The food is authentic and delicious. It takes me back to Korea and I recommend the food here to everyone!
Loved the service and a very good tasted food!
Thank you
Superb food and good services
Great food, great service and fair price.
I love this place!! I've been going here for as long as I can remember. I've gotta admit, I like their weekend cook better than their weekday cook. The waiting time could be shorter, but it doesn't stop me from coming here. The same lady at the front has been here for SO long and she's always so sweet, sarcastic and blunt (in a good way). Probably my favourite korean resto in Calgary!
It's in a unique spot full of Korean businesses. We were 4 people and ordered the BBQ for 3 and bibimbap on the side. Everything is good and plenty of food. The typical starter side dishes that include kimchi were nice. The highlight was the seafood pancake that was delicious. Each table is a private booth that makes comfortable seating. The service was good as well and the wait time was not bad at all given it was Friday night.
Delicious and fresh, Korean Village Restaurant is definitely one of my favorite places for Korean food in the city. The prices are very reasonable, but don't come here expecting a quick meal -- there can be a wait for a table if you get there later in the evening, and the food can take a while to prepare depending on what you order.
The fried chicken entree comes wicked hot and very spicy!! The chicken was well cooked with a crispy outside, and the sauce was very good. It was definitely plenty of food for two people. I would highly recommend ordering rice and side dishes to go with it.
Their dumplings are also amazing. Filled with a mixture of pork and beef and then deep fried, the meat stays juicy and the dipping sauce is loaded with flavour.
Another favourite is the kimchi jjigae, which is a kimchi stew with onion, tofu, and sliced pork. Don't approach lightly, as this dish is wicked spicy. Beyond the heat, it's packed with flavor and is a perfect bowl for a cold winter day. Personally, I'll enjoy kimchi jjigae any day of the year!
The owner is very friendly and has a good sense of humor. I can't wait for my future trips so that I can try all the other dishes they have to offer. Stop in here for lunch or dinner between trips to Arirang Foods and Korean Bakery next door.
My go to for Korean. Their stonebowls are decent and service is always great.
The two things I dislike are the greasy seafood pancakes and the lack of circulation in the restaurant. Other than those I’d highly recommend Korean Village.
Always good here. The servers are a little hit and miss but it's ok they are friendly. The food has a clean and fresh taste to it and it's always nice to have complimentary tea to go with your meal. Favourites are the bibimbap and kkangpungi really good portion size and always satisfying!
This restaurant is well established in Calgary and it was busy on a Saturday night, people were waiting at the door. Food was good and don't expect any good service at a Chinese or Korean restaurants then you won't get fed up. Love their Korean pancake, nice and crispy on the edge. I could never stop with just one and always ended up with 4-5 slices in my belly...yum yum yum.
I love this place! The staff are very welcoming and friendly. The food quality is always consistent and at a reasonable price. The food is always fresh and I love that they have monthly (?) specials. I had a seafood dukbokki pot special that was on the menu for a limited time and absolutely adored it. I returned with my friends to try this dish out and they loved it as well. I also recommend their tofu stew and seafood bibibap. Absolutely adore this place!
Favorite korean restaurant in Calgary. Because the food is always prepared fresh, and is authentic. The prices are reasonable, and the service is great. There is a large selection of food on the menu as well, compared to some other Korean restaurants in the city.
Love coming here and I recommend this place to anyone that likes Korean cuisine!
Went here on a Monday night. It was still quite full although we didn't need to wait for a table. Atmosphere is like a comfy small corner with warm food. All I can say is that the food is extremely delicious. It has an authentic, homemade, flavor to it. Tteokbokki is my favorite and I must say the rice cakes here are extremely fresh. Price is a tad high but worth the quality of the food. Must try place for authentic Korean food in Calgary.
Usually come for the korean soup ( spicy pork neck and potato) and they never dissapoint. Really fair price for portion since the soup comes with rice and 4-5 different types of refillable banchan.
Excellent place to warm up on a chilly Calgary day.
Korean Village is a long-time restaurant that specializes in traditional Korean delicacies. The menu offers a wide selection, and the food is some of the most authentic Korean food in the city! My newest favourite is the kimchi bibimbap, a hot stone rice bowl mixed with egg, pork, and kimchi, mixing together to create a delicious savoury experience with every bite. I found the service to be quite quick and friendly as well. Definitely recommend going in larger groups to try more different menu items!
I have been to Korean Village quite a few times now in the past few years. Every time their food have delivered on taste. I was personally hoping for more generosity when it came to the kimchi and eggplant side dish. I had to go find a staff to ask for more side dish because no one came to check on my table. The only reason I'm leaving 1 out of 5 is because of service.
I really enjoyed the texture of the pollock. It was quite firm and chewy. The soup was heart warmingly delicious and spicy.
The pork entrails hot pot was out of this world. I savoured every last bite of it.
One of the great places to satisfy your Korean cravings, although the restaurant layout and atmosphere could use some work (the lighting is a tad too dark for me). So far, I've been here twice and the consistency of the food is a hit or miss.
I highly recommend their dolsot bibimbaps (especially squid, if your a fan) as it was filling, offers an adequate amount of veggies on top of the side dishes it comes with, well seasoned, spicy, and the best part of eating on a hot stone is the crunchy rice texture at the bottom.
I love their spicy fried chicken, my first visit was perfectly cooked (adequate amount of sauce, moist on the inside, very tasty). The second visit, it wasn't up to par, inadequate amount of sauce, some of the pieces are dry and overcooked. But it doesn't deter me from not coming back.
Their Gamjatang was bountiful on vegetables that you don't normally get in other korean restaurants (squash, bell peppers, enoki mushroom, and jalapenos).
Samgyeopsal was ok, but it lacked vegetables like onions, garlic, mushrooms, jalapeno peppers (we only got 2 small pieces, lol). For the price we paid for the lack of veggies, it was expensive.
Grilled mackerel came with miso soup and a bowl of rice. It was well cooked and seasoned, but if your really hungry then this dish may not be enough.
Overall experience was great, the service was slow on my second visit, but I just simply walked up to the waitresses to get their attention. A little tip, make sure you sit on the comfy lounge/booth seats as the single chair barely has any cushion.
Great Korean restaurant in Calgary. They are very busy all week so either make a reservation or expect to wait for 30+ minutes. Most of the food here is fairly consistent; not always though. Service can be very slow at times (expect to wait even more for your order to come out after the long wait for the table) but most servers there are very nice. I recommend most of the soups in their menu especially during winter times.
Great place to go and eat. Been here many times and they never cease to disappoint me. The good is great and the service is great at well. Sometimes though the wait is long but anywhere during a busy period is long.
Still love this place for Korean. The short ribs and hamburger meat are some of our faves. Their dumplings and the sauce with it, is very complimenting. Love their dessert soup- not quite sure how to describe it except it's like the syrup from the tofu fa (Chinese tofu dessert with sweet syrup). Sometimes the service is a hit and miss and the English still seems minimal but for the most part you can definitely tell, they try. Food quality is always the same. Yum!!
September 2015
My fave Korean restaurant in the city so far. Their original location was super small few years back and they bought over this location. They're always busy even on weeknights. There's private rooms for more intimate and personal dinners. Servers don't seem to speak much English but they do a great job! Every food on the menu is delicious and authentically Korean. The best is that they make everything fresh. Freshest side dishes too!
Honestly, I can tell it taste exactly the same as Authentic Korean food. I would suggest all of my Korean friends to dine in this place. So awesome.
Took us almost over half an hour to get seats, and over an hour for our order to come. This is a very busy place at night, so watch for that!!!
Food is def one of the higher quality korean places in Calgary. Prices are a bit higher, but I feel like it tastes more authentic. (Not that I'd know, I'm not korean.)
Staff here are fab too. Very typical humble Korean folk.
The have the best seafood pancake in Calgary! Perfectly crispy and the portion is large! And the dipping sauce was perfect to go with it. The only reason i didn't give it a perfect 5/5 was because the price...talk about expensive compared to other Korean restaurants in the city.
I love this place!! Our waiter was super nice and the food was really good!! I really love the cold noodles!! I will definitely go back when I crave for Korean food!!
I went here with a few friends, and the experience was great overall. Their food adheres to traditional tastes and it's quality is good. The price was reasonable and the service was fairly decent. They play KPOP in here which is also a nice touch for a Korean restaurant. My friend who I went with, is a native Korean and she agrees that the food here was excellent. It is expected from this place since it is literally in the Korean plaza in Calgary.
Comfort Korean food starts at Korean Village. Personally, every Korean restaurant in Calgary does present their own charm, but it is one of the oldest and with good reason too. Their sweet and sour pork is hearty and well prepared as well as their spicy pickled daikon has not lost it's consistency. The authenticity is it's selling point. All their soup broths are prepared well and doesn't lack on flavour.
Yummy food!. I was here during lunch hour on a weekend. Despite the restaurant being busy we were seated as soon as we walked in. Their menu is extensive and I had trouble deciding what to pick but eventually we got the spicy squid hot stone bibimbap and the "original" cold stone bibimbap. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! The squid dish arrived topped with raw onions (that cooked as I ate!) and the dish was just beautifully presented! The banchan (side dishes) were all delicious and well seasoned as well. The service left a little to be desired but I was too engrossed in my food to be affected by it.
Highly recommended for anyone wanting to try Korean food!
Really Good Korean Food. My Favourite Korean Place in Calgary. I like Wang-galbi, Ggan-poong-ki, and Kimchi-jji-gae the best. Side dishes are always fresh and tasty. Their food is usually consistent but sometimes they are not. Somedays I had ggan-poong-ki that was not cripsy. But most of the food on the menu is really good. Only things i did not like so much was the mandu-gook - it just taste like wonton soup and the cold buck noodles.
My Favourite Korean Restaurant. I am a Korean and I think Korean village provides the closest and true taste of how food actually taste in Korea.
I love how they have plenty side dishes (which is a necessity in Korea)
and I love how the price is reasonable over the quality of food!
I really recommend this place ^^
Satisfying night out. We came here on a Friday evening, about 6:30 pm for dinner (party of 5). The place was very busy, luckily we made reservations so our table was ready when we got there.
We were seated quickly with menus; while awaiting for the other people to arrive, we had a chance to peruse the menu. They could have asked if we wanted something to drink while we were waiting though.
Once our entire table assembled, we decided on the dinner for 4 - note : there was ample choices for the dinner combos, all preset but you choose either cooked or cook at table. We chose the cooked for ease and convenience. We also added a dish of fried glass noodles on top of.
Food service was on the slower side, but given that the place was full, that is understandable. First up was the korean condiments, dai kon (not shredded, it was a big chunk), kim chi, bean sprouts, and flat dried tofu (?).
I enjoyed most of the condiments except for the dai kon, it would have been better if it was shredded/julienned instead of a big piece. The kim chi had good heat to it, and plenty of suey choy.
Next was rice and short ribs. The rice had a funky burgundy colour, but don't let that fool you, it was pretty good (albeit sticky). The short ribs were delicious; most Korean places give you short ribs that are only mms thick, Korean Village features short ribs that are almost 3/4 cm thick ! On the other hand, the thickness does make eating a challenge (as the meat is tougher to chew). Nonetheless, good marinade throughout and very enjoyable.
The sweet and sour pork was up next, and were they ever good ! I enjoyed the crispiness of the batter, and the sauce was tangy with a hint of sweetness to it. Don't think chinese style sweet and sour, this is very unique on its own.
Rounding out was the hot spot (there are various to choose from, we decided on the seafood). Frankly, I could have done without the hotpot, it was cook at table but due to the fact that the soup base wasn't very hot to begin with, it took a very long time for the soup to boil up, and since the seafood/other ingredients were raw, the whole soup wound up being very fishy.
The star of the meal had to be the stir fried glass noodles. I could have ate 2 platefuls, they arrived hot, and I really enjoyed the smoky wok flavour emitting from the noodles. The plate was adorned with shredded pork and bits of veggies like carrots. Very good !
Service wise, it was ok, however instead of them taking the initiative to refill our water jug we had to flag a wait staff down and ask. Otherwise, it was pleasant.
Will be back !
Great dinner with my family!. Came with family of 5 adults, and we had amazing service from our servers - really friendly, patient, nice and with a smile! Food was really tasty, will be back soon!! Ate around 7pm on a Saturday, Dinning room was full but the food came out really fast - impressed and pleasantly surprised actually.
Hot stone bowl bimbimbap and Japche (clear potato noodles) are two of my favourite dishes! Great side appetizer dishes, and they were even nice enough to bring more when we requested extra kimchi and others. Left really happy and really full. :)
Satisfied my cravings. I am 100% Korean, and this restaurant satisfies my Korean food cravings. I have been to Korea multiple times, and I have found that some of their dishes are either not nearly as good as the homeland, or exactly as I remember it. I highly recommend the Tangsuyuk - the Korean version of sweet and sour pork. I have no idea how they make the sauce, or the pork so crispy to this day! There are so many dishes that I absolutely enjoy getting whenever I make a trip to this restaurant, such as their Jambong, Jajangmyun and Kamjatang. However I was very disappointed with their Sundubu jigae. If you are more of a carnivore, and willing to spend a little more, I highly recommend the L.A. kalbi option under the barbeque section. The marinade is so delicious, and with a bottle of beer or soju, it really hits the spot! If you need a Korean fixing, I recommend hitting up Korean Village. Otherwise, book yourself a flight to Korea!
Authentic Korean food. I'd been going to Korean Village for many years on 10th Ave and Centre street over several changes in ownership. It was sad when they closed, but I was happy to see they re-opened where Dae Jang Geum was (Royal Seoul before that, both OK, not great). I love the food here, not too sweet, and fairly spicy, the way I like it. The service is OK, not great (it never is at Korean restaurants for some reason), some of the staff are friendly and some really aren't, maybe it's a cultural thing.
Best Korean food in town. This place is very authentic. Everything is always very tasty and fresh. I have never tried the BBQ though ( trying to go vegetarian) so I can't say anything about the meat. I love their side dishes. The service is always quick. Dont wear very nice clothes because you will smell since the ventilation is very poor.
Good!. Food was decent, service was pretty bad because they were busy but I find most korean restaurants are like that, the bill was pretty chep too which i was surprised. +1 for coming back
So-So.. The first time I came here, I got great service. My server was very friendly. The second time I went there, I waited for 20 minutes to order my food. I had to cook my own bbq meat this time, which was surprising. The food has also gotten pricier. I don't think I'll be coming back here. I recommend going to Hankang, much better service.
Service okay, but food is really good and it's authentic Korean BBQ. Very delicious meat.
One of the best in Calgary. If good Korean food is what you are looking for, look no further. The food is phenomenal as you can tell by the aroma once you step foot into the entrance. Be sure to bring a change of clothes and leave your coat in the car as the smell of BBQ will get into your clothes. Have a refreshing Hite beer to complement your meal. Atmosphere is cozy and casual. Will be making regular visits to satisfy my Korean food cravings.
Korean Treat at the base of Calgary Tower. In the shadow of the Calgary Tower you'll find an amazing korean restaurant. I have been going to this restaurant since I was in elementary school, and without giving away my age that is a testament to how successful this family owned restaurant really is.
Korean village offers great sized portions in an intimate atmosphere. Though if you are looking for true bang for your buck, head over during lunch hours. You will be treated to prompt and efficient service, and food that can't miss (though I highly recommend the ribs).
The booths provide plenty of privacy and opportunities for getting caught up with friends and sharing numerous laughs. Or do you have a large party? Even in the tight quarters, Korean Village can accommodate additional seats as well.
Once you walk in the aroma of the food cooking at the tables and even in the kitchen will have your tummy grumbling for sure. Once you leave, you will think about the next time you should return.
I often drive home along 10th ave after I pick up J from work and we always hit this small Korean strip mall. I get my Kimchi there, I get my Korean buns there, and I get my Korean fried chicken fix there. But I'd never had gamjatang there so I had to check it out.

I was really craving some Korean food on Friday night, so we headed out to Dae Jang Geum, which I always eye when I pick up Korean or Japanese ingredients at the Arirang grocery store next door. Alas, we barely got past the front door. A nice young man sa
Finally found the best Korean restaurant in the city. Ordered the spicy squid bibimbap and was not disappointed at all. The seafood pancake was the best I had so far in the city. It is huge and has the perfect crunch. They also serve barley tea(which is hard to get by). Amazing food, amazing service. This was definitely worth it.
Had a nice lunch here. All dishes were tasty and the service was extremely attentive and friendly. They have many seats and can accommodate larger groups. Try the Seafood Pajeon!!
Can't wait to go back with a bigger group!
Had been there with a friend for lunch during a workday. The surroundings were very clean and the staff was attentive and helpful. For an individual having a small lunch, the options were a little limited. They did have bento boxes for takeaway but not for dine in. We ordered 2 different Bibimbap. The paper table mats felt warm and nice. We were served complimentary roasted rice tea and accompaniments (kimchi, radish, fishcake etc). As we were there during our lunch break, the order seemed to take a little longer to be ready but the food was sooooooo delicious that I'd gladly have waited longer. The portions were quite large. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The menu looks like it was designed for larger groups of people. I hope I get to try it very soon.

Coming from Toronto K-Town, and cooking Korean for years and having a Korean girlfriend, this is some authentic amazing food.
The servicu can be a bit slow, but it is worth because it is all made just for you and tastes amazing.
The sides are also really great! The price is well worth and if you've never had Korean food before I suggest coming here. We had this 1 hour before our flight back to Toronto and it warms and fills you up!!
Food is authentic and delicious. Service is great, seatings are comfortable and spacious. Portion is big though so be mindful when order cuz you will want to try everything!
