Not a sushi fan, but the sushi pizza, and spicy salmon combo is amazing here. As of April 2016 I'd recommend this place. I'll have to update this review if it changes.
Great place. Great food and prices, and very friendly staff. Highly recommended
Best sushi joint in the heights! Fresh fish, great chefs, extremely fair prices and the best staff ever!!

Great value, great staff, good service, excellent food
Great Sushi
Nice workers there
Went on a Saturday night and it was extremely busy. Service was quick and attentive, and was impressed with how the staff handled such a busy night. They provided complimentary miso soup. Ordered maki and nigiri, and everything was done well. Would visit again and recommend to others.
Of almost all the sushi places in North Burnaby on Hastings, this one is the best so far. Variety for maki is great! This is the only place I have had sushi, and I didn't end up with an upset stomach. Service is quick and friendly. Dinner hours are crazy busy. Get takeout if you don't want to wait. I've recommended this place to friends.
UOmo looks like a dive from the frontage, looks crowded and cluttered on the inside and the presentation of their sushi and maki could use some work. But what gets it a 4.0 rating is that the ingredients were fresh, well put together and delicious.
They also have items I haven't seen in a while, like ume rolls and nattō. The service was great, very friendly staff and it was not at all expensive.
So nice, good service and food. Overall environment is soso but taste is so good much better than other fancy restaurant. Reasonable price
I think I should have tried the special rolls. The dynamite combo I tried was okay and it's filling but I am looking for more variety. This play is easy to find parking. Food is good but as mentioned would try the special rolls next time (yes, there is a next time). Service is fast and good. My tea is always filled. When you sit down , you get a tea and miso (even before ordering). Yes, I'll recommend
This place is UNREAL.
We get take out as much as we eat in.
The service is always amazing and the take out is always amazing and fresh and ready for our pick up time.
The sushi pizza is the best in all of Vancouver hands down. Their crazy bacon roll is unreal and my favourite thing ever is there Cheetos roll.
This place is a must Try. I won't eat anywhere else.
Decent service and food is not bad in that price range. The deluxe assorted sashimi comes in 18 pc for $18.50. Not the freshest fish but rather mild and huge portion. Next we had the chopped scallop roll and Hastings roll. The Hastings roll is my favourite item of the night. It consists of avocado, cucumbers, prawn tempura, and seared salmon on top with spicy mayo. The rice has the good chewy texture with the right amount of vinegar. The chopped scallop roll is standard but I found it with too much sesame on the top. There's nothing special about it. Another decent item was the assorted aburi don. It was a big bowl of rice with different fish items on top. I liked it mixed together with the spicy mayo although that's not the authentic way to eat it :P. One item that was not in the pic was the lady mango roll. I assumed the mango would be sliced nicely and lay on top of the roll but apparently that wasn't the case. It was chunks of mango (some not so fresh) and with mango sauce on top (yuck). I don't recommend this dish. This is a Korean operated place so don't expect authentic Japenses dishes. Items are hit and miss. If you go often enough, you will know what to order.
It seems every year every corner a new sushi restaurant pops up. It feels as if the whole city is being over taken by sushi restaurants. Sushi UOmo is a sushi restaurant I want around. The price I paid for the quality of food was pretty good and pretty tasty. The sablefish at sushi Uomo in contrast with Aki that I recently ate at tasted pretty similar and it was a slightly bigger piece. When the bill came I was surprised at the price of my whole bill, with the sable fish still fresh in my mind It was few dollars shy of just the one piece at Aki. After tax and tip) I will defiantly be returning for another visit. The dynamite roll wasn't to my liking though. A little odd. The Hastings Roll was fantastic.
It was my 2nd time at this restaurant for lunch. I ordered something different from last time. I really enjoyed the Sushi Pizza. It was different. Big portions. Lots of food so we packed the rest home. Love the food and good service.
Updated Review Sep 18th:
Delicious food but the service left a bitter taste in my mouth. Have you ever been asked to move after you are literally almost done eating my answer was no until today. Absolutely rude behavior! My impression of this restaurant went down in less than a month. You want service don't come here. You want to try the food? Get it to go. Seems like common sense and manners aren't practiced here. Half hearted apology not accepted.
[05/28/2015] It was Happy’s birthday last Thursday but she was fully booked last week (pftttt too popular ;D) so we had a late celebration today! She wanted sushi and after doing some research and reading some reviews, I decided to take her to Sushi UOmo. It was a convenient 15 minute bus ride from school and we had an early dismissal today, so it worked out perfectly!
Sushi was fresh and totally worth the price! We got 18 pieces of sashimi for $18.50 and the slices were super thick! Service was a bit slow but would definitely recommend just for the value of food!
Burnaby Heights, if nothing else, has become an increasingly diverse neighborhood over the years. It has traditionally been Italian and a lot of that influence is still clearly visible today. But take a stroll down Hastings Street and you’ll find quite the multicultural assortment of culinary delights.
Fantastic!. By far, the best customer service Ive ever received. The waiter constantly made sure we had enough tea, and the chefs smiled a lot. We had complimentary miso soup, which I appreciated, and a surprise complimentary dessert!
The food was delicate and tasty; a good price for quality food! Definitely recommend!
Went here recently for lunch. Loved it - I had my 18 month old with me and they were so good with her - had highchairs and they brought her a plastic plate and plastic cup of water with a straw without me even asking. The sushi was really nice, and service great too. Will definitely be back.
Great food, efficient servers and polite cooks
Business hour. Sushi UOmo is
OPEN on SUNDAYS
CLOSE on TUESDAYS
The best sushi place in Burnaby!. Sushi Uomo is my best sushi place in the Burnaby. The restaurant is very clean and looks nice. The fish is always fresh and the roll is always awesome! Especially, I like Sashimi Salad! That one is my favourite :) Furthermore , the service is always great!
Great start and attention to detail. They are doing a tax free promo right now, only until May 31st!
We ordered the chirashi don, burnaby heights roll, dynamite combo and a sake salmon sashimi order. The chirashi don really showed great attention to detail in that each piece of sashimi was neatly placed in the bowl, and the choice of fish showed how this restaurant values quality over quantity. There was hamachi, salmon, tuna, ika, amaebi, ebi, tamago and aji. One criticism was that there wasn't quite as much rice as other places that serve chirashi dons, and that the rice was ice cold, which was a bit strange. Every other restaurant I've ordered chirashi don at the rice has been warm.
The dynamite combo was reported to be quite good and worth the value. Finally, the burnaby heights roll was interesting with the melted cheese on top and spicy sauce; however for $7.50 the size was a little disappointing as we were expecting something a little more filling, and received a regular "maki" sized roll as opposed to a "fusion" type roll.
Our female server was very attentive and enthusiastic about all the menu options and her service was great. I suppose as long as you don't try to compare the dishes you're eating with other sushi restaurants you've been to, Sushi Uomo would be a great place to eat. However it's really hard not to compare especially since there are so many other sushi restaurants in a 2 block radius on Hastings.
All in all, I would consider returning to try some of the other rolls and perhaps their daily specials!

The Appetizer Sashimi contained one piece of geoduck sashimi (yes, geoduck!), two pieces of hamachi, two pieces of salmon and two pieces of tuna. All of the sashimi had a taste of freshness but the thing that strikes your eye most is the size of the pieces. The salmon sashimi and the tuna sashimi were huge! If you are looking for value in sashimi, this is it!
The geoduck sashimi had the chewy quality of geoduck and was slightly slightly sweet and slimy. The hamachi sashimi was quite smooth, but had a little too much of a fishy taste. The salmon was served at just the right temperature, but was weak in flavour and on the tough side. The tuna was softer and a little cooler than the salmon. I found the tuna a bit too salty.
In the beginning, their signage only referred them as “Sushi Uo”, but after a week, the sign had changed to Sushi Uomo. I guess “Sushi Uo” was too awkward to pronounce. Sushi Uomo has plenty of seating and with their large windows in the front, the place lights up really well on a nice sunny day.
I swear this post should receive an award for most delayed post ever. I went to Sushi Uomo with my besties BEFORE I went on vacation way back in July and I’m finally getting around to posting this now. In my defense, I was away for a month and wanted to just focus on family instead of blogging and I started going to school right when I got back so food blogging has been on a bit of a back burner since then. Anyways, enough of my rambling and onto the food!

As for the food, there are misses unlike the last visit and I may not be in a rush to revisit. However, Sushi UOmo still appears to be one of the better Japanese cuisine restaurants on Hastings Street.
There's many good sushi restaurants in Burnaby and this is another one. Nothing I had was amazing but was good value and good flavour.
I was nervous getting one of the box dinners as there's a few things I know I don't like and it listed chef's choice. My friend got it and I would try it if I go here again. It had multiple cuts of salmon and tuna nigiri, as well as some other fish.
I tried the Boston roll Maki, stuffed inari, and saba nigiri. I'd never heard of a Boston before and liked it; lots of crunch. The Inari pocket with ceab meat was huge; I took 4 big bites to eat it. The saba was lightly picked. I enjoy a strong pickled flavour; this was nice too.
Excellent, fresh sushi. Always a very good service. Great spot for casual lunch.
Friendly, quality service in a super clean little shop. All the fish was fantastic, especially the yellowtail and salmon belly. Really good prices, nigiri was huge.
Simple place but very good sushi fresh and delicious never disappointed, one of my favorite place in North Burnaby.
Fresh ingredients and very nicely plated. Must try the inari pocket! The portion was generous and delicious ❤️ The staff and chef were extremely friendly. We were hungry and ordered too much to eat but was happy to have the leftovers for a second meal 🤭 there were plenty of pics of the menu items around the restaurant so it's easy to see what you would want.
Great food at a reasonable price. This place seemed really popular with take out orders, but their dine in service was great! Great option if you're feeling like having a sushi night!
