I cannot believe this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating. They definitely deserve it.
Absolutely loved this place. We visited in July during our trip to Calgary. Their hand spun noodles and skewers are excellent. Prices are very reasonable too. I visited with family and all of us enjoyed our meal. At first, some of us were a bit thrown off by the lady who was serving us as she sounded a bit rude. But then a very friendly man (not sure whether he's the manager or owner) came by to ask if we liked our meal. And to be honest, the food was just so good we didn't care much about the service!
Will definitely go back if I visit Calgary again and I've been recommending this place to anyone I know who is visiting!
We had a great time at Tang Dynasty! It's in the heart of China Town and it's pretty small so you may not get a seat right away. But the wait is pretty worth it. The soup was amazing. I absolutely loved the Chinese pork burger. The dumplings were good and they have a whole bunch of skewers on their menu. Highly recommended!
Intimidated by Chinatown? Don’t be! Hand-pulled noodles is one of a handful of items this restaurant is known for! Special thanks to my friends for first recommending, but also for discovering lamb skewers on the menu. Tip: Order the Hand-pulled noodles in chili oil and add beef. What sounds like a simple dish is surprisingly complex with flavour, bite and tender beef. The skewers were also a nice surprise and a great starter. If opting for a meal I would recommend the larger order for skewers.
New Tang Dynasty is one of my favourite spots for lunch in Chinatown. The flavours are fierce and spicy. The portions are generous, particularly the lamb dishes. For this post let’s listen to Johnny Cash – Hurt. My father loves Johnny Cash plus I did hurt myself eating lunch at New Tang.
Have been to this place several times, I remembered that their pita bread soaked in lamb soup was good. This time, I had Lanzhou Ramen. Generally speaking it’s ok, but ramen is not freshly stretched noodles, and beef quality was not very good in my opinion.
Came here with a coworker and was introduced to an authentic Chinese restaurant with some fantastic dishes.
Lamb soup, spicy stretchy noodles, lamb skewers, and pork buns were all outstanding!
I’ll definitely be back.
I was figuring out where to have my last meal of this trip when I stumbled upon New Tang Dynasty and found out they specialize in northern Chinese food, specifically Xi’an cuisine. Yessssssss. Especially since Auntie’s Chinese Burger closed up shop, I can’t think of any other places in Cowtown that do homemade, hand pulled noodles.
This is my favourite restaurant for Chinese food. The foods are spicy and is not your typical chinese food. I ve been there 3 times and the server remember me. She's very nice and ask for less spice in my food because she know it will be too spicy for me. Liang Pi is my favourite dish so far. I will definitely go back there.
We tried New Tang Dynasty tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. It was about 8:30 and not many places in Chinatown were open (besides the usual suspects like Calgary court and Vic's, but we wanted something a little different) so we decided to give this place a try (they open until 10pm). My husband got the Sour & Spicy pork noodles with soup and I got the pulled noodles with park without soup.
The pulled noodles were chewy and really good and had a nice flavour. The sour and spicy noodles had a little kick to it, nothing awful, but a burn-your-lips kind of spice. I believe there is some sort of black vinegar in this so if you're not into that taste, don't get this. But there was a lot of interesting items on the menu that we can wait to come back and try out. Very reasonable prices.
Authentic Chinese noodles! Only for people who look for real Chinese food, not your typical ginger beef or sweet and sour stuff. :-) Get the spicy broad noodles.
