Lovely cozy place with yummy food options. Ordered pork and cheese which was too delicious and the cheese just melted in the mouth. Pork bone soup is another favourite - quite sufficient for 4 people 😁
Last weekend we were here to have a nice dinner. 2 of us finished this massive noodle soup, it definitely goes great with soju. For cold days and if you are into a stronger drink for after work I suggest here. It's not fine dinning but fit into the nice happy let's have drinks and laugh the night away. It's definitely one of my favourite late night kfood and drinking spots.
The Pretentious Food Snob

Korean for ‘pay day’ (or at least according to my Korean coworker), Don Day is a tiny hole in the wall on 9th street and 7th ave, in downtown Calgary. Literally a hole in a wall. The restaurant is TINY, furniture is made from empty storage containers, and most of the signs in the store are in Korean so foreigners are shit out of luck (the waitress understand numbers and furious pointing).
But…
Something I look out for when going to ethnic restaurants is the clientele. As a rule of thumb, if a Chinese restaurant is filled with Chinese people, they probably have more authentic Chinese food.
In our case, my companion and I were the only non-Koreans in the restaurant.
Lets see if my hypothesis holds true.
The new cup lunch sign brought me into this tiny place.
Tried the spicy chicken cup lunch which comprised chicken in a red spicy chilli sauce, shredded nori, yam noodles, lettuce layer and rice at bottom of a 16 oz (500 ml) paper.
The spicy chicken had a good kick. Mixed together, they made delicious, light lunch. Great alternative to the corner hot dog stand.
Order was served within 5 mins and I was done in 15. Food was probably pre-made and served to order.
Would come back for other items
Great prices for great food! The portions are massive (as you can tell from the picture, that isn't a small packet of noodles but merely a huge pot!) for a reasonable price and we didn't have to wait too long to be served. The staff are also very friendly and answered any questions we had about recommendations and serving size. Glad I found another place that is actually open past 5 PM on the weekend in Downtown Calgary!
Great little restaurant that opened for lunch now (last 2 months). The pork bone soup I had was quite good in portion and taste for $14.99. My friend had the kimchi udon ($9.99), which she loved and finished all. A good option for downtown lunch! :)
I love this restaurant so much. We had the spicy grilled chicken for 2. The food come raw in a pot, so you need to cook it yourself. The noodle on top will stick to the bottom,so when you are frying or yourself you might not want to get the noodle to the bottom so soon. However the food taste so great, we finished it so fast once it cooked we don't even have time to take a picture! It was by far the best Korean restaurant! We place an extra order on the spicy soft tofu stew because the stir fry just tasted so great.
The spicy tofu stew is simply just great! The soup is so fresh and so flavourable! The squid is a little tough for my liking and not much seafood in the pot. But believe me the tofu and the both tasted so good. That it is all wroth it.
The waitress is so friendly that she gave us an extra kimchi on the side, normally i am not a big kimchi fan, but I loved it! She is patient in explaining things to us and come back to take our order in a very timely manner!
I will come back with a group of people and recommend all my friends and family to come to this place if they ever come to Calgary! Too bad I live in Saskatoon, otherwise it will probably be one of the place I will frequent!
Not bad for average quality Korean food. I feel like you can get better gamjatang in the city, since they don't even put potatoes in the soup anymore. It's kind of pricy but it's a good place for a drink with friends!
Don day is more of a pub than a restaurant. They have the best gamjatang. I like how their atmosphere feels like you are actually in korea. Only down side about this place is that you will smell like bbq after eating here.
Tucked away in a tiny hole in the way, this Korean restaurant stays true to its roots with a traditionally inspired menu. The atmosphere is reminiscent of old school Seoul, and the food is authentic to its core. Their key menu item though, would definitely have to be the pork bone soup, with built in burners at each table designed to make it a home cooked experience. Definitely worth a try for those Korean food lovers.
