I would have rated 3.6 if I could. I liked their hush brown as they were not deep fried. My ‘california’ is not a bad choice if you like omelet. Toast was good. Burger and other dishes are ok but nothing special. It’s a place with characters and good service though. I liked the atmosphere, cozy and busy.
While running some errands, D suggested we stop here for a bite. He hadn't been in years, and I'd never been so I thought it was a great idea. We were both starving and it was very cold out, what with it having snowed the last couple of days, so we popped in and were seated at a window booth. I tried the hot chocolate and Mr. Boring had water. The place is chaotic, there's no end of random old knickknacks to look at, so it took me a while to pick what to try and in the end I went with the Nellie's Hash done with chorizo.
When the hash arrived, it was HUGE. When they say 'mountain' of hash browns they aren't exaggerating. They were more like fried potato chunks than hash browns, everything was sautéed well, and they were nice enough to do the eggs scrambled for me (I can't handle runny eggs). I had sourdough toast to go with it, but it was very hard to finish everything. It's your typical idea of diner food, lightly greasy but in a good way. I left absolutely stuffed and I needed help to clean off the plate because there was so much on it. The hollandaise was nice and thick, and there was plenty of it which is always good.
When we were chatting as we were paying the bill she gave us some candy, which seems to be a thing at that place - they have a lot of lollipops and whatnot. I think next time I'd like to either try the pancakes or one of their omelettes.
Oh MK DO Nald's
+3.5
Sharing my Saturday morning breakfast to you foodies. So I've been putting an eye on this diner every Monday when I go to work. And just this morning I stopped by to dine-in. Well I choose the window seat to have a good view of the sleepy morning Saturday as the lady server hand me a complimentary brewed coffee and glass full of iced cold water. I ordered Ukranian breakfast meal which is their popular dish if you need an extra energy for the day. So as I was waiting she hand me the newspaper. The ambiance is pretty good, I love the vintage designs and displays. The diner is very accessible to Bus stop 2 Mt. Pleasant, to early joggers and late people who just had a Friday night party. So my meal was ready, a large plate of sliced potatoes, sausage, 2 poached eggs on top of it with hollandaise sauce with small slice of orange and wintermelon and 4 pcs. of multi-grain toast. So yeah, it taste good but for an Asian girl like me, it was sumptuous that I can't finish the whole thing. But probably for someone who needs a gigantic brekky in the way should order this meal. So my usual 2-4 hour digestion will sure be prolonged, so I had breakfast at 7am and I feel like I will have my next meal by around 3-4pm. $8 for the cheapest meal and $14 for the most expensive plate. And yeah, I know you just need breakfast, not a feast. Try it too, you will have a complimentary coffee and just spend something to munch to start your day.
I love this place! Love the retro style of the place and the food is awesome when you're looking for diner style food - which I always am haha. Super reasonable prices for lots of food, and they have gluten free options for several of their menu items.
Love this trendy retro cafe. The portion sizes are large so arrive hungry. The staff are alway fast friendly and most helpful They have a really fun patio as well. This cafe can get very busy at prime times .Love the fried Banana bread!
Went to Nellies for the first time this morning. Cute little breakfast place. Atmosphere was a great way to start my day. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Pretty simple and easy. I could have made it home but I didn't. So thumbs up for a yummy tasty breakfast. The hashbrowns were cut thick and well seasoned.
Ordered the Nellie's Hash and it was made perfect. It was busy on a Sunday afternoon. I recommend this place. Great staff and great environment.
I LOVED IT. Homemade food that tastes like home, cheap, fast, extremely friendly service! Small, cozy place where you get taken care of way much more than anywhere else in Calgary.
My wife and I stumbled on this great little joint. The main floor was full, but there was room upstairs. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, and before too long we were enjoying our breakfast, prepared just the way we ordered. Coffee was kept full, and the food tasted great! We will visit again!
Bit retro, good food and good service. Worth the wait to get in
LOVE NELLIE's. - Great Food, Great staff ! This is a fun hip spot to cure your hangover wows!!Got the chance to meet the owner! We loved her so much we brought her flowers! Wish we had one in edmonton
Right On The Line,. I actually really do like Nellie`s. Its a really fun place, and I don`t know how people could think the staff isn`t friendly, their almost too friendly. You can`t even finish your coffee before you get more. I`ve had the breakfast burriot, and it is fantasitc! So fresh and a little spicy, love it! The only other thing I`ve had there is the club sandwich and soup. The only thing bad about it is there was ham on it not turkey... kind of weird but whatever, it was still good. And the veggie soup was awesome. All in all its a nice place, but cleanliness is not on the priority list. It is kind of grubby.
Well I liked it. It was good ! ive been there a few times an enjoyed the food wasnt amazing ....but was good
I thought the food was good. The coffee is hurting .
I’ve ordered the perogies as I LOVE perogies, and it doesn’t have that layer of grease I don’t really like first thing in the morning. To my excitement when my plate came, my plate was piled high with scrambled eggs, toast, sausage, potatoes, and tucked away under the toast was the star of my breakfast — perfect perogies. They tasted great, and it wasn’t over cooked at all. I’m not sure if it’s homemade, but it sure c
