Review The One Restaurant - Burnaby

Jeeeeezzzzz! This place hits the spot! Our friend introduced this to us and it didn’t disappoint. The chicken nugget fried rice is a must. Between 8 people, we got two of the chicken nugget fried rice, a seafood fried noodle, two fried squid, one chicken knee cap and one eggplant with ground pork. It was the perfect amount of food and everything came out so quickly and was so delicious. AND we split everything and in total everything cost $16/pp after tax and tip, which for dinner, is impossible nowadays! Don’t sleep on the knee caps. The mango slush was a banger too.

Use to come here all the time. The food is still good and they take credit cards now when back in the day it was cash only. This establishment has been here for a long time. Would be cool if they updated the interior a bit.

Decided to try The One for the first time in 2 plus years on Saturday March 19th, 2022. Was hesitant because of past reviews. Went for an early dinner because place can be quit busy during dinner time. Well place was still clean and bright, service a bit slow as expected but the food was great! Presentation was good and bug portions. One plate of fired rice can literally feed 3 plus people. We had their popular Chicken Nugget Fried Rice, Fried Squid, order of XO sauce fried beef noodle and couple of other dishes. Also had their popular slushy drinks. Drinks are literally towers of slush. We ordered lychee slush, mango slush and coconut pinnapple slush. All 3 were loaded with flavor as we remembered. Dinner was great and very affordable for families! Service even though a bit slow, workers were friendly and polite. Must try spot for everyone.

One of the best Taiwanese restaurants in Vancouver. Authentic is the key! Their popcorn chicken is perfectly made, braised beef noodle soup was delicious as well as all the other dishes we tried. Chocolate smoothie also highly recommended.

First time ever at The One. I never knew there was a Taiwanese restaurant as it's quite tucked in and the sign is not that noticeable. The first thing that made me take away a star was the lack of acknowledgement. I stood there for a good 7 minutes, made eye contact twice with the girl but no communication about what's happening. Then the vested guy in the photo came in later strolled up to the counter and the girl helped him with his takeout order right away. So I was a little bummed about this. I guess I'm spoiled by good service that may sound like: "hey someone will be with you shortly" on the first eye contact connection. Later a different guy with glasses greeted and seated us. Food is mediocre. In my honest opinion I prefer Myst down the street.

I came here 2 years ago and returned recently. The service and food quality was just average this time. Good selection of fried rice and noodles. We had their specialty deep fried chicken nuggets in fried rice which we found meh. Avoid anything seafood as the seafood in our seafood noodles wasn’t cooked enough. The slush drinks were more interesting than the food.

The restaurant motto is “The one and only”, yeah they might be the one and only Chinese restaurant that serves EPIC portions. The fried Taiwanese popcorn chicken is literally the size of your fist. It reminds me of how French restaurants use a mega plate with a tiny piece of duck in the middle, well this restaurant will fill that plate up with food and then some. I swear the chefs are trigger happy. Come here if you love strongmen-size portions. I’m done ranting.

seems like prices jump another couple dollars everytime i visit. seems like this has led some to try other places instead. food and service are still great but geez these guys look overworked i hope they're okay.
Yes. We,re Eating Again.
The One was very busy so evidently, it is a popular haunt for the folks in South Burnaby where it lurks on Buller near Kingsway. This place presents the usual challenge for me at a Taiwanese restaurant namely, an endless selection of things I would like to be eating. We didn't have to wait too long for a table for 7 of us, although it was close to 9 pm on a Sunday evening. So many of us meant a lot of dishes to photograph and comment on. First up was Deep Fried Chicken Skin, certifiably the most unhealthy dish known to man but oh so tasty in small quantities! Best to share rather than making it your main course! The Beef Noodle Soup was impressive also. Beefy and with really decent noodles, some greens and a generous helping of beef balls. My own choice was Stir-Fried Lamb with XO Sauce and Noodles. This was tasty enough and the noodles and sauce were great. However, the lamb bordered on shoe leather. It presented quite a challenge to my jaw and never really did get eaten. The kids like the Ham and Eggs Fried Rice so much so that they got two orders. I thought it was tasty enough. There was a dish of little bites (along with a bowl of rice) which was evidently part of a meal set (I don't remember which). A soy sauce egg, spring roll, something close to kimchee and a sauced beef. The Deep Fried Squid (this might have been the main for the meal set) was a tad on the chewier side. My jaw got more of a workout here than I would usually look for, but the squid was tasty and salty and enjoyable in small portions. Finally, there was Sliced Beef in Pancake. The thinly sliced beef was a tasty addition and was probably my favourite item of our late evening feast. The One is a fairly chic place and they are handling the whole COVID thing well with spacing and taking info for tracking purposes. Our servers were efficient and friendly and had the whole social distancing thing under control.

Huge menu. Please check if they're debit only because if I recall correctly, they are. Despite having a huge menu, really look for the customer favourites. I ventured away from my typical spicy peppery chicken fried rice to have a soup and it was really rather boring. Their bubble tea (slush only I think) is also really cool in that they make a spectacle out of it - they stack it so high!! But the flavour can vary and I recall the tea tasting quite watered down. It's a lot like the Bubble Worlds that serve food but a notch below. Worth the try.

My friends and I were EXTREMELY satisfied with the service at The One restaurant. I have food allergies that are hard to avoid and they went above & beyond to make sure I had something to eat!!! My favourite was the beef onion pancake and the grape slushie!!! THANK YOU!!!

Taste / Temperature / Quality:<br/><br/>The deep Fried Chicken nugget fried rice it a go to. I've had this dish so many times I can't even count. It seems to be getting worse every time I order this though. I will list a few problems. The last few times I've gotten this. <br/><br/>Under salted and no oil so it was very dry. Usually its very heavy in oil. It's not like I like it that way either, but its just how Chinese fried rice is. That and being very salty.<br/><br/>There seems to be less and less Chicken Nuggets in the fried rice as well. This very last time I got this dish, there was maybe 10 pieces total in the whole dish, and you know how big this dish is? There is usually 20 or so I would say.<br/><br/>Another time I got it, I think they deep fried a crap tone of the nuggets because my nuggets were lukewarm at best.<br/><br/>Ambiance / Cleanliness / Service:<br/><br/>Two or three years ago, this place was bumping. Always packed, theses days when ever I go. I just seems to be less and less people. Service is a hit and miss, sometimes its decent, sometimes you don't even get any. We asked for water 4 different times by three different server/waitress and water still never came. If they seat you in the cover, you will never even see a server. Good luck on getting your order in. <br/><br/>You think they raised the price and actually would still give me my share of the Nuggets? NOPE. Don't gyp me.<br/><br/>Overall Value for the money - Okay<br/><br/>Date of Visit - Nov 2019

When I went there today, the price for the food are increased but the food become worst. The satay beef hotpot I have is totally different than before. The beef are thick, tendon, and smelly. The meat ball are like frozen for so long Cos it taste weird.

April, 1, 2019<br/><br/>We went there for lunch. We tried their..<br/><br/>Half beef brisket and beef tendon noodles in soup... soup base was extremely oily and tasteless... it's not worth for $13.<br/><br/>Beef egg wrapped... not much meat inside the soft and oily eggs roll<br/><br/>3 sauce chicken on rice... extremely salty, cannot taste any wine inside, it's taste like fried frozen chicken with oyster sauce and dark soy sauce..<br/>It's worst 3 sauce chicken in my life. Rice was dried and hard. We dont bother to finish it.. taste awful.<br/><br/>Extremely bad services with short chubby wear glasses lady.
SnowballEats
Food is ok. They have chinese menu or taiwanese (not sure) but they offer a variety of food plus bubble teas. Mapo tofu is really spicy! I just did not like the place because it kind of outdated and chairs and tables are not clean - very greasy.

• CASH only or I think they accept Debit cards now<br/>• limited parking space<br/>• busy little place<br/>• Taiwanese style food, I love it<br/>• lots of choices for rice, noodles, soup, bubble tea<br/>• SHARE the bubble tea, I tell you! Servers will say that its for one person, no, it is not, it is huge! <br/>• Their bubble teas are just ok for me, the “fresh” ones doesn’t taste fresh for me<br/>• soups are good, set meals are perfect for one<br/>• service is good, fast and efficient for the most part

I love the bubble tea from here. They really fill it all the way to the top like a mini mountain in a cup! It's tastes really good and the food is also pretty good too!

Great place to come to! Had some pretty great food here! As well as yummy and huge bubble tea! The staff is fast and friendly!  Great place to come with friends

Been into this restaurant twice already. Their fried rice is great. I love the chicken skin and squid tentacles. Service and the place is good. I like the interior. Price is okay. Next time I will try their hotpot.

There aren’t Two Restaurants or Three Restaurants, there’s one, just one! Given its proximity to a now favourite karaoke hangout, some friends and I decided to hit up the One Restaurant, given the somewhat decent reviews that it’s gotten online!. I chose to give the Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets Fried Rice (10.99) a try! I found that the batter was on the thicker side and was crunchy but was a bit bland. The fried rice had a ton of black pepper and was quite flavourful but was a bit on the greasy side. The service was decent here, though it took a damn long time for drinks to come.

Poor service and may have possibly eaten under cooked meat. Most likely from their pork dumplings. Experienced vomiting, mild fever and upset stomach the following morning.

This place is very cool if you're looking for a HUMUNGOUS bubble tea! Definitely good for the snaps. Their deep fried chicken nugget fried rice is also what they're known for. So if you go here you've got to try it! On the down side the service kind of sucks and it's quite cold in their so bring a jacket! But I always go back and recommend it to everyone. Overall the food is great! So they're doing something right :)
FOOD FOR BUDDHA
After a heartbreaking experience at Ali Shan Restaurant 阿里山品味餐廳, I needed something to overcome the heartache.  Something that better resembled the classic "railroad bento 鐵路便當".<br/><br/>After a quick search of local Taiwanese joints, I settled with The One Restaurant 美味關係.  Okay, I admit, I was a bit skeptical about coming here.  You see, our last visit (which was our first) in 2010 was not very pleasant.  While a few dishes were somewhat decent, the horrendous service made the whole experience miserable.<br/><br/>Now, six years later, before walking into the restaurant, I have told myself to stay calm.  Yes, Buddha Girl, stay calm.  Things could have improved since 2010.  And if not, just sing, "Let it go, let it go..."<br/><br/>For $4.75CAD, my large order of Assam Black Tea 阿薩姆紅茶 was, in deed, a large cup.  Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think this was served in a 550ml beer mug?<br/><br/>Anyhow, while the tea was bold, the Assam tea taste was a bit off.  Perhaps the supply source was weak?  I requested less sweet but it was still a bit too sweet for me.  Next time I'd try it half sweet.<br/><br/>At $4.50CAD/order, The One Green Onion Egg Roll 香蔥蛋餅 had decent amount of scallions but the egg was too overcooked.  The dough was quite thick and the drizzled sauce was overly salty.  No improvement since our first/last visit.<br/><br/>I was satisfied with my $10.75CAD order of Taiwanese Railway Style Sausage with Rice 鐵路香腸便當.  I know, I know, this did not truly resemble the classic "railroad bento 鐵路便當" because the sides were on a separate plate instead of presenting everything in the tin box.  But hey, this was a lot better than Ali Shan Restaurant 阿里山品味餐廳, right?<br/> <br/>The round tin box had two links of Taiwanese sausage on the top tray while the bottom level had white rice topped with pork meat sauce and accented with Chinese sauerkraut (aka. pickled mustard greens).<br/><br/>The sausages were plump and savory with just the right amount of sweetness.  Of course, the links here couldn't really go wrong, unless the kitchen does something funky with it.  The sausage links are made by the famous tea duck supplier.  Those who have followed our blog for years would know what I'm talking about...<br/><br/>The pork sauce had a higher ratio of lean meat with an one-dimensional flavor of soy sauce.  This lacked that fundamental sweet aromas of cinnamon and shallots.<br/><br/>The sides were simple so nothing much to comment about.<br/><br/>The tin box was a special edition sold to the public to celebrate 123 operating years of Taiwan Railways Administration 臺灣鐵路管理局.<br/> <br/>I had two take-out items for Buddha Boy.  The first was Meat Sauce on Steamed Rice 台式滷肉飯 for $8.75CAD.  Any difference between this bento and my railway box?  This had no sausage links and one side dish was different.<br/><br/>The Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets 鹽酥雞 was the second to-go item.  This had sizeable chunks of chicken that were lightly coated and well fried.  Gentle use of five-spice blend mingled gracefully with basil.  While this was a good improvement since our first/last visit., for $7.50CAD/order, this was expensive.<br/><br/>Service was much. much, much, much, much better than our first/last visit.  Maybe because I visited during off-peak hours?<br/><br/>With a baby in carriage, the servers were accommodating and told me I could sit anywhere.  Hey, that's a good start.  Throughout the meal, servers came and checked on how I was doing.  Empty dishes were collected promptly and hot tea was regularly replenished.<br/><br/>After this experience, I'd return again.  Hopefully it's not just a one off.

A friend recommended this restaurant so we tried it. Portions were big but the server should have told us that all dishes would come with rice (also in huge portions) so we ended up with bowls of unfinished rice. Food were not that great except for the sweet & sour pork. A few waiters were rude and very slow in meeting our requests. The place was surprisingly crowded.
Jentaro
Portions are big, prices are reasonable. More importantly the food tastes authentic. I'm a fan of their fried rice and noodles. The giant slush drinks are a must try.

Love this place cause portions are quite big and always have left overs to go. Food is always hot. Entree prices range from $9-15. Good variety of dishes on menu. Chicken nugget fried rice is always a favourite. Homestyle fried noodles are good too. Slush drinks are HUGE...can share between two people. Restaurant is always playing Karaoke music videos which is cool.

Not going to lie...sometimes I choose where to eat based on portion size alone (I know, I know, how very un-blogger like of me.) No shame!.   I can't help it okay. I'm a ravenous student...on a budget!! And given the modest portion sizes at *most* restaurants, I usually have to spend $40 + to get full.<br/> <br/><br/>  Not at the One!! For less than $20, I can fill my bottomless pit of a stomach :D When I'm feeling especially famished (which is pretty much all.the.time) I order their gigantic pork chop or a fried rice!<br/><br/>  Oh, have you guys noticed? The tea at the One, always, and I mean always tastes like dish soap! My mom agrees with me, so I swear it's not in my head!! We told one of the servers and he didn't say anything...he just nodded...
Shemomedjamo.yvr
DAMNNN serving size here is huge! .. or atleaste when i tried it a year ago hahah. Their slush bubble tea also seems to be pretty popular as they mound it onto and it tower above all other drinks. Not my favourite place for food and drinks but its your classic asian food stop at night.
Vancity Food Guy
This place gets crazy busy all the time. Whenever I drop off my beamer to get service next door, I pop by here. They are known for their gigantic slush drinks, and I mean TOWERING folks. Don't even be embarrassed to ask for another cup to share it's crazy huge.<br/>The chicken nugget fried rice is another known dish here too. It's a big plate that would feed two people as well, shared. Washrooms are clean, service is good, ambiance is good. They play alot of Asian music, and karaoke music on the screens lol. Parking gets taken up quick in the lot. You can always Park infront of the other businesses when it's closed.<br/>
Jelizatin Eats
The One is known for their gigantic bubble tea drinks, but unfortunately that was the only positive thing we can say. We ordered two bubble tea drinks, which were huge but the bubble tea isn't that great. We also ordered the deep fried squid and fried rice. The squid was okay, nothing special, and the fried rice was not good at all; very salty and heavy. We couldn't finish the bubble tea so we asked them to pack it up, and the amount we took home was much less than what we had left. <br/><br/>Prices are okay, but service is terrible. We won't be back.

Food is ok. We ordered Kung Pao Tofu and its super salty. We asked them to remake it and it was not that salty anymore after that. Then I ordered a lychee slush and it was sooo sweet, plus some of the bubbles looks weird.  Some are light brown not dark brown to black which how they should be. We also asked for extra spoons so we can share the slush, then the waiter just threw the spoons at our table. It was the worst service I have ever experienced.
Candy_foodie
I was told thos restaurant slush is very long. Its double size of their glass cup. 2 people can share one drink. Their food are a little big portion comparing to other bubble tea restaurant and the price are okay. We had the beef curry and sliced pork with garlic sauce. The beef curry has very little beef, but a lot of curry. The pork is pretty good. The service is not that good.

We finally cracked open a fresh bag of rice today!! Yesiree, we finally polished off our crappy bag of long grain rice :D.   So to celebrate, we went to Rice World in Chinatown and bought a huge bag of KOKUHO RICE!! My dad asked me which rice I wanted (out of the 50+ options) and I was like "The best one." hehehe ~ I'm a rice bucket okay!!<br/><br/>Dad: "It's almost $60 a bag?!! It's 3 times the price of regular rice!!"<br/><br/>Me: "Well, they're famous for a reason."<br/><br/>Mom: "Kokuho is very good."<br/><br/>Dad: "Fine, let's try it."<br/><br/>  Needless to say, we weren't disappointed. The rice was SO GOOD. My dad was like "Wowww, this rice brings me back to Japan!" Usually he only eats one bowl of rice, but yesterday he ate two! I ended up eating 3 PLATES WORTH (I'm sure you're not surprised.)<br/><br/>  Yea, I highly recommend that you guys go out and get yourself a bag of Kokuho (This isn't sponsored btw, just sharing the love ya'll)<br/><br/> So why am I going on a tangent about rice in this post? Welll, as you can see, I pretty much only order fried rice when I go to the One. I know, I know, I should really branch out ~ but I just can't veer from my beloved RICE!!! Plus, my dad never let's me order fried rice (he thinks it's not worth the money) so I was pretty much deprived of fried rice my entire life :'(

Wanted some late night eats and we knew that The One has huge portions. Haven't been to this place in a while so didn't remember how the food was. We ordered the Kung Pao chicken noodles but we're served the rice instead. We were so hungry, we didn't want to wait for a new dish so we didn't mention it. The dish was big *of course* but it seemed to have one note only: salty.

The One Restaurant is a popular later-ish nite Taiwanese place that I’ve been meaning to try for ages — especially since I discovered that they had deep fried chicken skins. The food isn’t particularly well-executed, but the prices are reasonable, portions big, and the service (for our visit) was actually fairly quick and prompt.
Penny And Rusty
The One Restaurant, however, isn’t a Scottish eatery or a haven for immortals. No, it’s one of the many Taiwanese shops that have popped up around Metro Vancouver. In many ways, The One is just like all of those other Taiwanese bubble tea shops… slightly stylized interiors that have gotten a bit tired from overuse, large menu of snacks and bubble tea, annoying diners taking too many pictures of their food… oh, wait…

Yesterday, Tray, Cinders, Addy, Vince and I went to The One for dinner. I've always seen pictures of there mega big slushies but it was my first time eating there. <br/><br/>The One is a Taiwanese restaurant located in a small plaza on Kingsway, closest to the Royal Oak skytrain station. Walking in, I was surprised to see how modern and big the venue was. <br/><br/>Their menu features a variety of cold appetizers, rice, noodle, and hotpot dishes. A lot of the items come in a combo set, with a bowl of rice and some appetizers to complete a satisfying meal. The appetizers that Cinders, Addy, Vince and Tray got with their meal sets include green bean with minced pork, spiced cabbage, cellophane noodles and curried potatoes and carrots. They ordered Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets, The One Deluxe Pork Chop (with BBQ sauce), Spicy Chestnut Chicken and Sweet and Sour Pork. Everyone was content with their food, and especially with the large portions! <br/><br/>We shared 2 slushes among the five of us- grape and lychee. I didn't really like these in terms of flavour because they were both artificial tasting and overly sweet... However, the consistency is on point! They were thick and smooth, with no icy chunks at all. (3/5)<br/><br/>For myself, I ordered the Seasonal Vegetables Bean Thread in soup. Bean thread is a type of cellophane noodles with a chewy, toothsome texture. I was surprised how much there was in here! The broth was also flavourful, although a bit oily, but it was still delicious. On the other hand, I was expecting more than the scarce leaves of bok choy with the "seasonal vegetables".. (3/5)<br/><br/>Service was a bit slow, and it was hard to get the staff's attention. Generally speaking though, it was a decent, inexpensive meal. <br/><br/>Food: 3/5 | Service: 3/5 | Value: 4/5 | Ambiance: 4/5<br/>

As soon as I enter here...I utter an order that is permanent...Chicken Nugget Fried Rice. It's just good, it really is. It's fried rice with taiwanese chicken nuggets, gai lan stems and thai basil. Bubble Tea Slushes are massive and good for sharing. I recommend to go with a group since food servings are huge.

Food was pretty good. Ordered "Chicken Knee" and "Eggplant with ground beef sauce". It tasted delicious and not too salty. The eggplant dish came with a small bowl of rice and some side dishes which I was pretty amazed about! You certainly get a lot of food with what you order. The only thing I was disappointed about was the "Japanese Green Smoothie". It barely had any taste. It was just like drinking green slush with a hint of sugar. Other than that, it was a good food experience.
Ah
First time coming here, it was busy and was greeted immediately which is always a plus for small Asian restaurants. While sitting us down they also gave us tea, looking through three different menus; good menu, drink menu and a shaved iced menu-at first glance very overwhelming. <br/>There was 5 sides to the food menu, sorting through to see what we wanted and also peering into other tables to see what looked good, we decided on the Taiwanese chicken nugget fried rice and the deep fried basa fish with chili sauce. Great, next comes the deciding of drinks; which ranges from bubble tea, milk tea, fresh fruit drinks, herbal tea with a spin etc. I chose the rose/fruit tea iced (small) and boyfriend got the green apple slush. <br/><br/>Proportion wise is amazing, you're really getting your money's worth. <br/>The food was nothing special, kind of disappointed with the Taiwanese chicken, the fish was good until you got the sauce. Side dishes for the fish(set meal) we only touched the egg stores fried with tomatoes and the peas. So if you're looking for some amazing dishes for dinner this isn't the place-- <br/>Drink wise- both drinks were good. The tea was light and refreshing and the green apple wasn't too sweet, so probably will be back for drinks and maybe to share if I'm around, definitely wouldn't go out of my way.

I've visited multiple times, for different experiences. I've visited for the bubble tea slush, which was a great time because I was so amazed with the portion size. The wide selection of flavours have something for everybody! I wasn't convinced by the food here though. The MSG levels are very high, as I left feeling very thirsty (even though I had a drink with my meal). The options on the menu are all very close to each other, and can be pricey for what you get. One item I fell in love with was the kimchi fried rice. It's $12.99 (I think) and the portion is enough for 3-4 people (if you order other dishes to go with it). Not in love with the service either, but that's not surprising for Chinese restaurants. I'd come back, but it wouldn't be my first choice for places to dine.
Marv Wang
For some reason, everytime i'm here it's because i was following some other people's decision. I have no complaint about this restaurant about the portion. as they do give good portions.<br/><br/>however in terms of the taste, it's decent but i'll say a little bit too common i'll say, something that is normal, and i just think it's too normal that I don't see the point buying a chao fun for around the price of $9 for it. <br/><br/>In general i wouldn't say the place is a bad place, as the ambience is a good one, they kept playing music from china/tw/hk as well. but I do however think that it's too normal to be pricy for me, maybe i'm just not their target customer :(( and the server are nice, friendly and attentive, nothing to complain about :)
Vinita Trieu
I usually don't come all the way here for bubble tea or Taiwanese fried chicken but I was in the area so I decided to stop by. This place always seems super packed whenever I come by and they are definitely understaffed. We never got any refills on our water and the waitress forgot one of our dishes. We asked another waitress and he told us he'd check but we never heard back from him either. Besides that, the food is like any other place, nothing particularly special. The tall slush is worth getting for the picture but not necessarily for taste
DineVancity
Sure their bubble tea is stacked high, but it's not exactly the best. The place is nice and clean and the staff are welcoming. The service sometimes takes a while though.
Joshua Hueller
The one is an experience that people should check out for sure. The bubble teas they have are sky high and definitely are a fun item to order. The quality is not bad, of course it's gonna be a bit too icy since there's so much of it but thats just to be expected. I ordered the kung pao chicken, which I usually order when I go to bubble tea places and I found it to be quite good. Overall this place is a sweet place with fun bubble tea and good food.
Carmentsemakeup
Huge Bubble Teas!. Takes a while to be seated as its always busy!. Servers are a bit slow however if you want a treat! Get any of the slush bubble teas.~ PS: you will need to share with someone as they are HUGE, comes with a extra cup haha. Food isn't bad. Deep Fried Chicken is good and any of the rice dishes are great too! =)

This review is for 07/01/2015.<br/><br/>Bad service, and pricey for tasteless food-- everything tastes very bland.<br/>Please do not trust this restaurant if you have allergies to certain foods.<br/><br/>I find it really, really, funny that it states on the menu that if you cannot eat certain foods (due to allergies, etc...) to let the kitchen know. My friend ordered the chicken with three spices, and she specifically stated that she CANNOT eat pork, beef, or seafood. Our waiter insisted that the dish was chicken only, yet it came out mixed in with fish cakes. Instead of bringing the dish back we were told that the kitchen would not take it back, their reasoning being that the dish was already made. We had to talk to two different people for 10 minutes to cancel the order. Very unprofessional-- they should have taken it back right away, especially when my friend stated that she could not eat seafood. Were they trying to kill her?<br/><br/>One of the waitresses told us that "sometimes they put fish cakes, sometimes they don't, and sometimes they put other ingredients instead." She also told us that they do this to their other dishes as well, as it was "normal" for them to randomly add or take away ingredients for each of their menu items. This means that their dishes are not made the same way each time, and this also means that there is no way in hell the waitresses and waiters can keep track of what is in their dishes. <br/><br/>On an even worse note, the waiter that took away my friend's order rolled his eyes at us, and took the plates away in a loud and rude manner. He didn't bother asking her if she'd like something else to order, and there were no apologies, nothing. It was also very clear that the waiters and waitresses were ignoring our table after that. It took another 5-10 minutes for her to place a new order, and when our waiter brought it out to us, he slammed it on our table, which totally caught us off guard, and not to mention the amount of vegetables that came with the meal was noticeably less than the previous order. <br/><br/>They made it very clear that we were not welcomed there.<br/>We will not be coming back, and I do not recommend this place to anyone. <br/>No one, not even their dog should eat here.<br/><br/>(Other details)<br/>My friend had the chicken with three spices-- she cancelled that order after what happened, and ordered the popcorn chicken with rice instead. I had the seafood hotpot. Both meals were below average. I'd give this restaurant a 0/5.

Food is good. Mediocre service.. Ordered a coffee slush, deluxe fried chicken meal set, and a satay lamb hotpot for a company of three.<br/><br/>Even though the restaurant was only about 60% full with customers, the waiters weren't too attentive. Once we guestured to the waiter that we were ready to order, he merely glanced at us without acknowledgement - not even a nod or smile! Thankfully another waiter picked up the message and came to us.<br/><br/>I enjoyed the slush and fried chicken. The hotpot looked pretty small at first, but it's actually quite packed with veggies, meat, and noodles. I love how sweet the soup was(even though there was hints of MSG). The slush is pretty cheap for only 5.75 for the amount.<br/><br/>Would 10/10 go back again to try some of their other food.

Good Value But... .. This place is good. Good taste, good value, always busy <br/>But.. too much MSG. <br/>Thirsty after having the Japanese Oden<br/><br/>Coworkers leave their fried rice in the fridge at work for more than a month or two. The look of the rice didn't change at all.

Good food, HORRIBLE service. Two of my cousins (*K & *E) and I went to The One for lunch the other day because it was close to one of K's workplace. E and I decided to get there early and order the food right away as K only had 30 mins for lunch.<br/><br/>E and I got there right at 12:00 and ordered as soon as we we were seated. 10 mins went by and, because I'm observant, I notice that 3 other tables also placed their orders. The food we ordered does not take that long to make as most of it is deep fried anyway. 30 mins passed by and my cousin K arrived expecting the food to already be at our table, as did I. I noticed within those 30 minutes that the THREE tables that ordered AFTER me had received their food in less than 10 minutes. <br/><br/>I got the attention of one of the waiters and asked him to see where our food was. I watched as he went to the computer to see what we had ordered. I couldn't make out what he was saying but I noticed he was asking OUR waiter something. Our waiter then replied and went to the computer and started putting our order in. It was clear to me that he had not placed our order into the machine! Instead of coming to our table to tell us what had happened, he avoided eye contact and walked away from our table.<br/><br/>Once again, I got the attention of another waiter, this time it was a woman. I told her I wanted our food brought out immediately as my cousin had to be back to work in 10 minutes and we had ordered over 40 minutes ago. She tried to apologize by saying that the computer OUR waiter used was broken and that the kitchen didn't get the order and that our waiter did not have very good english. This was no doubt BS because we saw OUR waiter putting the order in the machine and they never brought us a "receipt" which they use to check off the items we've ordered. I was visibly upset and told her that was not an acceptable excuse. He should have come to us and told us about the "malfunction". I expected a discount on our meal but of course I was told they can't give discounts on anything. She asked if we wanted to cancel our order instead - to which we said no because we had already been waiting 45 minutes and were hungry. We weren't about to leave and find somewhere else to eat. She said they could take off "One slush" from our order. <br/><br/>I have gone to a proper restaurant where our food was served cold because they had a large party and they quickly re-made our food and compensated our ENTIRE meal PLUS alcohol and the management at THE ONE could only compensate FIVE DOLLARS for a slush. Ridiculous. <br/><br/>Upon receiving our bill for our meal I noticed that they had not taken the slush off as they said they would. Our meal came to $47+ dollars but they definitely did not deserve my money. I left enough money for the kitchen staff because it was not their fault we had such horrible service.<br/><br/>I am telling everyone I know about the horrible service at this "restaurant" is.

Most expensive BBT takeout ever. I paid $6.30 after tax(green apple green tea with pearls) with a 700ml takeout cup whereas outside would only need $4.80 after tax for the same cup, quality (or even better pearls) BBT.<br/><br/>Just let you know, this is a total 31.25% more expensive than normal price.

Bad food, bad drinks, bad service.. Best quantity, worst quality of food. i didn't like their humongous bubble tea either because i could taste less of the flavor, they seemed to just add extra extra ice to make it in a bigger size.
Daniel David
Worst customer service. I've never met so many rude servers in my life. I love the food but the service was not worth getting pissed off that. Not to mention how seemingly racist they are.
That Girl
Could use some work.. Food is bad. Drinks are bad. HOWEVER the tall bubble teas are really exciting. Atmosphere is cute.
Kma604
It was an awful experience there. The waiter was pretty rude and ignored me in front of the kids. I was going to ask him something. They asked me, What's wrong with him? I told them, he's rude. I wish if I've said to him, why are you being a jerk? He came to me to the cashier and showed me something if I left something on the table. I just ignored him and walked out.

Great food, TERRIBLE service. First of all, parking was a pain in the ass when we went last week. <br/><br/>Went with friends, table of 5, and even though the restaurant was not busy (can clearly see all the empty tables) it still took about 5 minutes for someone to greet us and another 5 minutes to get seated. <br/><br/>We sat down and we all looked through the menu. NO ONE came to take our order ... Not one server looked our way. The table next to us was experiencing the exact same problem. 20 minutes later ... One of us had to walk over to someone to get their attention. Even at that, it took another 5 minutes for them to get to us, which is completely unacceptable. The lady who took our order seemed annoyed and was actually so rude to us. We ignored it because we were all so hungry and just wanted our food.<br/><br/>Ordered the Thai spicy seafood & sliced pork hot, and chicken nuggets. Which were amazing. The portions are very generous. The chicken nuggets were exactly like the ones made in Taiwan. And the hot pot was tasty. Spicy, but filled with flavor ... The only thing is there were only 2 slices of pork. <br/><br/>All in all, I didn't tip very well. I would definitely come back again for the food, but the service here definitely needs some improvement.
Jdoey777
Tried it out because of relatives and was surprised by flavours, angered by system of service. The service is horrible from the men, the one girl server was professional and nice, and actually remembered to do the things which were asked. If you go here expecting good service you will not like it, but if you want to eat a good environment, with good prices, and exceptional Taiwanese flavours then this is the place for you. Their deep fried chicken and rice is like going to Taiwan. I loved the food in Taiwan when I was there and this place duplicates it almost to perfection. At least in the simple street kinds of foods. What they need is to hire better servers, people who actually smile and look you in your eyes, or hire someone to train their current servers, because what I saw was very angry people not being served.
Maggie
GREAT!. I don't know why there are such negative reviews but the service was very good. We were seated right away and they took our orders as soon as we were ready. The slush drinks were very good, they were very tall! They seperate it into another cup so it doesn't fall over; I would definitely come back!
Angel2o7
Rude.... When the restaurant first opened everyone was hyped up about the super tall bubble teas....however, time went on the service has been bad and the rules are retarded. I was with a group of friends and there were 4 of us altogther, it took us 15 minutes to get seated and 10 minutes to get a menu, and it took an even longer time for us to order. 3 out of 4 of us were hungry and the 4th person didnt want to eat so we just decided to share amongst the three of us so we got 2 bubble teas and a dish... the server would not let us place the order because ALL OF THE PEOPLE AT THE TABLE HAD TO ORDER. WHAT TYPE OF BOGUS RULE IS THAT... you guys just lost us as customers and our network of friends ......... displeased -.-
Happy_tony32
I heard my friends..there kitchen is very dirty.he was working there..

After hearing about this restaurant from a few friends, I thought I'd check it out. The only thing my friends talked about was the bubble tea. The bubble tea was okay, other places have better bubble tea. I got bubble tea the first time (the slush melted fast). I thought id give it a second go with my friends. this time we we're curious about their food menu. Food was disgusting. I'm sorry but I've never had food that bad. Their noodle smelted horrible, seasoning was bland and their dishes are expensive. We went as a group a group of four. My one friend didn't want to buy anything. They said we couldn't do that, we all had to buy something. The only good thing I had was the deep fried chicken nugget. Also, have to add: I was in line for a while, a group came in after me and got seated right away.. What the hell. Service: 1/5<br/>Food: 0.5/5 <br/>Environment: 3/5

I went to this place with my friend on Friday night and I ordered a deep fried pork chop pot with rice. When the food came, I felt that the pork chop already looked too over cooked and did not look that good but I still tried to eat because I am not a picky person at all. During half way of eating, my throat was like burning as if thousands of pins were attacking me. All of a sudden, my entire mouth was FULL OF BLOOD!!! You know what, their dreaming pork chop was like stone like and it cut my throat!! The waitresses did not even apologize and tried to push the responsibility back to me, in which I was so pissed!!! Thereafter I went to hospital for check, and the result was that the pork chop was too hard to cut my throat, GUYS seriously, never go there!!!!!! I have uploaded few photos for proofs.

The One to try. The One is a bustling hotspot in the evenings for the Highgate crowd. I visited twice and order chicken fried rice both times. The serving was exceptionally large for the price, but I found it too salty both times. I also tried the edamame - which seemed about the same as everywhere else. The real hazelnut milk tea was tasty.<br/><br/>The atmosphere is hip and modern with good lighting, upbeat music and creative decor. Service is slow and a bit confusing, but friendly.<br/><br/>Tip: The slush teas are abnormally large - if you're going with a friend you can share one and still have more than you need.
Whitemamba
Slow service. Only good when there's nothing else to go at night. Average food. I saw someone pee in the soap.
Iris
Tasteless and Over priced. I gave this place three chance to prove themselves (and because my friends wanted to go) but they have all failed. Everything is flavourless. Their specialty high stacked bubble tea is watered down to have enough slush to make it tower off. it tasted like water to me. It's always packed at night that their service is horrible. their food is below average. i ordered salt and peppery chicken once and it lacked both the salt AND the pepper. another time i got the noodle which wasn't even memorable. last time i went i got the deep fried buns. the waiter didn't even take my order properly because he gave me the mini deep fried buns. i didn't mind but it came out soggy and a nice glaze of oil on my plate. i asked for a refund and why it wasn't even crunchy and they just said that it's supposed to be like that and they can't even give me a refund. never going back.
John Smith
Awesome bubble tea and very affordable.
Vin
Been here a few times and every time we have to wait. The reason I'm finally writing a review is because of the wait time and that the older lady (maybe the owner) had us write out name on a wait list and after some time there was a free table and a couple just walked in, she happily greeted the arriving customers and took them to the table. I believe this service is not acceptable and that I must share with others. Will I return? Probably not because of this long wait. Although drinks are big but cost more.
Chelsey
Bad service and bad presentation with their food. I was waiting for 20 mins just to order. I also had to ask them twice for hot sauce. When the food came out I was excited but then it looked like everything was just tossed on to a plate. It was horrible I will never go back there again.
Jen Chien
Dont expect to get served if youre sitting near the window. The serversgo to the other tables then turn their back right away and dont make sure if.there are other customers that require their service. I had to go up to the counter and ask for a server. Their food was decent, not the best but not the worst.
Lucky Lady
Just by looking at their menu shows they r over self-confident, after meal you'll realize food are too salty and dun match the price, server are really nice but the owner's too tense.
YumVegGrub
Known for fruit slushes. I find the teas and slushes here decent, although not nearly as nice as Pearl House just a few blocks east. Sour Plum isn't sour enough for me. The service when we have been by has always been very, very good (especially with helping to choose a likable drink) and friendly. Food is definitely overpriced and as others stated already not the best quality around, but I find this of many mainly beverage late night spots, so it is not below my expectation. I like the atmosphere. Last time we were in, I was concerned though about the cleanliness of the glasses/cups etc. Dishwasher problems maybe? <br/>Anyway, overall a neat spot with most often decent drinks to stop in late night.
Hungry Genghis
Overpriced. If the dishes were priced $2-3 less, then this would be a great place giving you decent food at a fair price price. However, the way they have chosen to price their food does make you feel you are getting somewhat ripped off, especially if you consider the mediocre standard of food you are getting in return. Obviously this works for the restaurant as there seems to be plenty of custom. However, I know what's good value for money and this isn't it. Especially considering it's not a place you get dolled up to go to.

Used to be good. I've been going to The One since it opened, and it was one of my favourite places to go, hands down. Over the last few years, it's gaining a lot of recognition for it's towering slush. It's cool and all, but pushing it at $6. Servings pretty big, but I wouldn't say astounding taste in anyway. Just average tasting food with gimmicky slushes, and way too overpriced now.
Russel S
Overpriced. Overproportionate. Overrated.
Bunnybun
Food is ok, but the rest is bad. Most of the food I've tried here are ok. The deep fried chicken, fish fillet, tentacles, and Taiwanese fried rice are all tasty. The wonton soup I didn't like very much as the soup tasted bland. Drinks are just ok, I would still prefer other bubble tea places for bubble tea. The thing that annoys me about this place is the service and the very noisy and cramped atmosphere. Service is slow in general, the tables are situated so close to each other, it feels like you're dining with strangers beside you, and it's very very noisy. I always get a headache after going here.

This is beyond one of the worse places I went to.<br/>The first time I went there, wasn't that bad. Got there, was seated quickly because it wasn't very busy, only went cause I saw photos of how huge the BBT was. BBT wasn't really special, you get sick of it quickly and its meant to be shared between two people unless you can drink a lot - other than that itd melt in the other cup (you would know what I mean if you have ordered BBT from here). Food wise, fried rice is huge, could be sharable for 2-3 people. And I didn't bother trying the other things but it was nothing special besides being a large dish.<br/><br/>My second time there tonight was just terrible. When I got there it was quite busy, but I stayed at the area where it says "please wait to be seated" and okay, so I wait. Soon 2 more people line up behind me and was waiting to be served as well. The third person who lined up just went right infront of me and took the list of whose waiting to be seated and wrote her name down. And the guy behind me took it right away to put his name and number of party down. I was pretty choked as I thought you were suppose to wait for the server to do that ... So technically I had to wait longer with my friends. Okay ... no big deal. When we were seated, we were handed the menus immediately, we were not asking whether if we wanted the basic - tea or water. As my friend ordered, she asked for recommendation on what was good and sharable and the waitress suggested some noodle that was only meant for one person - did not realize it until it came, and it tasted plain. After we me and my other friend realized we couldn't quite share the noodle with her, we called someone to help us order fried rice, and they said they would get someone to help us. 10 minutes later, still no one, so we had to ask again and they said they did not help us order. Wait some more ... Got the BBT, and as I tried to take a photo of it, the waitress poured my drink onto another cup and spilled some of the drink on the table. When we asked someone to wipe it, they only half wiped the area as the other area of the table was still wet. The BBT that was ordered came with one straw but it was shared with another friend so I asked one of the waitress to get me another straw. She did not come back ever as I was waiting so I had to ask someone else again to get it. The utensils provided for the tea we ordered wasn't cleaned properly as there are still residues on it.<br/><br/>Overall .. it was a terrible place to dine at, over priced for the BBT (I would recommend bubble world anyday over this garbage), only thing that is worth it is the size of the fried rice, but its really something you can find at any other Chinese restaurants. Service is absolutely terrible, I don't know why would anyone want to come here. Definitely never coming back here again!
Okonomiyaki
The food is okay but the service is really bad. Once they were pretty busy, the owner and waitors came every minute to. check on us. I asked a waitor if they have a policy for the duration a customer can occupy a table, he answered no. Then he said they want the customers out quickly if they are busy. Even so you still have to respect the customers.

Great Energy and those 3 Foot colorful slushies!. The Environment:<br/>Great energy to this place. Designer really nailed the ambience. Food items plated in cute and contemporary serveware. <br/>The Food:<br/>Appears to have improved somewhat of late. Recommend the beef pancake, the fried rice options are yummy but tad oily for my own liking. The hot deluxe milk tea is v pricey.(owners need to turn profit). Dramatic colorful slushies(such eye candies to any age group).<br/>Vibrant place to meet for night snacks. <br/>Parking is not difficult.

Pretty good for a bubble tea joint. Probably my favourite bubble tea cafe style restaurant in Burnaby, but not because of the bubble tea. Their bubble tea selection is actually kinda small, but they make it really good. Actually full flavoured and not watered down unlike a lot of other bubble tea places in Burnaby. There are a couple drinks I need to ask them to halve the sugar though. The food is really good too, very large portions. Some dishes have a tad too much oil, but really you don't go to a bubble tea cafe for the healthy eating. I try to go here often but they sure are busy on certain days for such a large establishment, which is a testament to their food quality I guess. They might need to hire another server though because it usually takes a while to flag somebody down for service.

HUGE Slushies - Mediocre Food. Went here with a few co-workers for lunch a few weeks back and had a mediocre experience. We shared a number of dishes including a beef and egg pancake appetizer, salty peppery chicken, gyoza and we also shared three entrées including a lamb hot pot, spicy pork noodles and a chicken fried rice of sorts. While the entrées were generous in size, they lacked flavour and quality ingredients. I felt like there was not a ton of meat in the dishes in proportion to the dish size. Also the lamb hot pot was extremely gamey - which could have just been because it was lamb - but still, not very pleasant.<br/><br/>I ordered a mango slush bubble tea and marvelled at the novelty of it's size, but 1/3 of the way through it got to be a bit much. They let me take the rest home, but it just turned into a disgusting syrupy mess. I've had much better slush bubble tea for a fraction of the price.<br/><br/>I wouldn't recommend this restaurant - there are far more superior Taiwanese restaurants along Kingsway to go to.
Annie Chu
Delicious and gigantic portions. Try the Fried Chicken Nugget Fried Rice!
Sunshine
Portions are quite large ~ love the towering slush drinks ! (:
Saeryn Correll
Busy, but not bad.. Came here with some friends and had to wait twenty minutes for a table. The food isn't a bad price and you get a lot of it. Ditto for the drinks. The one issue is the service, where everyone is running around and sometimes you have to repeat yourself a few times before you get what you want. They also enforce times and not playing games at the tables during busy hours to keep the turnover going. I'd go back, but probably when it's not as busy.
Chubby Chick
Too greasy. I wasn't too impressed the first time I visited for the drinks, so for the second time around I decided to try their supposedly signature beef soup noodles. The soup was basically covered with a thick layer of oil, and the beef chunks were dry and dark as charcoal. I barely got through half of the bowl because it was so heavy. My friends ordered the hot pots and fried rice - the hot pots were definitely overpriced and the fried rice was coated with a thick layer of oil, too.
Hungrybaby
I thought this is just another typical bubble tea/ Taiwanese restaurant, but no, it's very different from the other ones. <br/>Their food portions are HUGE!! at least twice as big as the dishes from other bbt joints. 4 of us shared an appy seaweed, Taiwanese style fried vermicelli and Deep fried chicken nuggets fried rice. We were stuffed but still had a little bit of left over. Deep fried chic fried rice was so yummy! it was very flavorful, one of the best fried rice I ever had!! The vermicelli was good too, the noodle was not too soft and was fried to perfection. the appy seaweed was just okay, could make that myself. <br/>My friend ordered a blueberry slush. it was tall!! she had to shared it with another friend.( It's hard to spoon the slush into another glass if you wanna share, so ask the server, they would do a little show in front of u)<br/>Drinks are just mediocre. I ordered a green milk tea with grass jelly but it had no jelly. but the server assured me that it was what I ordered. <br/>overall, just go there for the food. gotta make reservations ahead there is long wait during dinner time.
Cheeseburger
Service is atrocious. Two groups that came later got seated before us although we had the same number of people... we complained and they said they were prepping our table. however there was no one setting up our table... so they outright lied to us. We sat there for 10mins without anyone even serving us water. Ridiculous! Im disappointed with both the service here AND the bad service plus food at their original location Lao Shan Dong.
Allen Mak
We always like the food here but the service is something that require improvement. We went there for lunch today. After we ordered the food, the waitress brought us the utensil. We didn't have any tea so we asked for it. We waited for the tea and the food came. So, we asked again for some tea. We waited and waited again. By the time we finished and ready to pay the bill, the tea is still not given to us. Well, then we didn't leave them much tips.

Fooled by the line up .... You know how whenever there's a line up, there HAS to be a reason? So far I have followed this principal with pretty decent results. This restaurant is an anomaly. <br/><br/>I never knew you can ruin anything deep-fried. The salt and peppery chicken was neither salt nor peppery. <br/><br/>I was leered into this restaurant, also, by the size of those slushes. I ordered a slush ... for 6 something ... so it really wasn't a bang for your buck. It was dumb of me not to realize that the mile-high slush needed ICE to contribute to its structure integrity. Essentially, it was like eating plain shaved ice. It was uber tasteless.<br/><br/>So sad. I want my money back.
Ennelala
Bubble tea portions are very generous, but nothing too special on the taste. Service on the other hand was bad. The waitress seemed unwelcoming, lazy and unprofessional. Not to mention, we HAD to order at least 4 things on the menu or else you couldn't get anything. Overall it's alright, it's not the first place I'd recommend to a friend
Roadie
Too expensive. And they built in 15% tips into the bill. Food not worth the price and service don't warrant the premium.
MMC
Great Ambience but Bland Bubble Tea. The atmosphere is great and busy and the decor makes the place look lively BUT I've been here on 3 occasions and everytime I have bubble tea it's always bland and tasteless. It's like they've diluted it just to make that huge pile of bubble tea that they serve.
Kaka921
Not worth the price..... So I finally tried this place after hearing quite a few times about itbut I don't think I will go back again. The food is expensive and not worth the price.....<br/><br/>I ordered a kimchi hot pot and my friend ordered a chicken nuggets with noodles in soup, and a bubble tea<br/><br/>so what's in my kimchi hotpot? a lot of veggie, some rice cake and tofu, 3 or 4 thin slices of luncheon meat in half, and 2 tiny slices of pork! a bowl of rice was included, for $10.95 (ok maybe you can argue that it's just a kimchi hotpot so there is supposed to be a lot of kimchi, but I have tried the same dish from other places and all of them did a lot better work and cheaper in price too)<br/><br/>my frd's chicken nuggets with noodles. The chicken nuggets were ok, but the noodles was absolutely tasteless.......$10.50<br/><br/>bubble tea was $4.45<br/><br/>total came to $30 after tax. I don't mind if it was a satisfying meal, but I felt like I had vegetarian food and the food wasn't quite filling......<br/><br/>with price like that, I rather go somewhere else......
Winnie M
Hmm average food.... Tried their chicken Cutlet combo, the special pork cutlet rice combo, the one beef hotspot, mango slush, and green tea slush on separate visits. I think the fruity slushy drinks are well worth the price as in it comes in unbelievably huge portions and it does its job as fruity slush the green tea slush could be a lot more creamier... It was refreshing tho if you are not into the whole creamy thing..<br/>I'd say that the chicken cutlet rice combo was fine. The chicken cutlet was quite juicy and I enjoyed the lemon mayo dipping sauce very much. However the seemingly impressive pork cutlet rice combo was a disaster. The pork was dry and flavorless it tasted like a piece of paper when it got a little cold at the end. The hotpot was actually very decent with ample amount of beef and very nicely seasoned broth. The beef pieces were tender and it made me want to try their beef noodles next time I visit.

I love this place.... The right atmosphere, brought me back when I was teen!!! LOL I think you will never forget their sluch and shaved Ice... Bring back all my good "young" memory!!! LOL
Fatcheeks
The food were okay. One unique thing is their watermelon slush. It looked like a giant cone of slush that you have to be careful or it would tip over. The service was mediocre. They did not rush to help you when you ask to pay but they did clean up the watermelon slush mess fast enoughif it happens so much, they expected it to fall. Luckily this place accepts debit unlike your typical asian bubble place and their "cash only" signs. Their fried rice was enjoyable as it was cheap and came in huge portions. The pork fried meat in the fried rice were crispy and deliscious. The lavender milk tea barelt tasted like lavender but it was still good. I would only recommend this place for late night bubble and comfort food.
Antonio Chang
Love it!. Portion sizes of their food are enormous, and quality is very good, on the other hand their restaurant is loud and noisy, not a suitable place for you to go if you want a romantic dinner.
MelVan
Pretty decent with good portion. Sub-par bbt. We have been here a few times. One time one of us ordered fresh papaya and milk but the drink barely had any papaya taste to it. We told the waiter and the waiter told his boss. The response we got back was that they always use a certain proportion of milk and papaya and told us not to order it the next time. They did not offer to make another one or offer an apology but instead gave a rather rude response. One dish that was pretty good was the "the one deluxe pork steak". We have also tried their hot pot here before. It was expensive and not that great.
Lovexesther
GREAT. Soo pretty inside<br/>very chic<br/>great food also

The one... and only?. I think not. The portions were huge indeed but expensive. The staff were friendly but slow and the place is huge and spacious but it seems like they only want all the customers to occupy one side of restaurant.
Gotta Eat
Disgusting pearls. We went to this place for bbtea. The tea was mediocre, I had the royal milk tea. I asked for half sugar, which was still pretty sweet. The peals were one of the worst pearls ever, very slimy and not sweet at all. I was not impressed. My friend has the pudding shaved ice, that was okay, not too sweet with a good consistency.
CreamyBlue
The portion was huge and the service was fairly quick and friendly.

As for the pork chop, it was not bad, I picked the wrong sauce for it… I think I got garlic pepper

Ever wonder where everyone is getting those tall, colourful bubble tea slushes? They are found at The One in Burnaby, where they serve Taiwanese dishes and drinks. They also have a sister restaurant on Kingsway called Lao Shan Dong, which is known for their beef noodle. Sleepy and I went ahead to eat first before meeting Eddie. The restaurant was quite packed when we came on a Saturday night, and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table for 3. This place is very popular with the young Asian crowd, which is why my parents are not too fond of this place since it gets loud. The funny thing is when Sleepy and I went on our first date, we went for Taiwanese food at this restaurant in Downtown that is now closed. We didn’t tell each other what we were ordering at first, so when the waitress came over, we were surprised to learn that we were ordering the same dish with a different side! Sleepy ordered the  Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets with Rice ($10.75) .

If you’ve never been to the One Restaurant, then you want to try out their slush drinks that they are famous for. Their slush drinks taste watered down since they are large but if you want to see a super large slush bubble tea drink, then order it once for pictures. I really like their chicken nugget fried rice. If you take rice, green onioins, thai basil, and taiwanese chicken nuggets, this is the dish that you will create.  I think they also thinly sliced of asparagus  stems  but I’m not entirely sure.  The rice itself is okay, but I really enjoy the flavors and textures of this dish. Think of the flavors of taiwanese chicken nuggets plus rice. In terms of texture, you get the crunchiness of the chicken and the softness of the rice that mix and mingle so well in your mouth. I believe this is also a signature dish at the restaurant. I’ve always wondered what their green onions pancakes tasted like so we decided to order it. This was a bad decision because they were incredibly thin, had very little green onion, and had no layer within the pancake. I would not order this dish. # restaurant taiwanese burnaby vancouver photography pancake green onion chicken nugget thai delicious bubble tea milk tea pearl boba Posted 1 hour ago Recent Posts: Modified Theme from CMPNDM Theme  by  Danny
Nosh And Nibble
You have Taiwanese restaurants all along Kingsway in Burnaby, but The One is a unique one, all puns intended. Do their beef noodles take the crown or do they break into brittle pieces? Read on to find out. Food: Hungry after a karaoke session down the street, I was hungry for a bowl of noodles, so I ordered the Braised Beef Flank with Noodle In Soup. Don’t take their online menu too seriously as they don’t update it too often with their current pricing. While the broth tasted like a beef broth mixed with MSG, I was disappointed with the beef flank. The blocks of flank were dry and incredibly chewy making them hard to go down without a spoonful (and more) of the soup broth. The noodles were alright considering there was a ton of MSG in the broth. For a bowl of noodles featuring beef however, I was quite disappointed. Features: Seating around 80, The One features large booths and loungy seating. They also play karaoke videos of popular music (presumably to promote their next door karaoke
