LOVE this restaurant. It is excellent, honest, true food and very fairly priced! The people are wonderful individuals and the food pretty amazing!. We went to Plowshare on Valentine's Day - you know, the day when you normally are forced to buy a fixed price menu for $75-$100 per person? The had an amazing $40 per person special for three courses. Also wine was on special for $30 per bottle. CRAZY! Chef Michael Scarcelli (formerly Teatro's) makes very yummy comfort food. After a lovely bowl of hot olives and almonds, we chose only one of those fixed price meals, including 8 prawns with lardons or small bits of pork belly as an appetizer, the main course of pork chop (no bone though) and barley risotto with asparagus and nutella brownie with ice cream for dessert, plus a single entree of incredible bacon wrapped meatloaf. It was all excellent, good highly personable service and a ton of food. A great surprise. Highly recommend.
I am not sure what is better, the food, the people running the restaurant, or the fact that nothing in on the dinner menu is over $20. I was lucky enough to go with a big group of people so I was able to try many things. Favorites were the brussel sprouts, the salmon appetizer, braised shortrib (the barley is to die for), the bacon-wrapped meatloaf (is my great granmother back there cooking in the kitchen?), or the mouthwatering chicken. Unpretentious and delicious. My kind of place.
We have made this place our go to restaurant since it opened. On our way to Arts Common or some other event we always stop in for a meal.
The quality of the food is outstanding and the menu is varied and interesting.
The staff are welcoming and treat us like old friends. They sure know their wines and spirits and beer and of course they know the menu and specials.
I have had business meetings at the trestle table and Valentine's dinner in a booth. Each time my meal is incredible.
Great place! wonderful service! I recommend this place for anyone who wants a filling meal for an awesome price
Excellent! Enjoyed a fabulous meal at Plowshare on Saturday night. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf and my only complaint is that the portion was too big. I will definitely be coming back.
My husband and I stumbled across Plowshare while visiting Calgary, and we loved it. The atmosphere is cozy - a throwback and modern all at the same time, with fresh twists on comfort food. The grilled cheese came on the softest, freshest sourdough bread, with a delicious homemade tomato soup; the meatloaf was very flavourful and hearty! Get the dessert - you will not be disappointed Our server was friendly and welcoming, and we truly enjoyed our meal. Thank you, Plowshare!
This has got to be the best restraint I have eaten in a long time. Beautiful decor, very friendly staff and awesome food.
I must say top quality diner food, big flavours. I am almost tempted to call it a full restaurant rather than a diner because of it, but not many restaurants serve Eggs Benedict like this one does.
Delicious tomato soup. The grilled cheese was almost too crusty, but equally delicious and the soup with the sandwich together was perfect. It made the tough crust issue a moot point.
A cool -20+ outside but found the coziest new place in calgary to have dinner tonight. Delicious meal and a wonderful atmosphere. I felt like I was in a ski chalet chilling after a hard day of skiing. Thumbs up!!
I love a great ceasar and this one does not disappoint! We had duck n waffles and the farmers breakfast, all very tasty. We will be back for sure!!
First of all, I’m not a vegetarian. But I did thoroughly enjoy the vegetarian chili. Perfectly spiced with a delicious assortment of “meaty” vegetables. The server Heather complemented the dining experience with her knowledge as well as her quick witted humor. As Arnold once said, “I’LL BE BACK!”
Great local food. Good variety for lunch. Very good soup and grilled cheese, lots of breakfast options at lunch. Ingredients locally sourced. Good place to go for lunch.
Time for a return visit, missing the meatloaf
Dave and his crew run an amazing restaurant. I got there just as a lot of folks were leaving to go to the theater. Before I was served the place was full again. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with herbed mashed potatoes and a beer inspired gravy. 100% on point. Could not have been any better, the flavours, the texture, all on point. GO you will not be disappointed, I cannot wait to go back and try a few other things.
I honestly don't understand the negativity here - I was suitably impressed when I visited here a while back.
As I understand it, the place is relatively new having recently moved into a space vacated by another long time establishment.
It's small and a little on the eclectic side. Lots of wood and a little on the darker side but comfortable enough.
There was one guy looking after all the patrons the night we attended - he was friendly and helpful and the service was good.
The food was excellent - both fish and beef dishes were well prepared and presented, fresh and hot. Excellent flavour on both the protein and veggies.
Coupled with a nice craft beer selection I was very happy with the food and service. It's a little pricier but it is downtown Calgary and I've no complaints on the value proposition. I'd come back here for sure.
The Farmer's Breakfast was great. Good coffee too. The other menu items I saw coming out from the kitchen looked great and will bring me back to try them.
Excellent food and staff. Best pancakes in town! Had dinner Friday and breakfast Saturday. Dave the owner is friendly and he food was too notch
Food is fantastic. On par with everything in the area including 17th Ave. Prices are very reasonable, almost cheap. Champagne on a beer budget. Also, this app sucks. I'm now writing to comply with their 140 character minimum.
So good! Delicious home cooking, really high quality ingredients! Plus you can have breakfast for dinner, with delicious pancakes
The owner is super friendly.
Also try to grilled cheese and tomato soup or the Brussels sprouts.
Burger was phenomenal, and the fries were cooked perfectly – crispy buttery outside, fluffy inside. The cocktail made for a refreshing accompaniment. Our waitress was funny and attentive; great service. Would love to come back with my family next time I'm in town!
Very friendly staff, the owner sat with me and had a nice chat. They were about to close but whipped up a modified skillet and stayed open for me. I forgot my wallet, and ended up getting Google pay to work but the owner was about to say forget about it and buy me brunch. Very nice decorative setting, cozy too. Oh, the skillet was delicious.
Delicious food, good prices, friendly service! Went for lunch with my coworkers and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Will come back again to try more of the menu.
Loved the food, the cocktails, and the vibe. And Dave and his team obviously enjoy and take pride in their work. It's more than just a job for them. If we lived in the city, we'd be regulars
Just another day exploring before the rabble. Wondered in and asked if seating was available for 1. I was set up with water and coffee promptly.
This understaffed duo, On a busy friday were just about above the whelmed line.
And even though, the food was amazing. and the coffee was better then some other stuff served around the corner.
They have two vegans working in the kitchen!! Heyyyoo
They did a delicious custom job on their Mushroom Burger for me! They're even working on a mystery food item for me right now!
Awesome staff! Thanks again
We had a delicious dinner here. Our waitress was an absolute gem, the beer list features many beers I've never seen elsewhere, and the food was really tasty (and well priced!). We devoured a plate of their Brussels sprouts and the Nutella brownie I had for dessert was oh-so-good. The decor is great, and I loved how the volume of the place made for easy conversation—no yelling at your table mates to be heard over loud music. Awesome!
