Great! I love this place. After going just a few times, owners now remember my name and always puts on a smile every time I get take out, or just eat in! I hate ginger, so they always leave that out of the box after requesting only one time!
Will continue to go back!
Desperately itching for breakfast on the road back to Richmond, we didn't expect much when we decided to stop at Asa Sushi. It was a small little sushi joint that we've only recently discovered, and we weren't aware of what to expect from it. As we entered on the rainy Saturday morning, we were politely greeted by (who seemed to be) the owners. My brother and I were starving - it was difficult to decide what would be the perfect order to satisfy our hunger and cravings. As we continued trying to choose, one of the workers/owners suggested to order the $21 Asa Special, a 38-piece order consisted of 2 California Rolls, 2 Dynamite Rolls, 4 pieces each of Salmon, Ebi, and Tuna Sushi. Our initial thought was that it was overwhelming, however we quickly realized that "we want food!" Having to rush to the skytrain station, we departed as the owners thanked us after they quickly made the sushi. We walked kilometres uphill and down around Burnaby under the pouring rain, whilst chowing on our order. Although it was a lousy (and wet) experience, we were surely surprised by the great quality of the sushi for its reasonable price! From the fish to the rice, everything was fresh and fairly tasty. If it weren't such an awful, strenuous day, we could have enjoyed a faultless meal here at Asa Sushi.
I stop in at Asa Sushi often for take out. It is the best hole in the wall sushi place in Burnaby or New West. The owner operator couple are very friendly and always helpful.
They do cut their sushi and sashimi pieces on the large size but not massive like some of the Korean owned sushi places. To me they make sushi in the "just right" size.
Same thing for the sushi rolls. Perfect size for a big bite that doesn't fall apart in your hands.
I highly recommend this little sushi gem and will definitely be returning.
Great Sushi. Friendly staff and a local Japanese atmosphere. A very small restaurant with limited seating. Usually a wait during weekend evenings. Authentic Japanese made sushi, okay value since the size is abit small but that's the norm for actual Japanese restaurant since each sushi is supposed to fit inside one's mouth in one piece.
Plenty of free parking around on side street and around the back.
We get take out from this place at least once a week...love the avocado and dynamite rolls...the couple who run the place are very friendly and the sushi is consistently good, we highly recommend Asa Sushi
Was surprised to have decent sushi here. I liked how the rolls had a good rice to fish ratio. Pretty fresh and i enjoyed the toro sashimi and cali rolls.
Looking forward to trying the special rolls next time.
Very good for a quick bite. Their food is generally very good and fresh, except for the tuna. Usually, I have to wait 20 min before my tuna is fully defrosted. The wait for dinner can be up to 40 min especially because take out is very popular for this place. The service is very good, the owners are very nice.
They have cheap prices that are aimed towards the students at Burnaby South Secondary, so it's a good place to go for lunch.
Although they are cheap, most of their food is better than the other places along Kingsway
The best sushi value in South Slope. Asa sushi has become our regular sushi spot. This family-run business produces sushi that is consistently very fresh and generous.
The "Asa Special" tray for $22 is enough for 3 average people, or 2 very hungry men.
Their prices are also the lowest around, probably because they have lower rent being off the busy Kingsway strip. Don't be fooled by the prices, though, their quality is better than most on Kingsway.
My favourite part about Asa Sushi in South Burnaby? They give you a little plastic tub of soy sauce to use instead of those horrific little foil like packages of sauce.
There is no end to the number of tiny sushi joints there are in the Lower Mainland. Take, for example, Asa Sushi which is located in a small mini-mall on the corner of Rumble and Royal Oak in Burnaby (the same mini-mall as the Polish bakery BJ Bakery ) and within spitting distance of Makoto .
