Review Da Mario Restaurant Ltd - Burnaby

Good service, good pasta, good portions, and reasonably priced. Food is very consistent. Haven't had a bad meal yet in over a dozen visits. Their tomato and onion salad is one of the better ones I've had.

A little gem in North Burnaby! Da Mario had been recommended to me, so I thought I'd give it a try. Great prices for very good food. Two of us had veal parmigiana - myself with veggies, my friend with pasta. They were very accommodating with the changes we requested. The veal was very tasty and the veggies were crisp and plain, exactly how I like them. Our other tablemate ordered the steak and a small bocconcini salad, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared a litre of the house red & I ordered a ministrone soup and ravioli with meat sauce the take home to my daughter, both of which she loved. The entire bill (1 salad, 1 soup, 4 entrees, 1 litre vino) came to $124.00 before the tip. I've been in many Italian restaurants with more charming ambiance, but when you take into account the reasonable pricing, the yummy food and the outstanding service, I would highly recommend it and will definitely be returning.

Highly recommend. Great atmosphere the staff are wonderful and the food is amazing. Fresh Italian cuisine at a reasonable price what more could you ask for. Now a regular stop when we're in the area

Food excellent....right from the crunchie bread with balsamic and olive oil, through bocachinno tomato onion salad, on to lamb chops finally landing on to the tiramasu. Even the coffee was good. Little pricey as neither of us had any alcohol, but so good!

It's what you might call "a diamond in the ruff!" The food was superb! Service was excellent. Couldn't ask for anything more. I would 100% go back when the craving for pasta hits. It's honestly that good!!

This is a place you either love or hate. While I love this place, I don't recommended fancy diners to come here as it's a family style restaurant. If you're a first timer here try the pasta, and it's guaranteed that you will not see any greasy American stuff they call food. This place is so authentic that I think I'm the only non-Italian speaker here. =P

Fantastic! This is absulutely the most underrated Italian place in the lower mainland. Forget about the fancy and expensive places downtown. This is the closest you can get to the real traditional home made Italian dishes. Absolutely delicious! Being Italian myself makes me a strict critic. Well, this restaurant not only met my expectations, but exceeded them big time! You want to try a REAL Italian meal? This is definitely the place you have to go! From the apetizer, to the main course, to the dessert. Just, please, do not think to find some cr@p like alfredo or mac&cheese! There is no such thing in the Italian cousine! Buon appetito!

My family had caeser salad, green salad, & caprese salad. They were all really good. We had melt in your mouth lasagna, linguine with seafood, & stuffed veal. We finished the meal with tiramisu & deep fried ice cream. It was all delicious. We will be back again soon.

Love this place! A family with a lot of history running a lovely restaurant that my friends and I get food from quite often. Often a destination we go to when people come in from out of town and are looking for good food.

I have been coming to Marios for years and they have consistently provided wonderful food and always treated me like family. The Chicken Diavola and Chicken Martini are so so tender and the sauces are tasty and delicious! If you enjoy lemon .. try the Divaola and if want a more orange flavor.. the Chicken Martini is your dish . The Caprese salad is simple and perfect in flavor. At Marios everything on the plate makes sense. it's fresh.. its authentic. it real..and its made by a family that truly cares about what they serve you.

Best pasta I have ever had in my life. I always get the gnocchi in meat sauce. Never will go to another pasta place other than here

Food was delicious, waiter was fun, music was enjoyable and not too loud, character ambiance but not overwhelming, prices are good, and we'll be back again soon.

Never coming back again. Ever. "Stu", A reviewer on Zamato said - "Service was extremely rude. We went there wanting to use a coupon and the waiter got mad at us and starting talking to us in a condescending manner." Stu in his posting said he left but I decided to order anyways. I should of left too, too late for that. The portion was small and price was extremely high. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy.

Yummy. Went here for dinner tonight with my boyfriend. I bought a groupon, as my grandmother recommended this restaurant. We had the Caprese salad, minestrone soup and then the lemon veal and a prosciutto and mozzarella veal (not breaded). We thought everything was absolutely delicious. Yes the decor is old, and the food very simple, but we like those kind of places. We liked it so much that Im kinda surprised that this place has all these negative reviews. We will definitely be going back.

Not good. The lasagna is so salty and my daughter commented that the frozen lasagna tasted better than this. I will not return considering how bad the food is.

Will never go again. Service was extremely rude. We went there wanting to use a groupon and the waiter got mad at us and starting talking to us in a condescending manner. We didn't even bother ordering because we felt so unwelcome after spending a few minutes there.

Conclusion: 3 of 5 spoons. .... Conclusion: 3 of 5 spoons.

Yums:
Food was fresh and tasty.
Service was friendly, but slow.
Portion vs. price ratio is good.

Meehs:
A bit older restaurant so nothing posh or fancy.
Gets warm inside when weather is nice.

Review: I probably would never have gone here if not for the groupon deal. Having said that I probably still wouldn't have gone there if not for the affirmation to try it out from my friend. Online reviews are so polarized!

Location was convenient with parking in the back. Decor is old and somewhat rustic. Clearly it's not meant to be high end nor fine dinning, but for the family and neighbour crowd.

Got there at 6:15pm with a few tables already filled. Good sign.

Menu is simple with traditional items. We both ordered pasta because we wanted to be on the "safe" side. I ordered the calamari penne and my friend ordered the smoked salmon penne.

The bread came. It was sourdough with a bowl of soft butter and dish of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Classic.

I enjoy bread. I appreciate fresh bread. I love fresh WARM bread. This was not it. 4 slices of most likely store bought bread. But it was fresh and it's free.

After maybe 20 mins our food finally came. Presentation was sparse. Old oval plate with a parsley on the side. I guess they at least try.

Pasta was good. Al dente done perfectly. Sauce was not water and actually tasted very different between the two dishes. My friend's smoked salmon was very flavorful with the smokey richness of the salmon.

My calamari was at first sight, a big let down because I thought it would be deep fried calamari. However it was unbattered calamari. My bad i should have clarified before ordering. Still it was very good and my sauce had a bit of kick which I always enjoy.

I would recommend giving it a go if you are nearby, but definitely not a "you gotta go try it" place.

Ate there last night a Thursday. We arrived at 6 and were sat at a table right away. Waiter who I also believe is the owner was very friendly and helpful. The wine he recommended was very good. Their wine list is very limited

Food was excellent a little pricy considering the location and decor. Table was wobbly and cutlery very cheap. But we enjoy the food here and keep coming back.

Biggest negative is owner/waiter makes constant jokes and I found a few of them offensive. Best to just serve and keep the comments to himself. Also only one wait staff on so service was very slow.

Will not go back. I tried this restaurant because it was in the entertainment book and i will definitely not go back! Service was average, restaurant needs a major uplift (old chairs, rusty bathroom doors) and most importantly, the food was NOT good. Ordered the hot appetizer of oysters and it tasted like someone cooked the oysters and just dropped some tomato sauce on top (btw it was NOT tangy tomato sauce as claimed in their menu) and then I had spaghetti. you think how can people screw up spaghetti? well they did - the sauce was tasteless and watery!!!! i didn't even want to pack the rest home. t have no idea why people sitting next to me said their dishes were "delicious" maybe they have low standards but after this, I think I should stick to Antons if i am in Burnaby and craving pasta!

Best Italian Food In Burnaby. This is mine & my wife's favorite Italian Restaurant in Burnaby. We've been going for years & have never had a problem. What keeps us going back? It's a small hidden place that is cozy, the food is great & the price is reasonable. It's a perfect little place to take a date. The waiters are friendly but also funny. My favorites meals here are the Rigatoni Calabrese, Pollo Diavola (Devil's Chicken) & the Vitello con funghi (Veal with Mushrooms) For an appy try the mussels & clams in sauce. When you are finished that bread is going to come in handy to dip into that delicious sauce left over. My all time favorite dessert that I've ever had is also here. Gelato Fritto (Deep fried ice cream) It's a small block of ice cream rolled in almonds & quickly fried. The Almond crust with ice cream center is a must try.. I will continue eating there with my wife for quiet romantic dinners! I always recommend this place to friends & they are always happy afterwords that I did.

Small portions, not very tasty. Only went there with an entertainment coupon, and won't be going back.

It's the flavour that keeps us going back.... My wife and I have been to Da Mario for memorable dinners at least a dozen times over the past 4 years and expect no less than the best tasting gnocchi and cannelloni in town; we have never been disappointed.
Da Mario is a hidden gem in the Greater Vancouver area, the best value for a great quality meal. If you can get passed the low key facade, you are bound to experience a "party in the mouth". This is not a high end Italian restaurant with valet parking, maitre d' and ultra hospitable professionally trained servers, instead it is a cozy, authentic and a bit run down of a place with personable serving staff that do their best to make sure you're happy. The owners are the cooks, Italians of course. They managed to not only create fantastic dishes, the quality is superb and very consistent. The tiramisu is not the best in town but it's very good, the caprese salad is really good and their lasagne is top notch. We highly recommend Da Mario. Writing this review makes me hungry...
