I feel like I’m the last person to realize that Kamamarui ramen got a menu revamp! This new change happened a couple of months ago and they now offer sous vide chashu in addition to their traditional style, miso tantan ramen, miso egoma ramen, and maze udon!. Maze udon is a fun addition to the menu and the only place I’ve ever seen it before is at Kokoro Maze soba downtown. If you’ve never had it before you’re missing out. It’s basically dry udon noodles you mix together before you eat it so that all the flavor is packed together…it’s similar to the Korean bibimbap but noodle form.

Lovely rich almost creamy broth with nice chewy noodles, lean char siu pork and creamy soft boiled egg. The soup is not overly salted, and very clean - if you have space after eating the generous portion of noodles, you actually want to drink the super tasty unami packed broth after as it has so much depth. For some, the noodles are on the harder side, but personally I thought they were made with slightly too much kansui, as they left a slight alkaline tang aftertaste. The bombs were flavor packed little punches of rice seasoned with plenty of furikake... it's like eating the best part of a spam masubi.. the thin rice layer coated with savory awesome furikake? Oh yeah. The pics aren't pretty as we had take out and I definitely didnt assemble it as nicely as the resturant could, but thoughtful of them to separate every single ingredient so you can customize your bowl to your liking.

The ramen is pretty tasty, filling, and affordable. Although the ramen is not as amazing as ramen found in downtown Vancouver, I would definitely come back again.

Kamamuri is probably one of the most popular ramen places in Burnaby tucked away near the corner of Royal Oak and Kingsway.

They have a wide selection of ramen and side dishes. So far, we have tried their regular Tonkotsu and dark Tonkotsu ramens and were pleased with their rich and delicious broth. The portion is quite decent and definitely fills our stomach nicely.

The place is quite small and can be stuffy especially when fully occupied. But the food definitely highlights the experience!

Ramen is my favorite part of Autumn (OK..beautiful changing leaves and fresh air are not bad either). My point is that rainy weather calls for soup and noodles. Within walking distance of Metrowtown (even closer to Royal Oak sky train station, it turns out) is a friendly and comfortable little Ramen joint called Kamamarui Ramen and Don. Rough faux concrete walls and wood, it is a lovely place to warm up. I loved the little "dog's rear end" coat hangers at each of the tables! More reasonably priced than the downtown places($10 for your basic bowls) but for my money, just as good. My partner and I had one bowl of Miso and one bowl of Chashu. The only difference was the broth (we both ordered "rich") both of which were very good. Nice chewy noodles, half an egg and a couple of slices of pork, sprouts, nori and green onion. They put a bit of a sear on the pork which made it even more tasty. You can order your Ramen in combo with various sides. We tried the semi famous "Bombs"(plus $2) and the Chicken Karaage (plus $6). The bombs were tasty enough with seaweed and non evident Teriyaki but totally fell apart when you looked at them. The Karaage was very good, tender and crispy little pieces and came with a dipping sauce and a few pieces of dressed lettuce. Service was very good. It started off a little bit on the wrong foot (not worth describing) but staff made a professional effort to correct. A great little place that I wish was in my own neighbourhood!

Came here after a long day of work on Aug 15, 2017. I'm staying at a nearby hotel and overheard the front desk staff recommend this place.

Ordered the chashu ramen with rich broth (no green onions) with chicken karaage combo (extra bean sprouts). Food came quickly and was nice and hot.

Ramen noodles had a great chew and were very tasty. Chashu was delicious (and not like the typical chashu that I was expecting). Thin slices and super tender. My one real complaint was the broth (as some have previously posted). Although it was rich, it was pretty bland tasting. Needed salt or something to jazz it up. There were 3 sauces on the table and none of them really improved the flavour of the soup. That kind of disappointed me. My other complaint was my bean sprouts came with green onions on them (after I ordered my ramen without green onions).

Combo plus extra sprouts (and extra noodles) came to $23 including tax. Fantastic price considering the amount of food you get. Service was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. I left feeling full with a nice warmth in my tummy and would definitely try their miso ramen next time.

This is our favourite ramen place in Burnaby! We always get combo number one with miso chashu ramen and it comes with two bombs (a rice and nori ball). They also happen to have a really delicious pork belly (Buta) don!

The service is always pleasant and for the most part very quick!

Friends and I had a ramen craving and didn't want to venture downtown- so we gave Kamamarui a try. The space is rather small but cozy. Service at Kamamarui was very good, the servers were attentive and I had a full cup of tea all night.  The location was about 5 to 10 minute walk from Royal Oak Skytrain. My friends ended up parking in Safeway across the road, since they grabbed groceries before meeting me for dinner.

The ramen had a lot of slices of pork but only bean sprouts as veggies. I ordered an extra bowl of bamboo shoots and my friends got corn and fried garlic. Flavour-wise the rich broth wasn't as heavy and rich as other ramen shops but it was tasty. The ramen here is good and hits the spot but if you're looking for amazing ramen, going downtown would be your best bet.

Service: they greet you when u come in and out but I noticed they bring the bill and really rush you to pay so that dampens the customer experience
Food: Compared to Jinya, this ramen really hit the spot! It isn't as salty as others and has a really rich boded flavour. Thoroughly enjoyed it! FYI ordered the Tonkotsu for 10 bucks.
Ambiance: its small and a little cramped but the interior is nice and clean.

Kamamarui Ramen & Don is located next to HSBC on Royal Oak and Kingsway. It is not easy to find parking, and it mostly takes 10-20 minutes to get seats.

Chashu Ramen has lot small slices of chashu. It is very tasty.

If you like spicy, then you should try the Chicken Flame Don.

They have variety of combo (ramen & don).

This place is my go-to for ramen in the Lower Mainland. My favourite is the Miso Ramen with the rich ramen broth that has more flavour. The broth is really tasty but not too strong or overpowering. Also, the ramen noodles are perfectly cooked, but you can ask them to cook your noodles longer and shorter if you like them a certain way. Their Twinkle and Wakame salad are really good too (Twinkle is deep fried pork with this sweet and sour sauce and the Wakame salad is this seaweed salad that's a bit sweet and very tasty with your salty ramen).

Kamamarui Ramen still remains as one of my favourite ramen spots in the Lower Mainland. It's tucked away in an unassuming plaza near the busy intersection of Royal Oak and Kingsway so it’s quite the hidden gem. The place is definitely small with limited seating, which is typical for many ramen establishments. Accommodation for larger groups of four or more can be quite difficult on a busy day, so I wouldn’t recommend it!  For those dining alone, they have counter seats at the back.

10/10 would definitely return!

I am not usually a big fan of ramen as I often find the broths too salty at most restaurants. However, my experience at Kamamarui proved me otherwise and I'm open to try more ramen establishments again.

The highlight of my Tonkatsu Ramen was the flavour of the charsu pork itself. It was juicy, full of a roasted flavour, and had the perfect balance of fatty and lean meat. The broth was very refreshing and made great use of the green onion garnish as the flavour actually highlighted the broth.

You are also able to pay additionally to have combo add-ons such as onigiris and mini donburis with your ramen. I decided to order the Twinkle add-on. It was primarily a ground pork croquette ball with a sweet and spicy sauce. I was originally expecting something similar to Sweet and Sour pork, but the texture of the ground pork didn't really go well with the sauce. However, I had a bite of my friend's onigiri add on and it was very yummy. It was for a awesome price too! For $1.50 you can add on two mini onigiris!

This place is so close to home for me and I'm super excited to come back and try their other ramen flavours!

Nothing makes me happier than a big bowl of noodles! Kamamarui is one of those ramen locations that has a very limited menu offering

This is their Chashu ramen (with a soft egg on the side as well as a side order of corn niblets). It’s tough to see the noodles under all of the chashu.

In the picture below, you can see the toothsome noodles after I’ve moved aside the slices of pork. I really enjoy my meals here and the fact that they have various sauces on the table to add more flavour to your bowl.

Check out our previous visit here.

The best pork I have had outside of downtown in Vancouver so far! We arrived around 530pm as we were very hungry. Conveniently the HSBC parking is available after 5pm.

The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived as they only had 2 tables and 1 very attentive super-waitress.

We were served with some appies first as we were told the ramen is being made fresh and will take 40 mins. The salad came with a delicious yet watery and creamy dressing. The fried seaweed rice balls were amazing!! I've never had anything like it! By the time the tonkatsu ramen came, I was pretty full. The cha siu is deceiving because it looks like it's dry but it's really not and has a lot of flavour! The broth could use a little more stewing time but it's still good. I couldn't finish it all though.

Overall I would come back. My BF and I were satisfied overall! And, If you like dogs you'll appreciate the cute coat hooks!

First time eating here and I would definitely recommend this friendly little ramen shop. As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted and the atmosphere was trendy without being cold and "put on". Cool music playing added to the whole experience. The food was delicious and priced reasonably. I got the typical gwailo Chashu Ramen and mixed in the spicy sauce which put it over the top. Two orders of Bomb for the kids at home and I'm a happy man.

This is a nice little ramen place in Burnaby. I went here for dinner around 6pm, so the restaurant was not too busy yet. The interior design and decorations are alright. I liked the design of their wooden chairs and tables.

The service was ok. Once I sat down, a waitress asked what I would like to drink. I ordered some tea. Then I looked at their simple menu. Most of it is text. I expected this ramen place only had ramen, but they also offered donburi. I ordered a miso chasiu ramen. I only waited for a short period of time. The ramen arrived! Yum! The texture of the ramen was great. Chasiu was soft that I liked the sauce that the restaurant marinated the meat. The soup base was great. The portion was small though. If you eat a lot for dinner, you better order extra ramen or side dishes.

I would love to visit this ramen place again and try something else next time.

First of all, the ambiance was great : nice and clean space, amazing music in the background.Me and my friends ordered miso chashu ramen, the bomb and chicken flame don without much expectations. We did not have to wait long and the food was filling with such great price. Would definitely bring my parents next time, especially since i noticed they also have vegetarian options (veggie ramen, the bomb, etc.)

TL; DR: decent ramen joint in South Burnaby. Get the combos with either the don or the bombs and be prepared to wait a little for food after ordering. Would go again!

I usually get the miso chasiu ramen with the bombs. Boyfriend usually gets the tonkatsu with a side of don. Overall ramen is good, I really like sauces they have available. Chasiu isn't done in the traditional way but it's decent. Broth is OK (I'm a huge broth person when it comes to noodles).

The bombs are good fillers, I wasn't blown away by them (no pun intended). The dons were flavourful, I preferred the pork belly don to the beef one. Really hoping to try their spicy chicken on next time!

Service is good, food is a bit of a wait after ordering so be prepared!

[07/29/15] Lately, lots of ramen restaurant have opened in Vancity, but there is one near my area that I never got around to trying… Kamamarui Ramen. My friend Tray really likes this place and always talks about it, so a couple of weeks ago, I decided to go there for a quick lunch. There are many restaurants on Kingsway but Kamamarui Ramen is tucked away off onto Royal Oak Ave. It would be hard to spot unless you planned to go there.

Ordered the combo meal: miso chasu ramen (with a few extra slices of their juicy chasu) and the beef don and a side of their 'bombs' seeing that many tables around us had it. First bite of the bomb and I was pleasantly surprised, the explosion of flavour from the roasted seaweed and teriyaki sauce on the sushi rice after each bite, WOW! No dipping sauce required for these bombs! Getting back to the miso ramen, I enjoyed the miso broth and found it to be packed with rich miso flavour, the ramen was chewy and done just right, the chasu had a great sweet teriyaki flavour to it and the meat just fell off and was very soft. I liked the sauce they added on top of the beef don (a mixture of japanese mayo and teriyaki) sprinkled with peas. I think I will come back to enjoy their cold ramen next! Food: 3.5/5

Good ramen place in Burnaby. Decent ramen and donburi. I like how they put ramen sauce on the table so you adjust the flavor to your liking. Good seared chashu they have, added a great charred flavor to the ramen. LOVE their rice bombs, it is riceball with seaweed, teriyaki sauce and sesame. I go back mainly for these bombs!

I had to say the most impressive/loveable aspect of this place is one of the waiter. He had the most jolliest smile ever, and he laughed a lot too. Very very likeable. even though his english wasn't that great, I'm willing to dine again in this place if that waiter is around.

As a first timer in the restaurant I usually asked a few simple questions, what's the most popular food in here, and which one have the biggest portion? then one of the item crossed my eye on the menu i think it's called rice bomb or something like that without much description on the item I asked the waiter, he first gigle while explaining, and then i remember he said it's very good, then gigle again. and his expression, is very comedic, which brings great atmosphere in the restaurant, so I ordered my ramen, rice bomb, and an extra egg. reviewing the food. the ramen was okay in my opinion, although it's very different from the ramen in downtown. I'll say this ramen joint the broth is slightly more mild in terms of flavor, and the noodle is great, can't complain about that. the rice bomb is a rice rolled togethered with seaweed and black sesame, and some other sesame type of ingredients if i'm not mistaken.

The taste of the rice bomb is something new, but not really a wow factor. the egg is great.overall I'll say the place i'd recommend to try, it's a personal preference i'll say. and so far it's not my personal preference for ramen, but i can see other people liking it.

overall top notch very welcoming waiter, and if I work around the area, i can see that place as my favorite ramen joint.
cheers :)

One of the best ramen i have ever had in Vancouver!!. This is one of the perfect Ramen i had ever had in Vancouver, seriously!! The portion is big, they gave you couple large pieces of chashu with special sauce on it.

The soup base is thick but not too salty, if you prefer more salty they already have their own made ramen sauce ready for you on the table, which i did add a couple small spoons into my Ramen and it gets a bit more salty without changing the original taste of the soup. They also have their own made hot sauce if you like spicy.

The noodle is just perfect too - not too soft not too chewy.

We also ordered the "Twinkle" Side dish, its like mini deep fried pork cutlet with sweet and sour spicy sauce on it(its actually not that spicy!) the texture is very unique, dont know how to describe it but it taste really too!!

We felt so full and complete after the meal, will definitely go back again and highly recommended!!

But i wish they had more tables and Servers haha!!

As good as ramen downtown. I've been here 4 times so far and would keep returning. In my opinion, this ramen is on par with the ones downtown (eg Santouka Ramen). In fact, their meat is better in that it's more tender, the sauce they use is very good, and you get more meat for the same price. The soup it comes in is a tad bit on the bland side, but there is "ramen sauce" on the side which adds a nice flavour. The atmosphere and decor is simple and quirky.

Excellent Quality!. I've been to this restaurant a total of two times but I can't believe I haven't gone more frequently! The restaurant itself is small, cosy, and has a very modern-fusion feel. The restaurant is home to many interesting decorations that make it look very tasteful. It's very clean, and the interior design of the restaurant is great! I love it. Earlier tonight I ordered take-out for two, and wow, the quality of take-out was BRILLIANT! We got the veggie ramen + bomb and a miso ramen + bomb. Both dishes were deliciously seasoned and both my friend and I enjoyed it wholeheartedly! The chefs really take the time to optimize the appearance of your take-out; I really mean it! Even though it was just take-out, it was packed artfully. Please try this restaurant if you love ramen! Their seaweed furikake + rice bombs are the bomb.com.

Kamamazing Bowl of Noodles!. As anyone who knows me knows I love Asian food, especially noodles based dishes. So its actually pretty amazing that I haven't jumped on the ramen bandwagon a lot sooner. This is probably the second bowl of real ramen I've ever had but the first one was in Japan and I eat a ton of pho so I feel I can be a fair judge.

Me and my friend both ordered the same thing. The Chashu ramen and because the waiter recommended them a couple of their rice bombs. I can say without hyperbole that this might have been the best bowl of noodles I've had. The broth was delicious. An absolute explosion of pork flavor with just the right amount of fat on top to give it that perfectly velvety smooth finish. The noodles were ample and perfectly cooked. I love it when noodles have that perfect little chew. In fact i'd say a perfectly cooked ramen noodle might be my favorite little pleasure in this cold and mostly joyless culinary world. In addition to the old broth and noodle the Chashu is served with about six or seven perfectly braised then barbecued pieces of pork belly (I'm pretty sure it was pork belly, I'm writing this review about a month after my meal). These were excellent, with a melt in your mouth texture and a nice char from the barbecue these really helped pull the dish together. So, as you can probably tell I was pretty impressed by this bowl o noodles.

I didn't really know what to expect from the rice bombs. Truth be told I was pleasantly surprised. These are essentially just heavily umami flavored onigiri. Not a lot to say but they were great and i'll get them again next time i'm there.

The service was quick and pleasant so no complaints there. it was dead when we showed up though so who knows what happens on a busy night. So I guess that's pretty much all I have to say about Kamamarui. I'll be back for sure.

Decent ramen that satisfies cravings without travelling downtown.. The last time I was here, it was not that great. Everything just seemed subpar. However, today's visit was a million times better! I think they read the reviews on here and took them to heart because they've seemed to improve on everything.

I had the Tonkotsu ramen and it was awesome! The broth was rich and milky and full of porky collagen flavour. The noodles were perfectly al dente. The chasu was tender, lean and a smokey, roasted flavour. Perfection.

My boyfriend had the miso ramen and it was alright. Not as good as the Tonkotsu, but still pretty good. The broth was clean tasting with a pronounced porky flavour. The miso taste was a bit weak, but it was enhanced a little bit adding the spicy sauce given to each table.

He also had the flaming chicken donburi and it was AMAZING! The rice was perfectly cooked to begin with, but the highlight was the chicken. It was perfectly cooked and still juicy. The sauce was just spicy enough and had a slow, rumbling heat that gets better as you eat. It was smokey and spicy and perfect!

The bomb onigiri was just that: the bomb! So awesome! Not as heavy as it used to be and that's a good thing because before they were way too compact and sticky that it ate like an entire meal. This time, they were loosely formed, but still intact. The flavours were on point. I would come back just for these.

Will come back. I live around the area and know about the history of the location. Since the incident, I've passed it many times, but the new Kamamarui Ramen restaurant didn't have any particularly eye-catching banners or posters to make me want to eat there.

I love ramen, but going all the way downtown sometimes isn't the option, so I was hunting for ramen joints around Metrotown. This came up and had 93% likes on Urbanspoon, so I decided to give it a try. I got the miso ramen with bomb for $10.50. The ramen soup was a bit light for my taste, so I added the ramen sauce and spicy sauce that they provide. My friend got the tonkotsu ramen with bomb for $10.50 as well. His tonkotsu soup was even lighter than my miso soup. The ramen comes with two slices of pork (cha shu), but if you want more, you can order the miso cha shu ramen or the tonkotsu cha shu ramen for extra charge, which has a total of four slices. Compared to other ramen places I've been to, the portion was a tad smaller. It didn't fill me up, but good thing there were the bombs.

The bombs are actually rice balls with sesame, seaweed, and teriyaki sauce. If you order the combo, you get two bombs for only $1.50 more. If you order a side order, it's $3.00 for two bombs. The bombs were very tasty and because they were basically two balls of mainly rice, it filled me up after the ramen.

Overall, the staff were very nice and the food came very quickly. During my time there, there were three other tables of customers, and most of them seemed like regulars. I would definitely come back if I wanted ramen but was too lazy to go downtown. I've heard about the waits, but I went on a Tuesday at noon and there wasn't a lineup.

Tried the 'Tonkotsu Ramen' + 'bomb'. I usually don't like ramen, but both were very tasty, especially w/ their hot sauce (which kind of tastes like kimchi?). Their broth is homemade and MSG free.

Really clean and modern decor w/ cute dog butt coat hangers. Menus are pinned to the wall by each table. Their chopsticks are made of bamboo and look very nice for disposable ones. Our guest from out of town wanted to take it as a souvenir, so they gave new ones instead. Very friendly staff!

Great Ramen Outside of DT. This is a great addition to the neighbourhood. Great ambiance and service.

There's only one type of Ramen that they serve, and it does not matter if you order the spicy one or the normal one. All the sauce is on the side which can be added at the customer's will which results in a broth that is not overly salted. The rice bomb from the combo is also delicious.

Looking forward to my next trip already!

Great addition to the neighborhood. The noodle quality is decent and the soup has good flavor but quite light. They do give you some sauce to kick it up a notch if you like. The pork is nicely charred and fairly tender.

Great Food & Excellent Service!. I went to Kamamarui Ramen & Sushi for the first time last weekend and absolutely loved their tonkatsu ramen. Their sushi rolls were very good and reasonably priced. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating which was an added bonus. :)

I highly recommend this place and will definitely go back to try other menu items!

Tl;dr = Unexpectedly nice interior, very good ramen, and warm service.

Atmosphere.
From the outside, the ramen shop looks pretty unremarkable. Inside, though, is pretty nice. Wooden floors, wooden cube-shaped tables and chairs, white pebbles lining the edges of the restaurant space a la Japanese garden. Felt quite spacious. There are only 4 tables.
Music could have been a little softer. It was a mix of Japanese bossa nova and Norah Jones type music, both of which I enjoyed. It's more of a cafe/bistro atmosphere than a ramen shop. Washroom is pretty cute, inside and outside (chalk art on back of door etc).

Food.
TONKOTSU RAMEN --- The noodles were appropriately al dente, just like how the ramen giants (Santouka, Ippudo, etc) do it. Chashu was good - flavorful and soft but doesn't completely crumble in your chopsticks.

What I loved was how the broth was presented. As much as I like ramen at the famous ramen shops, it's so salty/sodiumy (e.g. Jinya). You have to chug a lot of water during and after to offset the sodium in the soup. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it's just how authentic Japanese ramen is.

BUT at Kamamarui, the soup was not salty. Yes, it was fatty and had appropriate amount of pork fat floating in it (sign that the broth was prepared correctly), but nothing thirst-inducing. All the additional salty/spicy seasoning was served separately - i.e. optional. This kind of tells me that they are pretty confident in the raw flavor of the broth. It was really good.

BUTA DON --- So this is grilled pork on rice, with scallions and nori shreds on top. It tasted good, but it looks like they pre-cooked the pork and microwaved it. I think it would have been better if they at least re-fried it a little bit so it comes out piping hot.

MISO SOUP --- This was surprisingly good. Usually I judge a Japanese joint first by the quality of its miso soups, and this place gets 9/10.

Service.
The young guy who was the waiter/cook explained to us and another party that this was a Korean-operated place and that he learned how to make ramen from his uncle. Very eager and friendly guy. Good service.

Will return, and next time I will order the Bomb (saw others getting them; looked good).

I've been here twice now and the second time was just as good, if not better, than the first time. The tonkatsu ramen is flavourful - noodles cooked al dente and the char sui ( pork) falls apart easily and melts in your mouth. They provide little bowls of hot sauce and ramen soy on the side so you can adjust the ramen to your taste. $8.50 for ramen only, or $10 for a combo which comes with rice seaweed balls (bomb). The nigiri unagi was delectable! Whatever they use to season it and however they grill it should not be changed. The spicy salmon roll was also good in taste and size for $3. Be sure to come hungry so you can try lots! I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Nice Ambiance!. I thought I went into a spa. Lol.. anyway, this Korean operated ramen place has only 2 types of ramen. Regular, or Spicy. I tried regular and the soup was pretty good. The noodle however was overly soggy for my liking. The pork quality was good and portion was generous.

It's pretty empty during lunch. Only 1 free parking spot available at rear (others are HSBC's), but you can park on Kingsway at the meters.

...decided that a hot big bowl of ramen would be perfect on a chilly winter evening. The Bomb - $3 This came as a combo with our ramen, and it was basically seasoned rice balls with pieces of seaweed and teriyaki sauce. The chef also took a blowtorch to brown the outside. It was packed with a lot of Asian flavours (sesame, seaweed, soy sauce..), and was quite good.  Mikel’s Rating: 7/10 Phoebe’s Rating: 9/10 Prawn Tempura (4pcs) - $6 These came out piping hot and crispy. I have no complaints about them. I mean, it’s prawn tempura – what is there not to like?

I want to start out by writing that I was always on the edge about eating ramen.  There are several noteworthy reasons:  1) the amount of meat and noodles given are not suffice to satisfy my stomach, 2) the broth in general is too salty for my liking to the point where I would be constantly reaching for my glass of water, 3) I cannot justify the price based on the small proportions, and 4) it is always considerably hot and unventilated at many of the ramen restaurants, leaving me in a pool of sweat! Now, I recently visited an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant called “Kamamarui Ramen & Don” which is in Burnaby.  Surprisingly, it has changed my outlook on ramen!  The establishment is definitely a hidden gem...We were both exceedingly amazed by how authentic this ramen place was and the delicacy of the dish took me by surprise.  This place has my taste buds buzzing for more.

I used to come to this area a lot and it changed quite a bit. A lot of their customers came alone for a Saturday lunch. The seats were very uncomfortable. A cushion or a futon would help a lot! I understand this is suppose to be fast food. I thought this place was famous for ramen but the rice dishes were way better. I would not mind going back from them! Maybe I would try miso ramen next time. I don't think their tonkotsu ramen is anything close to those on Robson yet.

Yesterday I had a INTENSE craving for ramen LOL. The pain was so real. What was I going to do? I was stuck in Burnaby. Was I going to resort to eating at Kawawa ramen in Metrotown? Nu. Ramen cravings deserve real ramen. So I braved the rain and trekked all the way to Royal Oak for some delicious bellay warming noodles!!

For non-downtown ramen, Kamamarui is pretty solid.

Kamamarui easily rivals the downtown ramen joints, and if you're in Burnaby, is the best ramen I've had so far. Good food, good quality, decent prices to match. Will definitely be back again :)

There’s a new ramen place close to Royal Oak station called Kamamarui Ramen Sushi. It looks really fancy from the outside, very inviting. The inside was even more surprising though, the best word to describe it will be… empty!? Ok, I’ll try to be more sophisticated here: the inside felt…very Zen like, with dim lights, pebbles rocks on the floor circling the entire space, and slow classic background song! I actually like the ambiance a lot.   Don’t expect to find an authentic Japanese ramen place, they offer Korean version of Japanese ramen. They only have 1 type of ramen, tonkatsu. I ordered the spicy, my friend ordered the regular, but it is pretty much the same thing because the hot sauce comes on the side. I like their ramen version. I had low expectation and the bowl surprisingly had very pleasant flavour. The broth was unmistakable tonkatsu (pork broth), the noodle was a little similar to Kintaro Ramen’s noodle, and we got 2 huge pieces of pork meat (it is on the lean side though)

Hey Everyone, I was getting my car serviced in the Imperial Kingsway area and my buddie was free for lunch, so he suggested going to Kamamarui as he has heard good things about this place. We decided to try it out as we both love ramen! This place is on Royal Oak and has their own parking lot beside it. It's pretty small and the exterior appearance isn't anything spectacular. The inside is quite interesting though, as you will see in the photos below. There's a ring of rocks that run around the restaurant, the seating is funky, there's a funny drawing on the chalkboard showing you where the washroom is, and there are half-torso dogs on the wall for coat hangers. Yes...those are coat hangers! The menu is as follows (excuse the poor quality photo, didn't notice it was blurry at the time) An interesting item here is the "Bomb", which I had to try after hearing the description. Here's what the cup of tea looks like =] For the sake of the blog, I ordered their top combo of Miso Chashu Ramen + Bomb $13.   The workers are Korean, so this is not a Japanese run ramen shop. However, they cook up a very delicious ramen! This was very flavourful, the chashu was tender and well flavoured as you can see, and the broth was very delicious and satisfying. One thing to note however, was that there were no bamboo shoots, which I normally find in ramen. I didn't add any extra toppings so this is exactly what you'd get if you ordered this dish. They give you a generous amount of chashu which is much appreciated! Here are the sauce options on the side: Now onto the BOMB! It's basically a ball of a mixture of sushi rice with what looks like black sticky rice and seaweed, fried up and topped with sesame, seaweed, and some seasoning. Being a rice ball, it was quite dry, but the flavour is very good! There's no need to dip any sauce with this as it is totally fine on its own. The various ingredients used here make for a very tasty snack. It's slightly salty but the dominant flavour here is t

Overall, great service! Our server was very attentive and looks at you on eve-level when taking down our order. Checked up on us regularly. The food here is pretty decent, a pretty good ramen place that’s not in downtown. In fact, there’s more of these places now. The ramen to bean sprouts ratio is even. I would recommend this place for ramen if you live or are in the area.

When you order a bowl of ramen at Kamamarui, you are offered the option of creating a combo with one of the appetizers or side dishes at a marginal discount. I opted for the “Bomb” for $1.50. This is almost like a deconstructed onigiri, but the rice has been formed into a ball with seasoned seaweed and teriyaki sauce. It’s deceptively simple and a great accompaniment to the bowl of noodles.

BEST RAMEN SHOP! Extremely affordable and lots of options to customize your ramen bowl. Honestly the broth is the best part about it. Staff here is really friendly and nice. Been here a bunch of times with my friends and can say all their appetizers are delicious. Also they give you reheat instructions when you have to take some of it home with you. It tastes just as good reheated.

The noodles were thin and had a bit of bite. Broth was not too salty, which we preferred. It was the perfect ramen for me. In contrast, mini-don was more salty and sweet, but it was still tasty. The combo with mini-don was filling and satisfying. Double carb combo was a guilty pleasure. I got a bite of karaage, it was thinly battered and juicy. Service was very good. The restaurant was moderately busy, but the staff still provided frequent tea refills. Cleanliness can be improved. Table top was bit sticky. Otherwise I would've given 5 stars.

First time trying out this ramen place. Ramen comparable to other places that we’ve been to. We have a family member who has a nut allergy and this is one of the ramen places where there menu broth does not have any nut ingredients. That is a deciding factor for us and will definitely come back. Friendly staff as well!

I've finally decided to try Kamamarui - one of the few sought-after ramen places in Vancouver. I visited the restaurant around 3pm, and about half of the tables was empty. Tables were clean, sanitized and the server was kind and prompt. I decided to get a Tonkotsu with rich broth and grilled chashu. I ordered 2 bombs (Onigiri rice balls pretty much) as a combo. The food came out in a few minutes and was told to try their ramen sauce and spicy sauce/chilli sauce to my likings. This restaurant also offers free garlic which goes well with rich broth. Kamamarui here offers a great, thick and rich broth which I really like. This place is really legit if you like such broth. My wife doesn't like rich broth as she prefers the clean/light and non-greasy broth. I'll try the normal broth next time to see if I can bring her next time. Although the two little onigiris I've ordered tasted okay, I wouldn't order them on my next visit as the portion was pretty small. I'll probably go for extra noodle or a bowl of rice instead. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and will definitely come back again to try their miso along with other variations.

Found this place when i was walking back from Metrotown, and i do not regret it. Its a ramen restaurant with of course some appetizers and drinks, but the main reason you go here is for ramen. They have a lot of options for the ramen, and if you want you can add extra of whatever you would like. The portion is HUGE and very filling and it tastes delicious. The only con is that there is little soup and a load of noodles, other than that, this place is easily a 5-star.

Good food and good customer service! You can get a combo with the ramen which will come with a side at a discounted price. The menu itself is scanned with a QR code but you order with a waiter. The food also comes quite fast and portions are quite large as well. Do note that there's also a Marutama ramen just beside, but honestly the line up here is shorter and the quality of food is definitely up to par with them.

There are many ramen restaurants in Metrotown area that come and go, but this is the place that lasts. I've been coming to this place since I moved to this neighborhood 5 years ago. The quality has always been great. My favorite is their veggie noodle, not only yummy, but also great value. In my opinion, this place beats all the other hyped up ramen restaurants!

Great little ramen place tucked away. The bomb was great, a must get as an appetizer. Ordered the vegetable ramen and the chashu ramen. The vegetable was okay, broth was not rich enough. The pork based broth was great and tasted better than most in the city. Would recommend to anyone.
