Review Wainwright Hotel - Calgary

Waited quite long for the meal. Meals came old not very warm. Taste was good and price was reasonable.

My family enjoyed the entire park very much, but this place pretty much ruined our experience today. When we were at the restaurant, we were seated at the very front table right by the entrance. We asked for another table but were immediately refused by the hostess (wouldn’t name her here) saying that there were no other tables available. But there were numbers of empty tables and other people came in (we knew they didn’t have reservations since we could hear the conversation being right by the entrance) were seated at the tables inside. I also noticed that a family who sat near us asked to be moved to another table and they were moved to the desired table right away. Umm, didn't she just tell us that there were no tables available?? So, I asked my server very politely if she could move us to a different table. She said she would check with the hostess, then she came back and said that we would have to wait for 20-30mins if we wanted to be seated at a different table. I was a bit confused because there were NUMBERS of empty tables and people were being seated as they walked in, but we couldn’t be moved. Our server, then, talked to another server who could eventually help us move to another table. Not a pleasant experience. During our stay, we couldn’t help noticing that people were just being seated where they desired and NOT ONE guest was seated at the table we were initially seated at. I am not sure what it was about. I really don’t like taking this type of unpleasant experience personally but also couldn’t help noticing that we were the only non-Caucasian people there and were the only people seated at the table right by the entrance. Maybe it was just a coincidence. Well, that had me thinking back when we first walked in, the hostess didn’t greet us with a smile like she did with other guests. Additionally, as my server was trying to resolve the seating situation, the hostess didn’t seem to want to be involved in person as she passed by us several times but showed no eye contact or anything at all. We felt that we weren’t welcomed there. Well, for the food, my soup was ruined when I mixed in the crushed cracker served with the soup, because the cracker was STALE. My caesar salad barely had any dressing on it, I couldn’t finish it. My sister had fish ‘n chips, she said it was good. To be fair, our server did come and asked how the food was. I told her nothing about my food because I was already exhausted with the table issue and didn’t want to complain. I really think the restaurant has good potential for being such a beautiful place. But my family will never return knowing that we won’t be welcomed like other guests who the hostess prefers to see. Other staff members seemed professional and friendly.

Good food, good service and great ambiance. I think it’s cool to enjoy a great meal in a historic hotel in Heritage Park. The food was delicious. No one should expect a gourmet meal but for the experience being in the park and the prices are reasonable it was good. The restaurant is clean and well lit as well as the washroom.

The price for the brunch is reasonable, but the food lacks quality. A fly was flying around our table, not a good sign. The food was fatty and sweety, the kind that makes you feel full soon. Everything had just a regular taste, nothing delicious.

Gourmet and ghouls. Did not scan QR code or ask for ID. Very disappointing that public health rules are not being followed Food was a disaster. Gnocchi was like rubber. Chicken was dried out. Will never eat there again. So disgusting. For $80 I thought it would be edible. Tour guide was lacking and boring. January 2022. I still have not spoken with anyone. I have left messages. Nobody answers the phone. They offered no remedy They don’t care that the food was disgusting and they didn’t follow public health orders. I will NEVER go back.

Beautiful interiors, Great service and Good food! Went in for lunch during a visit to the park and every other cafe was packed in the Historical park. Great service- super friendly and quick! Emma and Nic were great and took good care of us. Food is good and quite filling. Bread pudding was great! Restrooms are also well maintained and clean.

Absolutely stunning dining room, walls of bright windows and antique chairs, fresh linens and friendly staff. My only complaint is the disallowing of strollers. We disrupted several diner’s enjoyment with a screaming infant and nowhere to put him down. Off peak hours when there’s ample room they should be allowed.

Sunday brunch is delicious. The eggs Benedict is amazing and the staff were all great at keeping us topped up with whatever we needed. One of the best brunch buffets I've ever had. Not one item in the buffet I didn't like.

I attended the Edwardian Garden party as one of the hosts, giving tours of the Prince House, The evening was a huge success. I would highly recommend you attend in August if you can. It began with passed hors d'oeuvres on the lawn with Champaigne. The dinner was a beautiful Three tomato salad with Arugula from the Heritage Park gardens. Then followed by Cornish game hen wrapped in proscuitto. Dessert was a wonderful Trifle, Wine flowed freely and the guest were able to go behind the ropes at the House and enjoy Croquet and Bocce ball on the lawn.

The Executive Chef and his staff did an amazing job, Lunch when you are at the park is just as amazing.

Just over a year ago, Siddall and I were married in the endearing, historical confines of Heritage Park. The reception was held in the Wainwright Hotel and the catering was divine. To revisit those memories for our first anniversary, we made our way back to the Wainwright for lunch. While the historic village is closed for the Winter Season, there are the odd times it opens, such as Once Upon A Christmas.

I’m a sucker for Halloween. So when I saw that Heritage Park was hosting its annual Ghosts and Gourmet event, I was sold. For $60.00 (per person, plus GST), we were treated to a delicious three course meal at the Wainwright Hotel and a ghost tour. As you’ll see below, my photos didn’t turn out so well.

It's EMBARRASSING that a great tourist attraction like Heritage Park puts on a brunch like this. We have had lots of great meals when Jan was running Heritage Park but I have never had brunch before nor will I again. It was absolutely terrible the only thing worth eating was the omelette which was fresh. The coffee was so strong and black took 2 creams just to make it drinkable. The Buffett had scrambled eggs, deep fried potato cubes bacon, two types of Sauage one was quite good but as nothing was labeled impossible to tell what it was. The baking was horrible the cinnamon buns must have been made with cake flour sickly sweet with no tooth feel. Lots of different things stuffed with very sweet whipped cream that had sat out too long. The write up we saw talked about Pork belly and smoked salmon none to be found.

The serving staff were great attentive and polite this review complains only about the quality of the food.

I am proud of Heritage Park and recommend it to visitors but I will make sure they give brunch a pass.

Great first experience, had the beef dip and it was AMAZING! Will definitely come again to try more food. Love the Victorian feel of the place.

Good all Around. We were here abut 2:20 in the afternoon. There was a 15 minute wait to get in. We ordered the fish and chips and the fish tacos. Fish and Chips had 2 pieces of fish, and plenty of fries, too many to finish. Both dishes were good . It looked like the fish tacos were a favourite amongst diners. Our waitress was a very young gir, but her service was outstanding.

Delicious food and amazing service!. We'd been hearing rave reviews about the brunch at Wainwright Hotel at Heritage Park so we finally decided to give it a try this weekend. Friends had told us that wait times could go up to an hour so reservations are recommended. My husband called at 10 am and booked a table for 5 for 11 am.
We arrived on time and let the hostess know we were there. After waiting for 10 minutes, we reminded her again that we were waiting for our table. She was very apologetic and told us they were just cleaning up our table. At about 11:20 (20 minutes of waiting), the manager came up to us and profusely apologized about the wait and told us he'd give us a $25 gift card. We were then shown to our table and the manager actually turned up with a $50 gift card! We were pleasantly surprised and very impressed with the service. A lot of restaurants have made us wait 15-20 minutes even with a reservation but the fact that the manager apologized and even made it up with the gift card really made the service stand out.
The buffet had a large variety of items - freshly baked goods, scrambled eggs, french toast, waffles, pancakes, breakfast potatoes, sausages, bacon, freshly churned butter, jam, a cheese platter, an omelette station and a decadent fruit and dessert station! Of special mention are the breakfast potatoes, waffles and to-order omelette station.
To be honest, I was so stuffed by the time I'd finished breakfast I didn't get a chance to try any of the dessert! My husband however tried the mini tiramisu cup and the chocolate swiss roll and said both items were amazing and the swiss roll was out of this world!
To the staff at the Wainwright hotel, thank you for the impeccable service and delicious food! We'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend the brunch!

Good Christmas Brunch. It's a family tradition to visit Heritage Park during their Christmas event and we always have brunch at the Wainwright. The food is good, nothing to wax philosophically over, but better than some of the revolting brunch buffets one may find out there. There is a decent selection of food that should satisfy everyone and the staff are quick to come around and refill coffee or deliver orange juice when you need it. To conclude, I could probably recommend about 1000 different restaurants to people looking for a nice sit-down meal, but this place should satisfy for breakfast/brunch at Heritage Park.

BAD EXPERIENCE. I was at Heritage Park this past weekend with my child (2) and my friends child (3) for Thomas the Train. It was about 12:30 by the time we arrived at the restaurant. We had to wait about 10 mins for our table so we decided to look at the menu so we could order right away because our children were very hungry. We got in and the restaurant had many open tables. We told the waitress that we wanted to order because we were hungry. About an hour later the manager came over and told us that the waitress forgot to order our food. Ok that's fine but we want our food soon because our children are starving. About another half hour goes by and the waitress tells us it's coming. So about another half hour we start to get up because we still never received our food. Apparently there was a computer glitch and the order never went thru. We were so appalled. All they had to other us after waiting 2+ hours was a pass to heritage park for the day. I paid good money for those THomas tickets and my experience with that incompitent waitress ruined my day. I honestly couldn't comment on the food but when someone at another table is eating my order and i was there first I was choked. Never again will I step into that restaurant.

Fresh and Tasty. I prefer more gourmet food and don't eat buffets, but the Wainwright's Sunday brunch buffet hit the spot. They don't offer an abundance of choices, but what they do serve is done well. The buffet is located away from the dining room, which is a great idea because it limits traffic and they can keep the food fresh and hot without fighting a crowd of people. The buffet consisted of yummy fried hash brown potatoes, perfectly done bacon, house made sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, crisp waffles, berry sauce, cheese platters, fresh fruit platters, baked goods and pastries. Service is excellent. Was very busy, so get their early or be prepared to wait 10-15 minutes.

Rustic Filling Food. I think you'd really have to know this restaurant was in Heritage Park to make a conscious effort to visit it. if it wasn't for a work-related off-site event, I'd have no idea it was there.

Although my visit wasn't for their weekend brunch, I was pretty fond of the food I got. Deep fried chicken, biscuits, pulled pork, and sausage. All were really tender meats which went down well, but sat pretty heavy. If this is what they ate in the olden days, they ate well.

The atmosphere was also nice as an old hotel setting. Was very rustic and nice to be surrounded by so much history while you had your meal. It would definitely be great for large events.

I'd be inclined to go down and try their brunch, but it would have to be on an entire day-trip to Heritage Park.

...last Saturday we walked to Heritage Park and had a nice lunch at the Wainwright Hotel inside the park. We bought a seasons pass earlier this year and have used it a couple of times.
