Review Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria - Burnaby

V
My partner and I came for a little NYE dinner date. The spicy pizza was my favourite and I’m so glad we took the servers recommendations for the dessert… we loved the chocolatey donuts. Our server was super accommodating to us when we were cold on the patio, she found a spot for us inside. Will be coming back for sure :)

First time trying this restaurant and had a great experience. The atmosphere was lively and more casual which I preferred. The food came out quickly and the quality surpassed my expectations. I will definitely come back 🤘

Amazing! First off the crust is crispy to perfection. Tried 3 kinds of pizza and all were different and amazing in their own ways. Carbonara with a soft boiled egg...how does this work so well? Funghi with the chili jam and goat cheese is a great combination of sweet and savory. Love this pizza and highly recommend

My family’s go-to restaurant for Italian food in Burnaby (mostly for the 🍕). When I was in Vancouver recently, I found out they started making their own pastas in house which really intrigued me to want to go back. I always loved their pizzas, but for pasta I was so so about it. This time I went, I was very pleased with how good of a job they did on their pastas! The gnocchi was seriously one of the best ones I’ve had. The only thing personally I felt I would change is adding more dill into the seafood pasta, and having a lighter sauce. Also wanted to mention that they do a great job with the calamari fritti. The squid is fresh and tender, never over battered- just perfect👌🏻 ** Edit: The last two times I went here to eat I was rather disappointed. The pizza dough was super hard and tough, definitely not “Neapolitan” style. Also the calamari had little to no seasoning in it. Pasta was also underwhelming. This was my go-to spot in the area but I don’t think I’ll be coming back… at least not for a while.

One of the best wood oven pizzas in town. Great selection of drinks

Best tasting pizzas and pasta! Great service too! Will be coming back here again and again for sure!

Mark was our order taker server missed our calamari appetizer order, when we reorder it it’s very salty to eat. Good that it was removed from our bill. Mark acted like he hates his job and shows it. The other waitress service was outstanding.

The food was amazing. The staff was impeccable. Every staff member from the greeter to the server to the manager was very professional and went beyond their duties. The restaurant was ran like a fine tuned machine. We will be back !!!

What great service! We were really happy with both our food and our service. We are frequent visitors to this restaurant as they serve top quality food and the servers and staff are totally on point.

Our server was absolutely wonderful. Our sangria's were great and the food was excellent. Will definitely be going back.

Great pizza and awesome seafood pasta... would definitely recommend to everyone!

Me and my table of six ate an array of pizzas and pastas, each more delicious than the last. The charcuterie, the Diavola pizza, and the Tagliatelle Carbonara were absolutely ridiculous. While the food and drink were excellent, I particularly appreciated the service, which was the best I've ever had. Hats off to the staff, who really outdid themselves. Sincerely appreciate you all making it such a great experience.

Really good lunch. Pizza Salmone with 63 degree egg oh yeah. Cesar salad with giant, soft buttery crouton and prosciutto. Good wine list. Everything we ordered was aces.

Big shout out to the people at Cotto, especially Gaven the manager, for arranging my wife's birthday party for 18 people. With four tables and the fireplace lounge on the patio, ...the ambiance was amazing, the food delicious, and the staff friendly and attentive! Amazingly, several guests had not been to Cotto before, but will definitely be going back. Thanks again Cotto... My wife has fond memories of her special night!

Went there tonight with a large party for my brothers birthday and it was fantastic!Gaven and his team knocked it out of the park! Our server Sarah was hands down Impressive! I have been in hospitality for over 28 years and I am hard to impress! The food was to die for! Can't wait to go back! Thanks for a great night!

Very good authentic pizza with quality and abundant ingredients. The place is nicely decorated. I wish if they had more sea food pizza choices.

I absolutely love going to Cotto. The service is always amazing and the food is delicious. The funghi pizza is my favourite - I always end up ordering it whenever I go. If you go, make sure to download their app so you can earn points for free food!

Cotto excels in every area of restaurants operations: delicious food, friendly staff, strong branding, good at social media, convenient location, free parking, reasonable prices, open concept kitchen, and banquet room upstairs! I highly recommend Cotto for a family meal, a night out with friends, or a business or social function! We held our YVR Foodies event here and were super impressed with the entire Cotto team! :)

I've been coming here since this place opened, and wow, just wow, todays pizza has got to be the WORST pizza I've ever had. I ordered the margherita. They fire oven baked the hell out it, making it hard, dry, and sauceless. Also, they forgot 1 of the 3 ingredients. Where's the cheese??? Won't ever be coming back.

I called the restaurant to make a booking for a birthday party in a few weeks.  I requested for the patio section but was told that their patio is now closed for renovations and they have no timeline as to when it will be done.  Then, the lady told me that they are having some "clerical issues" with their liquor license and can't serve any alcohol at the moment.  I asked if that will be resolved by the time of my party, then she got quiet snappy and rude.  "We're just waiting for the renewal!  You'll just have to call back!"  It would have been nice if she was to ask for my contact info and offer to call me back once she has more details, but I guess it won't matter now since I am quite turned off by her attitude.
Susan
Been here before for dinner. The food is mediocre for what you pay, but we came by for drinks. They aren't able to serve alcohol right now (I believe license was revoked). Very disappointed!  Also, their patio is closed (for renovation they said) - poor timing to do this in the summer!

Very clean atmosphere, and I came at around 6pm and it still wasn't too full for a place that's not too big. The food is great; everything tastes really fresh, and the pizza (at least for me) was a pretty big serving. I had to take half of it home. Can't wait to try the pasta.

I ate outside, so the pictures don’t have great lighting. I started off with the special — meatballs!. Meatballs in some kind of tomato sauce (~$10). The meatballs were quite dry — wasn’t a big fan of them. They were also smaller than I expected. The star of the dish, unexpectedly, was the toast/bread. Other than the one that obviously got burnt, they were nice and crunchy on the outside, and soft and chewy inside, and well seasoned.

The first visit of Cotto was so new to us. We watched other people's order and everything looks good..<br/>we are so impressive. Second time we try another pizza and and other pasta.. It was even better. The third time tonight we have the best out of the three pizza we tried ( too long to remember the nAme) is the last one on the menu. And this time we have rose sauce with seafood , tasty . I enjoy their Sangria every time👍<br/>Service are fast and lots of server around.<br/>All the ladies server are excellent and friendly. <br/>Will pass on good words to family and friends

Pictured: meatballs and pasta at Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria. If only this restaurant wasn’t so far from where I lived. I love this place when I find myself in North Burnaby. Everything has been consistently good, from the pastas, to the appies, to the desserts. I tend to go more with the pastas here rather than the pizzas as well as the most freaking amazing beet salad with purple and GOLDEN beets! Totally photoworthy. They have different food and drink specials depending on the day. They also have a really great patio even though it does face a busy Hastings Street.
Stefanie
Great pizza, just like gramma used to make in the pizzeria back home! The service is always great, and the specials make it worth coming back regularly. One of my favorite spots in North Burnaby.

Located in North Burnaby just off of Hastings and Fell. This is an old Anduccis converted.<br/>The stone oven is amazing and pies are good for the price.

Long, overdue review here.<br/>I first discovered this place about ten months ago after a bunch of my Italian coworkers all recommended this place for our staff dinner. We ordered probably one of every appetizer (multiples of a few!), and everyone was extremely pleased with those - my personal favourites are the calamari, meatballs, and bread!<br/>Their menu is a bit tough to understand, as its all listed in Italian, but my coworkers were able to help us each pick a dish, which ended up being deliciously fantastic, and there was something for someone no matter what the dietary need. It was a great, great night that I remember fondly. Great drinks, great food, great service.<br/><br/>Since then, I've constantly visited this restaurant and it's hands down one of my favourite Italian restaurants EVER.<br/>If you're not lucky enough to have someone Italian with you to translate the menu, the waitresses are very nice & fun, and willing to help you out with the menu, as one waitress did with my friend one time. <br/>They're very well known for their pizza... but I've only tried their pizza a couple times. I am so, SO obsessed with their carbonara pasta, and I refuse to try something else. I'm pleased that the dish is always hot and has a consistent taste. I've brought home their pizza for my family, and it's fantastic. Not too dough-ey, and such an amazing variety of ingredients and flavours. I never wait long for my meal, and I've never had any problems. I've brought many friends with me, and they've all had great experiences too - always nagging me when can we go again!<br/><br/>There's lots of parking (lot across the street, street, or couple spots by the entrance), and I love the interior, outdoor seating, and overall environment - fun & casual. <br/>They're great at accommodating large parties, and I have actually just arrived home from there for another staff party (we didn't have to debate where we were gonna eat... knew it was gonna be Cotto!) of 18 people. It was easy to reserve for us, easy to order, didn't wait too long for our food, all of us enjoyed our food (some especially enjoyed their drinks), and had such a fun, memorable night. (Thank you to all the staff who had to deal with my crazy coworkers!)<br/><br/>I live near South Surrey and I definitely don't mind the drive to get there. Pizza is discounted on Monday, Pasta is discounted on Tuesdays... I'm not sure of any other promotions they have on other days. I'm so happy I discovered this place, and can't wait to go back!

Best calamari I've had! The herb mayo dip was amazing. The meatballs were mediocre but the seafood pasta taglitelle was soooooo yum. Perfect amount of creaminess 👌👌👌 def coming back! $4 highballs on Tue night's with 25% off all their pasta!

To this end, we went in search of some great pizza at Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria in North Burnaby. They aim to provide the traditional authenticity we desire, but with some modern creativity for good measure. In addition to the chili pepper flake shaker, for instance, we were provided with bottles of garlic-infused and chili pepper-infused olive oil.
Alpaca Lunch
For an appetizer, we ordered the beet salad. The dish came with slices of red and yellow beets plated nicely with arugula, honey citrus vinaigrette, citrus and goat cheese crumbled on top. The acidity in the vinaigrette complimented the delectable sweetness of the beets and masked the bitterness of arugula. The goat cheese was so smooth, it basically melted in our mouth. <br/>The salmon pizza was blanketed with fresh mozzarella, smoked salmon, crispy capers, 63 degree egg and a drizzle of hollandaise sauce. The pizza was not delivered to our table hot, only kind of warm. while the crust was crispy at first, it quickly became chewy as it cooled off. The 63 degree egg was perfectly runny and delicious, but I felt like the salmone pizza was a bit too dry as there was no sauce under the layer of smoked salmon, which was a little too salty. <br/>I've been craving parpadelle pasta for the longest time so we substituted the linguine out of the linguine boscaiola with parpadelle for this plate. This dish also did not arrive to our table hot, which is a shame because it probably would've tasted better. The pasta was cooked to al dente but the noodles were only lightly coated with a thin layer of alfredo sauce, which made the dish a bit dry, along with the ground beef and pork. I also could not taste the mushroom and vegetable sofrito, but I loved the rich, earthy taste and aroma of the truffle oil. Truthfully, truffle oil was the compelling factor that drove us to order this dish. <br/>Our food took quite a bit of time to get to our tables, considering how relatively empty the restaurant was. We were puzzled as to why our plates didn't arrive hot as well. Our waitress also forgot to bring the cheese grater over so we had to remind her. Perhaps everybody was busy cleaning and closing up the restaurant. Overall, I think we'd return for their specials on Mondays and Tuesdays, but we'll probably come a little earlier next time.

Ate here during one of the rainy days of vancouver, the place is well hidden, driving here would be the best option as taking a bus would take quite a walk down here.<br/><br/>A friend of mine recommend the place, if not i would not even have noticed/known this place in the first place.<br/><br/>we came in a group of 4, and pretty much I'm the only one who ate a lot, so need to tone down my eating a little bit. <br/>we ordered 3 pizzas and 2 spaghetti to share with. <br/><br/>This is the first time that I had a spaghetti with an egg that is half cooked in the middle of the pizza. and it's actually the flavor changes, (duh) once the egg is broken. and spread the flavor of the yolk as a dippings sauce for the pizza. (still not sure whether that's the way to eat it) the first one is 3 types of cheese if I'm not mistaken and it was great, and the second pizza we order is with smoked salmon, the combination with smoked salmon is actually quite surprisingly good. the third pizza is mushroom pizza, with wild mushroom and a few other mushroom that i wasn't able to identify. The pizzas i will say in general it was good/above average. the taste generally goes towards on the saltier side definitely.<br/><br/>The moving on to the pasta there's one that we order a seafood pasta, not sure what' it's called now, but the portion is a bit small for sharing. good for one person who don't eat much for sure. the taste of the tomato sauce and seafood blends just okay. maybe a little bit of tomato taste + a little bit more acidic by using lemon i think will do the trick. <br/><br/>over all i'll say it's worth trying the pizza over here, as it's a little bit more indifferent. however that comes to the price as well. as per person spent around $18 if i'm not mistaken. if everyone ate barbaric like me I'm sort of sure that it'll cost more than $25 per person :( <br/><br/>base on the price, i would say it's worth to try it once, but for me i don't think it's worth going back despite the good food. :)

Despite the travel, the food still held up. It will definitely be on my watch, if only I can find someone to go with, or people that live close enough and wouldn’t mind coming along with me. Pricing might be a bit high if it weren’t for the deal, but I think the quality and service makes up for it, even with the drive. This will be another addition to my ongoing list of great Neapolitan pizzerias.

With a fair number of seats at the bar, it’s perfect for catching some of the Olympics. Although there are quite a few Italian restaurants in the area, the vibe at Cotto is just a bit cooler and less stuffy. And the Napoletana pizzas are amazing, they are also part of the Ocean Wise program and dedicating to serving sustainable seafood. Also worth noting is the friendliness of the servers, with several people coming by to ask us how our meals were going throughout. This restaurant is a welcome addition to Burnaby.

Awesome pizza.. Loses a bit of cred because service wasn't great ... was left standing there for awhile with staff bustling by and finally had to flag someone down ourselves... but grabbed a couple pizzas to go and they were awesome. The crust was exactly how I like it, and the Funghi Pizza is unreal. I loved it and will definitely be back -- it's also a lot cheaper than some of the not-so-great pizza around, which is a huge bonus!
Vancouver Barista
This casual but feels-dressed-up pizzeria has only been around a few years. Yet it has built a strong neighbourhood following, so it can get packed on an average weekday. The crowd is mellow and feels very adult – like people who are close to paying off their mortgage.  Look around and people are sipping a wine with their wood fire grilled pizzas. There are big TVs and you can get comfy at the long white marble bar to get a close up of a Canucks game.

One experience can ruin everything. Came here a while back and the food was amazing! I was excited to re visit this place for a friends birthday. When we entered there were only 3 other occupied tables. The service was mediocre; our server checked up on us a few times, but could have done a better job at clearing our table. Now onto the food, the gnocchi was over cooked. It was super soggy and everything about it wasn't as good as the first time when I had it. The sauce needed more work. It was too runny and bland, whereas the first time I had it..it was more on the thicker ..just perfect. We ordered the carbonara and prosciutto pizza which were good. Perfect chewy dough..just the way I like it! Don't know if I'll be back anytime soon though

We decided to have a family pizza night and I suggested that we order from Cotto because they offer an amazing deal on Mondays where they offer 2 for $20 on all their pizzas for take out...

Its a winner!. Great food, well priced with lovely staff and ambiance to boot.<br/>Its a winner.

Disappointing with a capital D. Had a lackluster dinner at this restaurant tonight. Very expensive wine-who pays $17.00 for 8 oz of wine from a very sad wine list. I would have brought my own wine if I had known this and paid the $25.00 corkage fee. The special was $2.00 off my pasta which was tasteless. It could have been a little better with some pepper and Parmesan but the server did not offer this and when I asked for it the assistant server came just as I had finished my meal. I will not be having another meal at this restaurant any time soon.

Beet Salad. Delicious!!!

Thumbs down. We'd made a patio reservation and updated it three times, always confirming it was a patio reservation. We arrived and the waitress said, Sorry, it wasn't noted that it was a patio reservation. We didn't want our party broken up so we were stuffed in a hot, stuffy corner with no air, no open windows, and two giant TV screens on each end of the table.<br/>The rather expensive food was bland and the toppings undistinguishable. The salad had almost no flavour. <br/>Will never return.

Bought a groupon for cotto; Paid 40 for 60 worth of your choice of food or drinks.<br/>Ordered a starter size of the gnocchi. It was my first time ever having it and it was delicious! But I guess I don't have anywhere else to compare to. <br/>After, came out the truffle mushroom pasta.. The pasta was cooked perfectly! Not too soggy or raw. Just the way pasta should be cooked. Definitely would reccomend this dish. <br/>My boyfriend and I had to slow it down because there was still a pizza to come.. Although I really wanted to finish everything while it was still fresh and hot. Cotto probably has one of the best neopolitan pizzas that I've tried. The dough and crust is perfect.. I wouldn't recommend getting something with a lot of topping though as it makes the dough soggy. Def better than Famoso and via tevere!<br/>The only downside was that the gnocchi wasn't cooked evenly, either the pepperoni/pro guiros was too salty, and how long it took for our food to come out. <br/>If you are ever around north burnaby or see it on groupon, it's a must try!

I had high hopes for this place when I walked in, the decor and atmosphere seemed great. <br/><br/>Our server seemed to be having an off day, pouring water into white wine glasses, spilling coffees. I get we all have bad days but she didn't seem particularly apologetic.<br/><br/>I judge a pizza place by their pizza margherita, so I was really disappointed when it came out: soggy, sparse on cheese and flat in terms of flavour. Good pizza margherita should taste like pizza on top of naan bread. I've had better McCain frozen pizza.<br/><br/>I might give this place one more try but I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

Pizza lover. Well let me tell you after being greated by a manager with a grade 8 education who advised us 2e would be seated but noone would serve us for 15 minutes we sat and waited 20 min later we placed our order an hour and a half YES 1.5 HOURS later we received our pizza we were on our way to jyst cancel all together wgen it finally arrived I asked for bill and boxes so we could finally leave and the manager says I told you there was a 15 min <br/>delay ..big difference between 15 min<br/>in delay and 1.5 hours for pizza.<br/>Quality average to above service terrible manager is ....Not good being polite here gkad she does <br/>NOT <br/>work for me .<br/>Bottom line LORS of better places in Van and Burnaby .<br/>By the way this is my first review/ blog EVER that us how I feel about it . Five Star. Tonight was my fourth time at Cotto. Each time the customer service and meal choices have been stellar. I've now brought both my parents for their birthday dinners and it was everything I could have asked for. Our server this evening was great and we really felt well taken care of. The owner even went out of his way to help me redeem a coupon and introduce himself. Cotto may well become a birthday (and every other excuse I can find) tradition! Thanks, everyone. You deserve every bit of your success.

First time, not the last. We have passed by this place (and its predecessor) many many times without stopping...until now. Nice decor, excellent meatballs, large appetizers. The margerita pizza was good. The burrata was good, the red wine glaze was lovely, but the salad part of it was not a good match. The caesar salad was nice to look at but a lot of work to eat it - so it is more of a novelty than a satisfying salad, which is what my sweetie really wanted. We liked the look of the pasta dishes and other pizzas, as well as the drink menu, so we'll be back!

Went here for a Christmas function. Menu was set so haven't ordered off the menu but the food was delicious! And the best part? They have Prosecco on tap! Definitely going back :-)

Very disappointed with this place. Terrible customer service. I called to order pizzas to takeout, and once we got there to pick up the pizzas they were running behind so they made us wait 20 more minutes. When they gave us the pizzas, we confirmed the type again, and as we were about to take away our pizzas, they realized that they had gotten our orders wrong, so made us wait another 20-30 more minutes to make new pizzas. Finally, after all that waiting we just wanted to get home and enjoy our pizzas. When we got home, I opened one of the boxes, and to my disgust, there was fish on my pizza - I had ordered there a few times before and never had I seen a pizza with fish on it, nor did I request it. I was not going to be able to eat this. Meanwhile, the other pizza was sitting out getting cold. I immediately called the restaurant and politely explained what had happened, and the girl who I spoke to gave me attitude and made it sound like it was all my fault. I then asked to speak to the manager, who was quite rude and proceeded to ARGUE with me....unbelievable! What happened to 'customer is always right?' After arguing with him for a few minutes, I convinced them to make us new pizzas, which only sounded fair after all the trouble they had put us through, and the time we lost, for their mistake. They could not even apologize. I wouldn't go back to this place after this awful experience.

Average and expensive. My wife and I shared a Ceasar salad, two pizzas, two glasses of house wine and two diet cokes....71.00 (15% tip =81.00 total) . Here is the scoop .......the salad was very good however the pizza (afterall the hype) was average at best (have had much better take out). I appreciate the special prep involved and all the fresh ingredients however the bottom line was the food was just O.K. and certainly not worth the bang for the buck. The manager and waitress were very friendly and the service was good but if I'm going to spend 81.00 for pizza (2.00 was charged for extra garlic ) then I would much rather go to an upper scale resturant (The Boat House) with more selection and a view.<br/> Sorry not trying to mean but just trying to be realistic and get the best value for my hard earned money.

Had a reservation booked. When we arrived, we had to wait for hostess to come back from the back of the restaurant to seat us. Service was bit lacking. Had to flag the server to refill water. The restaurant isn't that big and the place had only a few occupied tables. The server either isn't experienced or was not keen on checking if the customers needed anything. We all ordered pizza and they were well made. Will come back for the food.

Won't recommend - won't be back. We were sat by the exit to the "patio" so got cold blasts of air when the door was frequently opened. After we waited about 20 minutes in our very uncomfortable chairs for someone to come to our table in the not so busy restaurant and no one did, we decided to leave. We were thanked on our way out for coming. Interesting. Are you all so daft so as not to remember that we just arrived 20 minutes ago? We went somewhere else and had a wonderful meal with attentive service - what someone would expect when spending $$$.
Cheeseburger
Great local option. My friend and I came for lunch and we ordered the tagliatelle and the pappardelle in the half-portions. The dishes were quite filling even for a half order and the flavours were great! The pappardelle was great as the sauce wasn't overpowering the pasta. My friend enjoyed her tagliatelle which came with an abundance of seafood and toppings.

Worst pizza ever!. Yes folks, even worse than frozen pizza! Burnt crust, mountain of smelly arugula dumped in the middle. Poor excuse for pizza. Plus not cheap either. So long suckers!

This place has good food, atmosphere and service. If you like wood oven pizza then this is the place to go in Burnaby. Don't mistake this place with the other wood oven pizza place a block away. The food at Cotto is half the price and twice as good!

Great Pizzeria!. I have been to COTTO a few times and I have enjoyed it every time. The pizza is very good, hot appys are refined well constructed and salads and fresh and very tasty. I like the vibe too; it looks like they put allot of attention into the design and decor and the result is very slick. Yes, there is room for improvement but I am so happy that I don't have to drive to Nicli for a good carpacio, negroni or pizza anymore!

Not worth the money. I was here on the weekend for a family function, and we had rented the upstairs floor, and the lay out was awful. the eating area was nice and big with space, but the bar side was in a different room that was filled with office supplies and a pool table that was too big for the space making it awkward for people to walk around. The bar service was terrible. the Australian bar tenter was to busy talking to make people drinks, sloppy ones at that. Food was alright when it finally got there. Its not what I would call a Italian restaurant food. something you would get at browns or the cactus club. Over all my experience was crap and I will gladly take and recommend my business elsewhere
Reidangusl
Mediocre. The olives in the Misto di Olive were absolutely soaked in balsamic vinegar, ruining the olive flavour and making them incredibly bitter. The lemon, mint, and chili promised on the menu seemed to be non-present as well. <br/><br/>We enjoyed our pizza, but it wasn't incredible—I prefer the pizza at Campagnolo Roma, which has better quality food and is comparatively priced. It is also much friendlier for those who are looking for a less meat-centric menu. <br/><br/>I will say that the service was very pleasant, but I would not consider going back.

With the effort it took to get VPN certified, to keep and maintain the special oven we expected great things. Meh - soft and limp crust pizza was what we got. Pasta with the 63 egg was troubled too, unevenly cooked and visibly stuck together noodles. Plus - quiet Tuesday, we get seated not on the nice booths but at a table in the middle of the restaurant next to the sliding balcony door they opened and closed throughout the night. Another couple comes in, gets seated right next to us, why with so many empty tables?

Great dinner!. Had a fabulous gorge here. We started with the calamari and the buratta cheese. The squid was crispy, tender, salty, with lots of fabulous tentacles. Served with a great garlicky herb dip. The cheese was sublime, soft, creamy, milky, with a sweet caponata. We delved into a couple of pies, including the decadent carbonara, complete with smokey porky goodness and a soft egg. Finally we finished with strong, smokey Americanos and a flourless chocolate torte with caramelized bananas. Heaven. All the food was super fresh and delicious, the service was great and the beer was ice cold. Was a tad pricy but a great night out. Will come again for sure to try some more items.

Get Take Out. I have been to this restaurant 4 times and every time except for the 1st time, the service is horrible. Food is awesome, nothing wrong with the food except the prices could be a bit lower. We went last night and we shared an appie and we each had our own main. After our appie, we waited an additional 25 mins for our mains because the expeditor gave our food to the table behind us even though they arrived after us. The server realized and apologized. However, I was already irritated enough and just wanted to leave. The manager came by and apologized to the table behind us first because they received the wrong order, and then to us. We got 25% off our mains after we asked for something off. I keep having higher expectations for this place but keep getting disappointed. Go to the bar if you want better service, that was the first time we went and had awesome service at the bar. The expos don't seem to know their table numbers and we got water we didn't order so the other table didn't receive theirs. I love the food, not the service.

A best forgotten experience. We drove along Hastings Street looking to enjoy an anniversary dinner at a local restaurant. I had seen this place while it was being renovated and thought to try it. We should’ve kept driving. There was a constant heavy odour of a deep fryer and frying food. We were seated in the center of the indoor area not far from the bar which was a busy spot and not particularly relaxing. The calamari was cooked nicely but we shook off the excessive coating leaving a large pile on the plate. The gnocchi were fried and were cooked with some fatty bits of pancetta. I grew up Italian and have enjoyed gnocchi many times, usually boiled and with a variety of sauces. These were disappointing and seemed ridiculously priced at $21. The pizza funghi seemed cold even when it arrived and the crust was overly floppy. We both felt bloated after our meal and needed to go for a long walk. We don’t often go out for dinner and this sort of experience won’t do anything to change that.

Decent. Nothing over the top. Pizza's are good and fresh, some of the pastas were over sauced and sauces on the oily side. Not easy on the wallet.

Don't get the Canneloni. I had two bites and had to give up. Usually I'd take left overs to go, but the 3 left over canneloni's went to the garbage gods. Couldn't real taste any flavors except spinach.<br/><br/>Other than that everything else was great. I'd highly recommend the linguine Boscaiola and anyone of the pizzas.

Yum. This place is just awesome . By far one of the better Pizzeria's out there! cant wait to visit again!

Amazing food, but service is unpredictable. I have been to this restaurant twice -- it has been nice to try something new in the North Burnaby neighbourhood where I grew up.<br/><br/>My first experience was great! Some friends recommended the restaurant and brought me there. Food was delicious and service was very good. I love the carbonara pasta, and the stone oven pizza is also something special.<br/><br/>I then brought my parents with me for my second visit, so they could also try it out. The food was even more amazing this time and my parents were thoroughly impressed (especially with the roast hen). Unfortunately, the service was the worst I have ever experienced in a restaurant like this. The server was rude, unattentive, and pretty much absent. She didn't bring our drinks and we had to ask other servers around us on multiple occasions to bring the drinks we originally ordered. My glass of wine never came. In fact, our server didn't even serve us our food as it was brought out by expos. The one time we had a chance to actually ask her for a refill (at the end of the meal while she was clearing plates), we sat for 10+ mins before she remembered. Throughout the entire meal, she never asked if we wanted a refill on drinks or even water...in fact she never asked us if we wanted anything at all. She would disappear for long periods of time, or be hanging out with other coworkers near the till around the corner (where I could still see her) just chatting or doing her hair. Even when I was paying, I reached out to return the wireless terminal to her and held my arm there for 10 seconds while she was staring off into space. She never saw me so I tore off my own receipts and gave her the merchant copy.<br/><br/>I would go back for the food, but the quality of service is extremely unpredictable. Poor service like that definitely dampens the mood on what has the potential to be a wonderful night out with good food and good company.

Early dinner. Fast service (the place was EMPTY.)<br/>Friendly service.<br/>Limited selection on the menu, except for pizza.<br/>No cider or similar drinks.<br/>WAAAAAY over-priced for what we got - lg. spinach canneloni -$21.00 for 4 not very stuffed pieces <br/> - pizza carne - $16.00 - very little topping on it<br/><br/>The restaurant was MUCH better when it was Anducci's. Over-all, we were quite disappointed and we won't be going back...

Wonderful new place for the neighbourhood!. Calamari was nice and light, especially enjoyed the pesto. My Pizza Proscuitto was to die for. My friend ordered the Game Hen and when it was a bit too pink for his liking, the server quickly took it back to the kitchen and a new order was made. Wine selection was good and complemented the menu being offered. Service was top notch and atmosphere was intimate, due in part to the relatively quiet Sunday evening.<br/>I highly recommend this place! We will be back to try out the rest of the menu!

Food is great!. I went there for a friends birthday dinner. What a gem, who would have known such a fancy place with good food resides in bby?<br/><br/>Pasta and pizza is very good. it's a place to get together for a great dinner.

Potential but Uncaring Chef. On our quest for great pizza we drove out to bby, we have been trying all the new napolean style pizza places around the city. I must say this one is up to snuff, pizza wise. The crust was light and crisp and soft in the middle, the tomato sauce is exquisite, the toppings good, and of course spartan to let the pizza shine thru. Pizza gets a thumb up and I would say it is tied with Farina, the nudge going to Farina. However, where they failed, was the pasta. I ordered the pappardelle - ribbons of pasta. Firstly it is not fresh pasta, I assumed it was...it was dried, and definately not as good as Barrilla (they should switch). The tomato sauce was nice, the pasta was not very hot, however, my issue was my noodles which were all broken up, small little 1 cm bits, who would ever do such a thing? Not a talented chef - you do not break the noodles. I was pretty upset, I like my ribbons of thick pasta. when I told the waitress, she kinda shrugged but agreed they were all broken up. I asked if she told the chef, she said yes and he said nothing. I said oh I guess i got the bottom of a crushed box and she agreed. So the pasta was less than average for me, no care from the sous chef or the waitress. Secondly, my friend's pizza came after we ate dinner, the waitress told him someone took his pizza by mistake. He sat while we ate, I shared my broken noodles with him. She finally brought the pizza, no apologies, no free dessert and no discount. Unacceptable!!!! The dessert was amazing, BUDINO, it is the only reason I may go back, but not unless the service changes. I am still fuming about my pasta, what a waste of carb calories. Left with bad sad taste in my mouth. Oh and meatballs appies, were okay.

Great Napoli style pizza. Amazing crust and authentic toppings. We started with the calamari which was lightly battered and perfectly seasoned. The complimentary homemade bread and dip was excellent as well. Highly recommend this place

Amazing Calmari!. We went for lunch at this new Italian restaurant. Great decor all around. Sampled a number of dishes with our group of 10. The calamari was my favourite by far - crunch on the outdside, but soft on the inside. I'm also a fan of wood fire oven pizza's, especially when there's meat on top, such as the carne pizza. <br/><br/>A few things to work out, such as non-paper menus but they're on their way. Look forward to going again in the future!

Will have to go back again and again and again. Since it's impossible to eat everything on the menu in one visit . My two friends and I did seriously consider trying, but decided that just scheduling several more visits would be the better way to go.<br/>We had:<br/>Fior di Latte with the eggplant caponata - just delicious<br/>Calamari - so light, and you can actually taste the squid - no oily flavour or texture <br/>Warm olives: great assortment (even the non-olive fan in our party found some to enjoy) in a tasty marinade<br/>Proscuitto pizza (the brunch version, with hollandaise and a sous vide poached egg) Fantastic flavours and a creative take on a brunch dish. I had never thought Eggs Benny was begging to be made into a pizza, but it turns out it was a great idea just waiting to happen.<br/>Pasta Bolognese: lovely rich-tasting, chunky meat sauce on al-dente pasta<br/>Panna Cotta - lemon several ways, beautiful vanilla flavour and a absolutely perfect creamy texture<br/>Crostata di Cioccolato - perfectly rich & chocolate. <br/>Salted Caramel Budino - the best pudding ever. Butterscotch on top, with a layer of caramel and sea salt below. Scoop some of each layer out at once for an amazing mix of flavours - and then spend the rest of dessert fighting off everyone else who wants just another taste. Make them get there own. It's worth it. <br/><br/>The house-made limoncello is lovely as well, smooth and light and lemony.

Awesome! Love the atmosphere. Unlimited bread with a chickpea spread- which is to die for! Pizza is classic italian. Calamari is delicious with the pesto. I give this restaurant 9.5/10(nobody is perfect) :-P

Excellent Food. We had been to Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria twice with our friends and family, once for dinner and once for lunch. We were very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food. The food is consistently excellent. Compliment to the Chef. My favourite appetizers are calamari and carpaccio. They were very delicious and the carpaccio just melted in your mouth. We tried couple entree, pizza and pasta and they were equally great tasting and wonderful. We will be back again soon.

Anton Ego standing ovation. Cotto goes beyond it's online description to provide a local perspective on Italy's best. It's no doubt different, and I love every moment of the dining experience from the atmosphere to the selection of food, quality of food and service. Definitely will be back. Thanks Cotto team for a memorable lunch!<br/><br/>Calamari Fritto - the only calamari I've ever eaten and actually enjoyed - not rubbery/greasy at all.<br/>Pizza Carne - I found some of the meats on this a bit fatty, but not sure if that's the style<br/>Pizza Carbonara - very well done 63degree egg! my first time! <br/>Cannoli, Panna Cotta - words don't do it justic... Just gotta see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.

Bright, open concept dining with fabulous food!. We went during their 'soft' opening, which is when you usually expect to get, off service or food, as everyone is learning how to work with each other, and food is still being sorted out. Not so here! Everything was perfect. Great service and fabulous food! Loved their thin crust wood fired pizza. Reminded us of Italy. The deep fried brussel sprout leaves on their Pizza Cotto was a real treat. This was a great pizza and I can't wait to have it again. The Pollo Arrosto 'Maple Hill Farm game hen, balsamic glaze, caramelized cauliflower, eggplant caponata, game hen succo' was just as good and perfectly cooked. Could have eaten the caramelized cauliflower by the bowl full! It's that good! We had started with the Prosciutto e Melone, nice bright flavors, and the prosciutto isn't overly salty as some can be. The micro marinated tomatoes were a nice addition to the dish.<br/>Dessert was the Crostata di Cioccolato, and the cannoli's. The crostata is so heavenly, you won't want to share! They make their own limencello, and oak aged negroni's as well. Can't wait to go back again for dinner, but am also looking forward to trying out their weekend brunch!

Delicious Dinner. Finally a wood burning pizza place in North Burnaby. Girls night and we picked Cotto to try out. We were not dissapointed. I had the Pizza Romana and it was fabulous. The other girls tried the salads and enjoyed them. They also had Tagliatelle and Pasta with Shrimp and said it was delicious. I look forward to returning again now that I don't have to travel to Vancouver to enjoy a great pizza.

I called three times and left one voicemail to ask if I could make a reservation for 16 and they said it was maybe possible but kept telling me to call back. When I finally called back and got a hold of someone they told me that there already was a reservation. I wasted an afternoon. They should have either told me they were booked or taken my phone number. What poor service. I guess large groups are not welcome.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood. Dined at Cotto Enoteca last night and was absolutely blown away. Amazing food, fantastic wine list and sexy room. Chef Alex Tung is a genius.

Never Again. We tried Cotto for the first time tonight.. and boy were we disappointed! The so called large portion of pasta at a wopping $21 was big plate and little food. We also ordered the "must be made out of gold" Chicken at $22 and both portions arrived under cooked. We were so disgusted we left and went to another restaurant to find a decent meal. <br/><br/>The wait staff struggled to explain or even pronounce the Italian menu items - Arugula was the choice for greens in salads and put on other menu items.. ?? So sadly even a starter salad seemed out of the question with only this bitter tasting green available. <br/><br/>A dismal showing... we will never return!

This pizza was quite enjoyable. It’s a thin crust pizza, with a delicious dough. The sauce is not overwhelming and cheese, blends so well with the ham. The arugula gives its a nice refreshing taste to it.  I’ve been to Rome, and eaten pizza there. This pizza di spagna almost brought me back there with its thin crust and mix flavours in toppings. I’ve been to Cotto Encoteca multiple times since the opening. It’s a great alternative to Anton’s Pasta Bar for Italian food in North Burnaby. I came here for a late lunch and left probably three pounds heavier, LOL. Calamari Fritti ($12) with salsa verde. Best calamari I’ve had so far, so much better than the usual at Cactus Club or Joey’s. It was fresh, crispy and piping hot. The salsa verde was a nice change from the chipotle or tzatziki dressing too, I wish more restaurants would do salsa verde dressing. Pappardelle Carbonara ($13) – Been here multiple times and I always make sure to get this. The 63 degree egg with the Carbonara makes a perfectly creamy and rich sauce. There’s also giant-sized pieces of bacon as well (not pictured, it’s under all that pasta). Always a plus :)! Gnocchi Fritti ($14) is a deep-fried gnocchi dish with arugula. I thought there was a bit too much arugula but that’s probably just me. This dish is more appetizing when it’s eaten hot. Once it cooled down,

Looking for Italian in our neighbouring hood, our travel brought us to “Cotto”. Previously “Anduccis’”, an Italian restaurant we too enjoyed. We had tried its latest reincarnation a while ago and were as optimistic then as we were walking in now. On this warm and rainy night we decided to enjoy their covered and heated patio out front. A walk to it lead us on a abbreviated tour through the restaurant. Past the open kitchen right by the entrance. From the window outside I was already impressed by their mosaic tiled pizza oven, standing tall at the height of a grown man. Through the dimly lit dining room we travelled, past the bar. A dining room of small tables and cushioned booths. A bar lined with high tops, standing solid in front of a handsome brick wall. Over it were pyramided shelved housing bottles of wine practically and decoratively. All designed to frame a large flat screen television set, well lit by oversized bulbs hanging low over the bar ‘a counter. We sat on their very mod

Great food except for the Cannellonni with its bitter filling. Good service by the waitress serving us, however it would have been nice to have our water refilled. The hostess had a bit of an attitude (no smile/no friendliness) and the bartender made a rude comment at the end of the day when we ordered dessert at 10:40 PM (the restaurant closed at 10:30). The waitress is the one who asked us if we would like anything for dessert. Not only that, but another table was still working on their meal.. The bartender asked the waitress after she took our dessert order, "Why are you still taking orders?" To which she replied that it was just dessert. He didn't even care that he was asking in front of us where we could hear him. I think the if the service staff act just a tad friendlier, it will be great for business.

The pizza entry that Cotto has created is called Pizza Di Spagna, and yes, just as yummy as it looks.

I’ll make the conclusion short and sweet. The food was less-than-mediocre. I will not visit the restaurant again – not unless they rethink their menu, hire someone who knows about food to really improve the quality of their food, and retrain their staff to faithfully follow the process of creating neapolitan pizzas.<br/>

We were expecting the portion size to be bigger since it cost $8, but the ingredients and presentation were superb, so I guess it justifies it a little.

Looking at some of the signature dishes we found the Pizza Cotto -  Yukon Gold potato, Sloping Hill pancetta, fried brussel sprout leaves, Gorgonzola dolce, fonduta I enjoyed the flavours of this pizza, quite subtle but very tasty

The Polpetti was not great or memorable. I would tell you to order something else. The salmon was good an unique that it is worth a recommendation.

Our first appetizer was the calamari fritto ($11). We were all impressed with how much calamari was on the plate. This was some of the best calamari I’ve ever had. The batter was very light and very crispy.

The three magical letters VPN elevates pizzerias to respected establishments, but does Cotto Enoteca deserve this rating? That’s up to the elitists in Naples to decide. Given that Neapolitan pizzas is fiercely competitive in the last few years in Vancouver, especially around the Downtown core, it is good that Cotto Enoteca stayed out of harms way. However, it is still a solid Italian restaurant with bricked oven baked, VPN certified Neapolitan pizzas, which happened to be the only one in this quiet Burnaby neighborhood.

Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria is a hidden gem in North Burnaby. It is a modern Italian restaurant, focusing on authentic VPN certified Neapolitan pizza and updated Italian cuisine. Plus it has a pretty decent heated patio (though is a bit noisy with all the traffic, they do a good job shielding it with trees and etc.) and excellent customer service! They’re also super active on social media so if you have menu or reservation questions, tweet them ! Cotto’s Neapolitan pizza is ranked #447 in the world by  Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana   . #449 might seem low..but this INCLUDES restaurants in Italy and New York. So…actually it’s not too shabby! We arrived on a Tuesday, which means it’s 12.00 pasta night at Cotto. Woho! They have a variety of specials including $12 pizza Mondays! You can check them all out here. We ordered the Burrata as an appetizer for $12. It is soft cow milk cheese, roasted pepper caponata, red wine syrup and rosemary forno bread. LOVED the burrata, the cheese was sof

Cotto Enoteca can definitely hold its own against Nicli Antica, and it’s closer to me, so I might end up making repeat visits to try more of these pizzas. They also have Italian beers like the excellent Bruton Lilith. Beer and pizza, what could be better?

Cotto Enoteca Pizzeria is a new restaurant located in North Burnaby. Anducci’s used to be in the same location. They serve italian cuisine with authentic Neapolitan pizza and classic Italian dishes. It’s a nice change to have more restaurant like these in the area. There is available parking in front and around the adjacent streets. I came with Lensflaaare and Flo to chill after a long day. I ordered a beer as it was a nice day out on the patio. What better way to de-stress with some beer. Limoncello was very tiny like a shot. We thought it would be more like a cocktail type of drink since it was a bit expensive. Lensflaaare really tried to savour this drink. Calamari Fritto ($11) is crispy fried squid with roasted roma tomato and salsa verde. It was crispy on the outside with alight batter. The squid was tender and delicious. Gnocchi Patata (Small -$12) has fried potato gnocchi, Sloping Hill pancetta, Parmigiano-Reggiano, arugula, and herb oil. I really liked this dish because it was

That being said, there was one glitch...complimentary bread and dip was not served. Yes...that light crisp bread with that delicious truffle oil bean dip...mmm...yum.

Now that it's a bit wet and cold here in Vancouver, it's a good time to go and revisit Cotto Enoteca for some comfort food. Pasta and Pizzas from a wood-burning oven...what better to warm you up, right?!<br/>Starting off with an appetizer of Cotto Polpette, our hunger was immediately satisfied. The house made meatballs are smothered in a tomato sauce, and served with a few pieces of baguette. I liked it better when these were served with pizza bread, but it will do for now.
Eating In Vancouver
The fountain of baby arugula spread nicely upon service and balanced the saltiness of the chorizo sausage well. Diners may notice some excess chorizo oil on their plates while eating which conveniently serves as a nice ‘sauce’ for the final crust.

My goodness, this salted caramel budino from Cotto Enoteca was truly amazing.
My Secret Eden
Cotto had really nice decor with very upscale finishing. I loved the all glass windows that let in tons of light. The restaurant was a good size that can certainly accomodate large groups if you reserve in advance. Also they had lots of parking in the adjcent lot.
