Great coffee, great wine and great people.
Trieste has the best coffee that you can get downtown, hands down. Their food is also great, and the people there truly care about each of their customers having a great experience.
I happened to notice Caffe Trieste yesterday as I was wondering around the third level of The Core Centre. I don't often go to the third level so it had escaped my notice until now. I was intrigued so I went back for lunch today.
Nice ambience for a cafe in a mall. It looks inviting with it's attractive red carpet and nice lighting. It's surprising, though, because it look pretty much like a take out coffee bar but when you've walked through it and turn to our left it had a fairly large area with tables. Nice and bright with more red in the theme and chandeliers.
I ordered a latte as it's my usual choice for coffee in a cafe like this. After perusing the menu, I also ordered a chicken salad. I had hoped to have a look at the menu before I went but there isn't one on the website right now. My server told me the website has just been re-done and the menu will be posted soon.
The latte was ready quickly but the salad took a bit of time which left me in a bit of quandary since I put my latte on a table but had to keep an eye on it as I wasn't sure how quickly tables might be cleared. I was told my name would be called for the salad but I'm not sure I would have heard around the corner. I hope they come around and look for you if you don't answer the call right away but if it was a really busy time, it might be a bit of a problem. I'll see on a return visit.
Anyway, I didn't mind waiting a bit for the salad because it was being made for me. I wasn't going to get soggy greens as happens when salads and pre-prepared. It was a lovely presentation and I thought I had tomatoes on the plate but when I tried it they turned out to be beets. A great surprise! The salad was primarily romaine but there were pea shoots as well. The chicken was tasty and juicy. The dressing was a slightly sweet vinaigrette which I asked about on my way out and was told there was some citrus included which would account for the sweetness. I really enjoyed it.
There are paninis on offer as well as croissants and desserts such as tiramisu. I look forward to stopping in one morning soon before work to try some of the croissants. The latte was great.
The entrance to this café looked very fancy, complete with a red carpet and chandeliers! Then you’re greeted with the front counter, friendly staff and their display of freshly baked goods. My almond latte is decent (albeit watery), but I shall try the food next time. The seating area open to the mall, but I did like the big window to the side, with a panoramic view of south downtown & 4th Street below. Overall, it’s a good café to visit, especially if you’re in The Core and want a place to chill and sit down for a while.
