We love this place! Food is yummy and we haven’t tried anything we don’t like yet. We always order the Sweet and Vinegar Basa, Salted Fish Fried Rice, Salt and Pepper Squid, and Fried Green Beans w/ Garlic! I highly recommend this place!
Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in Calgary. By far!!!! Their corn crab soup is amazing. Sweet and sour pork, ginger chicken, special fried rice, deep fried crispy Basa! It's all amazing!
They only offered us medium spice and good thing too! We are both spice lovers and the spice level left our noses running, lips burning, and tongues tingling... in a good way! We tried the Dan Dan noodles, dried chili chicken w/o bones, and Szechuan HOT Wonton Soup. All were excellent and full of flavor and spice. Had lots to take home. Great service and overall experience.
Ordered the kung pao chicken, stir friend green beans, dumplings and salt and pepper squid. everything was delicious! Definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in town, just beware of the spice 🌶 😁
Pretty exceptional food. We started off with an order of Spring Rolls ($3.50 for 2), which were some of the best I've had in a while: perfectly crisp and seasoned well. We also tried the pan fried pork dumplings, which were also really good (very similar to regular pork dumplings, but just a prettier shape). Next we tried the Ma Po Tofu ($12.98) and the Ginger Chicken ($13.98): so, so good! The Ma Po Tofu had just the right amount of heat, and the savoury pork married with floral Szechuan peppercorns and spicy bean sauce was absolutely delicious. The Ginger Chicken was by far some of the best in Calgary: a sticky, sweet and spicy sauce enveloping tender pieces of chicken - it doesn't get much better than that! The staff here were also very friendly, and service was great. I'll definitely be back soon!
We went to Szechuan Restaurant as a team work lunch on Monday. The restaurant was relatively empty at noon except for a few tables.
We ordered:
1) Mild Green Beans - mild (delicious)
2) Large spicy bowled basa soup - mild (also delicious)
3) Beef brisket bowl - no spicy (okay)
4) kung pao chicken - mild (surprisngly really good with the roasted peanuts in it) - not pictured
The service was average (standard for a Chinese restaurant).
The decor was average (on the better end of some Chinese restaurants I've been to).
The food was delicious but we all agreed that we could have gone to medium. Mild had barely any spice to it.
High 5 for spiciness. I challenged myself to eat the spiciest flavor for their bean curd noodles and yes I failed to finish it. Extremely spicy. Next time I will try rice and spicy viand let us see if I can successfully see an empty plate. I love the Shanghai rolls and Wonton soup. They have complimentary Jasmine tea which is good cause I was little cold on a winter night. So far, will be coming back for another spicy meal :-) Don't forget to order bulk of tissue napkins for blowing of your runny nose haha.
A Saturday night at Szechuan for my dads birthday: My dad chose this place because he loves spicy and wanted to try authentic szechuan. Reservation for 6pm and the restaurant was moderately busy. They have the biggest menu I have ever seen, the choices are almost overwhelming. For the 8 of us we ordered dumplings, soup and 6 other dishes including the ultra spicy szechuan beef. Everything we ordered was delicious with the dumplings being the shining star. Myself I dislike asparagus but the asparagus dish they serve here I could eat everyday. The ginger beef was unlike any I have had before in a good way. The only knock on the night was that the food took about 45 minutes to come out so we were all getting a little hangry waiting for it. I definitely am coming back to Szechuan Restaurant, hopefully sooner than later.
We were told by some Chinese friends that if you wanted authentic cuisine then this place is a must. Five years after and we still hit up here for their food. We always order shrimp fried rice, fish in sauce and chilli boneless chicken (careful it's hot!). Food is always consistent and flavorful. This isn't your regular Chinese place in every strip mall, this is the real deal.
Unique place with unique and amazing food. You have to go once if you love Chinese food. Keep your mind open its a traditional kind of place, they are just doing their thing.
