You had me at ... everything. Their wine list is off the charts, with wine even on tap! The food is to die for (short rib penne... omg). The staff treats you like family, and the GM and managers deserve awards for their level of care. Blerim, the gm, now this guy REALLY cares. He remembers details and is super genuine. This is the "Cheers" of 2017 where everyone knows your name, and you can't help but want to come back ALL THE TIME!
Good food, very good service; nice ambiance and decoration, sympatic, attendant, courteous and helpful staff; highly recommend their Steak Burger. We had our marriage anniversary meal there as both my wife and I like it and go there as often as we can.
What a STELLAR performance this place puts on. Pretty sure Merchants is my new place to wine n dine.
I really like the menu in this place! Definitely visiting again!
Love the fish tacos!!! The staff are super friendly too.
Best place to be.Great food and staff.Neat music.every night is a great one.
Great food, great service, friendly atmosphere!
Amazing food, great ambiance and awesome service! A true neighborhood gem! Will be back!
Great food, and very attentive staff. Really enjoying the atmosphere. Congrats to everyone involved with the opening!
Awesome food and a great atmosphere. Just what Marda Loop needed ♡
The happy hour pizza is a great choice.. The variety of pasta's are amazing, The short rib penne and the Linquine with meatballs, I would have again in a heartbeat. My friend had the half caesar and the salmon side. She raved about them.
Great happy hour specials. The chicken scewers are great. The steak fantastic
Staff are great. Go, you will not be disappointed.
I always enjoy Merchants when we drop in for a bite. I've been here several times, and everything we've tried on the menu has been somewhere between good and excellent. My personal favorite is the fish and chips. Their take is modern, light and very tasty. Parking: 3/5. Service: 4/5. Presentation: 4/5. Ambience: 4/5. Portion Size: 4/5 Flavors: 4/5. Value: 5/5
Was here for dinner a few times and it is quite lively with good drinks and daily specials. Food is average with a good variety of salads, pastas, pizzas and appis to choose from. Not a bad place to go to after work to wind down.
I enjoyed this place. The food is good. I enjoyed the tuna tartar the most. The patio is lovely and comfortable and quite busy. They have good specials check the website. The service could use improvement but for the most part it’s ok, just ask for what you need. The 3 times I’ve been here the food came out pretty quickly considering the restaurant was full. I will go back especially a Saturday when a big glass of wine is on for the small glass price. ;)
I've been meaning to go here for a while, and I'm glad we did. I liked just about everything about Merchants. The patio looked very inviting. If it wasn't so hot, we would definitely have chosen to eat there, but we opted for some cooler air inside. You have your choice of traditional bench booths, half-moon booths, tables and bar-side. The restaurant looked comfortable and well appointed while not coming across as stuffy. Our service was great with the servers being very patient with our indecision while choosing food and drinks, checks on our table, prompt attention, and goodbyes from the staff when we left. Everything was done right, and done well with the exception that the mains could have been delayed another 10 minutes for us to complete our appetizers. A minor flaw, and our server apologized for the timing. We had the truffle chips and lettuce wraps for appetizers. Both were good. For mains, the fish and chips and two different pasta dishes fit the bill and everyone seemed to enjoy them. It would be helpful to have some lighter entries on the menu for the hot days of summer, but in that regard I have no one to blame but myself for selecting the tasty but heavy (for a hot summer day) Short Rib Penne.
We all walked away pleased.
Very surprised! For a pub, this place is very nice. Menu is a little all over the place, but that said, the food is terrific. Pleasant staff have always gone out of their way to show they care.
Atmosphere was great.
Service was efficent and friendly.
Food was real good.
We ordered a large Ceasar salad, hot wings, the meatballs and lettuce wraps. All were great. I especially liked the Ceasar salad. Enough dressing. Real bacon. Huge portion. 2 meatballs. My friend enjoyed those! The goat cheese was a good touch.
The lettuce wraps were ok. The lettuce felt a little warm and real thin, but we ate it. Overall we were happy and left satisfied.
As a family of 4 (2 small kids) but always try to go out, were very happy merchants is in the area. The serving staff cater very well to the kids, and they do a great job otherwise. Food wise, it's solid. Not outstanding, but certainly respectable, and won't leave you disappointed. We often end up sharing among the family, with the Mac and Cheese being a staple. For a local pub, they do a solid job. Their daily specials are good, and $4 beer during happy hour is as good as you can find. On top of all that, their brunch for the area may be the best part. Good food, and kids get a free pancake meal that is the best they'll get anywhere for free. Very happy to have this place in the area. It's a weekly go-to for us, either in the morning, or late afternoon.
My husband and I had supper here last night on the patio. Service was fast and friendly. They were pretty busy and table turn over was efficient. The food was just ok. Nothing really stood out. We had Tuna tar-tar and the Tuna and potato gnocchi. I enjoyed the atmosphere and service. I would go back to try other menu items but it was slightly expensive for the quality of food.
Came here for our monthly girls dinner club. Service was great, the food was not as I remembered since the last time I was there a year ago. The tuna tartar was pretty bland, last time was way tastier that is why I ordered it this time. They have $10 pizzas on Sundays. My friend got the carbonara and said it was ok. I got the Baja chicken salad and it was pretty tasty.
Merchants is a casual fares restaurant in the heart of Marda Loop that offers traditional pub food. I ordered the mac and cheese, and found it to be more on the average side unfortunately. I thought that the sauce was a bit too runny and a bit heavy on the salt. The noodles themselves were reminiscent of Kraft pasta, and the fried onions were a little on the soggy side. I think that the dish might have been a different experience of it made use of breadcrumbs at the top and baked a little longer. I thought that the service was incredibly friendly and quick, and I might come back to try some of the other menu items.
I came in for a friends 50 birthday and was blown away but Paula! She treated all of us all so good. She was so helpful and attentive even though we all were all over the place. She truly handled things so so well!
Great atmosphere (very nice renos!!!). Good service. Didn't eat, but people at my table loved the burger. Will definitely come back again.
This place is a welcomed new addition to the area and a nice break from the run-of-the-mill chain-style resto-pubs that litter the Inner-Calgary dining landscape. It's a sensible idea: build a cool room, introduce an innovative menu, improve on service and deliver on the food. Everything I've tried here is delicious - but the mussels I have to say are the show-stopper. I'm told it's the Pernod they add over the white wine...and despite some reviews I've read on the place I don't consider the prices out of line. There's good value especially on one of the specials' nights. Get down here!
Wine on tap is a cool feature. Service was great on a Saturday night. Short rib was rich and satisfying. Oysters shucked properly and calamari light with nice citrus balance. A nice spot in marda loop complete with free parking.
Warm atmosphere and tasty food. It is more casual food than fine dining. Much better than the pub that used to here. Nice neighborhood addition to be able to walk to in ML.
Great place, we will be back and special an weekend for live muzik
Service is getting better! Oysters were alright (not as good as national or Rodney's). Wings were good but small portion for $13. Gnocchi pouting was nice and different. I appreciate the twists on food they have!
Will go back for the Caeser Salad!. I'm a sucker for a good caeser salad, and the one at Merchants is pretty great. With the rotisserie chicken added to the basic salad, it's a big portion of garlicky goodness.
Our server was great, no complaints there. I also like the gluten-free menu options. We'll be back!
Amazing and Delicious. The atmosphere and decor is fantastic. I've been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and each time the food was fantastic. The servers were friendly and the bartender Nick is a very funny individual. I have to recommend their calamari, tuna tartar, and meatballs. Loved it and will be back again.
Delightful discovery, what a fantastic addition to MardaLoop. We went to dinner here this last Monday, and I was really impressed! The menu offered unique items and then some classics - all cooked to perfection. A must try is the gnocchi poutine! Some of the best calamari that I have had as well.
Look forward to going back to try more of the menu.
The restaurant itself is trendy but cozy. Good feel, and a lot of good TVs for sports.
Recommend going, you will not be disappointed!!
So glad to have this new spot in my neighborhood!!!. Have been to Merchants twice now, and have shared several of the dishes with my friends, all of which were highly enjoyable. I am a major foodie and eat out often, so my standards are quite high. The burger was wicked, Tuna tartar fantastic, gnocchi poutine out of this world!!! I also tried the pulled chicken tostadas that were delish, and was very impressed by the calamari too. Overal, super happy with every dish. The ambiance is beautiful, cozy, fresh, & modern. The service was a tad off the first time, but the second time they nailed it. Night manager (Brice, I think) was knowledgeable, capable, and lovely to deal with. Will be back again and again to enjoy Merchants and will happily spread the word of this new neighborhood gem.
Darrelandpeggy. I must apologize for the confusion with the hostesses. We are definitely a restaurant but with a slightly louder more lively atmosphere. The empty tables were being re-set as by 7 pm we had a line up of 4 to 5 tables waiting at the bar. Please feel free to contact me anytime, Omar at 403 452 4001 or omar@merchantsyyc.com. I would like to meet you and ensure a great night.
Have a great day,
Omar

Leslie. I am very sorry for your parties experience. I did come by to check on service and was told everything was great. My night manager came by and talked to someone regarding the steak temperature. He apologized and gave a substantial discount on the entire bill for the slow service. Please feel free to call or email me anytime to discuss this further. I would be happy to have you back and ensure a quality experience.

Great place, nice atmosphere and fantastic food and service!!!!!. I went there the other night for dinner and drinks with a couple friends.
I found this place to have a great atmosphere. The service was awesome and it looked like everyone that was working was having a good time.
I'm happy to see that it's just not the usual pub food. It is a more upscale type of food with good quality ingredients.
One piece of advice would be to extend the wine list, however that being said the wine so far looks to be good.
Very trendy spot.
Fun and modern with great food and service!. This is the first place in Marda Loop that has the upscale setting that the neighbourhood has so desperately needed. We've tried a few things on the menu, and would definitely recommend the oysters, tuna tartar, gnocchi poutine and short ribs. The wines on tap were something new to us, but after trying them we were won over. I love the vibe here, and will definitely be back!
Very nice and sexy place to hang out in Marda Loop. The good portions are well priced and large. Don't expect a lot of hotties here most of the patrons and ladies are over 50. Otherwise it is good place to grab a drink and dinner. The lobster blt is to die for!!!
Merchants est. 2014 beer food and wine. Stopped in for lunch and was pleased with the overall service. Had the Meat-za pizza the "cheesy" name of this pizza didn't equate to an overly cheesy pizza, but the thin crispy crust was a nice surprise. The chorizo could have been a bit spicier but the pizza didn't disappoint. Like any new establishment this restaurant is still working out some kinks. Give it a few months and I can see this place taking off, good location, good food and I will have to go back to test the wine on tap.
