Just got their pho & spring roll. Really tasty spring rolls, and also, a really good pho! The order was a takeout through SkipTheDishes, who managed to crack the bowl with pho spilling it all over & damaging the experience a little. But I appreciate that they packed the noodle & chicken in one container and the broth in the other. Kept things clean.
Pho 101 has one of the best pho broths in Burnaby. The noodles are great and it's a great place to have a quick meal and bounce. I used to be a regular there when I worked near Pho 101 but during my recent visit, their meat wasn't on par. It felt a bit on the lean side for their brisket. But their broth is really amazing and definitely one of the clearest. In terms of decor, it's a hole in the wall but the food is great.
I'm a regular customer here-the soup for the pho is very tasty, not too salty. Friendly and prompt service. Spring rolls are probably the best anywhere. The salad rolls are also pretty good. I'm also a big fan of the #37 vermicelli dish with lemongrass chicken. While not the cheapest it's a fair amount of food and it's always good.
Big portion, Taste is Ok. Friendly staff. Nice interior deco, not like other pho places which usually suggesting a "finish your stuff and get out" kind of deco. Cheap, I be been visiting monthly. Will give a 4.5 if close by 9pm
This is my fav pho place! Spring rolls are amazing and always crispy and super hot. The sauce for it is the perfect partner. O always get the small pho chin and the portion is massive. Have to admit this is the estimate hangover cure in the area and I couldn't recommend it more highly. Pick up is even great and they're super fast!
The pho here is good. The soup here is better than most pho places I've been to, I don't find myself thirsty afterwards. The iced coffee is decent, some days a bit weak, some days nice and strong the way I like. But the spring rolls, wow. I don't think I've found another pho joint with better spring rolls, they're so crispy and tasty, and most importantly not super oily. The only thing that really keeps this place from being perfect for me is that their pho noodles seems a bit too thick. It's like the noodles are slightly under cooked so they are a bit too firm and the rice flavour somewhat overpowers everything else.
This pho was delicious and the portion size was huge! It was the first time having pho that I couldn't finish it. It was loaded with meat and noodles, hot and tasty. I haven't found a pho resto in Victoria that compares to this one in Burnaby. The atmosphere was nice. Lots of space.
Tasty Pho in North Burnaby. Pho 101 is located in North Burnaby on the way up to SFU or the Barnett Highway. It's a clean, nicely decorated room and the staff are young and cheerful. I always get a large bowl of Pho since it's only 25 cents more than a small.
The sprouts, basil and lime are fresh and they have great satay chilli oil that you can even buy to take home for $5. Fair portion of noodles are done perfectly and the broth is clean and earthy with very little or no MSG. I've also tried the Lemongrass Chicken on rice and the Beef Stew on rice and both were also good. I like the place because the food is good, servers are nice and the place is bright and roomy, so you don't feel crowded.
Delicious. Ordered #37 which is the grilled pork with spring roll over vermicelli noodles. The pork was tender and full of flavour and the egg roll was very crispy with lots of meat.
Highly recommend this place for lunch and/or want some good comfort food.
Love it! Favourite things include the pho tai and spring rolls. The subs are good too!
The food is very good. The pho beef balls are very juicy. And the rice meals are phenominal.
On lemongrass chicken. I get the same thing pretty much every time I go for vietnamese: lemongrass chicken on rice with a fried egg on top.
Pho 101 makes this dish flavorfully and reliably: the chicken is moist and delicious with ample and appropriate charring, there is a good amount of rice (but not too much, which bothers me as much as too little), and the dish is accompanied by a simple yet fresh salad.
If I have one objection it is to the quality of the egg that is served. It is always fried perfectly, though it is of an obvious low quality: the yolk is pale, thin, and not particularly tasty.
For those of us who enjoy a farm-fresh egg with a deep-orange, rich, and silky yolk, the pallid yellow of an inferior egg is quite disappointing.
I would recommend Pho 101 use a higher quality egg.
Flavourful Pho with no MSG. I really like this place!
I've been here about 3 times now, and all my friends love it too.
In addition to the menus they provide, they also have pictures of their most popular menu items underneath the glass tables. This is a smart marketing strategy, as it makes you constantly hungry.
Here's how I'll describe this place:
- Good flavourful pho with no MSG
- Looks really sleek, it has the POSH black/red combo look
- It's normally empty for some reason too, which is a pro, but odd for a place that's this good
Cons:
- Parking: You usually have to park near the park
We tried a baguette and chicken/rice for take-out the other night. Yummy! Baguette could have been spicier. We will be back!
The pho is average. I like this place because it's small and intimate, the staff is friendly and the place is clean. The cane shrimp skewers are delicious as are their spring rolls. Salad rolls are good. I haven't tried any of their vermicelli bowls but was envious of the ones my family members ordered. Have to try their subs one of these days
Love it.. I eat at Pho101 every sunday with my family for lunch. We love it. The service is awesome. The food is good too! My favorites is the filet Pho!! the managers and servers are very nice when our family comes. the deep fried banana with ice cream is DELISH!!! Very decent pho for not being on kingsway!!
I had #32 which was Delish! I bought the red pocket deal. The dessert with the grass jelly and red bean was different and very filling! Lovely place! Will go again.

Go for the banh mi; skip the pho. Went to Pho 101 earlier this year. I ordered the pho Dac Biet (steak, brisket, tendon, tripe, beef ball). My companion ordered the banh mi. My pho came out lukewarm; not sure if it is because we came here an hour before they close, and a warning, they do close really early!! The pho broth tasted diluted and wasn't as flavorful as what it is supposed to. It tasted like beef boullions and doesn't have the rich and intense beef flavor that can only be developed through a long slow simmer. There's a lot of noodles compared to meat so it was a little disappointing.
The banh mi that my companion had, is a completely different story. I absolutely loved the baguette which was nice and chewy with a good crust. At $3.50, the banh mi is a steal of a deal (for burnaby at least). It doesn't compare to the Ba Le or Au Petit but does the job for a quick pho run in burnaby.
This place is so good.. This is the best Pho around my house. Its clean, fast, tastyyyyy and pretty cheap. I don't know what else to say. Everything Ive tried ive been more then happy with. They give you all the fixings too. And the takeout bowls and such are good quality. I recommend the rolls! SO GOOD. Yay for another successful spoon review.
Best Viet place in burnaby. Try the pork chop, rice, and egg pie. Or for those of us who like the real deal, you can still get your side of raw thin slices of beef for your pho' ;-)

Vermicelli is thin rice noodles that are boiled until soft and is usually served semi cold. I was slightly disappointed as the picture in the menu showed a lot more meat on top. I found the meat to carb ratio was not in balance as there was much more vermicelli to the meat. The fish sauce was tasty. They didn't cheap out on the fish sauce and it found a good balance of sugar and lime juice.
This newest go at Pho 101 didn’t really change my good perceptions of this place. I think the organized feel to the interior, combined with the consistent quality of their items (which taste healthier as well) result in a winning combination. I never hesitate to bring a friend here for a casual lunch whenever we’re craving Pho.
On my latest visit, I ordered the large rare steak and beef ball pho ($7.50). The beef wasn’t actually rare, since it came out already sitting in the broth, but despite this, the slices were still tender and not chewy
They are definitely trying to go for a kind of chic feel as the interior uses black and red to be a theme. From afar this looks pretty modern, with all the black and white photos
We held an official Pholicious meeting at Pho 101 in Burnaby back in May. I was still living in Burnaby that time and drove by everyday for weeks in anticipation of the grand opening. It was just blocks away from my old place… walkable distance! The clos
