugs, Pho Ha is average sized for a Vietnamese restaurant, although it does fall slightly on the smaller end of that spectrum. I went into the shop 20 minutes before closing, confident in my pho-devouring abilities as long as my bowl was served relatively quickly. The decor was nothing to write home about, and what you would expect from a Pho shop. I was greeted enthusiastically by a guy who I can only assume to be the owner, and was seated down promptly. I ordered the 'large' (medium-sized among S, L, & XL) of the Special Beef Noodle Soup, which came out within 5 minutes.
The broth was slightly different than what I'm used to, and while I wouldn't say that it's better than Pho Thanh (my local favourite), it certainly wasn't bad and the bowl was loaded with toppings. The portion was decent for $9, and I would return to Pho Ha again if I was in the area.
My co-worker and I actually stopped at another pho place only to discover it was closed! A quick Google search led us to Pho Ha. Walking in I could tell it was a decent sized, but unassuming place with a steady clientele. We shared an order of springs and dumplings. I got the chicken sate and she got the beef sate. The spring rolls came out piping hot and fresh. They were really good and I want to eat another round of them right now. The dumplings were okay and were more dumpling wrapper then filling. I did enjoy the sweet soy sauce we got as a dipping sauce. The sate pho was spicy, but lacking the peanut taste described in the menu. Still, it was a good bowl of pho with some nice big chunks of chicken breast. Overall I left satisfied with my meal and I wouldn't hesitate to come back.
Delicious!. The food here is awesome, price is cheap and the people leave you alone to eat. They give you extra beef (with charge) for your soup and the vegetables are always fresh. I get the beef pho, my husband pho sate, salad rolls, spring rolls and the vietnamese coffee is yummy like in Vietnam. dont listen to the picky reviews. If the place is dirty it is because they have been too busy as a lot of people love it here
Their sate pho is good. Large portion.
There are food stains on utensils. Not very hygienic in general.
Edit: Quality of dishes has dropped significantly. For ex. One of their rice fishes use to have shrimp paste in beancurd, pickled vegetables. Now to save cost and labor, instead of shrimp, they mix more pork as a filler, and instead of pickled vegetables, they give shredded lettuce n carrots.
XL 16. Had the rare beef satay soup. Broth was clear but tasty. still needed to be flavoured with Hoisin and hot sauce. beef was very nicely cut and came rare and cooked in the broth. noodles were very nice. Overall size was decent. I left full. Price was amazing under 10 bucks with a pop and tip. Overall rating 8.5 out of 10. Will go back if in the area.
Ordered the number XL 16 -- pho sate and shrimp rolls. First thing I liked was jasmine tea was served immediately when we sat down and was free. Sate was not too spicy but still tasty. Not thick a thick broth but still good. The meat was rare upon arrival like it should be and cooked in the broth. Peanut sauce was thick as were the salad rolls. I would come here again. Overall rating 8.6 out of 10.
