Review La Foret Bakery & Coffee - Burnaby

Beautifully set up brunch spot! The aesthetics are top class. The food was good but I though it was too pricey for what was served. The 5 different types of sausages in my $22 platter, seemed like the run of the mill deli type. The Spanish latte was very good, the waffles chewy and nice. I might go back for the vibe, but will try out something other than the platter. I also found the plate size to be on the smaller side, so it was hard to get to the salad without dropping a bit on the table.

Beautiful and aesthetic place to hang with friends and family to eat some fun food! We ordered double chocolate pastry, chicken sandwich, chocolate and banana waffle and chicken with fires. Everything tasted delicious l, loved the fluffy waffle and chocolate pastry one of the best I've had around the city. The place is very spacious and beautiful and kids absolutely love it.

The Good: - first time coming here so wasn't sure what to expect. It looks like small place from the front, so I was pleasantly surprised to see how big it is when I walked in. Easily could sit a 100+ people as the pics will show. So no problem getting a table for 4 on a Sunday morning brunch time (I arrived at 9am; left around 11am and still plenty of room). - place is clean and at no time did I see dirty dishes and plates left about. That said, I cleaned up after myself when I was done. - food comes quick. You get a buzzer with your order so that you can sit down and not stand around waiting. Ordered two 'platters' for 3 of us. The Bad: - "platters" are smaller than a normal breakfast plate at Denny's or Cora's, which are similarly priced (low $20s). The Ugly: - Coffee is $3 for a regular size cup but is NOT refillable so I had to nurse my one cup of coffee; supplemented by cups of water.

This was the first time we visit this place and we liked it. The entire design was quite modern with very high ceiling. The menu was has a reasonable wide selection of items that could meet the expectations from all kinds of people whether you are a meat lover, vegan, vegetarian, or on a more restricted diet temporarily. Food came out rather quickly and the service was good too. The inside was kept clean and tidy. The only down side is that they don’t have a lot of parking space compare to the number of tables they have.

Lovely spot with amazing conception! So spacious with high ceiling and skylights where natural lighting, a nice mini-tropical forest in the centre of the space, plenty of seating options including a concrete bench, modern decor, wide food and beverage options. Tried the chicken and waffles. Looks amazing! Chicken was tasty and cut into handy bitesize pieces. Waffles also were delicious. On the other hand, it’s pricey :( The LONG waiting time could upset you though. Looking forward to seeing more locations.

The food surprised my expectations and the menu was quite unique. I enjoyed the bulgogi sandwich on squid ink bread and we also got the chicken platter. The vanilla lavender drink was really good. The natural lighting and all the plants made this a nice place to visit, hangout and take pictures. I wish I could try some of the cakes.

I visited this cafe many times. Finally I am writing a review about it. The layout remains the same but they have moved the bread and buns in individual packing to the front of the cafe. When customers come in and lineup for food/payment, they can grab the bread and buns right away. The lineup was not too long. It usually depends on when you go. Menus are on their website or they have paper menus at the cashier, so customers can look at them while waiting in line. I ordered the bacon and waffle platter, a regular latte and a matcha latte. All of them were good. They have many varieties in terms of coffee beverage, breakfast, desserts, and etc. Customers must be able to find something to eat or order from their menus. Once the food was ordered, I got a small vibrating machine. It would vibrate when the food was ready for pickup. I could go find a table first. The cafe has changed to use wooden cutlery instead of plastic. It’s better and more environmental friend. However, it was hard to use the wooden fork to pick up food from the plate. I must use a spoon or knife to help at the same time. It was funny. A sign at the cafe would tell customers that if we ordered food, we could stay for two hours. If we ordered a beverage only, we could only stay for an hour. That makes sense, so customers can’t just sit at a table for hours especially ones who bring laptops or work to the cafe. Would I recommend this cafe to others? Yes! It’s such a popular restaurant in Burnaby now. Lots of street parking in the residential area.

A very recommended place to get some sweets and hang out with friends.. Great waffles 🧇 and smoothies. They used great quality of fruits which I like so much 🍓🫐 . The waffle portion is pretty big, enough for 2 people The ambience was great as well ❤

I like the ambience of this place. It reminds you of the cafes in LA, spacious with high ceiling, plants that brighten up your day. It’s a great hangout area for friends and family. I wish they have something like this in Vancouver area. Their combination of Korean savoury menus went well with the French pastries. I loved their spicy bulgogi in squid ink bread sandwich.

Cute and Instagram-worthy cafe that used to be a garage. The interior is very pretty and modern.

I like to come for brunch because of their breakfast platters. These are good to share between 2 people. Usually comes with a salad, potatoes, toast, 2 eggs cooked your way + a main (you choose). These platters are roughly $13-18. Tried their pear sandwich but it's not as good as Finch's.

I recommend having coffee meet-ups, brunch with your girlfriends or maybe a casual study meeting (where you don't need quiet to study) at La Foret.

More pics and full review on the blog:

La Foret is one of those places where I seem to be the last person on earth (or at least in my network) to try. I’ve heard great things about La Foret and while looking for a new place to try, the fiance and I finally came here. La Foret is located close to Metrotown, inconspicuously disguised as a garage. You wouldn’t expect it to be a popular, bustling cafe with Korean influences from the outside.

Nice spot for coffee and dessert. It is usually very busy but there is a lot of seating inside. Coffee is nice and strong. We’ll come back if in the area.

It’s always been on my list to try La Foret but for whatever reason I never did. When I took Mama Lam out shopping at Metrotown one weekend, I decided to take her there first. Even though La Foret’s menu isn’t all that original but they do introduce their own take on it (e.g. squid ink waffle). Overall I quite enjoyed the food and I thought it’s a nice spot for brunch.

What a picturesque cafe. Lovely ambience and setting, good coffee too. The only reason I give it 3 stars is that it sells itself as a place where you can work, but they don’t have very many charging spots!

After the quick shopping at Metrotown on Saturday morning, my friend took me to LA Foret to have some snacks. It was my first time at this place. We had such a great time there.

Location: LA Foret is located between Royal Oak and Metrotown Skytrain stations. Because of the location, it was always very busy and difficult to park the car. There is only a few spots in the front and a couple at the back. Since we arrived early, we found a spot at the back. My friend told me that she had to park a few blocks away sometimes when she visited this place.

La Foret is a restaurant, patisserie, and cafe. It has a huge space inside. About 84 seats inside the cafe. Since Foret means forest in French, it has used trees and plants surrounds the space. Walking inside the restaurant, you will have a totally different feeling.

Since it’s still early, my friend and I only ordered one Green Tea Waffle and two small slides cakes to share. The Green Tea Waffle was made by fresh kiwi, strawberry, green tea ice cream, walnuts, green tea sauce and house-made whipped cream. The Waffle was freshly made. Large portion. The taste of the waffle was very delicious. Sweet Strawberry. Sour Kiwi and strong taste of the green tea flavor. Awesome choice. The price is a little bit expensive, which is around $14. The double chocolate cake is $7 per piece. The price is expensive. It has consisted of layers of chocolate cake sandwiching chocolate mousse and was covered in a layer of shiny chocolate frosting. The cake was very nice not too sweet. Love it. Earl Grey Mousse Cake $7.5 per piece. The price is more expensive than a double chocolate cake. The earl grey flavor is my favorite. Service: The servers at La Foret were nice and friendly. They were all knowledgeable about their products. If this is your first time, they will give you detail explanation about all their products.

In summary, I found nice and comfortable to have food at La Foret and enjoy its eco-system environment. Highly Recommend people.

This is an Asian-Western fusion style bakery/cafe that’s located a few blocks away from the Metrotown Skytrain station. In addition to pastries and sandwiches, they have a large display of very pretty cakes. During my visit, I purchased an assortment of their cakes (Hazelnut Cream, Earl Grey Mousse, Matcha Roll, Oreo Cheesecake, Double Chocolate, and Matcha Cream), Pizza Bread, and an Almond Croissant for my mom. The cakes weren’t spectacular, but were still quite good in general. I did find their prices to be a tad on the higher side, though not outrageous. While I’m not crazy about this place, I think it’s worth visiting if you’re near Metrotown.

Hazelnut Cream Cake ($7):
3/5
This consisted of coffee flavoured cake sandwiching cream, and was coated some sort of hazelnut-flavoured icing. The cake itself was quite soft and moist; I did find the cream to be a bit greasy in texture. I was not a fan of the coating outside; although it did have a nice fragrance of hazelnut, it was also quite bland and had a weird gummy texture that I did not really care fo.

Earl Grey Mousse Cake ($7.50):
4/5
This was a dome of Earl Grey flavoured mousse sitting on a thin layer of plain sponge cake, and is decorated by a ring of whipped cream. The mousse was smooth and light, and was mildly sweet with a great flavour of Earl Grey. The cream was also fresh and light, with a nice sweetness.

Mocha Roll ($7):
4/5
This consisted of a coffee sponge cake that's filled with coffee-flavoured cream. The cake was incredibly tender and moist and had a great fragrance. The mousse was light, had a great coffee flavour, as well as a nice bit of bitterness.

Double Chocolate Cake ($7):
4/5
This consisted of layers of chocolate cake sandwiching chocolate mousse, and was coverd in a layer of shiny chocolate frosting. The cake was very tender and moist, while the mousse was lucious and the surrounding coating of chocolate had a nice sweetness as well as cocoa flavour.

Oreo Cheesecake ($7):
4/5
This consisted of a cookies and cream flavoured cheesecake sitting on top of a thin layer of cake, and was decorated by miniature Oreo cookies. Although the cheesecake filling was quite soft, more like a mousse than a cheesecake, it was still creamy and quite tasty. The Oreo cookies had unfortunately gone soft, although they still did have a nice cookies and cream flavour.

Matcha Cream Cake ($7):
3.5/5
This consisted of layers of matcha flavoured cake sandwiching cream, and was coated in a layer of matcha-flavoured frosting. The cake itself was quite moist and tender, and had a mild green tea flavour. I don't know what the style of frosting they use is called; although it does look pretty and glossy, it had quite a gummy texture that I personally did not care for. It did have a nice matcha fragrance however.

Pizza Bread ($3.50):
3.5/5
This was filled with onions and corn, and seemed to also contain some mayo and/or cheese as well as ketchup on top. Funny fact: I didn't realise that the bread was enclosed in a cupcake liner and actually took a big bite out of the wrapper and was wondering why it tasted so grainy in some parts. Once I got the wrapper off, I found the bread was savory, fluffy and quite buttery. I quite enjoyed the fragrance from the onion. This was certainly tasty, though I don't think it's much better than the typical savoury bread you can get from Chinese/Asian style bakeries for a lesser price.

Almond Croissant ($4.25):
N/A
My mom had this. She quite enjoyed it.

Summary:
Food: 4/5
Price: 3/5
Service: N/A
Overall: 3.5/5
Recommendations: Most of the cakes, Almond Croissant

This place has much bigger than I thought! It is a very nice place to chill. They also have quite a huge selection for cakes.

I ordered a green tea latte. However, I am not impressed by the drink; it is way too sweet and the latte isn't taste that fresh.

We also ordered a earl grey roll cake, a waffle with mango ice cream, a korean style shaved ice and a spicy chicken sandwich. Food in general is okay with no surprise and a bit overpriced.

8/10 May 11/18 bulgogi platter - bulgogi, bread, salad, choice of eggs (sunny side up). Filling meal. Confused but realized the charcoal bread was squid ink bread after some guessing and eventually asking :P

Order and pay first then self seat down style

After pasta dinner over at Trattoria (it's Pasta Tuesday), my friend and I went to La Foret for dessert. The place looked cool with the rustic/industrial feel and open space concept. We were also amazed with the varieties of cakes and pastries they had. So I ordered the hazelnut cake while my friend ordered the Japanese cheesecake. Unfortunately both were a little disappointing because her cake was too solid while my cake had a weird layer of frosting on it. However we would still go back to try their other cakes next time.

Sunny Sunday brunch, LOVELY! Finally came here to check out La Foret in this hidden location at Burnaby, previously was a auto repair shop. The cafe is very spacious with high ceiling, earthy and greenery setting with interesting decoration in different elements like rocks, cements, woods and plants.

I remember a while back this location use to be a garage for repairs. Now from what we heard on social media, the renos had been done nicely, and hype is stirred. My girlfriend and I wanted to see what they had to offer.

To be honest, I wouldn't have notice this place, if it wasn't for social media. Their square footage is insane! There's a nice casual contemporary feel to it. Its also a great space for students or anyone needing to get work done. There's parking in the front, back, and in the residents area.

We approached the glass display and the desserts caught our eye. The moose cakes caught our attention, so we chose the blueberry. Then we choose the classic chocolate fudge cake.

The blueberry moose cake was light and airy. Very well balanced and not heavy thick. The purple ish color is gorgeous. The shape is contemporary. Excellent. Then the chocolate cake. A good classic standard that will make you melt with each bite.

We loved our experience. Most of all the environment is beautiful. Prices are slightly high but we felt there's a touch of quality and love in the labor of desserts. I can't speak for anything else, since we only came for desserts. Looks like my girlfriend and I, found a tiny hidden gem in Burnaby, to get office work done.

Since Zomato took away the decimal reading, which is ridiculous, I'm rating it a 3.5

La Forêt has a variety selection of food - from breakfast, buns, pastries, dessert as well as made coffees. Plenty of seating, but the place gets busy.

The place was huge (a warehouse-like feel) with high ceiling. The interior and exterior are both minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing. It is definitely the place to take a beautiful worthy Instagram’s photos.

However, in our opinion - the food is mediocre. We ordered some pastries and a coffee bun. It is definitely not worth of the money - for the quality of the food they served.

Coffee was decent but slightly overpriced however I wish they had more vegan food options. The ambiance is amazing, all the greenery is beautiful.

The ambiance and the music and art are what make this place. The cafe is insanely gorgeous and everything from their island with banana trees to stone walls really play into the name of the place. The food and drink is nothing extraordinary. The cake is okay, the coffee and the tea is okay.

A perfect place to leave myself alone and relax, nice atmosphere. It’s busy place, food was ok. I didn’t try their pastries yet, but I’m definitely going back for it!

I heard my parents talking about this place quite a few times and they suggest that I go and and check it out. I tried their brew coffee and their Strawberry Roll Cake. Coffee is $2 each which is reasonable and I love their cake! They make their own pastries and the cake tasted great with fresh strawberries and the cream is not too sweet and also fresh as well. I also like the ambiance as it is spacious and with cozy and relaxing atmosphere! The only thing that I wish they can do better is parking. They have parking in front of their store, but the spaces are very limited and I only realized later after I left the store that they have more parking on the back. They don't have a clear sign telling people that there is more space on the back. Overall it is still a nice place worth visiting again!

This cafe has such earthy, cozy vibes - and lots of space for all of its patrons. The Edison lights are a nice touch and our matcha bingsoo was really refreshing! My latte was hot and the tiramisu was decadent (though there was a lot of cocoa powder on top of it).

La Foret opened its doors not too long ago and already it has become one of the more popular cafes on Instagram. The pictures looked so pretty that I just had to check it out. Claire also went the same weekend I went so this review is a combination of our experiences. This lovely café is conveniently located between Metrotown and Royal Oak sky train station. This is a perfect place to escape the stresses of your busy city life. It offers free wifi too. I wish it was there when I was a student because I’d probably come here all the time.

Dear Diary, it’s been 4 weeks since I first stepped into La Foret and I’m no closer to finding the exit, despite searching for over ten hours each day. I’ve discovered multiple flora, fauna, shaman and their magic brown elixir, terrifying wall etchings and concrete monoliths. Luckily there is an abundance of food items and it never seems to rain, but I can’t help but hope that one day I’ll open a door that isn’t a bathroom. One thing is for certain:

Vanilla Bean Cream + Mango & Raspberry Pudding | $7.50

It took me too long to post this, but I finally did it 😤 Cafe La Forêt is now everyone's go-to cafe place, because of its photogenic desserts and interior 😍 And of course, sweets are always the main reason to attract me to visit new cafes. My friend and I bought this verrine and a fruit tart to share. The dessert itself is absolutely beautiful, and it is not as sweet as I expected. However, I was not able to taste any hint of raspberry in this, so at first I thought I remembered the wrong name. Anyways, if you want to have a larger selection of desserts, you probably want to come here early. And there is no set time to restock the glass box. Overall, the service is not bad, but the desserts are definitely on a pricier side.
—
Taste: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 4/5
Quality-Price: 3/5

Absolutely love this place!!! It was such a great find, due to its odd/hidden location. Love the modern and lively atmosphere as well as the interior desgin. So aesthetically pleasing, as well as cute spot to take artsy instagram photos. The selection of deserts is impressive, as each desert is presented beautifully and decadant at the same time. It's a great place to grab a cup of coffee and a desert with your friends. They also have delicous paninis and strong espressos if your into that. This place is a must try, so if your ever near metrotown, make sure to stop by!

Heading to La Forêt in Metrotown – the neighbourhood, not the mall – is like watching Burnaby’s past and present collide. Our car slows, pauses at a sentimental relic of the 90s – Bread Garden on Central Boulevard. You might know it as a chain that later re-fashioned and rebranded itself as BG Urban Cafe.
