OMG, too many years of ever thinning 2 for 1 pizza makes Gus's pizza sooo much more appreciated. Sooo good, done right, like a pizza should be. Costs a couple more dollars but you get an awesome meal.
Great pizza! I keep thinking I should try more things on the menu, but then I walk in the door and go "geez, I need pizza right now." Only improvement I could think of would be to have beer on tap, but given how small the room is, I guess that's not going to happen.
Best part is that it's a 15-minute walk from home!
Located across the street from the Foothills Hospital this was a lovely place to come for lunch. We told them we were on a time crunch and only had 45 minutes to eat, by the time we got our food we had about 10 minutes to eat and head out. It was a delicious meal though. We enjoyed the French Onion soup (the cheese was quite stringy so we think it was mozzarella), the warm pizza sub was really good as was the Caesar salad. I would recommend giving it a try. The pizzas looked & smelled delicious
We had lunch here yesterday after some appts near the hospital. The pizza was fantastic and the server was nice and friendly. Last time we had the French onion soup and it was very good as well. I had a Hawaiian and my wife had the house special pizza. Both were yummy :-)
Stayed in a hotel and ordered because of the pictures. Was super delicious, like small town old school mom and pops pizza. Highly recommend .
I decided to try this place on a whim because the pizza looked really good, and if you want restaurant quality pizza.. this place is definitely the place to go! The crust is amazing and the cheese and sauce are in good balance here, you get plenty of both. The tomatoes taste great, unlike the tomatoes on the $10 disks of cardboard you get from common delivery/takeout pizza places. The best part is they also do takeout here. In addition to all of this, the atmosphere is a little fancy-looking while being cozy, and the staff are amazingly polite and nice. The server was busy taking an order so one of the chefs in the back came out and helped me and it's so nice to see them willing to help each other out.
I tried the mexican pizza because I was feeling like a taco and a pizza.. and decided on pizza. When I saw the menu I said, why not both?
After a friend has recommended Gus's for their French Onion soup, we decided to give it a try!
As we waited for our soup, this little joint began to fill up with customers which was great to see on a Tuesday evening! The pizza's that were coming out of the kitchen looked amazing and we'll definitely be trying one next time!
When the French Onion soup arrived with our garlic bread it we were pleasantly pleased with how delicious it was.. and how cheesy it was! We'll definitely be back to Gus's soon to try more eat!
Gus's serves up a pretty good za. 4 of us came to the small establishment on a slow Tuesday evening and ordered a large caesar salad and 2 large pizzas. The salad was alright, pretty standard caesar, nothing special. The Mexican pizza was quite flavourful with the jalapeños, salsa, lettuce and sour cream giving you a taco feel without losing the fact you are eating pizza. The Roma was also a well composed pie with mediterranean flavours. The medium thick crust style at Gus's is definitely my preference and they baked it to perfection. The biggest downfall is the fact they serve it on a concave plate that pools all moisture in the centre and the middle of the pizza got very soggy. The service, although friendly, was not great. None of our drinks were refilled and even when my wife asked for more hot water it was forgotten. I can see this place being a good go to for take out but not a place I would come back to dine in.
It's difficult to be known for good pizza when there is so much competition. But Gus knows how to make it, the crust is perfectly crispy with the right amount of richness. There's a reason why he has "pizza" in his name, rather than "Gus's Italian Ristorante", because his pasta can be bragged about as well. The service is excellent, and I love how the restaurant is very quaint with lovely white table cloths. It looks high end, but it's not. And great prices too! Love it love it. I would go back over and over.
We ordered the Gus's Special on accident but it was still a very delicious pizza. I know most people love thin-crust pizza but I am the complete opposite. The pizza here is quite thick which is almost like a deep-dish type of pizza. All of the meat is cooked and hidden underneath the cheese which I always find easier to eat and it doesn't dry out the meat in the oven. This place is a tiny but cozy restaurant and service was great. The price of a large pizza was reasonable (~$26-27) considering how filling you get after 2-3 slices.
I somehow always forget about Gus's whenever the ICU orders pizza which is a tragedy as the pies are always A+++. The crust isn't too thick and has a nice buttery taste with crisp edges and melted cheese crusted on the sides. The pizza menu is fairly simple with good fresh ingredients. I loved the shrimp and mushroom pizza but enjoyed the spinach tomato and feta best! You get 10% off pizzas with pick-up :)
On our quest to discover calgary's greatest pizza, we came upon Gus's pizzeria. To begin with the customer service was fantastic and we were pleasantly surprised by the 10% pickup discount. We ordered a super cheese pizza (Mozzarella, Cheddar, Feta) and they didn't hold back. The cheese was plentiful, the crust a good texture and the sauce was just the right kind of mild. However it wasn't enough to standout in calgary's rich pizza market, but if you're in the neighbourhood it's worth checking out.
