Since the coquitlam location open we have not gone to any other sushi place. Party platter is are Goto! Would recommend to anyone!
First time come to here, food and service is excellent. I will recommend my friend to try Nao Sushi.
The best sushi place in coquitlam. Food and service is excellent.
Food and service was excellent. Would recommend to a friend
Foods are very delicious! Service is good!
This place is so nice. The food is sooooo freshhhhh. I love their sashimi
This place has best sushi
In town !! Friendly service and the food is always fresh !!
Great sushi
Great service
So delicious
Lots of tempura with the tempura udon. Love aburi chopped scallop roll too.
So good I even wrote a blog post about it!

Love the crunchy rolls!!!
Nao has been in the area for over 20 years. Their food is very decent quality. Their Saba Battera were well made, not too sour. The Kamameshi was tasty but a bit too mushy. The Toro Aburi were tasty, but I think it was a bit overdone.
I still remember how when Nao sushi first opened, it was the go to Japanese place in Burnaby because it was one of the first Japanese owned restaurants around. I hadn’t been back for a few years because so many places have been popping up around Burnaby since then but Grayson and I decided to give it a revisit a not too long ago.
Kelsey's 'FAS'T review of NAO Sushi:
Food (4/5) - I usually come here with a friend for lunch because we like to share the 'Lobster Sashimi' as well as an appetizer. A whole variety of sashimi, about 6-7 other kinds, are part of the order along with a whole lobster (but only the tail is turned into sashimi, the rest is for display). When finished, the chef takes the remaining lobster and makes it into a miso udon soup - and this is uniquely delicious and a satisfying way to finish the meal. We love the set price for the lobster ($43) which we find more than feeds the both of us.
Ambience (4/5) - the restaurant is casual and clean, with many TVs set in every corner for entertainment.
Service (3/5) - mixed, as some days we get a great waiter who is attentive and well spoken, and other times we have to wave the waiter over for any drink refills or food.
NAO sushi has decent sushi for your cravings with friendly service and a cozy dining environment for families and friends. But what I love most about NAO, is their beef udon. I went on a hunt to find beef udon elsewhere that would surpass NAO'S beef udon and I couldn't find any! Good job NAO, and don't ever change your beef udon recipe! I highly recommend it on cold or rainy days.
Dropped by Nao Sushi on Kingsway for lunch, it was fairly busy but we were able to be seated right away. We ordered the salmon sashimi, the zaru soba combo which comes with tempura, the house roll, two tamago nigiri and a toro nigiri. The zaru soba is really good, the noodles are always so refreshing. The batter on the tempura is light and not too greasy either. They make their tamago in house here, so if you like tamago we would recommend it. All the other sushi dishes were pretty good, nothing to complain about. Something to note, their house rolls are massive so you will be good getting a half order, which is equivalent to ordering a full house roll anywhere else.
Overall the food, prices, and service are very solid. We would come back and we would recommend.
This place has some really good sushi, and they'll sear it for you if you want. I prefer torched, but a quick sear is good too. I had a spicy tuna roll. This was good because they didn't just pour Sriracha on it and call it spicy. It actually had a good sauce. Also had a yam roll. I really liked the mayo they put on it. Went well with the Wasabi and soya sauce too. And of course I got some nigiri. Two salmon and two tuna. All seared. The salmon was great. Melt in your mouth even with a sear. Not so much for the tuna however. Although it was still really good, it got a little rubbery with the sear. I still liked it though. If I'm ever in the area I will come back again.
We normally order the assorted sashimi, spicy scallop roll, spicy salmon sashimi and spider roll here. We also tried the lobster tempura roll, crispy roll, prawn tempura and yakisoba here. The price is very reasonable for the portion here. The food sometimes is hit and miss here but overall, I do enjoy dining here. The restaurant is very busy during dinner time so we normally book reservation when we go with friends. This is authentic Japanese restaurant which is not run by Korean or Chinese.
All time favourite dish here is the lobster sashimi. Although it's probably just because of how they turn the lobster into a miso soup at the end! Service here, depending on who serves you can make your visit amazing or just absolutely horrible. The sushi here is a little more expensive but they have really cool and unique rolls.
Came here today for a sushi lunch with my friends. The food was delicious- great quality and portion. The sashimi combo was very fresh and came with a decent variety! The rolls we tried (Rock 'n' Roll, Vegetable Futomaki) all had lots of unique fillings. The BC combo and Bento Box B that two friends got also made substantial meals.
On the other hand, service was a bit slow.. but understandable being a busy weekend lunch hour.
Food: 4.5/5 | Service: 2.5/5 | Value: 4/5 | Ambiance: 3/5
You asked for it? Couldn't say better myself. This small business although is pack most of time. But their chef skill delivers quality and authentic within metro district evenly match with Isami and tairyou ichiba.
My friends and I ordered take out for dinner, so we could eat at home and did not need to worry about returning a table to other customers and rushing to leave the restaurant.
The price and food were alright. So did the service. I had been here eating dinner before. The environment was not very comfortable. It was packed and the environment was kind of messy. Servers were rushing to clean the tables and bring in the customers. Tables were not completely clean (kind of sticky or greasy). The service was not good when the restaurant was fully of customers.
If you don't mind to just eat and go, this is a good sushi place. However, if you want to spend time with your friends, you better choose somewhere else for your gathering.
This place used to be great, and I used to come all the time. But lately when I visited, I felt the went downhill. The sashimi were very icy, and the sushi rice for all the rolls was too soft and mushed. They did add more rolls to their menu, and it just reminded me of restaurants like Sushi Garden, Sushi Town, Oyama, etc.. But I like how they still have the choice of searing the nigiris, as I used to always order their seared salmon and seared toro sushi. So if you do plan to visit here, I recommend trying out the seared sushi and the Ichi Roll.
NAO Sushi is located on Kingsway in Burnaby. We came in for lunch on Friday and this was my first time visit. The restaurant was extremely packed and busy during lunch time. The food was great; however, service needed improvement. We only waited for 5 minutes for the table but the food came quite slow. I would not mind waiting as long as the dishes were delicious.
The lobster sashimi was awesome!! Super fresh!! And you can add udon as well. Worth trying. I recommended that to several friends already.
The food taste good and sushi is always fresh. Even for a small place people always line up here as service is good. My fave is the spicy tuna sashimi and their crunchy roll.
Good customer service, good portions and fresh sushi! I love the tamago nigiri here as it's delicate and they make it on their own here-super simple dish but i would recommend it. Love that the ingredients are always fresh, friendly atmosphere and the variety of items in the menu.
Their fish is fresh. I always order Tuna sashimi on my to-go order. Last time it was really frozen it literally hurt my tooth when I was biting on it. But most of the time it is good. I don't like their rolls, as rules goes, don't order rolled sushi from Japanese-owned Japanese restaurant. Their sushI is great but they know nothing about making good rolls.. if you want rolled sushi, try Korean or Chinese-owned Japanese restaurant. Price is very good for the portion and quality of the sushi.
This place is always busy and yes, service is ok at best. But I have been to many Japanese restaurants in Vancouver but Nao is one of the best among them. Try Ichi roll:)
My favourite close to home sushi place. Their prices are extremely great but their quality is even more greater! I usually order the "House Tray" which feeds about 3-4 people only for $23 approx. It has a nice mix of different types of sushi rolls and nigiri pieces. I always order takeout because it's always super busy to dine-in. If you're in the South Burnaby area definitely check them out!
Early Family Lunch. Service was fine given that the place was pretty busy. Had the Katsu Don which was pretty good and the Ramen Salad as this was an interesting dish.
If you have never heard of Nao Sushi on Kingsway in Burnaby, you should pay a visit because it is very comparable to Sushi Garden in my opinion. You can also make reservations at Nao Sushi which is a big bonus because who really loves to wait in long line ups? It is not a fancy Japanese restaurant, but it is a pretty standard place to chow down Japanese food. This place offers authentic, high-quality Japanese food...
Good price, good food. One of my favorite places to eat in Burnaby! Service is always good, food comes out quick and I have no problem picking up the tab when I bring some friends here. Have had better sushi before but Nao Sushi definitely is above average in terms of taste and quality.
Good lunch value. This is one of my regular lunch spots. They are one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants around which is what attracts the Japanese patrons from the near by retirement home.
If you go for Friday lunch, reservation is recommended. Some of the dishes may take longer to prepare, be sure to stay away if you are tight on time.
My favourite dish is the Salmon and Tuna Carpaccio.
Great sushi. This is the only restaurant that my kids will eat sushi from (both my kids are very picky and have sharp taste buds). The sashimi and sushi are always fresh and yummy. The service is good.
Good, but not great.. I have already read the ads for the place on KLIP but it was only yesterday I decided to try the place out since the place is quite popular among my circle of friends. After a day at the local con it was only fitting we wrap things up with Japanese food, so off to Nao we go.
After a small waiting period we were greeted by one of the waitstaff in a very jam packed place during dinner hours, we got ourselves a table and noticed how the cutlery was the "Aji Taro" style of cutlery which reminded me of their franchises, but the decor as well as the fresh seafood dwelling inside the water tanks gave me some hope the place will be good. For this special occasion I decided to do a full dinner set, trying out an appetizer, an entree and several sides
Appetizer: Asari Miso: For the price of 3.50 you could upsize your miso soup to one with clams in it, all of the clams were cooked nicely and there was no bad clams in the soup which is a good sign. The miso paste was very rich and well minced which leads to an excellent soup
Sides: Soba Noodles: A large heaping plate of Soba noodles and perhaps the the only thing I found typical, the sauce wasn't savory enough to counter the slippery taste of the noodles and left me stuffed.
Beef Tataki: Nicely seared and enough ponzu sauce and spices to make for a wonderful side dish, the beef tataki I was very satisfied with compared to Kawawa's which not only stale but also rather pathetic in presentation.
BBQ Mackerel: Another mainstay in Japanese cuisine, the Mackerel was moist and tasty and the grated ginger and turnip added flavor to the fish.
Main: Salmon Don: The Salmon Don is generous and hearty, with 9 whopping pieces of Salmon Sashimi and not having to pick off the wasabi that comes with the rice meaning you can fully enjoy the salmon don was a nice change of pace. The rice itself was sweet, sticky and just as plentiful which paired nicely with the sushi although I regret eating it last since by the time I could finish it, I felt the fat already set it which ruined the fish. But that was probably my fault.
Overall I enjoyed my time in Nao but there are some things that shows how this place is designed with both crowds of Japanese Cuisine diners in mind.
The best Japanese sushi restaurant in south Burnaby. Sashimi and sushi are always fresh and they have nice thick cuts.
Solid, consistent and authentic. Kamameshi - worth waiting 20 mins
Same chef as the long gone Sushi House. Like their special small and variety of dishes that they don't have before, next time will try their lobster sashimi!
My mom has always wanted to try Nao Sushi's lobster sashimi and so we finally came here to celebrate her birthday. Between my dad, mom and myself we shared the lobster sashimi, lunch box D, kamameshi with sashimi, and zarusoba sushi combo. In hindsight we definitely ordered too much... the lobster dish actually includes a lobster miso soup which you can choose to add udon to for $2. The fish was fresh, well presented and generously portioned. We left bursting and satisfied.... with plans to return in the future!
I love this place! The sashimi is really fresh and really good! I will definitely come back to this place! Great service as well!
Amazing food! The best hamachi Kama I've had in many sushi places. Service is friendly and okay; typical for sushi places (much better than sushi garden).
Likes it. I go there almost every friday's night and their food qualities were always excellent. Highly recommended
Worth your $$. Fresh, Fresh, & Fresh is all I can say about this place! Great food and the staff are also very attentive & polite! Try their spicy tuna tataki, it is so good!
Worth the price. Nao is able to serve sushi that is on par with some of the best places downtown, and it never fails to disappoint me. It's a little pricy, but it's worth it for the quality. Genuine Japanese owners, and very nice too.
By far the best sushi place, polite, quick and friendly! Reasonable price for really good food.
Good sushi.. I used to come to the previous incarnation (Sushi House) and wanted to see how this one was. Got a table promptly, given some menus, and then left to wait for some people who were late coming. While they did come by to check on us to see if we wanted to order anything, we didn't get asked (or given) any tea or other drinks.
As for the food, it's not as flashy as other places - don't expect giant rolls with crazy sauces. This is more in line with how things used to be before it became the norm. Most of it was good, though the tuna was semi-cold (and really contrasted with the warm rice).
It feels a bit like a throwback to a sushi place from the nineties - older plates, taped-up specials on the wall, old menus, but it can still put out decent food.
This is the best in Burnaby. As a frequent patron of Asian restaurants, it's no big surprise service isn't 10 on 10. But it's still better than an Asian Bubble Tea cafe.
You get a really diverse choice of nigiri, and the portions are generous. The chefs managing the bar are friendly, and they're very adept in their art. Sit at the bar and watch.
Try not to come Thursday or Friday, because the restaurant is packed. The best time is 5-6pm midweek or weekends.
Try their zarusoba and their delicious Mexican roles.
Nice place to go. Went there for lunch on Friday, oh.....extremely busy.
Ordered 2 combos, both were good.
Service was better than average but waited quite a long while for the food to come. Still worth for the wait if you're not in a rush.
I will go there for dinner.
I just want to say that even though I am no longer in Vancouver, my brother ordered some sushi from here and carried it in a cooler with him back to Edmonton for me. :'D Thank you to my brother who let me once again taste a delicious assortment of sushi from this restaurant, which held up remarkably well as overnight leftovers, and then survived a plane ride!
Solid Japanese Restaurant. This is the closest decent Japanese restaurant nearby my office for when I'm having sushi-cravings (24/7)...glad it was not a disapointment when I came in for lunch. Service is definitely lacking, was tough to get ANYONE's attention while waiting at the door, there's no real communication between staff seems like organized chaos which leaves guests unhappy. Sat at the sushi bar and the chefs were pleasant and gave me plenty of attention, noticing when I needed tea refills and called servers over.
The food in my Box C lunch combo was excellent - I really dislike tuna and always make other people eat it when it comes in combos etc but the tuna at Nao was incredible! It was melt-in-your mouth buttery and fresh, no fishy taste at all, it was WAY better than the salmon sashimi, which was your average farmed atlantic found at most sushi joints in town. Dressing on the green salad was delicious, so was the tempura the batter could've been less thick and oily but the vegetables were perfectly crisp. Can't wait to try other menu items next time!
Small portions, high prices. I was expecting Sushi House when I got there, but ended up seeing Nao, so I went in.
Generally, it is busy, so don't think about going there without making a reservation. I ordered a charashi don, and the portion was tiny. Unless you're trying to impress someone, then save your money for some other place.
Go to place for japnese!. Delicious japanese dishes and friendly staff, although the wait time could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 45 minutes but is still worth the wait.
Our go-to sushi restaurant. We love it here. The food is always delicious and whenever we go somewhere else we always feel so disappointed and must return to Nao to get our sushi fix!
Service can be slow at times (especially when they are busy)...but we still love them!
Our Default Japanese Restaurant. We kept on coming back to Nao Sushi. The food is always good. I love their carpaccio -- pieces of tuna, salmon & scallop sashimi on salad with a light dressing.
The down side is that they don't take reservations before 8pm. Good food deserves some waiting time.
Service was definitely slow as people said, but the food is worth the wait. I absolutely loved the tataki and the carpachio, and I can't wait to come back again to try the lobster sashimi it looked amazing!
Pretty good joint.. Three visit summary:
Service generally quick.
Overall food is good and I would recommend, but some improvements could be made for a more authentic meal (what I've experienced while living in Japan).
Sushi & Tempura lunch combo:
Miso soup:run of the mill, all the same in Canada (must be that one restaurant supply chain).
Salad: very good
Tempura-nice & flaky, but often uses old oil (brownish).
Maki Sushi: Sushi rice a tad too sweet and too soft. BC roll had Salmon that was neither crispy, not soft, more like dried canned food, not fresh. Crab roll was ok. Overall the maki sushi should be rolled tighter.
Sushi:
Tamago Sushi- Very fresh & soft, tad too sweet. Side note: Would be wonderful if it were served warm by itself (common in Japan). Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp Nigiri Sushi was good.
Tea: slightly on the watered down side.
Zaru Soba (Cold soba)/sauce: Pretty Good
Quality in general fluctuates, sometimes sushi rice is too sweet, sometimes just right. Sometimes Maki sushi is made sloppily sometimes just right. Sushi fish slice generally thicker than Jp standard but surely no one in Vancouver would mind this.
Overall a well run Japanese restaurant by Japanese.
House roll. The House Roll is packed up with several ingredients including Tuna, Salmon, Tamago (Sweet Egg Omelet), Tobiko (Flying Fish Roe), Fish Cake and Cucumbers.
Honestly i've been going to this place ever since it opened from three tiny tables and sushi bar to how its a full sized menu. I really only eat the sushi and not the cooked food like noodles and etc but food is good!! It is getting more expensive but the owners always say hello when thet see us and its nice to have seen them grow. If you can fork out the money and aren't squemish i highly recommend the lobster sashimi. They cut out the meat and then make this delicious broth with the shells afterwards!!! Yummy!!!
Like it,. It's a nice sushi place, but food overall are a bit salty.
Fresh and delicious take-out rolls and sashimi.
Nao sushi is one of the tastiest sushi joints around. They don't have the variety that some places have, but the quality and freshness is high. I recommend this place.
Same owner as the old sushi house, service is better now compared to when it first opened. My favorite econo sushi restaurant. You won't find monsterous California rolls or palm size sashimi slices here, what you get here is good sushi at fair price
One of very few authentic Japanese sushi restaurants in Burnaby. The standard sushi is good, but where this place really shines is with its various specials and some of the non-sushi items. One of few places to get umeshiso rolls, good uni, and properly prepared grilled squid.
Almost as good as Kura, and far less crowded at dinnertime.
Nao is always awesome. They used to close on Monday, but not anymore. Now they open everyday!! Hurray!! Every penny worth for this tray. Tamago (egg) Nigiri Sushi - $1.00 each - A+ Nao Sushi's tamago sushi is the best!!! Their egg is much bigger than else where!!! It is not just about its size, but also its taste!!! This is the best piece of egg you can ever eat in town!!! A must order from Nao!!!!
Raymond's Sushi Adventures

The Saba Nigiri had just the right amount of salt and had a fatty, juicy interior. The Tuna Nigiri had a thick cut with a toro-like taste. It could use a bit less rice. The Wild Salmon Nigiri was indeed very fresh and had a delicious creamy, sweet flavour. Having never had Tsubagai before (as this is the first time I have ever seen it in a menu), I would remark that it is quite chewy and tastes a lot like geoduck with a distinct, briny flavour.
The Dragon Roll was phenomenal! Definitely the highlight of our meal. The crunchiness of the unagi was an amazing contrast to the creamy avocado. The teriyaki/mayo sauce was the cherry on the top. Appetizer Tempura 4/5 stars The Appetizer Tempura consisted of
Once again, we left Nao satisfied. This is a good neighbourhood gem for those that live in the area.
Very underrated tucked away sushi joint. Love the size of some of the menu items like the house roll. delicious and well priced.
Last we asked, they were still doing discounted takeout orders.
Good variety of choices. Menu with pictures. Tasty sushi! We also had tasty complimentary tea and miso soup.
It is the most authentic Japanese food I have eaten in Vancouver, especially sashimi is always fresh, the service is good, the environment is spacious and bright, I highly recommend this restaurant!
I don’t understand why this place is rated so low!? Friendly service, fresh sashimi on my Chirashi Don, perfectly cooked udon noodle and amazing roll! First time I tried and will be back soon! Thank you guys
Thanks a lot for providing the venue to host my wedding ceremony, it will be an unforgettable memory to me for sure. Staffs are super friendly and helpful, specially thanks to the manager Hank. Being very patient and attentive while explaining and drafting up the menus for the ceremony, not even mention the food is fresh and tasty. Strongly recommended!
