Review Achillies Restaurant - Burnaby

Cheap Eats Alert! 5/5 Value TCT (Triple Coconut Tree) is a hole-in-the-wall gem. Nothing fancy here, it looks like a restaurant from the 90s. Nothing wrong with that when you’re hungry and want bang for your buck. Prices for a bowl of pho are creeping close to $20 around the city at many establishments. So a small bowl for $12 at TCT is eye-catching. If you’re really hungry just up size it for a buck more and the portion size is huge. Or add the crunchy spring rolls which are 2 for $5. I’ll be coming back more often to try the other menu items and the coffee too! A steal at $3.5! Note though that they are Cash or Debit only

My family's favorite Vietnamese restaurant. They have the best pho and lemon grass chicken and rice dishes in lower mainland. Also ordered their deep fried tofu and chicken wings. Both were delicious! Not to mention jack fruit, lychee shakes and Vietnamese Ice Coffee are also the best around. Restaurant is clean, owners are the waiters and are very friendly. Must try for pho/Vietnamese food lovers.

Great value and great service at this local restaurant. I got takeout lemongrass chicken vermicelli with spring rolls and the portions were huge! The waitress was really nice and I only waited about 10 to 15 minutes for my food. Very solid choice for a Vietnamese if you’re in the Burnaby Heights area

My favourite pho place in North Burnaby! Close to home with a large menu and really reasonable prices! Run by a lovely couple, this little spot is great for take out (wait times are usually quite short), or a quick meal dine in. I highly reccomend the super crispy spring rolls and delicious lemongrass chicken pho. The platters come with a lot of protein, and will keep you full for houra. The deep fried wings are a another great sharable appetizer.

I can't believe I found my old Vietnamese spot! They use to be at 22nd and Rupert but I had no idea they moved here. After 16 years, the flavors are very much alive! Can't wait to bring my entire family here! Quantity and quality has not suffered from The many years AND through covid. Support local business and come to Triple Coconut Tree! It's kinda scary but the owners have not aged a day.....I'm guessing there are healing properties from delicious food?

Decent vermicelli bowls! Large! Ordered #53, lemongrass chicken with spring rolls. The other order was #54, lemongrass chicken with prawns! The spring rolls were very crispy! Service is friendly. Run by a mom and pop. Only 2 people working so food may come a bit slower when full.

I miss this place a lot. Very good Pho Noodles and Spring Rolls. Reasonably priced. Comfort food.

Delicious food and quick service. Large servings!

We came her for our Christmas dinner to support a local restaurant and to save time on cooking this year. The food is pretty tasty. The portions are surprisingly large. The chicken wings are deliciously deep fried to a crispy perfection. I will eat here again.

Price / quality ratio is good. It's not a fancy place. Lemon grass chicken with noodle in soup was good. Service was fast. I would go back.

Typical Asian restaurant of a bygone era. Interior is worn and dated, but the portions are generous and the food is good. I would come back. Service is friendly, seems like a mom and pop operation.

Best pho in Burnaby also cheapest price very authentic!

Their grilled chicken is the best. Curry rice is not recommended in my opinion~ Price is very reasonable!

Good quantity and quality. We sampled a pho, grilled chicken and deep fried chicken wings. All were good.

Good pho, not the best. Very warm staff! Its a quiet little place, I’ve never seen it full, but very welcoming servers- at least the one, middle-aged man, serving us one night.

Used to come here a lot but the pho broth has changed and I don't like it as much. The broth is very sweet instead of savoury now. The owner is nice but his waitress is blunt and rude.

I went for a quick dinner with someone and was surprised on check out that they didn't accept credit cards! I was told that it was written somewhere outside. I didn't have cash or debit card with me. The server was so mean to demand cash from the bank and to have my partner stay as a guarantee! I ATM brought her cash ($16) from a nearby ATM. What a miserable mindset to encounter in the holiday seasons, unfortunately. If it was a no credit card place, it should have been written clearly.

For food I ordered td it's not that bad. The food (beef stew rice noodle) taste good. The noodle is nothing special but the beef is nice! Ab the service, they look very serious and they don't smile. Aft I eat this, I feel terrible bcz my stomach like be putted in a trash...

I will only rate the food I had:

1) Spring Rolls - I think the deep fat they fried them in needed changing. I wouldn't order them again.

2) Salad Rolls - comparing these to our regular Pho restaurants these were sub-par in my opinion. Not very large, and not much in them Perhaps we are spoiled with the quality of these above dishes at our regular Pho restaurant in Langley (Photau Pho). Eating at Triple Coconut made me really appreciate Photau Pho. That said, the people I went went appeared to like their other dishes.

OMG!!! How can a place like this stay in business. I've had Vietnamese food in Houston,Tx, Shanghai, China, Miami, FL, even a little place like Arcadia, Ca. and many other places and I've never had such terrible food! I had the beef short ribs with an egg. I couldn't believe what they passed off as "Great Vietnamese food". I knew there was something wrong when they put the food in front of me. The short ribs were fried and greasy, not grilled. All the other places I've been to, grilled the ribs. I ate the egg and got the waitress to throw the rest away. It's not fit for human consumption. Maybe for dogs it's ok but not for me. Either the great google reviews was done by the owners kids or wife but it couldn't have been real customers. You can't even leave a review on Google Reviews and I know why now. With all the Asians living in Burnaby, I thought most Asian restaurants will be pretty good here. Man, was I mistaken. My shadow will never darken their entrance ever again. I paid for the meal and and told the waitress what I think. SIGH! I can't believe that the Asian Restaurants in Texas are better than in the Lower Mainland. It's unbelievable that those cowboys in Tx. has better Asian food than here!

Not good.... Saying it like it is. Soup was blah. Place is empty. Really sad, just avoid if you want good pho. The fried springroll was bubbly.

This is the worst restaurant I've ever encountered. Do yourself a favour and never go here. I arrived to this restaurant and ordered take out. The lady working as host/server looked miserable. On top of that, I was't greeted and was given nasty looks. After looking at the menu I asked to get a banh mi to go and before I even finished telling her what kind, she cut me off and said "ok ok" and started walking to the back kitchen. I had to call her over and tell her what kind I wanted. Talk about rude service right away! I told her I wanted it to be pork. After this, she glared and rolled her eyes at me. I was shocked as she felt like I did something absolutely wrong. when she brought me the banh mi, she threw it in a plastic bag, not even wrapped in a sheet or anything as it usually is at other restaurants. As I was standing about a foot away, she proceeded to walk over to a table, which was further away than where I was standing from her and then THREW it across the table. I saw the poor banh mi bounce away as it hit the table. Who does that? seriously. Anyways, my boyfriend was present and he was appalled at what he just saw too.
We left and as soon as I had a couple bites, I couldn't finish it and threw it out. The bread was crispy and warm, however, there was about 10% meat in it and the rest 90% fat. It tasted awful. I will never come back and support this business especially with how poorly I was treated. Horrendous service, terrible food. Overall the worst restaurant ever.

Not good. If you want good and authentic vietnamese food, go somewhere else.

Pretty Good Pho & Shakes. So I usually like to order pho with lots of different meats. This place has fewer choices of meat but their broth is really good. They provide fresh bean sprouts and their broth is hot which is important to cook the meat. Service is basic but prompt. They also have amazing shakes. I usually go with the jackfruit shake for takeaway which is the bomb! About a dollar more expensive but a reliable choice. Free parking just near the bank next door. Found this place when I was getting a haircut next door. Will go back and have gone back multiple times.

Good price, decent taste, a bit dirty, no service. I went inside and stood there for 30 seconds, didn't see any waiters/waitresses. No problem, I just found myself a spot. The only waitress was very busy serving 3 tables. The place is a little dirty, table is a little sticky, not a huge problem for me. Noodle soup does not have too much flavor, and noodle itself is a bit too soft. Like most other restaurant, they replaced their lime with lemon. They are both sour, but they taste so much different, and lemon does not do well with Pho. Food is a bit cheaper than most Viet restaurant. The waitress did not even say a word the whole time, no greeting, no thank you.

Dirty. I have been a few times to the Triple Coconut Tree and while it was never sparkling clean, the last visit it was down right disgusting. Smears of sauce on the walls, crud on the floor. The server was also horrible. She brought us only one bowl of Pho (even though we'd ordered 2) and when she finally brought the second bowl, she didn't bring any of the toppings. Also, she had her thumb basically in the bowl and her hands were not exactly clean. Even though they have now renovated, I will not be back. Much nicer Vietnamese restaurants have moved into the neighbourhood now.

Love it. By far the best pho place I've been to in my life. The price you pay for the amount of noodles you get is a very good deal. My favourite appetizer would be the chicken wings, lots of flavour and very crispy. Definitely coming back here for future meals.

Yum!. I love to eat here all the time! the food is pretty good and the service is great! i like their spicy food a lot. the waitress at the restaurant is very nice. i highly reccomend this restaurant to anyone who wants good food that you won't find anywhere else!

Pepper Galore! This is not close to being Authentic. 1st time visit.. Surely will be the last time.. Went to check out this restaurant as there were people in the restaurant. We ordered two orders.. as described

1. Grilled pork, spring roll, on dried rice noodle: |Grilled pork, 60% all fat and chewy, 20% excessive black pepper (similar meat in chinese pork soup), Spring roll was ok, overly loaded with black pepper.

2. Grilled chicken, shredded pork, sunny side egg on rice. Grilled chicken, very chinese style, 40% loaded with black pepper, shredded pork, overly salted seasoned and wtih black pepper. sunny side up egg. was done good as easy over..BUT, they showered it with lots of, you guess it.. BLACK PEPPER.. What's with al the black pepper everything. ?

I can't even say it's close to being authentic, it's pretty much chinese food with lots of black pepper in on a different plate set up. Typical family business. the price you can get much better authentic food across the street or down the block. If you consider eating here, you are better off going to a chinese restaurant cause they don't over use black pepper

It is very good. The food is very good, and i keep going back for more. after 5 years of coming to this restaurant regularly, i still enjoy the food, no matter how much i eat it. i have tried many other restaurants in the area and this one is my favourite. the waitress is very friendly. for the money you pay, you get very good food that is very reasonably priced. if you want great vietnamese food for a good price, this is the best place to go.

Wont be back!. We decided to try this place because it was $1 cheaper for a large Pho Tai then a few of the other Pho places around. Well you get, or really don't get what you pay for! We ordered take out and they neglected to give us any of the red sauce or any chopsticks ( this happened to us twice!! )The Pho was bland and the lady was less than pleasant and seemed in a rush to get us out the door even though the place was pretty much empty! Wont be going back, we'll pay the extra dollar next time we feel like Vietnamese!

Not worth the money. The pho is is tasteless and over priced for the portion size.

Disgusting food ever.. I went there this morning, i ordered beef brisket & beef balls and the lady told me that its number 31 so i was like sure okay, i looked at the menu and it said raw beef with beef balls, i went up to her and told her that i didnt want the raw beef and she said yeah i know in such a rude way like im wrong or something so i sat back down waited it took about 15 min, only 1 person was in the store, for me it was long for just only me ordering. it came out, the soup was super cloudy didnt even look like pho, it was plain, had 3 little tiny beef balls, little pieces of beef brisket and there was raw beef in there! i told her that i specifically asked her not to put raw beef and she looked at me very annoyed and irritated that i made a complaint and told me to eat it anyways and i told her that im not going to eat it and that im not paying for it. i had a sip to see how it tasted and it tasted like rotten old pho from a week ago. it was the most disgusting pho ever! she told me she will take out the raw beef but i said no and she went to the back and yelled in chinese to the other person about me. this is the second time ive been here the first time i tried the rice and it was not good either!! I am NEVER going back there agian! disgusting food. business like this should not even be open. they never apologized or said anything but just glared and was yelling in Chinese. i highly recommend anyone to come.

Best Vietnamese restaurant ever!, cheap and big portions!
Arrrrffff
Somewhere in the middle. Atmosphere: Love the dining area. It's cozy and there are 2 sections, so you can pick the quietest one and have a great private conversation with your partner.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Cleanliness: Clean dining area and a single washroom with paper and soap. Not the cleanest washroom, but for what it is, it's sufficient.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Service: I have never been here where it was busy and I have been here throughout the week. Thus, the service was often quick. Pho comes out in ~5 mins with other orders being more slow. Each time I've ordered the red/green bean drink, it has come in the middle of our meal, which was kind of annoying.

No complaints about our treatment though.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Food: The broth is one of the best I've tried. It is consistent, light and fine. It complimented the food well without being overpowering or overly fatty. They strain it pretty well.

Pho - Their broth was wonderful and so were the noodles, BUT there really isn't much meat in the bowl. They give you a measly portion of meat that is already super fatty. If they used lean beef and add more of it, I would have made this place the go to place for pho. It's mediocre because of that.

Chicken on Rice with fried egg - LOTS of rice, 2 dark chicken steaks and a salad filled me up pretty good. Delicious.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Overall: They're a nice addition to the neighborhood. With friendly staff and a great dining area, I'd go back. I'm just worried that their quality is going down. Who wants to order beef noodles without the "beef"?

Not so good. The worst salad roll and vietnamese sub i have ever eaten and i've been to a lot of vietnamese restaurants. Can't comment on their other menu items as this was my first visit, but based on the two items i tried today, i doubt i'll ever go back.

Pretty good. I've been here a lot. food is good. There are some consistency issues though. They have several cooks in the back and they all seem to make the food differently so it's difficult to get what you expect.

Reliable. I like this place. I've been here several times and always enjoy my meal. Not the best pho ever, but pretty good. I also like the bun, and their spring rolls are above average. Ingredients seem fresh. Servers are friendly.

Fatty. The first time I went was the first time I had ever had Pho and loved the place. The times after that the meal I ordered got fattier and fattier to the point that I would eat about one-quarter of the beef in the bowl.

I'm finicky and prefer leaner cuts.

My favorite pho place in Burnaby! The pho is always amazing and delicious. Price is good for what you pay for too. I highly recommend this place for a rainy day!

This place is Fantastic!!!!. Every week I come here with my friends because it's not too far from where I live and the food is great. Every time I come here to eat, I order spring rolls, which I think are the best i have ever had i my life. My best friend, Jessie, loves to eat #65 because it tastes awesome. The price is $7.25 for it, which is very cheap for a big plate of rice. The place has good food that doesn't cost much. When I first walked in, I could see tasty food everywhere. I got greeted my the nice waitress, and got a good seat near the window. The staff were very friendly, and actually had a nice conversation with me. They kept the place very clean. When the food got served to me, I knew I would come here again. it was very tasty, had a very good price, and looked appetizing.

When you don't know what to eat. Living in Burnaby heights, there are only few restaurant to choose from. Many of them close early, some of them close in weekend, there is even one only open at work time (you know what I'm talking about :0)

When I can't decide what to eat, triple coconut tree is always my first choice. They open till 11:30PM, decent food, reasonable price and lots of choice.

As a pho place, I have to honestly say their pho is just average, neither their soup nor beef are top quality. But if you have an open mind and not here just for Pho, TCT has lots of better things.

I found their dry rice noodles are AMAZING. Simple rice noodle with meat and fish sauce, just sooooo rich in flavor.

Not to mention that they also have broken rice dishes, which you can't find many close by.

Compare to the other two pho places in Burnaby heights, TCT has much more interesting dishes you can try out and never getting bored.

Great Pho, really tasty broth! Come here regularly for take out and have never been disapointed. Yummy vietnamese salad roll too

Good place to go for a quick bowl of pho in North Burnaby area. Be patient with the service.

I went with my usual, two shrimp salad rolls ($3.99). Unlike most vietnamese restaurants, triple coconut tree doesn’t allow you to order shrimp salad rolls in single orders. Each order comes with two shrimp salad rolls, no lonely salad roll allowed. The rolls were pretty standard, nothing special. They didn’t have the vietnamese ham in them though like they normally do. Oracle got the grilled chicken bahn mi sandwich ($3.75). She’s gotten this here before and likes it quite a bit. The bun was clearly nice and crispy toasty because she was leaving crumbs all over the table (a good but messy sign). The chicken wasn’t too try on the inside either. I thought that the filling in the bahn mi was a little lacking though compared to the ones I’ve had before at ot

Triple Coconut Tree is an odd name for a pho restaurant, but it is an odd restaurant. When I used to work up in that area it was a Chinese buffet.

In a concerted effort to try restaurants closer to home, I checked out Triple Coconut Tree a few times a few months ago. They serve the usual pho and banh mi, as well as some snacks such as chicken wings and spring rolls. First up is the Banh Mi , a Vietnamese sandwich, filled with carrots, cilantro, and assorted meats, such as Vietnamese ham, pork and chicken. The one we have here is called the Dac Biet. The bread was not as fresh as I've had in other places, such as DD Mau . I think that there is too much carrot, and it's used as a filler. The meat to bread ratio is pretty fair, and the filling goes right up to the ends of the bun, which is very important to me. As you can see, there are a lot of carrots here, and I think I wouldn't have minded it so much had they been properly pickled. For comfort food, we got a few bowls of Pho to try. First up was the Pho Tai Bo Vien . I really liked the rawness of the beef here and there wer lots of it. The meatballs were average, with a nice

A couple of years ago, there was a restaurant in North Burnaby called China Express. When the food fair at Brentwood Mall was being renovated, they relocated their stall to an actual restaurant on Hastings. Along with table service, they had three large s

Since both R and I are avid lover for pho, so we decided to check out Triple Coconut Tree restaurant which was about a block away. The restaurant was quite large in comparison with other ones.
