This place has been around a while, certainly a popular place, went there a couple of Fridays ago and it was packed, when I go to Chinese restaurants its always a good sign when there are a lot of Chinese customers frequenting it, it says something about the food, the decor in this place is quite poor, and the scummy half empty fish tank in the doorway is certainly not a great focal point, however the food is quite good the service was also very good and prompt, I was with my wife son and daughter, who are all fans of the food, we hand salt and pepper prawns, pork chops, Peking duck and fried rice, it was all good and service was also really good.
Tucked away in a mini strip mall in Beddington, Shanghai Classic is a gem. It's a Chinese restaurant and a very good one at that. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent. I love the Singapore fried rice noodles. It is also one of the few Chinese restaurants outside of Chinatown that serves congee. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Shanghai Classic is your usual neighborhood Chinese restaurant where the customers are regulars and known by the staff. I would actually say the service is above average if you compare it with other Chinese restaurants - they are polite, they ensure your table is set and clean and they always fulfill your requests (ie. return with hot sauce). In regards to the decor, it would be standard for a Chinese restaurant - the restaurant feels and appears clean, it may not be modern but I think you're there for the food, aren't you?
We ordered the small Hong Kong style congee $8.95 and Special Fried Noodles $12.95 (comes with vegetables, and beef) and it was perfect for 2 people. Food has always been consistent (although I would not recommend the dumplings from prior experience as they are too doughy).
