2018.07.22. Last Sunday, my Chinese Friend and I had Dim Sum at DINESTY Dumpling House. It was my first time having food at this place. It located on Kingsway Burnaby and right across the street from the Asian Market Crystal Mall. The location is very easy to find. We had a great experience eating at this place.
We arrived Dinesty Dumpling House when it just opened 11:00 am. It was not too busy, but there were lots of people in the restaurant already. We quickly found the table and began to order our breakfast.
We had Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings, Steamed Shrimp, scallop & Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Marinated Beef Wraps, and Stir Fried Rice Cake with Pork Chop Shanghai Style. All the food came out of the kitchen one by one. The steamed Pork Soup Dumplings and Steamed Shrimp, scallop & Pork Soup Dumplings were fresh homemade. They were very juicy and tasty. If they are bigger, it will be great. The Pan Fried Marinated Beef Wraps were more like Beijing Duck wraps, were very delicious. My most favorite dish in this meal is Stir Fried Rice Cake with Pork Chop Shanghai Style. Personally, I don’t like Rice Cake, but this dish made me love it. The Pork Chop was tasty and soft. The Rice Cake was soft and easier for me to eat. It was a great combination of meat and rice cake. Great Job! The prices of the food were not expensive too. We spent $36 in total. Excellent services, delicious food, and the great deal. We should definitely go back to this place.
I have been to several Dinesty locations, this one is by far the best in terms of service and atmosphere.
This location was super helpful when inquiring about their food due to allergies unlike the location in Richmond.
Food was fresh, piping hot and presented as expected and super efficient. We had a large variety of food and we were not disappointed.
They take reservations but will only hold your table for 10 minutes. That said, you also don't have to wait long to be seated unlike where some restaurants take your reservation and make you wait as if you didn't have one.
Great soup dumplings. One of the best. Good flavor, good quantity. Their dumplings are very good. I also had beef soup. There is better elsewhere. Good service, price, value, food
The restaurant seemed quite clean the well decorated for an asian restaurant, but I think it's relatively new as well. I tried the Steamed Pork Dumpling, which was very juicy. I also tried the Pan Fried Pork & Shrimp Dumpling, Shanghai Fried Noodles, Pan-Fried Marinated Beef Wrap which was all very tasty. Loved it. However, we also ordered the Sweet & Sour Prawns with pineapple, was good, but a lot of pineapple and not a lot of prawns. The waitresses were a little unfriendly. With their headphones one, I understand that it may be convenient, I felt that they were chatting and laughing with each other, more than trying to serve the customers. Lastly, I wanted to mention that the portions are a little small for the price that I have to pay.
Overall, I liked this place, I would definitely come back and try other stuff on their menu. Liked most dishes, it's just that the prices are a tad steep.
went here with my bestie today. packed with ppl, def make a reservation or be prepared for a wait. thankfully, there was only 2 of us so the wait wasn't too bad. also, we figured out what we wanted while we waited so ordering was super fast. note - if you can't read chinese, it's ok cuz even tho they give the slip to fill out, they can fill it out for you. food came pretty quick, and service was decent. overall great experience.
I actually really like the food here, and although the service is mediocre I can understand it is more just their style. I just don't understand why the servers expect us to know mandarin, like luckily I do, but it's not like I can order in Mandarin. Ahah, but whatever I always like coming here after a day of shopping.
I mentioned previously that I was happy that they opened up a Dinesty Dumpling House in Burnaby… so I figured I’d better make the most of it and come back for a revisit. This time around, we wanted to try some of their other dishes.
For those of you that are on a gluten-free diet, you might want to skip this first dish. Kao Fu with Mushrooms, Peanuts, and Bamboo is basically wheat gluten… I really liked the texture of these gluten pieces. They don’t have much flavour on their own and absorbs the flavours of the sauce.
Next up was the Jellyfish and Cucumbers. I was really hoping this would be better than it was. The jellyfish had a very crunchy texture which was distracting (definitely not squishy). I think I would have preferred if the jellyfish were sliced. Also, the cucumbers could have been cut thinner as well.
The Pan-Fried Pork Buns had a really crispy crunch on the bottom while the top of the buns were pillowy soft. The filling on the inside was similar to the ones you get with the steamed pork buns and were nice and juicy.
You can’t come here and not order their Steamed Pork Buns. Really thin wrappers with an ample amount of soup on the inside.
Went here for lunch on a weekday close to noon. The place is quite full. We got seated quickly, but it took a while to get someone's attention to take our order. The staff was very busy, and they seemed in need of more help. The food was alright, e.g. tasted OK but the dumplings were a little dry. The Richmond locations seem to offer better food.
One thing you guys don't know about me is that I'm a TOTAL homebody/introvert. I'm pretty sure I'm the most grandma-like 20 year old you'll ever meet. While most humans my age spend their free time socializing, drinking (I'm generalizing here) and partaking in the joys of recreational drug use (don't get offended, I have nothing against weed) I would much rather stay at home and pour over a good novel, scour for antiques at a thrift store, or go for some food (solo.)
I rarely meet up with friends outside of school (but that's not to say I don't have friends...harhar.) So on the rare occasion that I do meet up with a friend, it seems like a treat. The other day I went to Dinesty with my friend Julie (hi Julie if you're reading this!) We thought it was pretty funny that we were going to Dinesty, because Julie is Shanghainese/Taiwanese, and Dinesty is a Shanghainese/Taiwanese restaurant!!
Given that I was eating with another person, I thought that it would be a good idea to keep my food consumption to a minimum. So instead of over ordering (like I always do at Dinesty) I only ordered two dishes!! *Pats self on back.*
We visited Dinesty Dumpling House last week and we were more than pleased with each of the dishes we ordered. Of course after eating we discussed each dish and talked about whether we would order them again or not.
Our favourites were the green beans. Super crisp and full of flavour.
The next one that we really liked was the eggplant. Stewed to softness in a sweet chilli sauce. I loved it.
The hot and sour soup was good but our party agreed that the hot and sour soup from Chong Qing further along Kingsway was a superior soup.
The dumplings were also very good. Very plump.
Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Dinesty Dumpling House and are likely to return to dine there again. When we were comparing the food to similar dishes we get at Chong Qing, they were pretty comparable. The big difference between Chong Qing and Dinesty is the feeling of the room. Dinesty has a more formal feel to the room than Chong Qing.
We will return to Dinesty Dumpling House soon.
Our host was raving about this one. Not only did he send me photos as he was trying it for the first time, but he promptly set a date for a return visit, and this was it. He invited myself and a group his friends back today so that we could try a larger portion of the menu. This was the closest location to us, and the newest one. However based on online food reviews, this was the worst between the five locations; Burnaby, Robson street, and three in Richmond. Though we really didn’t notice that.
March 2, 2016 · by ThatShanghaiGirl · I”ve been to Dinesty multiple times, once at the Robson branch which you can read here, and several times at the Richmond branch which I haven’t posted on. Out of the 3, this branch and richmond’s are..
Dinesty Dumpling House recently opened last December across from Metrotown… which is a good thing because there’s a lack of good XLB places in the neighbourhood. Sure, there’s Xu’s in Crystal Mall (which has some of the better XLBs around) – but who wants to fight through that crazy Crystal Mall parkade?
Food was ok, nothing special. Can't remember exactly what we ordered but 2/8 dishes didn't taste that good, either too bland or too salty. The other 6 were tasty.
Service was pretty good. No long waits even though they had a full house
I liked the amount of openness with the kitchen design.
Beware, they don't validate parking even though the complex specifically has a restaurant parking section.
With three locations in Richmond and one in Vancouver, Dinesty Dumpling House has opened its 5th location in Burnaby, on Kingsway across from Metropolis at Metrotown. Dinesty’s feature dish is their legendary “Xiao Long Bao”, or steamed pork soup dumpling. Their soup dumplings are skillfully handmade and feature natural broth, delicate and juicy pork filling, and an ultra-thin hand-kneaded wrapper.
For my Dad's birthday this year, we decided to celebrate at the new Dinesty that just opened across from Crystal Mall!! HAPPY BIRTHDAYYY DAD!!! He turned 59...he's an old man now ;). It's no secret that I'm quite the regular at Dinesty. I'm a sucker for the Din Tai Fung-esque ambiance! DTF it is not, but hey, I'll take it!! I was SUPER excited when I found out they were opening up another location in my old 'hood...I lived 3 minutes away from Crystal Mall for 8 years!! So you know I had to rush down there ASAP as soon as I found out they had opened!! :
The service we received was SO much better than the service at the other locations! Maybe it was due to the fact that I was with my parents? I always seem to get treated better when I'm with them! Nobody takes me seriously because I look like I'm 16...
Now that there's a Dinesty across the street, Shanghai Elan faces some stiff competition! There's another chinese restaurant opening beside Dinesty soon, called Simmer Huang!
Well, I definitely wasn't expecting that! Some friends at work recommended that I head down to the new "Dinesty" as they have had good experiences at other locations.
Tam D and I walked in, waited for less than 5 minutes during a rush for a table, and were treated very well by staff.
We ordered the Shanghai Fried Noodles, the Steamed Chicken XBL (soup bun), and the Pan Fried Beef Dumpling.
The noodles came out in under 5 minutes, and they were delicious! The best Shanghai noodles I've had so far, that's for sure. Large portion which satisfied us both, for $9.95!
The Chicken XBLs were great as well. Tammy was able to use chopsticks, as was I, and we definitely enjoyed them. The broth was flavourful, but not overpowering, and the filling was absolutely delicious.
Not to be outdone by the XBLs, the Pan Fried Dumpling just stole the show for me. Beef stuffed into these beautiful crispy outside pastries, with a softer pastry inside that just melds together with every bite! Oh how I wish I ordered more...
We were both stuffed full, and our bill was surprisingly cheap! $25 including tax and tip!
This is definitely going to be one of our go-to restaurants, as the flavour, price, and service are hard to match in this area.
I have just visited the one in Richmond and now visiting this location - the decor here is not quite as striking but the service is very warm and friendly and the little robot zipping around is very entertaining. 😁
The portions are large, very tasty and plated in an eye catching way.
The scrambled eggs with prawns was delicious, so was the prawn fried rice. The crispy panfried dumplings were rich and interesting to look at when they arrive. Crispy outside, juicy inside! The fish in a spicy garlic sauce was tender and perfectly cooked. The egg and pork dumpling soup was just perfect on a rainy night. The steamed sesame paste buns were the perfect end to a meal.
I have returned twice this week.
Really tasty place for Taiwanese and Shanghai cuisine. Large menu with something for anyone. Only complaint is the poor air conditioning as the place was absolutely baking when we went during the recent heat wave. So, be warned if you go on a very warm day as it may be quite warm inside.
It’s been so long to find a good decent Shanghainese food restaurant. Soup dumplings are exactly. You can treat this as a quick fast food restaurant. Don’t expect too much service.
Pleasantly surprised! Excellent service, modern, clean, and very affordable prices for what you receive. They were out of a few items, but the dishes that we did get were tasty. 3 people came to $50 including tip with high satisfaction. Make sure to try their xiao long bao!
I ordered three dishes of food from Dinesty in Burnaby through Doordash tonight. The service was very efficient. The food was ready in 15 mins. I received text messages that they told me they received the order and when the food was ready for pickup. It was very convenient ordering the food online.
The portion of the spicy beef noodles in soup was quite big. The noodles should have more than 100g. It didn’t look spicy but it was spicy. The smoke tea suck bento box was better than I expected. I liked the side dishes in the bento box. They were eggplants, half of an smoke tea egg and some mah poh tofu as well as the duck and rice at the bottom. The third item I ordered was the Shanghai fried noodles with chicken. The noodles were chewy that was the texture I liked. It was not too greasy. I expected fried noodles should have a lot of oil but the oil they put in this dish didn’t make me feel sick.
Overall the quality was good. Service was excellent. Pricing was reasonable. I would love to order online again and try different dishes next time.
Been a while since we were last here. Looks like they did some renos since our last visit... Plus they also have a robot server which delivers your dishes (sort of).
Of course, the reason to visit this place is their xiao long bao (they have a few varieties). I feel like their dumplings have gotten a bit smaller over time. Not bad but I remember them being better. I do like that they give everyone their own dipping sauce so you don't have to share.
Added a few other dishes like the hot and sour soup, stir-fried vermicelli, and the seafood with veggies. All pretty good.
