Cassis Bistro is a cute little French restaurant near the Shaganappi golf course. There is a parkade in the building that my friend parked in, while I found a spot on the side street. With classic movies projected onto the back wall, you can keep yourself entertained if your company is running late. The tables and chairs are stylish yet comfortable, and our server was super friendly and knowledgable about the dishes we had to choose from. As is typical these days, I did find the tables were too close together and the small tables are right up against the wall, leaving you with no elbow room. We were there on the last day of the winter menu and I look forward to trying some lighter dishes this summer.
The decor is very well thought out, modern yet original. The staff are very friendly however they could use a bit more servers. The appetizers came late due to a mixup, again probably because they are understaffed. The food was delicious, could have been a bit more rich in flavour. It would have been nice to get bread and butter right at the beginning as we waited for the appetizers. The plating was very original and impressive. Overall, a very good higher end place to dine.
The scallop and risotto was definitely the star of the night. It was so delicious, creamy, yet refreshing with the citrus notes. The chips with the Tartare was crispy and fresh. The duck confit was a little too salty for my taste but the gnocchi that paired with it was really good.
We had a great meal at Cassis last night. The food was technically beautiful, seasoned well, and the service was great. One thing of note: a male server walking by our table did one of those I-have-a-sinus-cold very noticeable, DISGUSTING horking noises. 😩No exaggeration it made me gag on my bite. I wanted to tell the super nice manager, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. He was wearing a baby blue Lacoste golf shirt. Very unsavoury. :( Gross.
Prior to coming here, my friend had called twice to make a reservation with no response. About an hour before our dinner, I called one more time to ask if it was busy and possibly reserve a table. The person who answered was very abrupt and rude, implying I should've called earlier and basically hung up on me. We ended up coming in anyways and sitting at the bar, as the place was packed and there were no tables available. Our server was a bit awkward and misinterpreted some things we said (such as ordering two soups when we asked for one to share), but the food was so delicious and fresh that it made up for the rocky start. Tomato soup, lamb merguez
Love this quaint little French restourant. Enjoy the small amount of people it seats, movie playing in the background and the outdoor patio. Steak and frites are a 10! And the weekend brunch is well worth the drive!
The food was amazing, and the service was pretty good. Two minor complaints, I arrived a few minutes before they opened and was asked to wait in the attached coffee area, then they closed the sliding door as they opened so I had to walk outside and around to the front door at -25. Then I was sat at the bar by the window which was freezing and had to eat with my coat on. Relatively small issues, but enough to make me not feel so welcome.
Great food and wonderful, romantic ambience. Our server wasn't as attentive as some other restaurants I've been to, but the food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the beef tartare and I had the duck confit which was delicious. Portion sizes were perfect and filling. Loved that they had a movie projected in the background.
Wow! It's been years since going here. We ordered the green salad to start and it was superb. Great lettuce carrot and dressing. Y dad ordered the lamb special and it tasted amazing. My steak frites was great - huge pile of fries, a side salad and the steak was well cooked with a peppercorn sauce. A real treat!
A fine evening. Our dining club met at Cassis for the first time. All six of us were very impressed. Service was engaging and efficient. The food awesome - rich, flavourful and well proportioned. Definitely try the charcuterie plate. The foie gras is killer. Amazing chicken livers. And the place was packed, people were even sitting on the outdoor patio (in Calgary, in November)! If you are into French food, seek this place out. Thanks for a fine evening Cassis Bistro.
