D and I went to Take’s Sushi (pronounced TAH-KAY’S SUSHI), following a long day in the office. With some coworkers, you never want to see them after work, and with others, I don’t mind hanging out. I had never been, and apparently this is one of the best spots for sushi. Turns out that the rolls were amazing! The fish was very fresh, and there was a good ratio of rice to mayo to fish/fillings. I would absolutely return when the cravings for sushi kick in. The appetizers were decent, nothing special, so feel free to pass on those.

While Pokemon Catching, yes I'm one of those people walking all over town to find Pokemon, but not so crazy that I cause myself danger for it, we passed by Take Sushi and decided to grab some takeout. The place was quiet and with AC which was really nice since it was super hot out.
Service - The waitress didn't smile. Stared at me as if I'm odd. Didn't really feel welcomed.
Spicy Scallop Roll - Spicy sauce on top of a spicy scallop roll. Different kind of spicy sauce you usually get at other Japanese restaurants. Didn't really like the flavour.
California Roll - Delicious as usually. Lots crab meat with little amounts of avocado.
Dynamite Roll - Prawn was warmish hot. Probably just finished making them around 5-10minutes and waiting for dinner people to come around.
I been there long time ago and I found it taste better than sushi garden! Udon is nice especially the part about tempera. The sashimi is good too, I love the flavor in the middle of the plate.
We’re big fans of Take Sushi, located on Hastings Street in North Burnaby. I don’t think we’ve ever had anything bad here before.
One of their more popular dishes is the Tuna and Mango Salad mixed with avocado and cucumber. The avocado was perfectly ripe and the sauce really brings out the flavours of the fresh tuna and mango chunks. I actually prefer how they used to serve this on a glass plate instead of a white oval bowl.
We ordered some nigiri to go with our meal: Tamago, Unagi, Toro, and Chopped Scallop… again, all well-prepared.
The Spicy Agedashi Tofu are rather large with a crisp outer layer protecting the tofu on the inside. All of it is covered with their dreamy hot sauce which is more tangy than it is pungently hot.
We were already pretty full before the Nabenyaki Udon arrived but we just had to finish off the silky smooth udon noodles.
And, of course, one of my favourites is the Grilled Salmon Belly. I know it might seem excessively fatty and oily but I figure I spend enough on fish oil pills that I might as well enjoy the salmon belly.
Nice fresh big rolls with not too much rice. Service was good, sushi freshness and portions met our approval. Had to park at the dimsum place to pick up my food as the street was full. Prices were acceptable. I like the taste compared to the sushi places that are a few blocks closer to me (west of TAKE on same side of hastings.)
I really like the way the rice on the outside of the sushi rolls is. It's the right amount for me and tastes good. Tried the spicy tuna and scallop rolls, both great. Yakisoba is a very large portion for the price.
TAKE: Sets a High Standard. I eat at TAKE any time I'm in Burnaby (I miss LIVING in Burnaby, and doing that more often).
Because EVERYTHING at Take is a little bit better. The quality has been excellent always, the atmosphere is just right - and Jason the owner is a friendly classy guy!
Try it - and try the house-special "Take Roll" !!
BEST chicken teriyaki ever. My boyfriend and I are both chicken teriyaki fanatics. It is our favorite Japanese dish to eat!! We ended up going to Take Sushi completely by fluke because we were in the area. We were originally going to get food at a restaurant down the street but they were closed and so we ended up at Take instead. It was the best fluke ever because their chicken teriyaki is one of the best that we've had.
We like our chicken teriyaki crispy and deepfried. Not big fans of using chicken breast and like lots of sauce. Take's chicken teriyaki is deep fried to perfection each time. And the sauce that they use.. is perfectly sweet. It's SOOO GOOD!! You gotta try it!
Good tasty value. One of my pet peeves is sushi pieces that are too big. These guys make it just right. For me, this place has great quality and never disappoints.
Prices are fairly reasonable and the menu does have a lot of options. I decide to keep it simple, I order chicken teriyaki which was very good, it was served on cabbage, would've been nice to have a bit of bean sprouts in there. It came with some tempura which just all tastes the same to me everywhere i go now lol. The dynamite rolls it came with were probably somewhere around slightly above average. I also ordered some tuna nigiri sushi, the tuna was very fresh and had a bit of spicy sauce on it, very good. All washed down with free green tea!!! Mwahaha, next time ill get a beer like usual but I'm a budget lately, Everything above was only $12!
Dependably Delicious. Of all the Sushi spots in North Burnaby, and there are many to choose from, Take Sushi is the one I keep returning to. The food is always fresh and prepared to perfection. Even my kids, who are very picky, seem to love eating here. I particularly enjoy the seafood salad.
My one complaint about this place is the decor. It's not terrible, but long overdue for a fresh paint job and the outdoor signage could be better too. It just doesn't look all that inviting or attractive, but the quality of the meal more than makes up for this.
Enjoyable. WE have enjoyed this place several time over the past year - large portions, reasonable prices, and tasty food. Definitely a go-to place in our neighbourhood when you need a Japanese meal and you're hungry.
Good, fresh food. Very fresh, crispy and non greasy tempura - some of the best I've had around town. Dynamite roll was a bit on the small side, but well made out of good ingredients. Our Udon noodle dish was above average. Service was attentive enough, but the kitchen was a little slow turning out the food. Nigiri sushi was of good quality, but on the small side compared to some other places - not a huge deal because it was good regardless. I will go back.
Very happy.. Twice recently, and once in the past, I have grabbed some take-out sushi from Take Sushi. All three times I have been very happy with the quality of the food. I especially like their Take roll. I could live on it.
I'm looking forward to my next visit to Take Sushi. Yum.
I love sushi!!. This is the best place I have ever had sushi. It is obvious how fresh the ingredients are when you taste them. they adorn the take out containers with ample wasabi, (could be slightly more ginger pehaps, though maybe im a piggy, who knows),
I usually have a spider roll. its very crunchy, large and tasty. even more silky and slurpy is the unagi (bbq eel) either by itself or on rice. My wife gets tofu covered rice sushi which is also quite tasty.
but biting into sashimi like their salmon or tuna is heavenly. its so buttery and tasty. for some extras try some of their gyozas and tempura. its made from scratch and with care so either call ahead or be prepared to chill and wait for it.
TAKE Sets Sushi Standard. My 4 children and I are very fussy about sushi, and TAKE is always our choice. Delighted it showed up here in N. Burnaby 2 years ago!
The food is simply the best - bar none. Jason the proprietor is friendly, knows his craft and plies it consistently. Rice is always perfect, tempura light crisp and tasty, salads crisp and tangy, sauces always jazz (no generic stuff here). Menu is diverse, and it's all good.
Ambience is more than fine - it's not WOW but it's tasteful, roomy and ALWAYS clean. A cut above most other places. It's a NICE place!
Don't put too much stock in the review below by kama - there's a grain of truth in that service staff are only adequate, but you can tell from that review that some whining is going on. I've been to TAKE many times so I know it well; doubt that reviewer has been more than one off night. It's more than alittle irresponsible to review a place based on one visit... Suffice to say that TAKE isn't quite as fast as some cut-rate sushi houses because the chefs take enough time to produce quality. Try it!

The Take Roll is one of their special rolls and it was made with unagi tempura, smoked salmon, avocado and lemon. There was very good balance and harmony among the ingredients. I was able to taste both the salmon and the unagi even though there wasn't an especially large amount of either one. The roll is not large, but very neatly crafted. The addition of mayonnaise inside the roll allowed for a softer and creamier interior, and I also liked the slight crunch contributed by the unagi tempura. An extraordinarily thin slice of lemon was added to the top of each piece which gave the roll an acidic hit.
Take Sushi is a small sushi joint located in Burnaby that is popular with the locals. Each time we come here, it seems to be busy with both dine-in patrons and take-out orders. We’ve had their Tuna and Mango Salad before but wanted to try something different so we ordered their Salmon and Mango Salad
Determined to visit more places close to home after two very successful ventures ( Bosa Foods and Campagnolo Roma ), we decided to give Take Sushi in Burnaby a try. We started off with the Assorted Sashimi Combination , which had Tuna (Toro) and Salmon (Sake), as well as two pieces of Shrimp (Amaebi) , slices of Surf Clam (Hokkigai), te pretty, Red Snapper (Tai) and Octopus (Tako), as well as a curl of Squid (Ika) with some Flying Fish Roe (Tobiko). The presentation was nice enough, and the sashimi pieces weren't so thick as to be off-putting, as I found with the Kita Sushi also close to my place. I would have liked a bit more greenery with my order, but there was plenty of daikon to make up for it. I've never been a fan of cooked scallops, but give me dried (conpoy) or raw, and I'm all over it. So as you can imagine, a Chopped Scallop Roll was in order. What I really liked is how chunky the scallop was. You didn't get the feeling that they were giving you the bits and pieces lefto
Order some takeout from their website today. It was very convenient and easy. It was ready for pick up in 20 mins...pretty quick! The sushi and sashimi were very good and fresh. Prices were reasonable as well.
Ordered via Fantuan delivery which was very prompt, arrived fresh tasting and efficiently in around 35 minutes on a late Saturday evening.
The Fantuan app has very low ratings for this joint, but don't be fooled it's super yummy, delicious infact. If you eat sushi often, you can appreciate this place is definetely a cut above the average sushi joints, very fresh authentic and natural flavorsome tasting and not at all salty. All of it was really yummy, great value and the Yam Tempura Rolls were definetely my favorite!
I love how they provide compostable and environmentally friendly packaging which is awesome!
Support local!
Had the vegetable udon and it was delicious. Perfect noodles, tasty broth, and a nice mix of seasonal vegetables. Service was very nice! Would definitely come back here.
Always consistently amazing food. Best sushi in Vancouver by far. I am a repeat customer. The service is also fantastic. When they once gave me the wrong roll in my takeout they quickly called to let me know and gave me the free replacement. I wish all the best for the people at Take and will continue to enjoy the rolls.
Good sushi spot to fill your craving. Enjoyed their spin of the pressed Aburi sushi 👌
