Had a late lunch at Lakeview with my family from out of town. (13 of us in total)
They were VERY accommodating. The service was 10 times much more polite than any other Chinese restaurant that I had been in. (We don't eat out now because of that)
The food was well proportioned and delicious.
The prompt polite staff added to my liking the place.
We will definitely come back when we have family visiting again.
Thanks Lakeview!
Arghh, I tripped on some pavement yesterday and my knees/hands got all bloody!! And my wound had just healed!! (I tripped last month too.) They don't call me a klutz for nothing. Anyways, for Mother's Day this year I wasn't feeling very well, so instead of going out, we decided to get take out from New Lakeview!! New Lakeview has been my family's go to Cantonese/takeout restaurant for 20 something years! We use to get takeout from here all the time! New Lakeview is known as a more "westernized" Chinese restaurant, but they still serve a ton of authentic Cantonese dishes!! :D
On a separate occasion I ordered some sweet and sour pork + gon chow ngau ho and had a picnic in my backyard...and I got sunburned! So sunburned that my skin started peeling...ouch (being allergic to sunscreen sucks.)
The folks at New Lakeview are super nice, they're always willing to customize orders; but this time they messed up! We ordered lemon chicken, and they gave us braised chicken instead! My mom didn't realize until I pointed it out to her...she thought that it was lemon chicken the whole time! We didn't mind though, the braised chicken turned out to be really yummy!!
I'm just come to the realization that winter break is coming to an end *groans* School starts up on Tuesday and my first class is at 9:30 am... why do I do this to myself?. Oh, and I almost forgot: HAPPY (Belated) NEW YEARS EVERYBODY!! Hope you didn't have too much fun ;). I didn't do much for New Years this year. My dad and I spent the entire evening watching "The Imitation Game" on Netflix. My most eventful New Years was in Vegas ~ I fainted 2 minutes before midnight from all the smoke in the casino and people had to carry me back to my hotel room...
On New Years Day we went to New Lakeview to celebrate because we didn't want to wander too far from home! Mann, going back to New Lakeview was a trip down memory lane!!! I use to go here all the time with my grandparents a few years back. Their sweet and sour pork was my go to, I would order it every time. Yes, I was a diehard S&S Pork fan (still am) and I'm not ashamed to admit it ;)
The place was packed when we arrived, we actually had to wait for a seat! The interior hasn't changed one bit - the furniture, the decor, everything's stayed the same! We were seated at a really cramped table but the waitresses were nice enough to offer us a new table when a spot cleared up.
I love this place. Please try their fried rice, wonton soup, and assorted veggies. You will like them!
Good selection. Not having gone out for Chinese food in a while, we decided to try New Lakeview. The choice was based on a few factors: open late, no-MSG on request, and some dishes on their Menu are not found at many other restaurants. Although other posts on this site had complaints about the service, we found the service attentive and helpful. Then again, we came at 8:30pm on a Sunday -- a less busy time.
The first item was the BBQ duck noodle in soup. Originally we had wanted a duck with noodle dish, but the waitress explained the difference between the noodle dish and the soup dish. We appreciated the explanation as we had wanted a soup anyhow. The duck was well cooked and the portion good (as with everything else offered).
Next was the fried green beans, szechuan style. We had requested this one without the szechuan sauce so we could get the green beans and garlic flavor without the high spice level. Give them points for being accomodating; however the dish itself was a disappointment. The beans were not deep fried, the result being that the beans were crunchy but not crispy.
The vegetable chow main, on the other hand, was above-average. The vegetables were varied and fresh. I requested soft noodles, which may not be everyone's choice, but they had a pleasant, silky texture. As I prefer my dishes not be drenched in soy sauce, they prepared it with gravy instead.
The other dish was the beef with ginger and green onion. The only complaint about this one was the large slices of ginger; we would have preferred it diced. On the whole, there was nothing exceptional about any of our dishes, but the portions were good and they got all our special requests right. The bill including HST came to $39 - not bad considering we had about 2 days worth of take-home leftovers.
Highlights:
-- Good selection
-- Good service, at least when we went there
-- Good portion to price ratio
Shortcomings:
-- Food has it ups and downs
-- The restaurant was a bit chilly, so dress accordingly
Quantity over quality. I'm not saying the food here is bad, the quality is ok. It's just hard to get over how much food is on your plate. It really is too much. Take some to go with you or you'll end up leaving on the verge of a food coma like me.
Love the crab. Went there for the first time about 2 months ago with another couple who have been there in the past. We ordered shrimp wonton soup to start lots of flavour enjoyed it. We then ordered 2 fresh crabs, spicy rock salt prawns, and chicken chow mein. The food came very fast and everything was a 10... I must say this is the best crab Ive tasted in a long time. I was so impressed ive been back 2 more times and will continue. The bill came to $96.00 this included our wine for the table. Highly reccomend this place.
Great Food & Great Prices. We just moved down the block from New Lakeview in the previous summer and were so happy to find a great Chinese place a 5min walk away. We were surprised that at a great cheap price with a 10% discount if you picked up your order, you got a great meal with large helpings! It was amazing and it has got me trying new things :)
Lakeview is a great place for lunch specials. I go at least once a month for their salted fish and chicken fried rice. The lettuce wraps are delish! Waaaaay better tham mr. Hos.
Great Chinese food. Homey style Cantonese food.
Dishes are tasty and well prepared.
Satay beef, and spicy green beans are excellent.
Beef fried rice noodles are excellent, as are chow mein dishes.
Try the dinner for 4 for value.
Family run, excellent value.
I came by for lunch on a weekday and it was packed… most likely due to their lunch specials which run from 11am to 3pm.
