Review Sushi S Japanese Restaurant - Burnaby

John Lee
Among all other sushi restaurants, it is the Best sushi in town. High-quality food with great service is very hard to find in quiet neighborhood, but this restaurant managed to describe perfection. I saw numerous reviews before coming to the restaurant, and it is worth a try. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would definitely put maximum stars for the restaurant. Will come back to try all other food!

not my go to sushi but it's getting better and better over the years. the sushi chef was really friendly when we came in. the staff was also attentive because i asked for things to be on the side and they do it also. i will for sure try to come back here.

Weekday specials are great. Sushi rolls are a bit on the pricey side for the quality. Overall good experience with friendly service.

Great presentation for both dine in and takeout. Love the rolls, sushi and l fresh sashimi. Quality stays the same each time we go.

This place deserves more than 5 stars. The food was amazing. It serves highest quality sushi you ever tasted. I definitely recommend this place.

EXTREMELY FRESH SUSHI! Went in the summer and ordered takeout. The service was extremely fast and the quality of the food was top notch. Would be my go to place if I lived around Burnaby.

The bluefin tuna that they mentioned for their special taste fabulous and uni with torched bluefin tuna sushi taste richer! I will definitely coming back and be regular I love how they treat their dishes and services!!

Very nice. The sashimi was very fresh and clean, and the rice in the sushi was very good, and as soon as the door opened, there were many people coming in.

Sushi S is an inconspicuous restaurant in the small plaza (not sure if there’s a name?) with No. 1 Beef Noodle House on Willingdon. I’ve been there a couple of times for takeout only, so have yet to write a review. My coworkers and I came here for lunch, so I thought I would finally write a post on it!

Ooo everything was really good. Nice portion of sushi, presentation was great and staff were kind as well. Prices are reasonable. Came on a random weekday before 6pm and had no issue with parking.

My rating's only based on the food since I've ordered takeout from their restaurant via Skipthedishes, and hence cannot comment on ambience and/or service.

Rainbow Special Maki Roll ($11)
Tarantula Special Maki Roll ($11)
Aburi Salmon Oshi ($13)
I didn't actually try any of the sushi myself since I'm allergic to avocado. From the feedback that I got, it was generally quite good. The Rainbow Roll was the favourite, followed by the Tarantual Roll. The Aburi Salmon was not as well received as there was apparently too much rice and not enough fish.

Chicken Teriyaki ($9.3): 1.5/5; The pieces of chicken were small and thin, and many of them consisted of mostly skin with barely any meat. Moreover, the skin was soggy and lacked any crispiness at all. I don't know how they could have screwed this dish up, especially considering that most of their other food was decent. Seriously, this is probably one of the worst chicken teriyaki that I've had; I've got better versions of the dish from AYCE.

BBQ Beef Rib ($14.8): 4/5; The beef was flavourful and coated in a sweet sauce that I actually quite liked. It was a bit chewy and grisly in some parts, but was definitely superior to the beef from the yakiudon. This is easily my favourite dish.

Beef Yakiudon ($12.1): 3.5/5; The yakiudon was topped with a good amount of grilled beef. The beef as on the tough/stringy side, which was what I expected (I don't think that I've ever had good teriyaki beef from a casual Japanse restaurant). Fortunately, the noodles were enjoyable, having a good amount of flavour and a nice, still slightly chewy texture. Overall, one of the better stir-fried noodle dishes that I've had.

Unagi Don ($14.3): 3/5; The flavour was pretty good. Unfortunately, as it often happens, the eel did have a "fishy" flavour. It was not too strong however, and I still enjoyed the dish.

Salmon Kama ($4.4): 3.5/5; I personally found the fish to be underseasoned and on the bland side; otherwise however, I quite liked the dish. The salmon was very tender and juicy; in fact, I prefer it over more expensive cuts.

I had relatively high expectations of this restaurant since it appears to have pretty good reviews, and I am left somewhat disappointed. While I don't think that this place is bad, but I doubt that I'll return either.

Definitely satisfied! The food was AMAZING - quality ingredients, good prices for the quantity, and the taste was great.

We ate for $34 for 2 ppl plus tip - shared a bunch of dishes

If you love rolls as much I do, you should totally try this place! 😄😄

Saba Oshi sushi was absolutely amazing! ❤️❤️Probably one of the best that I ever ate. Popcorn roll, unlike its plain appearance, was surprisingly delicious. Chicken yakisoba and chicken wing karage were tasty too! However, despite beautiful presentation, cheesy cheesy roll and munch roll were disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE cheese, but cheesy cheesy was just too greasy for me..... As for munch roll, I think it lacked wow factor?! Just couldn't remember much about the roll after I finished eating. Overall, food and service was good! Next time, I will try volcano roll (it looked awesome)!!!! 😋

Sushi S is located in a busy mini mall located on the southwest corner of Willingdon and Moscrop. I’ve often passed by this location but steered clear due to how busy the crowded parking lot seems to get. The interior decor isn’t bad… it’s definitely not a hole-in-the-wall and it doesn’t feel overcrowded. They have large booths on one side of the restaurant while the smaller tables are on the other side. It wasn’t overly busy when I visited at 6pm on a Wednesday but the parking lot fills up pretty quickly later on.

I’ve heard of Sushi S for a while but Grayson and I finally decided to go one day because well, we basically ate at every Japanese restaurant in central Burnaby already and this happened to be ONE of the rare ones we hadn’t been to. I never get nigiri but I was craving it but wanted sashimi so I decided to get a combo that allowed me to have both 🙂

You ever eat sushi that is just average and you think you can deal but then the more you sit around thinking about it, the angrier you get?

Maybe the sushi has some valid points to make and maybe you could forgive the fact that it falls apart into your face before it actually reaches your mouth.

Six of us went to Sushi S for dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was medium sized, but had lots of spaces between the tables to make it spacious. They had a huge projector screen in the middle playing some basketball games. The menu is quite extensive, so it took a while for everyone to decide.

We decided to try out Sushi S because it had a 3.9 rating on Zomato and was on our way to Costco. The decor was simple and it was pretty busy for a neighbourhood restaurant (i.e. nothing else around). We had a bunch of nigiri, Tako sashimi, Kanpachi and Saba Shioyaki. Up to the Saba Shioyaki, we were okay with the restaurant. Everything was decent enough and service was good. But we just can't look past the failed Saba. We will likely not return. That being said, if you're in the neighbourhood and craving sushi, it's worth visiting. It could be a good "go to" for people in the neighbourhood.

I've been here at least a dozen times and it's always very consistent. Quality of sushi is good and the pieces are bite sized. They also take more pride in their presentation and have some very interesting brown and even black rice chef roles Id recommend trying. Lastly, their spicy sauce is great! Always get that as a side for dipping. Only area for improvement is they are painfully slow to get you the bull at the end. You have to just get up and go to the cashier when your ready to leave, which is odd considering service is quick until that point.

Specialty rolls have lots of sauces - typical Korean style. Oyster motoyaki is very tiny but ok flavour. The rice is quite hard and a little dry. For some reason I feel very thirsty after the meal. MSG overdose?

Came here around 5pm, right after their lunch break. Service was fast and good. They came around to refill our tea at least 3 times. The chicken oyakodon was surprisingly good! The rainbow roll was amazing as well. Everything was a bit on the expensive side, but quality was good. Would definitely come back, but not often considering my wallet will probably complain.
Raymond's Sushi Adventures
Onto my favourite Japanese fusion dish, the Aburi Salmon Oshi here featured Atlantic salmon and avocado. Unlike Japanese Bistro Hatzu's version, which made me cry, this one featured the right amount of spiciness (in my opinion). The Atlantic salmon on top was soft and exhibited a hint of smoky flavour. The avocado brought a creamy feel to the oshi, but it did make

June 01, 2016

Decided to come here after being disappointed yesterday that there were no sushi rolls. Zomato'ed it up and here we are. Menu states that if you want more rice, let the server know. Seriously, get more rice!

Prawn Tempura - Delicious. Thinly battered and fried to perfection. Comes with 7 prawns.

Spicy Scallop Cone - Siracha and mayo. Can't go wrong with that. Scallops chopped into small pieces.

Tarantula Roll - Spider roll with a twist! Served with black rice! Nice design. Very delicious. I like how they had red, green, and black tobikos on it.

Smoked Salmon & Yam Tempura Roll and Dynamite Roll - Literally the same thing except one with smoked salmon and one with a shrimp. Server got our order mixed up and gave us a yam tempura roll instead of dynamite roll. This place loves their yam too much. Felt like I ate lots of yams.

California Roll - Without the more rice option the California roll looked very poor. Looks like some sushi rolled over some rice. That's how much rice was on it.

Negitoro Roll - Finely chopped tuna. Needs more onions.

Service - GOOD. First time at a Japanese restaurant where the server asked how our food was while we still had food on the table! Checked up on us several times. Food was quick too.

We were slammed with meetings at the office today so we had a late lunch take out from Sushi S. The portion size had been inconsistent lately but today it was a good day. The ingredients were fresh and tasted great. Our usuals are the spicy tuna, sockeye salmon sashimi, negitoro rolls and fresh greens. Everyone at the office enjoys the salad dressing. We have ordered their fanciers rolls in past and they are fairly good as well. For Burnaby, this is a decent spot despite not being run by an authentic Japanese sushi chef.
The food is good, but there isn't enough parking for all the stores and customers. They only have one/two waitresses on a Saturday night. Took 15 mins for them to take my order. For one person.

Good, consistent quality, and the staff has always been friendly. I normally get the assorted sashimi and it's always tasted fresh. The black dragon special roll and the red dynamite special rolls are awesome.

Sushi S definitely specializes in specialty rolls. Their volcano roll was the most intense roll I've seen, it was super saucy and was topped with spicy tuna and salmon sashimi :o! My friend and I also tried their takoyaki which was pretty standard. Overall, it was pretty yummy. The only down side was that their parking is a shared lot with a couple other small businesses in the same area so parking is limited!

This is our go-to restaurant when we don't feel like driving to Vancouver for decent sushi. Thankfully, it's in our neighborhood, so we frequent this place a lot. They have a variety of special rolls: our favorites being the popcorn special maki, S special maki and red special maki. Their salads are very reasonably priced and big enough to share with another or have on its own as a meal. We usually order the spicy tuna tempura salad. Our kids love their California rolls as you can request to have the cucumbers omitted. The ika karaage is also very good: not very greasy and lightly battered. Service is always friendly and efficient. They have occasionally, thrown in sliced oranges at the end of our meal with the customary candy. Take-out is great too: they've never messed up an order and give you plenty of chopsticks/soy sauce.Parking can be a challenge, but if you can't find anything in the parking lot, there's always parking on the side streets a block or two away.

I have passed by this place so so many times but never thought once about going there...the location is next to a high school on a busy road so it was hard to find parking but todayyyy as i was around the neighborhood; decided to give it a try!
The food is good! We ordered the volcano roll, red roll, udon, few nigiri-they were all good. The volcano roll was awesome; big portions..great sashimi...not toooo spicy. Red roll..also good; bite size kinda sweet but in a good way. Good customer service too! Will visit again.

The food I had was simply amazing. After eating at places like Toshi I was skeptical that a place in Burnaby could compete with prime time joints in Vancouver. I had a sampling from most aspects of their menu was satisfied every time. They pay homage to the product they use and don't over rice their rolls; their sashimi was flawless. I'll be going back. As for service, no complaints.

Walking in, it is quite obvious that the place is not authentically Japanese. Instead, you can tell it's Korean-run, with the blasting of K-pop and staff communicating in Korean. Despite visiting at peak lunch hours on a Sunday, it was not terribly busy. I can tell some people are flowing in after church haha. Perhaps the rain stopped anyone else from getting out of bed...

Love it. Go almost every week. They always put the game on (without sound), and the employees are friendly.
Do recommend!

One-of-a-kind, delicious Sushi!!!. This restaurant never fails to keep their customers happy and satisfied. Food is excellent, beyond description. Compared to Sushi Garden, this restaurant deserves to be as popular or even more heard by every sushi lovers out there! Love love love everything about this restaurant: the food, friendly servers, and the great ambiance (background music, etc). I will definitely keep coming back here! :)

Unagi is great, but other things..... sashimi is not fresh enough. Just so so

-----26 Jul, 2014-----

TAKOYAKI. Not good

Service? Not too great. Food is good though.. Pretty good, and you do get your money's worth. I've had the red roll and "trantula roll" (essentially a Spider Roll, but with black rice) and both were delicious. But as other reviewers have noted, service leaves something to be desired. There would be times I'd go and the service was decent enough and other times when they'd take forever or forget your order completely. Do not go during the lunch rush when nearly school and office workers have lunch. If you're planning to bring a large party of people (e.g. team lunch with your coworkers), email them your orders in advance so that when you get there, you don't have to wait as long. Reservations highly recommended. If you are ordering take-out, better to call in advance because they get pretty busy.

Terrible Service. This is not the first time this has happened to me.

I order something like tuna sashimi and spicy salmon sashimi (I always have sashimi) and after waiting an hour, my friends will have gotten their foods and eaten, and I just get my food. I had to pack up my food and leave without eating it. The worst part is, they don't even acknowledge that this is not good customer service. They look surprised that I want a take out container when everyone else has finished eating.

The restaurant was busy when we arrived, but died out quickly. Everyone who arrived and sat after us, had gotten their food AND EATEN, before I received my dishes.

And no, free miso soup doesn't make up for this.

Favourite Restaurant!. My favourite sushi/japanese place in Burnaby! So hard to resist going there on a daily basis! You must try the smoked salmon cream cheese, by far the best!

Sushi-holic. I'm quite the sushi-holic and I've tried many places in the Greater Vancouver restaurant. This place is in my top 3. The food is great and the staff is very friendly.

If you're ever in here try the spicy salmon combo!

It was really awkward. i walked in and there was no greeting whatsoever. I had to akwardly walk to a seat. the server was straight faces and super quiet. i had ask her to repeat every time. Also the veggies in the sunomono tasted like old tupperwear. the tempura was good but the chicken katsu was too thin. Service was okay, i mean she filled my water and everything but she seemed mad or something.

Overall very good! Good portions, tasty and friendly staff. Will return.

Food weren't bad, but absolutely no service! Won't be a top choice to go back.

Excellent Eating Experience. I went there with a friend, were seated immediately by a friendly waitress. Our menus were brought quickly and we were made to feel like valued customers from the get-go. While we were choosing what to eat, they brought us complimentary miso soups! We enjoyed the ambiance, a real tasteful mix of modern and tradition. Then came the food... First thing we noticed was how visually remarkable the plates were, artistically designed and followed up with a great taste to match! We were checked up on often, and had our green tea and water filled up frequently. The waitress always had a genuine smile on her face!

Overall 9/10
(1 point being taken off for price being slightly higher than average, but really not too bad)

So far is one of my favorite sushi restaurants!!! Me and my fam went there yesterday for lunch and were not disappointed.
We orderd the black dragon roll, popcorn roll, volcano roll, gyoza, and appatizers tempura (that they let us customize).
All the rolls were excellently presented and looked to good to eat!! I loved the popcorn roll with the deep friend scallops on top! Perfectly done!
All there rolls except the volcano had tiny pieces tho. Which I don't mind since I have a small mouth, but for the price offered it could have had a bit more volume to it.
Only major complaint was the asparagus tempura which was not cooked properly. It ended up being really stringy and tough to chew and swallow.
The waiter was nice but didn't say much just nodded a lot, but friendly.
After our meal they presented us with some small sliced oranges as a little dessert after. Which I loved as a nice little touch! Definitely recommend S Sushi to anyone!!! 9/10!! :D

Terrible service if you're a high school student . They serve all the adults first and just expect you to wait 50 minutes for your good. The food is not bad but the service makes it not worth it.
Vanessa
Excellent quality and good prices. I try something new every time and I'm never disappointed. Best Spicy agadashi tofu I've had and sashimi quality is excellent. Word of caution though: Don't park in front of Jenny's corner market! She had me towed within 5 mins.

I made an account just to write this place a review. This restaurant is near and dear to my heart. Me, my boyfriend and our daughter frequent this place. The food is always delicious. The thing that sets this place apart is the chef. It is clear to me that he truly cares for taste and plating. He is always sending over free sample plates to us of things we have never ordered, just to see how we like them. The staff remember us, it is well priced and we feel a great sense of loyalty even after we moved we travel across the city for sushi s

Came here once when it opened, been going back regularly ever since. Love some of the speciality rolls that they have, you have to try the sushi s roll!
Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Would recommend to anyone looking for good sushi in the Burnaby area.

Pricey. Live in the neighbourhood and finally has a chance to visit Sushi S for the first time. Food is delicious but I paid over $70 for a family of four and still not full. Very small portion. I don't think I will go back because there are better value Japanese restaurants elsewhere.

Our only sushi place!. This place is amazing!!! Good food and good service! Because I am pregnant and can't eat a lot of the raw stuff, they were so accommodating with the changes I made to the menu items I ordered. We go there so often now that the waiter knows our order! Highly recommended!

High quality sushi at reasonable prices. So good!!

I'm so disappointed. This place is expensive and serves ok food at best. I had the beef yakiudon and S Roll split btwn the bf and I. We left hungry and -$25. The roll was over sauced and soggy. The beef yakiudon had maybe 5 pieces of beef? Guess I know why it was empty at dinner time.
Abc_sesame_street_98
Not bad. I liked the place. I didn't love it though. The taste was good but not memorable. The place is spacious and had an assortment of specialty sushi. I guess that's the thing that makes this place so great. But I like the plain and simple stuff and the plain and simple stuff here is just okay.
Krimsoncity
The go-to Burnaby Sushi joint. This place needs more attention! I have been a Burnaby girl for years and just recently found about this place on Urbanspoon. It may just be the fact that it is located in a pretty sketchy area on Willingdon Ave. Sigh, brings back memories of BCIT. The prices are great! For the portion and the quality. I pay $4-5 dollars for 4 pieces of agedashi tofu elsewhere. Pretty surprised that the bowl was full of fried tofu. Deep fried scallop salad was so good! Too bad now that I am allergic to Shellfish, I must try another salad... What's more amazing is that the presentation is comparable to those in high-end sushi joints in downtown. Perhaps Minami? It may just be that the restaurant was pretty quiet when we got there for the chef to get his talent working but the detail was eye-catching. We are definitely going back for their special rolls, thumbs up!
Stanley Yen
Absolutely recommended!! Great food and service! Especially the price of it! You will be amazed by how cheap it is for such a great food!
Smartfood
Do not like it. It not even better than Hibiki Suhsi' make. and little bit more expensive than the original owner's. Why Korean does not cook tofu hotpot? i always visit japanese's.
Lala
Absolutely delicious! Sushi and sashimi is always fresh!

Highy recommended.

service is always friendly and professional.

Red tuna is always a delight.

Could definately eat here daily.

Salmon sashimi was very fresh and tastes excellent.

Kaki fry and the korean bbq beef ribs were very good and seasoned perfectly.

Pleasant staff. Food presented wonderfully. Extremely clean. Service is great. I will be recommending this to everyone i know. Just a fresh atmosphere, a great place to relax.

Sushi S - Take out - OK. I got take out, they're a new store, as of June 21, 2012. They had no take out menus, but their service was excellent, as you would expect from a place that's just starting off.
Also, the take out had tiny cups of rice, which was a disappointment, you may want to ask for an extra cup of rice for free, as the small cup is too little of a serving for a $13 meal(It's about the volume of 1 cup, which isn't much).
The portions of the meat/veggies was fine though, not too much, not too little. Could be more, but Japanese restaurants typically don't give large servings so this is normal.
The sushi was also medium-small serving sizes, especially for the price.
Would I return? Yes, if I'm not that hungry, and am ok paying medium-high prices. As the food quality is GOOD, that's all they got going for them at the moment.

I recommend this restaurant for takeout, given the warnings above.
I have not eaten there, and cannot comment on the portions or service.

New place, nice service.. Came in with my family and tried a few dishes to eat. The sushi was pretty fresh, and the teriyaki beef was flavourful. The sushi pieces for the normal rolls are smaller than the "Vancouver average", though this is more in line with what it's supposed to be rather than just being huge (they do note it in the menu so you can't be surprised). The only criticism I have is that the rice for my chirashi don was underseasoned. But the fact they took my prawn head back and deep-fried it does mean they pay attention to detail. The service was also attentive - they were half-full, but the server kept coming back to see if we needed anything. They only took over the place a few months ago, but I hope they maintain the quality and service - I'm willing to return.
Yoyo
Quality sushi at a reasonable. Both aesthetically and gustatorily pleasant. The restaurant was both spacious and well decorated. I had doubts about visiting this little known establishment, but those doubts were unwarranted. I will be a return customer for its excellent cusomter service as well.

Really good sushi and service! Satisfying everytime we go !:)

Best Japanese restaurant in Burnaby. Wow we were really impressed with Sushi S. sashimi was so fresh and the sushi was so yummy. The Volcano roll was to die for. We hesitated if we should order that at first - $14 for a roll sounds too expensive. but it was worth that price. it was lightly deep fried outside and creamy inside with cream cheese and real crab and avo etc. so good. and there was a big portion of spicy tuna mounted on top of the "volcano". umm so good. I was kinda disappointed at the kitchen food tho. ika karaage looked really good but the batter wasn't crunchy and it tasted bland without sauce. miso soup was okay. Their service was wonderful. servers were friendly and smiled a lot. they really go the extra mile to make customers happy. and they enjoy doing that. really appreciated their service!! hard to find that kind of service in Vancouver anymore considering their reasonable prices. overall, great service good food reasonable prices. I will definitely go back soon and recommend sushi s to everybody. keep up the good job sushi s!!!

This place is so awesome that it actually made me wanna post my first review. So yes, I gave this place my first time.

The customer service is awesome. We came on mother's day and they gave us a bunch of freebies including a sweet potato appetizer and a seared toro as the last dish (after we had already paid). Awesome.

The deluxe assorted sashimi is totally worth the money ($20 for 21 pieces of chef's choice sashimi). They even took the head of the shrimp sashimi and fried it for us. It was so amazing, crunchy and just different, in a good way.

Totally worth a try and I'm totally coming back!

Excellent service as well as sushi! Definitely a place to recommend to all my friends. Fresh fish had kanpachi along with a few other nigiri. All were delicious and tasty. Also had kaki fry breaded oyster also tasty loved the sauce. Their sunomono also good tako loved that they added carrot shavings along with broccoli and other greens. Another item that everyone must try is the tempura ice cream! Aka deep fried ice cream! It is a mix I had green tea also a walnut vanilla absolutely mouth watering! Definitely one of my new favorite places. Friendly and awesome service along with great chefs make this place a complete package for great food! Sushi S definitely must stand for Super sushi!
Vicky
Is officially my favorite restaurant of all time! Boyfriend is going to bcit and we found sushi s on our way down with great reviews here. And the reviews were exactly bang on! We have been going ever since (a little over 10 visits now) and the great customer service keeps us coming back!

First time here. Extremely impressed. Ordered BC roll, Spicy scallop roll, Unagi roll and Ika Karage. Very fresh ingredients, especially the squid (Ika Karage) was quite tender even though it was deep fried. Will definitely come back if I'm in the area

Delicious!. We have been to eat at Sushi S twice now, and both times it was a great experience. The specialty rolls we ordered will really tasty and well presented. We particularly enjoyed the vegevege roll (a roll filled with many different veggies, wrapped in a unique wrapper, and drizzled in the gingery asian salad dressing) and the smoked salmon mango roll. The service was also very friendly and timely. We were regular customers of the previous management, and will continue to be regular customers of Sushi S.

잘 먹었습니다, 감사합니다!

Edit: These days my husband and I go here 2-3 times a month. The service is great and the food is delicious. I'm addicted to the sauce in the Volcano Roll (and I'm usually not even a fan of "spicy" food).
MelVan
Very Good Sushi and friendly service!. First thing we noticed when we walked in is that it had a lot of open space: No cramping together. Huge projector TV inside.

We love the creative sushi rolls. Volcano Roll - Very nicely presented. It had a good amount of tuna sashimi in the middle of the plate and about 8 rolls. We had this at Sushiholic before - it tasted very similar. Next time though, we have to ask for less spicy. Very filling dish. Munch Roll - spicy tuna with baked scallop on top and tempura batter. Again, nice presentation. Tasty. Not as complicated as the volcano roll. Toro Nigiri - tasted fresh and yummy. Good size piece of toro with the right amount of rice.
Complimentary dishes they gave us: miso soup and seared salmon. Seared salmon - Very good. The outside was the seared salmon wrapped with some radish and some imitation crab in the middle. Some places can't do this right but Sushi S did a good job searing it to bring more of the salmon flavour and oil out.

Service: Good service. Came by to ask us how the food were and to refill tea.

This is where Hibiki used to be: from what I heard one of the chefs from the former Hibiki is still there. The menu seems to carry a lot of the same rolls as Sushiholic and Oyama Sushi.

Would def. come again!

Oyster motoyaki. Perfect proportions of oyster, mayo, cheese; on a bed of greens to balance to heaviness of the cheese. Best I've had.

-----03 Jun, 2015-----

Agedashi tofu. Hot inside, crispy outside. Sauce not too salty. Very well executed

-----27 Apr, 2012-----

Great service. Love the Takoyaki. Good quality sushi.

Friendly service and quality sushi. Was at BCIT and felt like sushi, and found Hibiki has changed to this new management. It is definitely a good change. The servers are warm and friendly. The sushi goes back to the root of bite-size delicacy, which is refreshing given the monster-size servings dished out by many places around town (though the menu says the will monster-size the rice if requested, for free). Price is normal, fish is tasty. Try them out if you are in the area.
Meluvfood
Very clean and spacious. staff are polite with warm smile. Foods are great( ask for todays special, they always have some great deals for fresh nigiris or oysters...) They even have projector and sound system for the Game Nites!! One thing for the peeps at Sushi S, please get some cushions for the booth seats my butts hurting lol) Im def. going back next week.
FoodAdventureTime
We tried one of their specialty rolls, that being the Red Roll. I always find it interesting how sushi joints take regular rolls, such as a California roll, and add lots of toppings to make it a specialty roll. The Red Roll at Sushi S is an chopped scallop roll with a chopped, spicy, tuna topping.

I HAVE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT GUYS!! I'm taking this semester off and I'm going on an asia trip with my mom!! Seeing how I've had a hard semester, my mom offered to take me with her on her trip to asia!! How could I say no? LOL! I'm leaving today, so this'll be my last post in Vancouver until I get back! But fear not, I'll be blogging the whole time I'm there hehe and I'll be doing restaurant reviews to keep you guys updated on all the yummy stuff I'm eating lol!! :D So stay tuned!! I won't be linking my reviews on Urbanspoon but I'll be updating this blog as frequently as I can!! I'll be resuming my Vancouver posts as soon as I get back! :D I'll probably be there until March, which is sooo long (I know) haha, but this will probably be the last break I'm taking until I graduate! I'll have to take an extra summer semester to make up for the time I've lost lol. :D We'll going to Taipei first (to visit the grandparents) and from there we're going to book flights to other asian countries!! We're thinking about going to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam (but might not get to all of them haha.) I'm already giddy with excitement just thinking about all the awesome places we're going to go hehe! If there are any must-see/must eat places in any of the countries I mentioned, leave them for me down below!! :D Anyways, back to Sushi S!! On Sunday my mom and I were famished after church (as usual lol) and being the lazy bums that we are, decided to go across the street to Sushi S! I've actually eaten here twice back in highschool! And I'm surprised I actually remember what I had ordered...the first time I got a cali roll, and the second time I went I had a chicken teriyaki roll w/ some agedashi tofu lol! I remember it being pretty yummy! :D Assorted Nigiri $13 3.5/5 stars This was really great deal! I liked how they included amaebi and tako, because usually they don't come in combos! Everything tasted pretty

sushi s has great reviews on urban spoon and my mom asked me to choose a restaurant for a lunch of 8 people. i wasn't expecting too much but was IN LOVE when the first rolls came out and i saw the amount of rice. it was PERFECTION. i am one of those annoying people that pick off chunks of rice from sushi pieces because its just too much and at sushi s, i did that NOT ONE TIME. although the prices are a bit high, i think the quality is worth it. spicy salmon roll ($4): really nice big chunks of salmon and again, it was made so carefully but be warned it is actually REALLY SPICY 4.5/5 chopped scallop roll ($4): so beautifully constructed and tasted delicious 4.5/5 S roll ($10) crabmeat, prawn tempura, yam tempura, cucumber, avocado: very good combination of deep fried and sauce flavours. 4/5 red dragon ($12) prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber with salmon on top: beautifully constructed again, presentation was really amazing for the rolls! the flavours worked well together and it wasn't too spicy. 4/5 black dragon ($10) prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber with bbq eel on top: flavours the same as the top, i actually preferred this one because i now love unagi :D 4/5 alaska roll ($5): same concept as the sushi garden rolls but this had a way bigger piece of salmon and instead of being stuffed with avocado, it had a california roll filling. sauce onto wasn't too citrusy making the roll delicious. 4.5/5 not pictured: smoked salmon cream cheese roll (red pepper and mango) ($6): this was actually very delicious, it had the perfect balance between the different flavours and was constructed very neatly! a bit pricey though 4/5 seafood yakisoba ($12): small portion but lots of stuff other than just the noodles! a little bit oily. 3.75/5 bbq beef short ribs ($13.50): honestly don't remember details but they were good. 3.5/5 spicy combo (spicy tuna, spicy salmon, spicy chopped scallop) ($11): same spicy sauce as mentioned above but used for all the rolls making it a lit

The Alaska roll was packed with ingredients. It’s essentially a California roll (avocado and cucumber!) topped with salmon. They definitely didn’t skimp on the crab or the avocado as both were spilling out the ends from the rolls being too full. The sauce was a bit strange though. I still haven’t figured out what was in it except maybe sesame and roe. I think it could have done without the sauce as it looks a little unappetizing.
Burnaby Sushi
The service was a bit slow on this particular night but the staff apologized many times and explained it was due to a large group that had come in. The chef ended up giving us free ice cream to make up for it, which was a nice gesture. The atmosphere is nice with great lighting. There are some large TVs and I think the intention is to try to make the restaurant into a sports bar. I’m not a big fan of sports playing on large TVs when I’m out for a nice sushi dinner, so next time I’ll be sure to ask for a table out of view the TVs.

I've gotta say, their service was worse this time. Don't get me wrong, it's not the way staff treat us, it's the TIMELINESS of their service. Lunch took us around 2 hrs when the actual eating was less than half of that. Anyways.
Domo Is Craving...
Hello Everyone! After viewing apartments with Phil and his agent, we randomly decided to go dinner at Sushi S which is located along Willingdon at a random corner spot. Parking spots are very limited but they do have set spots for each restaurant so people parking at that particular spot must be eating at that restaurant in order to park there. I've passed by this restaurant many times and it never appealed to me so I was not expecting much out of it. We asked our waitress whether they were Japanese but they are actually Korean. Which I'm not surprised because in Vancouver there's a lot of Japanese restaurants that are not owned by Japanese people. Phil ordered several slices of Sashimi and he said it was thick and delicious! We also ordered two plates of their Popcorn Sushi Roll (Approx. $13.00) The so-called popcorn is actually deep fried shrimps. Overall the dish was awesome! The sushi was mainly just California roll lathered in spicy mayo and covered with deep fried popcorn shrimps

Sushi S is not your typical cheap sushi joint, but their values do stack up. Their staff was very friendly and came a few times to fill up our tea. The restaurant is clean and spacious, however parking might be a pain as the strip mall shares parking spaces with 4 other stores around. Overall, you are getting service more than quantity here.
