Good, but needs more flavour overall. Limited baking (read: no egg tarts), but congee options are plentiful & popular. Soup dumplings are decent. (4/5)
We are regulars here. It's no Michelin star restaurant but we find it is the best money for value/taste/service. Don't limit yourself to the beef& broccoli or ginger beef etc... they do loads of very delicious and more authentic Chinese food.
Great place for awesome authentic Chinese food. I've only been here once since it's out of my way far in the NW but if I'm ever in the area I will always keep it in mind for a visit. Can't comment on their Canadianised Chinese food menu since I'm sure there are better places for that.
Always our go to restaurant for Chinese food. The servers are friendly and the traditional Chinese food is very delicious. You can count on quality food and freshness. You can't go wrong here.
Went here for dim sum. Had to wait a few minutes at the door before a server came. The food was very good. Would come again for sure. Excellent salt and pepper squid.
Always go there for lunch with family on Saturday, never disappointed. Marinated whole chicken (Gwai Fay Kai) is always my fav dish. Great service
I usually come here for family dinners. Chinese food always has the best value in terms of big group dinners. You order your set dinners depending on the number of people you have. I always enjoy the different courses you get with these set dinners alittle bit of everything.
I like snow palace for their shanghai style food during weekend lunch. The pan fried wontons, congee, and crepe noodles are delicious.
They do get busy and sometimes i feel they are a little understaff, but i notice that in other chinese restaurants as well. Overall this is a great place for chinese food.

Quality's gone a bit downhill since their move, but I'll chalk that up to them getting their legs back. Try the Palace Style Chicken Gai Ding - it's pretty different than what you'll get at most other "western-style" Chinese places in Calgary, so it's worth grabbing with takeout.
If you can swing it, eat in and have some stuff from their Chinese menu.
This is a great restaurant that serves both western Chinese food and traditional. Prices are in line with most traditional restaurants but you have to know what to order. Order from the 2nd half of the menu. The 2nd half of the menu is not on the take out menu so be careful. They have great specials and deals but again on the special part of the menus. Will continue to come back here.
Delicious. We've been coming to snow palace for years. Service has always been fantastic. Food is well priced and generously portioned. For newbies, try the sweet and sou fish with a drizzle of mayo on top, combined with deep fried milk...I k ow, sounds weird...just try it. Also get the stirred fried green beans, its great! I do feel for those that don't read Chinese, as I've never ordered from the menu before...usually just the specials from their board on the wall. If you see something you like going to another table, just ask and they will serve it to you too:)
Review for food only - quite good, but some dishes were greasy. For Christmas (more specifically, a few days before), we gathered at a relatives place and instead of cooking up a dinner, it was decided that take out would be the easiest option.
Snow Palace was at the top of the list. Please note, this review is for the food only.
Quite abit of food was ordered :
fried noodles with shredded meat
fried rice
salt/pepper squid
sweet/sour pork, drizzled with condensed milk
beef with broccoli
beef cubes with eggplant
I'm sure if it wasn't take out, the food would've have tasted fresher. Nonetheless, I liked the salt/pepper squid. They were not shy on the heat factor, and I found it really enjoyable.
Beef/broccoli was a good dish, tender beef with al dente broccoli florets, with a nice sauce coating everything.
The fried noodles was heavenly, crispy, with just enough sauce/toppings to allow the noodles to soak it all up.
Sweet/sour pork was average though, sauce was more on the sweet side but it wasn't anything that I've not had before from other restaurants.
Beef cubes w/ egg plant was nicely cooked, but after finishing the dish the bottom of the aluminum pan had at least a mm of grease, not that appetizing.
I'd like to try Snow Palace in person to see what their service is like and to taste their food fresh off the stove. From what I ate of their take out, it was - overall - quite yummy.
Tiny treasure. My parents were visiting and they wanted to go here twice in one weekend. They raved about dinner and wanted to try the dim sum the following morning. We had a bit of a wait on Saturday night as the restaurant was full (so small and cozy) but that's always a good sign. We steered clear of the deepfrieds and ordered the seafood hot plate, gai lan with oyster sauce, and the steamed chicken. It didn't look like a lot at first but we had leftovers between the three of us! My mom commented that the gai lan was nice and crisp, the hot plate dish was flavorful and had plenty of seafood (happily surprised) and she said the steamed chicken was cooked perfectly, the best she has ever had. We liked the dim sum too although there wasn't a big selection. The service is a bit spotty with the servers forgetting to bring us chili or water when it was busy but they were all very sweet ladies and were always smiling. It's close to home so I would go back for sure!
Generous portions and full of flavour. Particularly enjoyed the Special Chop Suey and the Beef with Mixed Vegetables.
Well, we are like most people and we always grab our takeout menu and order a bunch of dishes that get delivered half an hour later and we chow down in our sweat pants while watching a movie. Which is great but I highly recommend you brush your hair and make your way to the restaurant. We have been ordering for years from here and decided to go in and eat. We were so impressed. Each dish that came out was so fresh and hot I couldn't believe it was the same place. They also have a traditional menu that if you are adventurous you will not be disappointed. Not sure if I will order out for Chinese food again. LOVE Snow Palace.
I like it. Bit pricy for some items but taste good!
Didn't know this place existed until recently. Service is good. took a while for food to come out but everything was hot and tasted great! Will definitely go back!
I love royal chicken and my friend highly recommended the royal chicken from snow palace so we decided to stop by for dinner on Friday night. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived and we ended up waiting 10 minutes for a table. We decided on the royal chicken, garlic snow pea leaf, black pepper beef short ribs on hot plate and deep fried salty egg yolk soft shell crab. The royal chicken was excellent and the chicken was very plump. The snow pea leaves were tender but I found the dish to be a bit cold. The beef short ribs were tender and highly flavorful. The deep fried egg yolk soft shell crab was amazing! It was so good I could've probably polished off the entire dish by myself. The bucket of rice that was brought to our table was stone cold - very disappointing. Unfortunately the service was very poor which is not atypical of Chinese restaurants but since we sat in a corner booth seat it was like we were completely forgotten about. Come for the food but not the service.
Late dinner. Last week, hubby and I were really busy and had to get take-out. Feeling like having Chinese, we decided to try Snow Palace again. We ordered # 14, 120 and the chicken & anchovie fried rice (which is not on the menu, but it's our fav). Everything was sooo amazing - fresh and piping hot! Hubby was especially happy.
Tasty food but very pricey.
Let It Snow!. Although the city is full of Chinese restaurants, it's exceptionally hard to find one that actually serves tasty, decent portioned, authentic servings that don't cost you a Krugerrand. Also, you don't have to speak special code to get the dishes you want. Snow Palace is a little pricey, and on occasion, they've messed up our take away orders, but as stated earlier, in a city bereft of quality and reliable Chinese take out, I'll take it.
Solid Chinese food. I haven't ate at this restaurant for a long time, and supposedly they changed ownership a while back (not sure on this, don't quote me on it) so wanting some Chinese food, my mom and I found ourselves here. We went just after 8:00pm so the restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Since there were only two of us and we didn't want to over order, we decided on half of a free range chicken, a sweet and sour crispy fish filet with deep fried milk nuggets and a pork stomach & tofu soup (still had leftovers for the next day!). The soup arrived first. While the idea of pork stomach may turn most people off, this soup was quite tasty with all the essence of the pork in it. That and they cleaned the pork stomach very well too, and trust me, that's not always a given! There was also some pickled cabbage of some sort in the soup which gave it a bit of a sweet kick. The chicken was next - I don't exactly know how it's prepared but whatever marinate or baste they used, it was one of the best I've ever had. Lastly the fish came - I love sweet and sour pork chop so this was a nice option. The fish was battered lightly, and it didn't turn soggy from the sauce (even when I reheated it in the oven the next day). The sweet and sour sauce wasn't just completely sweet - it had a good balance of both taste. The milk nuggets were good - pretty standard.
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with tonight's meal. It was a lot better than I expected and I will definitely return! Prices are a bit higher than other Chinese restaurants but the portions are not skimpy either!
Hidden Gem. Dinner at Snow Palace was excellent! We stayed with the "westernized" menu and weren't disappointed. The ginger beef and the salt and pepper squid were both amazing, right up there with the best we''ve ever had. Portions were generous, service was polite and attentive, and the prices were reasonable. The place we''ve driven by so many times is now our new favorite Chinese restaurant! Just north of Ricky's in Crowfoot, it's not easy to find, but well worth the effort!
Pretty good veggie food. Clean place, well ventilated, delicious food, waitresses were very nice and kind, fast service, plenty of parking. my family and friends' most preferred chinese vegetarian food in town.
Great food but plan to take a lot of it home as the portion sizes are huge. If you are daring enough try ordering 1 or 2 dishes off the traditional menu and you will not regret it. That's one of the great things about this place, you can choose the Westernized Chinese food or opt for the traditional. It's also in a decent NW location where there's very little fir choices when it comes to finding good Chinese food. The place is small so be prepared but trust me it will be worth it.
Food was tasty and good. My husband wasn't thrilled with the chow mein having a thin, crunchy noodle, but I found it was delicious. We played it safe with spring rolls, sweet & sour chicken, chicken chow mein and Ginger beef.
Great Value, Great Food. My family and I visit the Snow Palace 2-3 times per month. We have only ordered off the Chinese menu and its always ben fresh and fast. A good indication of how good the food is depends on how many Chinese people you see in the restaurant and you will find your fair share of Chinese eating here. Probably one of the best Chinese restaurants in the NW if not the best.
Beside Crowfoot Honda in a little strip mall. Must go and try out.
Ask for the "other" menu.... If you're looking for Chinese food that is more than just the usual take-away variety you need to try this place out.
I've been to Snow Palace a couple of times and the food is always fresh and delicious. If you want something more authentic you will need to read Chinese since the menu they give to regulars is not in english. I suggest asking them what they recommend and going with it. They may say you might not like it, but if your a foodie than just be firm and you'll get something really good.
The peking duck is great and as good as any I've had before, even in Hong Kong .
You don’t even need the green onion and ginger dipping sauce on the side, whereas I find almost everywhere else I need it for a flavor boost.
One of the specials offered that evening was a dish of orange peel scented garlic beef short ribs. The beef was extremely tender and falling off the bone while the garlic sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and a great citrus orange aroma.
I was happily satisfied and terribly stuffed after our last delicious dinner at Snow Palace...
