OMG, too many years of ever thinning 2 for 1 pizza makes Gus's pizza sooo much more appreciated. Sooo good, done right, like a pizza should be. Costs a couple more dollars but you get an awesome meal.
Great pizza! I keep thinking I should try more things on the menu, but then I walk in the door and go "geez, I need pizza right now." Only improvement I could think of would be to have beer on tap, but given how small the room is, I guess that's not going to happen.
Best part is that it's a 15-minute walk from home!
Best pizza in the city hands down! We drive across the city from the kitty corner opposite to go there, so it is a treat. But worth the ride.
My first time there, I called in for pick-up. 20 minutes they said. Hardly enough time for me to get ready and drive there. I did make it a few minutes early and was offered a glass of water while waited (thumbs up). It was ready on time and I was home 30 minutes after making the call. Pizza was very tasty and the crust a little crispy. Very impressed with my first impression.
Absolutely delightful food and fantastic prices and wonderful staff!!! Definitely going back for more!!
Always great food (especially pizza) and service at Gus's.
Good food. Very cozy place with amazing service.
To each his own, but leave the Pizza to Gus. Best anywhere.
Located across the street from the Foothills Hospital this was a lovely place to come for lunch. We told them we were on a time crunch and only had 45 minutes to eat, by the time we got our food we had about 10 minutes to eat and head out. It was a delicious meal though. We enjoyed the French Onion soup (the cheese was quite stringy so we think it was mozzarella), the warm pizza sub was really good as was the Caesar salad. I would recommend giving it a try. The pizzas looked & smelled delicious
We had lunch here yesterday after some appts near the hospital. The pizza was fantastic and the server was nice and friendly. Last time we had the French onion soup and it was very good as well. I had a Hawaiian and my wife had the house special pizza. Both were yummy :-)
Stayed in a hotel and ordered because of the pictures. Was super delicious, like small town old school mom and pops pizza. Highly recommend .
I decided to try this place on a whim because the pizza looked really good, and if you want restaurant quality pizza.. this place is definitely the place to go! The crust is amazing and the cheese and sauce are in good balance here, you get plenty of both. The tomatoes taste great, unlike the tomatoes on the $10 disks of cardboard you get from common delivery/takeout pizza places. The best part is they also do takeout here. In addition to all of this, the atmosphere is a little fancy-looking while being cozy, and the staff are amazingly polite and nice. The server was busy taking an order so one of the chefs in the back came out and helped me and it's so nice to see them willing to help each other out.
I tried the mexican pizza because I was feeling like a taco and a pizza.. and decided on pizza. When I saw the menu I said, why not both?
After a friend has recommended Gus's for their French Onion soup, we decided to give it a try!
As we waited for our soup, this little joint began to fill up with customers which was great to see on a Tuesday evening! The pizza's that were coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and we'll definitely be trying one next time!
When the French Onion soup arrived with our garlic bread it we were pleasantly pleased with how delicious it was.. and how cheesy it was! We'll definitely be back to Gus's soon to try more eat!
Gus's serves up a pretty good za. 4 of us came to the small establishment on a slow Tuesday evening and ordered a large caesar salad and 2 large pizzas. The salad was alright, pretty standard caesar, nothing special. The Mexican pizza was quite flavourful with the jalapeños, salsa, lettuce and sour cream giving you a taco feel without losing the fact you are eating pizza. The Roma was also a well composed pie with mediterranean flavours. The medium thick crust style at Gus's is definitely my preference and they baked it to perfection. The biggest downfall is the fact they serve it on a concave plate that pools all moisture in the centre and the middle of the pizza got very soggy. The service, although friendly, was not great. None of our drinks were refilled and even when my wife asked for more hot water it was forgotten. I can see this place being a good go to for take out but not a place I would come back to dine in.
It's difficult to be known for good pizza when there is so much competition. But Gus knows how to make it, the crust is perfectly crispy with the right amount of richness. There's a reason why he has "pizza" in his name, rather than "Gus's Italian Ristorante", because his pasta can be bragged about as well. The service is excellent, and I love how the restaurant is very quaint with lovely white table cloths. It looks high end, but it's not. And great prices too! Love it love it. I would go back over and over.
We ordered the Gus's Special on accident but it was still a very delicious pizza. I know most people love thin-crust pizza but I am the complete opposite. The pizza here is quite thick which is almost like a deep-dish type of pizza. All of the meat is cooked and hidden underneath the cheese which I always find easier to eat and it doesn't dry out the meat in the oven. This place is a tiny but cozy restaurant and service was great. The price of a large pizza was reasonable (~$26-27) considering how filling you get after 2-3 slices.
I somehow always forget about Gus's whenever the ICU orders pizza which is a tragedy as the pies are always A+++. The crust isn't too thick and has a nice buttery taste with crisp edges and melted cheese crusted on the sides. The pizza menu is fairly simple with good fresh ingredients. I loved the shrimp and mushroom pizza but enjoyed the spinach tomato and feta best! You get 10% off pizzas with pick-up :)
On our quest to discover calgary's greatest pizza, we came upon Gus's pizzeria. To begin with the customer service was fantastic and we were pleasantly surprised by the 10% pickup discount. We ordered a super cheese pizza (Mozzarella, Cheddar, Feta) and they didn't hold back. The cheese was plentiful, the crust a good texture and the sauce was just the right kind of mild. However it wasn't enough to standout in calgary's rich pizza market, but if you're in the neighbourhood it's worth checking out.
🌚 O&B 🌝
Amazing pizza and pasta. Friendly service. The parking is not that great but the restaurant will reimburse you for it. Great experience overall.
Delicious traditional pizza! It's a small restaurant so make sure you call for reso. I've had their pizzas and lasagna and they don't disappoint! Their service seems to be a lot better now as they hired another waitress to help out (finally!!). I only ever come for lunch and the kitchen is quite quick in having the pizzas ready! House special is a must have! Mmm
BEST Pizza in town!!. I have eaten at a lot of places and BY FAR this is the best Pizza - the crust is always perfect, the toppings (especially the cheese) is layered great and the flavor is outstanding! I love many things on their menu = it's a bit dangerous working across the street from them!
YOU GOTTA EAT HERE!!!
Great place for lunch. The decor here is so cute, they always have fresh flowers on the tables. The pastas and pizzas are also delicious but are a bit more expensive than other restaurants.
Absolutely scrump-tastic pizza. Our work area recently moved offices, so our boss decided to treat all of us to a pizza lunch. Please note, this review is for Gus's to go.
Gus' (at least that is what it says on the box) does not delivery, only pick up is available. So by the time the pizza arrived at our work place, it was somewhat cold.
However, that did not take away from the deliciousness of Gus' pizza.
3 pizzas were ordered, hawaiian, pseudo vegetarian, and meat lovers. 2 orders of caesar salad and greek salad were ordered, plus garlic toast.
I tried all 3, and my favourite had to be the hawaiian. Plenty of ham and pineapple adorned the pizza, plus fresh diced tomatoes. It all added up to a very scrumptious pizza. Next was the psuedo vegetarian, I call it pseudo because there was a layer of pepperoni on the bottom, and the top had oodles of veggies - green peppers, onions, mushrooms, ...
The crust was marvelous ! The crust was crunchy, yet as you progressed the bread like texture of the crust heightened the pizza experience. Wonderful !
The next star of the meal has got to be the caesar salad. The dressing was out of this world, a nice subtle sweetness to it yet tangy overall, with a nice mild garlic taste throughout. The garlic toast was heavenly, perfected soaked with butter (so it isn't oily but each bite consisted of cholesterol clogging yet wonderful buttery taste) with a nice blend of garlic.
Food wise, Gus' pizza is an absolutely amazing delight.
Enjoyed dinner at Gus's Pizza several, several times. A nice quiet and comforting setting accompanied by damn good Pizza. It doesn't matter what time of day, month or year I go, I have always gotten the same delicious Pizza every time. Gus's may also have one of the best Caeser salads I've ever tasted. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
There's a reason this place has been around so long. The pizza here is consistently amazing and the staff are great.
Great pizza, especially love the Greek pizza. The crust is delicious. Small restaurant but friendly service.
If you want the best pizza Calgary has to offer.... Gus's is the place. This quaint establishment beside Foothills Hospital is rustic and homey. Be warned however service can be a tad on the slow side and make no mistake it is a cozy restaurant so there may be a wait to be seated. If you order to go they offer a discount. We order the house special and Gus's special... could eat those everyday without a thought. YUM!
Very cute place to dine with family or friends, service is great, the food is fantastic! The pizza is amazing, their Cesar salad tastes better than any that I've ever tried. The French onion soup was incredible, the best I've had. Prices are a bit high, but it is very much worth it. Highly recommend visiting this place.
A nice homely little place. Services was slow, but the food was fresh and hot.
Make the drive to Gus's!. We went here after an appointment at the hospital because we were starving and we were so happy we tried it out. The service is great and the pizza is delicious!
Very satisfying food. Tried this Cafe/Pizzeria for the first time today. We had a group of four and all tried different items. EVERYONE was extremely satisfied with their choice! Baked onion soup/reuban sandwich/pizza/quesedilla and soup of the day were some of the menu items we had. Would definitely recommend this place and we would all return again and again.
I have eaten many pizzas from many fast food pizza joints since moving to Calgary four yrs ago. Papa johns WAS my favorite. That is until my hubby found Gus. It's on his way home and it is the Most authentic home style deep delicious pizza I have eaten. I have to order less cheese because it comes LOADED with toppings and cheese!! The crust is thick and so fresh. The sauce on the pie is to die for. You can TASTE oregano, garlic and rosemary. I would recommend this pizza to anyone who wants REAL FOOD! thanks Gus and family!
Great Pizza. We have been going to Gus's for years with family and freinds and have yet to be dissappointed. They offer Greek stlye pizza's with homemade dough and sauces. I recommend you try the Gus's special, with greek salad (the portions are pretty big) and the pasta's are awesome too! Love it!
My new favorite pizza in Calgary. We stopped by here last week while in Calgary. Place was just closing but they made us some food for take out. We had a Hawaiian, the Roma and a Greek salad.
The salad was OK, the ingredients were good but we prefer more kick with our dressing and this was was more mild...but that didn't matter cause the pizza was amazing. Great crust, great sauce, ...and the ingredients were amazing. I wanted more.
Beyond the food, the person who looked after us (Owner I assume) was one of the nicest people you will ever meet. And the space looked nice too. We wished we had been an hour earlier so we could of dined in but we plan to come back here next time and eat in.
Although I have never dined at Gus's, we have received catering at our office on several occasions. The food is always hot and delicious. I especially recommend the Greek salad, and of course - you can't go wrong with the pizza!
Gus' is Great!. I've been to Gus' on a number of occasions and have never left disappointed.
The first time I came here I got the pizza, and have since been hooked. I can't speak to any of the other dishes because the pizza is to die for, and I haven't ordered anything else. I live a good hour away from this place, so anytime I get the chance to order the pizza I'm taking it.
The place itself is nothing fancy. Family run place, Gus can usually be seen reading the paper at the corner table.
If your a fan of pizza, you must come here.
Surprised. I was surprised how much nicer the inside of Gus's was to its exterior. I had the lasagna which was ok but the pizza looked delicious and I would give that a try if I went again.
Delicious every time. Great Pizza, love the greek salad, 1/2 orders which are nice as a lunch option! Liquor license & a few tables outside for sunny days.
The only thing better than their food is their service. I gave them only 1 1/2 hours notice to prepare and deliver lunch for 9 people at the Foothills location. It was delivered hot, on time and with a smile.
Mmm... delicious pizza.... A cozy restaurant with some good pizza. Plenty of cheese and tasty toppings. Next time, I suspect we'll try the pasta.
Dinner at Gus's. I had dinner at Gus's last weekend and LOVED it. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was excellent. We had a Hawaiian pizza and baked lasagna with meatsauce. The portions are very generous and reasonably priced.
We will definitely be going back.
Pizza is great with tons of toppings and fresh homeade crust. As such, it takes a bit longer to make but it is worth it even if you are hungry. Would recommend the gus' special.
Best Cannelloni in town!!! A hidden treasure - nothing fancy but the food speaks for itself. Pizzas are fantastic and they do a mean greek salad. I love, love, love the cannelloni!
Tiny little place, not a lot of ambience, but some of the best pizza in the city for sure. I agree with the other review about the desserts..store bought and not very good. A disappontment for sure after an otherwise very good meal.
WOW! This food is great food is always fresh right from the oven I recomend this
Gus's rocks. One day I when to Gus's cafe & pizzeria and I was wowed by how good the pizza was and I loved the coffe cheesecake it was so good. You guy's should go there some time!
