pretty good food and this place is very popular. we came here a lot and you will never get disappointed. Our friend's friend lives in downtown area and bought us to here. love this place
Good food here. Large variety of chinese food, mostly HK style though. Always very busy, but usually quick service and don't have to wait too long for a seat. Great place for quick bite or casual hangout.
Lots of Hong Kong cuisine to choose from. I always go with the dinner special but they keep changing it. The dinner special comes with a free hot drink (extra $1 for cold), choice of soup, and toast for around $15. I would recommend all dinner specials other than the seafood special.
If I come in on a day with the seafood dinner special, I get the baked pork rice instead which never disappoints.
Never a disappointment when you come to Calgary court! Service is extremely fast and friendly compared to a lot of other asian restaurants. I don’t think I’ve ever been unsatisfied with my meal here. They recently added a few things to their menu and I’m so excited about the build your own noodles!!! Such a great deal in my opinion.
My good friend introduced this place to me. And she influenced me to order CONGEE and I ask her I want fried tofu as accompaniment. The congee is serve super hot, since the pot itself is use to cook it. And the Tofu is pretty neat with onions and chopped chili on top, wow, my favorite. And the best thing that my friend endorsed to me is the chili garlic sauce of the restaurant. Its not spicy to be honest. It has a sweet taste, I'm not sure if its because of the tiny shrimp in it or they put brown sugar? that I don't know. Then the next time I went by myself, I ordered their combo meal that comes with rice, a choice of meat, soup of the day and choice of drink for a reasonable price.
They seem to serve western inspired Chinese dishes.
Love their Portuguese chicken. Only place I have been to that serves Chinese food of this kind.
Always busy and good food. Service is alright.
Located in the heart of Chinatown you'll find Calgary Court. Their menu is very extensive. They offer almost 50 different items ranging from your normal typical western foods (sandwiches, mushroom soup, spaghetti, etc) with a Chinese twist to your regular Chinese items. My selection last night was the seafood chow mein (came out sizzling hot with some serious crunch), and the sweet and sour beef (almost a tangy bbq sauce with a distinct candy flavor - it tasted like dessert). Overall I was impressed by the food, but the sweet and sour beef was a bit rubbery to chew like bubblegum. I would recommend you giving this place a try.
Hainan chicken was very tasty, if they use authentic Hainan chicken dipping sauce would be even better. Pho was ok. Gonna try their noodle wonton next time.
I come here quite frequently, mostly because I'm always by chinatown during lunch time and because it's one of the few places open at night. I think the food is really good, specifically the salt and pepper squid, chef's special congee and Cantonese fried egg noodles with assorted meat & vegetables. It gets loud no matter what time I go and it's always busy, doesn't bother me as much but just a heads up.
This is a Hong Kong style cafe in Chinatown which get super busy at lunch time. You need to get here before 1130 to get a table. You need to wave down the waitress to place your order because they are busy bring out orders, clearing tables and seating ppl. Food comes out fairly fast and they have lunch combo that comes with soup, entree and drink for $12. Pretty good deal. When you are done you go up to pay. Typical cafe style food, I like the baked spaghetti and baked Portuguese pork chop rice.
This restaurant has been open for quite sometime, if you are there to get good value for your chinese lunch food this is the place to be. I had the spicy pepper steak on rice and the sauce goes great with the rice. It brings it extra flavours! Portions are extra large. Just don't mind the service.
I come here a lot with my boyfriend late at night when many other restaurants are closed. The food always come out hot and tastes very good. The service isn't slow but it's not the fastest either. The ladies speak more Chinese but it won't be a problem if you don't.
Service isn't the best if you don't speak Chinese. But if you just want some good food, definitely consider this! I'm sorry I don't remeber the names of these dishes but both were on the dinner special menu. Very flavourful and comforting after a long day. Downside was that my boyfriend was told his noodles included egg but when it arrived it wasn't there. Another waitress said it actually wasn't included. In the end they made him the egg on the house for the confusion. Great place for some classic HK cafe food, and it's open late!
I've only been to Calgary court restaurant for breakfast which I found very reasonable with huge portions. It was greasy yet exactly what I needed after a night of heavy drinking. The congee is good. I love being after offered Milk Tea with my meal.
Love this place. My favorite dish of all time is the Chicken Curry with rice and a lemon iced tea. Chinese donuts are delicious and so is every other dish here. I have been coming here for over 10 years and nothing has ever disappointed me. The congee is tasty too and they can accommodate large or small groups. Szechuan noodles are tasty too!
Why do I crave this food so often? The Portuguese cheese rice dish is to die for. We always get the home made noodles as well. So flavourful, this place is always busy but food comes out quickly. The real deal, and not your regular Chinese food at every strip mall.
I've been coming to Calgary Court since I was a kid and though the decor has changed, the food certainly hasn't - except for the smaller portion size and increased prices, but hey, c'est la vie. You can always count on CC for a good, hot meal for a decent price. I have always loved their won ton noodle soup, and their assorted beef tripe soup (yup, innards). Their milk tea is awesome too. I've tried a lot of things over the years and I don't think I've been disappointed once. Their breakfast is good too. I love the good ol macaroni and ham soup.
Whenever I'm craving congee for breakfast I come to Calgary court because they open nice and early and they have a great HK style breakfast menu!
Came here for noodles and some chinese donuts! Noodles were very wells seasoned and tasty. The Singapore noodles were a little too spicy for my taste, but were good nonetheless (I actually found them tastier the next day!) The Gai Lan was very fresh and the garlic sauce was on point. Will come back!
Love this place!i have been so many time now and it's been delicious everytime.why not 5 point because the service isn't great.but the food doesn't take too long.
I've spent a lot of time in this place since I moved to Calgary -- the decor -- and the food hasn't changed since 1998. Which isn't a bad thing. This isn't a Chinese restaurant per se, it's a Hong Kong style snack house. Lots of noodle and baked/fried rice dishes. The congee is good. It's always packed late, which is fun. Ironically breakfast is the best. This is a great place to grab a quick bite in the morning if you work in the area. Free tea lol, a plus.
I really look forward to coming back here. Needed soup in the morning and came across this delicious option. I received hot tea as soon as I sat down. I then ordered the Satay beef vermicelli soup. For $7 I received another warm tea, a piece of garlic toast, and the healthy portion of soup. Very flavourful and I kept seeing other delicious and interesting dishes coming out of the kitchen.
I like to come here with my family for breakfast. Good breakfast sets, great price. Sets include choice of drink. I get the chicken breakfast with black pepper sauce which is delicious.
Calgary Court has been in Calgary for a lonngg time, and used to be a lot less inviting as far as the decor goes. I believe they renovated shortly after the floods, and now sports a shiny, more modern interior. As an HK style cafe, Calgary Court is one of the best in Calgary. Large portions, affordable prices, and huge variety makes this one of the go-to places for a lazy meal. Service isn't great, but that's mostly okay in this case. We sit down, we order, and we get our food within a decent timeframe - that's all I really care about when dining at a place like this. With tea-time and daily specials, combined with some of the longest opening hours for a restaurant, Calgary Court makes it hard not to come back, even if only for its convenience. Luckily, it's much more than that.
It's awesome how this place opens late at night, really good Hong Kong style cafe. Their hot milk tea is the best that I've tried. My most favorite would be the seafood baked rice though! So tasty and price is very cheap! I will definitely return! Recommended for sure! 😃
This place is always great for getting a variety of dishes for sharing. The prices are quite reasonable for their portions and though I feel the portions have decreased a little, they're still good enough for sharing amongst a few people. The speed of service is not bad either! I go fairly often and it never fails to provide a filling and yummy meal!
Went down on the weekend and I have loved this place for 15+ years, however the pork chop on rice with tomato has changed over the years, and it was my favourite thing on the menu. I still love their soups and squid. Dumplings are always amazing.
A classic Hong Kong style cafe. They have the standard fare like your baked rice and stir fried noodles. Nothing amazing, but always a good meal and affordable to boot (especially during lunch time, meals under $10 including a drink). Plus, open late night as well. I'd recommend... everything on the menu? There are too many choices to go wrong.
This is a place where all the Asian in Calgary will go at one point of their life. There is pretty good Chinese food here. The price is cheap too. But be warned that you may get food poisoning here as it is not the cleanest place to eat.
I have to admit, I am a bit biased when it comes to Calgary Court. Having spent a lot of my childhood in Chinatown, this restaurant has always been a staple whether it comes to grabbing breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even late night eats. Their menu is definitely reflective of some Hong Kong cafes, and I find a guilty pleasure when indulging in their greasy eats. The baked rices/noodles are always a good choice, and the food usually comes quick. One piece of advice for new diners though, is not to expect typical service, as the servers here are more accustomed to the Hong Kong method of just coming to your table when called. So take a seat back and enjoy the busy atmosphere!
Calgary court is a good late night place for Hong Kong style café food. I usually go late at night on the weekends and even then sometimes there is a wait. Their baked rices are pretty good and I would recommend trying that. Service is decent and food doesn't take too long.
I love this place ! Delicious food , great price , fast service. It reminds me of being in Hong Kong. It's great for breakfast too ! And milk tea , sandwiches , and chicken congee with Yao tieu is my fav.
This has become my favorite HK style cafe in Calgary. The food is really good, the portions are huge and its inexpensive. I come here often for lunch and the service is pretty quick. That being said you have to flag down the waitresses if you want something and it can be tough to get their attention when it's busy. My go to items are the baked Portuguese chicken rice, beef flank noodle soup, assorted fried noodles. If you like spicy food remember to try their spicy oil.
I love the breakfast options here as well. The egg & spam sandwich is really good; the egg is creamy and fluffy, the bread is soft and the spam is flavorful. When I want something healthier I will get the ham sandwich instead of spam. The sandwiches come with a hot drink, and I usually get their delicious HK style milk tea. The other breakfast combos are tasty as well.
Great late night stop for Hong Kong style meals! Their service is what I call typical chinese service at restaurants in the sense that you have to call them over if you want something. its just how things are there. the food though... SOOOOO GOOD they lose points purely on service alone. the food has always been top notch
Definitely one of the best late night HK style restaurants in Calgary.
Food is good and affordable. Convenient location. So much variety, and the menu is in English! Service isn't the best, but not much should be expected from an Asian restaurant.
I always get the baked rice with pork and tomato sauce. Such a good go to when you have the late night munchies.
This is probably the best HK style Cafe in Calgary. The service is fast but the servers aren't entirely friendly. I noticed the sizes has decreased in the recent months though. But it won't deter me from coming! My go-to for Chinese Cafe food early and late night!
I come here pretty often for Sunday breakfast with my boyfriend. This is a place i think is really close to Hong Kong style. The food is good, and the service is fast. A good place if you need something in rush! The breakfast here is good, it is my first choice of chinese breakfast in town. And it is cheap too, u can spend only $5-8 to have a big portion of breakfast.
I come here quite often with my friends. One of our go to places is Calgary Court. Food is delicious and yummmmy. It looks quite nice after the renovation, especially the washroom. It was quite dingy before. If you're in Chinatown, check this restaurant out! :)
A Taste of Hong Kong
This place reminds me of Hong Kong street style cafe. All the dishes I've had here had been great. One of the few choices left in Chinatown for a quick bowl of Cantonese style wonton soup noodles. They serve an all shrimp meat wonton (no pork), five to a bowl with crunchy wonton noodles. The broth is also very flavourful (artisanal use of dried flounder and MSG). I also enjoy their tripe noodle soup. It's just offall!
Service is very efficient, but you need to speak up and not be shy. The noise level probably approaches 80dBs at the peak of lunch hour. If your order has not arrived after 15 minutes, then something is wrong and you should check with your waitress.
they got good chinese food here! nice place to just chill at night cause they open up late. decently priced as well! i would definitely come back here again.
This my go to place when I don't know what to eat. Perfect place to get good Chinese food at s cheap price. The environment is also very nice, perfect for big groups. Sometimes it's really crowded so you might need to wait a bit before getting a table. However, the service is really fast and the food is served in a very short amount of time. They have a great variety of dishes, from soups to desserts and drinks. If you want to try Chinese food without paying too much but still taste good, then this is the place.
As ex-residents of Hong Kong, we often crave things like Hot Milk Tea and Baked Spaghetti.
This spot is one of our favourites.
Our recommendations: 1) Sizzling Plate Dinners – your choice of chicken or pork cutlet on a sizzling plate served with rice or spaghetti, black pepper or tomato sauce, “Russian” soup (super delicious!), buttered toast, and hot milk tea.
One of the best restaurants in Chinatown! I love this place.Their menu is quite vast and varied. It is not available online though so you have to go in person to see just how many things they have on the menu! The service is not the most "polite" but it is efficient and effective nonetheless. I had the Chicken rice set and it tasted great! My bf had a of stir fry with with minced pork and eggplant over steamed rice. It came in a little cast iron pot and was delicious. We also had some fried pork cutlets and fries to start. The overall cost was ~ $35 without tip, which was very reasonable considering we were both full by the time we left! I cannot wait to go back and try more items on their menu!!!
Fantastic. Excellent food, very fast friendly service. Reasonable prices. Will absolutely return when in Calgary again. Great job!
2 thumbs up. Been to many Chinese restaurants in Calgary. Got our 5 dishes within 15 mins. Delicious and authentic Chinese food. Nicely renovated and good service (considering its an Asian restaurant). Would definitely go back.
Favourite place for Chinese Food in the city. I've been going to Calgary Court for 8 or so years, and I have to say this is my favourite Chinese Food restaurant in the city. I don't think that I've ever had a negative experience here, the food is always delicious, the servings are more than generous, and the price is very reasonable. As the other reviews say, the service isn't "bend over backwards for you", but I wouldn't say it is bad. I'm always promptly seated, my tea is never empty, and if I require further assistance I just wave someone over with my hand. I actually prefer this as I don't like to be constantly interrupted while eating. As for the food it is amazing! A dish is easily shared between 2-3 people and generally around $10. The food always tastes really "homestyle" to me and they have a daily set lunch and dinner menu generally with two different options to choose from. Lately I've been finding myself grabbing something to go from here on my way to work because I need to get my fix haha. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you are looking for some good delicious comfort food and don't want to spend a lot. The "Deep Fried Doughnut wrapped in Rice Crepe" is a must.
Hello! It was my first time to this restaurant and I would like to say it's pretty decent. I ordered a Baked Fried Rice with Boneless Chicken, Chopped Pork and Corn Sauce to finish it off. The meal turned out delicious but it was a big meal that I couldn't finish so I had to take it to go. I think it's best for two people to share for that meal. I was disappointed with the service though but overall everything went well. Definitely worth checking this place out!
Love this place. I love the baked rice, never went before it got renovated but the interior does look pretty modern and clean for a Chinese/Hong Kong dine in restaurant. The service is alright, nothing too special. Just wave your hand and someone will be at your table immediately. They're good at refilling your tea and apologizing if it's already empty, the servers are all generally pretty nice. Will always be coming back.
Consistently on par!. This is a great place for some asian quick eats. Most items in the menu is very similar (based on a few different sauces), but the food is consistent to the price. The noodles and rice is cooked exactly what you expect it to be, simple and tasty. They have very well priced lunch and dinner specials (Soup, entree, drink) 15 dollars. I would say this is one of the best places to get some Asian cuisine without spending too much. I do have to say the atmosphere is more hong kong small shops, so if your slow or indecisive, they will get mad.
Happy Happy!. So happy Calgary Court has reopened. Had a major baked pork chop in tomato going on...it was just as good as I remember however the portion maybe a little smaller than I remember. Looks fantastic, love the - Deep Fried Long Donut wrapped in Rice Roll... gah I had missed it so much we had to order 2 order between 5 of us. lol.
Very happy that Calgary Court has reopened. Cleaner and nicer seating after flood repairs. Food is still excellent the baked pork chop on rice is amazing
Best Chinese Diner Around. I've been here a few times and I can honestly say that this restaurant probably has the best Chinese diner food in the city. You get a lot of value for your dollar and the portions are pretty big. There are also a large variety of dishes and there are a lot of mix and match combinations! Their specialty is the baked rice or spaghetti. Definitely go for those if you're new to that place!
The only problem is the service. Obviously, you're not going to get the same service as you would with other restaurants. If you need something, put up your hand so that the waiters can identify that you need something. And when you do want something from the waiters, make sure to communicate it effectively.
Good Place. Been coming here for about 5 years. The portions were a lot bigger before and they recently got a lot smaller for some reason. Food is still great though and the servers are usually pretty fast. Ordered the baked rice as I usually do and it was delicious. Wish the portions were bigger though used to be able to get full and bring some home. Now I can't even get full off one of the dishes.
The food was incredibly delicious! I just LOVE this restaurant!
VERY Good food. The Mixed Hot plate was FANTASTIC it came a bundle with a nice little soup, toast, drink and even ice cream :). Everything was cooked just right to perfection. Even the fries tasted amazing it was like having a potato chip turned into a tiny log. I definitely want to go here next time. Also the staff was very nice even though you would have to get their attention anyway Totally worth the $17 bucks.
Best baked dishes. The baked rice/spaghetti dishes are very unique and delicious. Oven baked pork chop with cheese on rice is decadent. The HK style milk tea at this place is the best around town. The list of good dishes does not end here and they have a huge menu. Go back often and never get bored. Price is really good for what you get too! Service is bad especially during peak hours. Focus on the delicious food and be patient with the service.
Not as good as Sun's BBQ but who cares. This place is still pretty damn good! I went here because my friend raved about their baked pork chops on rice w/ cheese/tomato sauce (zhu pa fan). At first, I was like, meh, but then bite after bite, especially the subsequent two leftover meals I had (yes the portion was that gigantic), I got more and more addicted to it. My friend says there's crack in there (jokingly) but I think there's just a good blend of tomato sauce and cheese and pork chop grease and tenderness to make it so perfect.
The milk tea was good too, as expected of Calgary... The deep fried squid had a bit too much batter on it but I ate it anyways. I loved the long donut rice roll because it was so crispy and delicate and yummy. This is a pretty good HK style cafe, but it still can't top my favorite Sun's BBQ restaurant... I'm so biased :(
Amazing. I love this place so much! Almost all of their dishes are great, and delicious. Some of the servers are a little rude, but nothing that rubs you the wrong way. My favourite dishes are probably the baked pork on rice, or the curry seafood with rice. The baked pork is probably the best one I've had in all of Calgary, and I highly recommend it to anyone that goes here.
I must say the food here was quite tasty. I was very happy with everything I ate, and the prices were reasonable as well. The entire restaurant (with the exception of the disgusting bathrooms) was extremely clean, which was a nice surprise in Chinatown.
I was disappointed, however, with the service I received. I had been seated for over ten minutes without receiving any acknowledgement of my presence from a waiter. I then waved down a waitress, who acted as if I was interrupting her, and she came back 5 minutes later to take my order. Only after that did a waiter bring tea, which was not refilled for the entire meal.
The food came in a reasonable amount of time, but the waitress scowled when I asked for another bowl since my table was given 5 bowls for 6 people.
We ate our entire meal while waiting for one of the dishes, which didn't come until after we were finished the rest of our meal.
Overall, I was disappointed with the service but happy with the food that I did receive.
Fantastic. I continue to be blown away by the Calgary chinese food. It certainly helps having some serious local knowledge in the lunch group. Here the flank steak and greens, salt and pepper squid, chow fun noodles and bean sprouts were all amazing. The service was consistent with an asian restruant but when the food is this good the reality is that people are here for the food, not the service.
Quick, Decent Price. Good food, quick service. Not super friendly, just super busy. ;) I've read over their menu a couple of times but decided to go with a couple of the pics here. 1) Shrimp won ton soup 2) chinese deep fried dough in rice crepe with peanut sauce
That leaves; fried pig intestine & green grass jelly drink
I have been in here on the weekend too & it gets packed.
The only thing really bad about this place is the MSG in everything, it will make you ill.
Nice surprise! I would recommend going there. Any item I'm sure will be good. The food was spectacular!!! Will come again!
My favorite spot for breakfast. I would make sure to come here at least once whenever I visit Calgary. Their breakfast combos are really cheap. My favorite is their congee combo with fried noodles and milk tea. Located in chinatown, parking could be difficult. I like the fact that it is child friendly, they have high chairs, plastic bowl for your little one, and baby change station in the washroom.
A bit disappointed. 1st Time: Great Experience!
2nd Time: Horrible Experience!
3rd Time: Went into the restaurant, no white people!! *Good Sign* Much better experience than the lastt!
Try the bevs and the veggies, too.. This place is a gem and we've loved everything we've tried here, especially the baked spaghetti with boneless satay chicken and the Indonesian fried rice, but I have to also extol two things. One of the beverages. Yesterday I got the one called Korean style grapefruit tea (iced- you can get it hot too) and partner got the lychee tea (also iced) and both were just incredible- the lychee had a TON of fruit at the bottom; the grapefruit a ton of lightly candied grapefruit peel. Just delicious. We also had a side of gai lan in oyster sauce. Perfectly cooked and not heavy-handed on the oyster sauce- I've never had better. Last time we had the (seasonal) water spinach with preserved tofu sauce, which just blew us away but which wasn't available yesterday. Anyway, you might not expect that a place that does just huge portions of stick-to-your-ribs comfort food would also treat veggies this well, but it does, so try them too.
Everyone loves it. This is like the most favourite restaurant for Indonesian community in Calgary. We always order the baked rice chicken with satay sauce and Chinese doughnut wrap with rice 'something' in peanut sauce. A must order menu for us..hohohoho
Yummy. I like the food, the fast service, the variety of food. The menu is diverse and their spin on western dishes especially the sphegetti is enjoyable.
Great Variety. This is a great Hong Kong style café that offers a quick meal at a reasonable price. If you have no idea how a Hong Kong style café might be like, picture an Asian Denny's. It's a loud and bustling venue with a lot of in and out traffic. If you like variety, here is where you will find an extensive menu of over 300 menu items. They have specials on a daily basis which consists of an entree, soup, rice or spaghetti, garlic toast and a drink. All this for no more than $15, tax and tip included. The service is fast and the food is worth every penny. When people ask for a good Chinese restaurant recommendation, I often reply with four questions "How traditional?", "How adventurous?" , "Who are you going with?" and "How much are you looking to spend?" This isn't the place to take your first date, but it offers good food that comes out quick and it is easy on the wallet. It's not hard to find a dish that is captivating for each person in the party. There is a wide range of selection from Sweet & Sour Pork with Rice to Deep Fried Pig's Intestine, if neither sounds appealing maybe just settle for a Ham & Egg Sandwich. Give this place a try, you wont regret it!
Mmm congee. Congee is the best comfort food...honestly nothing is better on a cold day than salted pork and century egg congee ;) I'm obsessed and I think Calgary Court has the best congee in Calgary. For the price of a venti caramel machiatto you get a super filling, boiling hot, pot of amazingness. And don't forget to load it up with sprinklings of white pepper. The service is fast and rapid-fire, totally Hong Kong style.
Great variety,my favorite is the Hong Kong style breakfasts!
