A classic, greasy, fish and chips joint. The fish always has a crunchy and fresh batter to it. They have AYCE from Mon-Weds which is a really good deal, albeit super unhealthy! It is a popular place for high school students to go during lunch break, as Burnaby North Secondary is a few minutes walk away.
If you are looking for fish and chips you can't go wrong coming here. Hot and fresh out of the fryer. The only thing I would like to see if they started making their own tartar sauce instead of store bought.
I would recommend this restaurant.
Monday - Wednesday. All you can eat fish and chips. You get a soda with that as well free refills. Juicy hot battered fish that will burn your mouth, no pain no yummy, but with some fresh dank tartar sauce and you got a nice sexy time in your mouth. Hot fresh fries as well, kinda like Triple O's fries. Before you start, wave the waitress down and ask for another plate cause you're a monster. You're here to eat get your pesos worth. Eat at least 2 plates before you leave. Delicious.
They have all you can eat M, T, W. Great price for all you can eat too. It's busy around dinner time so do come early. The batter is perfect...not to thick. This is our go to place when we are craving fish and chips.
Atmosphere: It's always busy around dinner time, lots of yelling in the kitchen, people entering and leaving. Love it. Service: Friendly people and servers who work hard for their tips. Bottom line: I grew up eating Cockney Kings fish and chips so there is a slight bias. But over the years, the quality has been consistently good. Their chips aka fries are truly the pinnacle of fries. They are the best, hands down. I do this thing with their packaged ketchup and tartar sauce and combined them together. I think it becomes a Thousand Island-like sauce and I dip my fish and chips into it. Drool...
Mmmmmm so good!! Best fish and chips ever. So worth the price. Homemade tartar sauce is amazing. All together just a great place. definitely a must try!!
This place is by my old high school and now 10 mins away from where I go now, SFU! I've never actually tried the Fish and chips here, but their poutine is SO DELICIOUS. A good sized portion for $5.25 and with lots of gooey cheese, hot gravy and freshly made chips (fries)! I come down from campus sometimes when I'm craving these!
I drove by this restaurant after work. People said that the fish and chips were good here, so I gave it a try. I was asking for to go as I did not want to eat the fish and chips at the restaurant by myself.
The interior design shows that if is a very old and classic British type of restaurant. I visited this restaurant around 5pm. The restaurant was having some customers eating in. Some customers were waiting at the counter or entrance of the restaurant and ordering take out. So did I. The restaurant has an open kitchen, so everybody can see how they cook the fish and chips as well as other food. All the servers were very nice and friendly. One of the servers took my order wrong. I asked for a one piece of halibut and chips but she entered two pieces for me. I corrected her politely and said I wanted to order the one piece one. She apologized a couple times.
Waiting for the take out was very short, so I as a customer who doesn't like to wait for a super long time could pick up my order quickly. I was very happy! I told the server that it was my first time to try the fish and chips here. He said the fish was really good and are the fish here every day. Haha..
I brought the fish and chips home. The halibut was very crispy and tender. I loved it!! The fries were just average. I could have eaten better fries somewhere else but I think the most important thing was the fish!
In terms of pricing at this restaurant, I think their prices are fair and reasonable. They are located right on East Hastings, so the visibility on the street is quite good. They have parking in front of the restaurant.
I wouldn't mind to come back and eat again!
no matter what happens i think i'm still a big fan of all you can eat, deep fried, and carbs. And this place have it all for all you can eat fish and chips every monday to wednesdays :D the place is in a open mall type of setting. what i always wondered is the place is often filled with seniors, and yet i have always wondered that these kind of food are not always the best option to consume.
but never theless the food here is definitely okay, and for the price for all you can eat, if i can eat 8 or more pieces of fish and 2 refilled fries, i'll be alright and left the restaurant with a smile on my face. so yes the food hmmmmm the fish okay i they use pollack if i'm not mistaken for the all you can eat, definitely okay, although salmon is definitely my favorite, and it's not super super oily, but definitelyl deep fried, and the batter is okay, still thicker than what i want them to be, but still okay and crispy.
overall i would love to be here once in a while chowing down the fishes for a deepfried fish and chips cravings.
There was a wait list when we arrived. There were a few empty tables. However, the waitresses had not gotten around to cleaning them. We were seated after about 10-15 minutes. Baby-Paca mentioned how Cockney Kings would be a super chill place to work, since everyone moved at their own pace.
On Mondays-Wednesdays, Cockney Kings offers all you can eat fish and chips for $10.95. Initially, I was just going to order off the menu, since I've been trying to reduce calorific intake (without much accomplishment, because let's face it, food is too good, and I get really hungry whenever I have classes. All that brain power, right?!). But after looking at the prices, I changed my mind seeing as all you can eat was obviously a much better deal. The paper setting has Cockney slangs printed on them, and it has colouring, connect the dots, etc. on the back to keep kids entertained. I always have a good laugh going through the placemats while waiting for food to arrive.
The all you can eat comes with bottomless soda pop. Baby-Paca had 2 refills of her ginger ale before I even finished one glass. The fish in the all you can eat fish and chips is the pollock variety. We had a whole bottle of Cockney Kings' delicious tartar sauce at our disposal. The pollock was piping hot, flaky, moist and tender. The British style batter was fried to crispy golden perfection without being overly greasy. However, I would've liked if the fish itself was seasoned as it lacked sodium if eaten without tartar sauce. As for the chips, they were fresh and full of potato-y goodness, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Baby-Paca and I had a satisfying meal. I had ruined my diet plans for the day, but it was worth it. Since we've moved back to the North Burnaby area, I think we'll come by more often now that we actually remember this place. Baby-Paca said she's heard that the poutine here was good, but they had run out of cheese curds. I guess we'll have to save it for next time!
I have had the halibut a few times and I totally enjoyed it. .Last time I had the calamari and it was the best. Not to much batter and perfectly cooked not chewy at all.
One of the best fish and chips restaurants in the lower mainland. Their food is pretty solid (but not THE best in my opinion) but what makes them earn a high score is their weekly specials. All you can eat fish and chips for $10? Heck ya.
The place to go for Fish & Chips. Cockney Kings Fish & Chips has been an established restaurant since... well, for a long, long time.
Yes, they have an "All You Can Eat" night, but it's not "All You Can Eat" halibut fish. They'd be out of business if it was halibut, cod is just as good.
It's not a fancy decor inside, but it's family-friendly, and I enjoy seeing all the elderly people from the neighborhood coming out to eat; the food is consistent. The only thing that may be a negative is the "take-out" orders; they're sometimes smaller in portion, than eating in the dining room.
Advice: Don't eat at any establishment all the time, that's why ratings go downhill, because your expectations can't sustain the "double" thumbs-up all the time.
This is a great fish and chips joint. The service is excellent and friendly. The portions are generous but I love going during the all you can eat special for pollock and chips. There is a lot of batter on the fish but it makes it taste delicious.
Yummay!. I went to this place after reading these positive reviews and I was not disappointed.
Food: I haven't had Fish&Chips this good for some time. The portions are MASSIVE, with each piece looking to be about 10-12 inches long. Quality and quantity. Just the right amount of grease, batter, and juice in the fish and the fries were also tasty. Much better than you'd get at other restaurants in the GVRD.
Service: The food took less than 5 minutes to arrive, and was prepared right after our order. The restaurant was fairly full, but we were taken care of and did not have to wait long for anything. I haven't had that kind of service from more expensive restaurants.
Value: The price for a massive F&C platter is under $10. Since the food tastes good, the value is outstanding.
Ambiance: the only 'failing' is that Cockney Kings is a greasy spoon in terms of appearance. There are the usual English trinkets on the walls, but it is certainly not the place for a fancy date. What do you expect for a casual F&C place? The cockney slang table mats were good for a chuckle, though.
Love love love. All you can eat fish say WHAT! the fish is juicy and the batter is not too thick, i would say it's done just right. for the good price of $10 all you can eat fish you can't go wrong!
Fish Tacos an delightful find. While at the Hastings Cockeny King I decided to try
the fish tacos. I was a bit nervous, it being a british fish place.
However I soon discovered how amazing they were.
3 very good size tacos, and the what-what sauce was
soooo good!!
I will be getting them again for sure.
Much better than expected.. Ok, we had low expectations going in and we were happy with it - we'll even go back! The shrimp tacoes were great: fresh, crunchy, spicy, and yummy. The lightly battered halibut was very good, we ordered the fries crispy (mediocre fries though) and they gave us a full squeeze bottle of tartar sauce. Very satisfying and quite a surprise.
Better than average but pricy. Their fish and chips are pretty good. Better than most, but not the best I've had. A bit pricy though.
Great tasting. The price of their ayce is awesome and comes with pop.
Whenever I have fish and chips, I go to Cockney Kings.
Not the best you will ever have, but very good english style fish and chips, the take out and all u can eat prices are super cheap, you can't beat it!!
All You Can Eat Fish & Chip Mon. - Wed. is a Meal Deal!. My family and I have been coming to this long established English style Fish & Chip shop for many years. The biggest appeal is good value most times -- occasionally once in a blue moon the food or service are off, but this is generally due to the crowds on All You Can Eat (Cod, Chips & Pop) served Mondays - Wednesdays rushing the staff and kitchen. In the last 10 years the A-Y-C-E special has gone up from $5.95 to $9.50 as of late 2010. Consistency and taste better than average 9 out of 10 times -- Fried fish is crisp, moist, not greasy; chips are crisp outside, soft inside and not greasy. While other reviewers said that the pop was flat, you just have to ask your server to change your drink. Its certainly more fizzy than fountain pop served in other neighbourhood restaurants around town... Coleslaw and gravy are tasty too.
Charlie Criticist. Excellent Fish & Chips specialist. I have been going off and on since 1965. The menu and quality remain the same. My hope is that they do not sell out to people who will introduce their own ethnic food to the menu, as happened at Austin Fish & Chips in Coquitlam. Service is still okay although when I asked for coffee when being seated the person seating us said I would have to wait for my waitress. When paying I was short changed $5.00 and when I pointed it out to the person running the till he did not seem at all surprised or apologetic. Made me wonder if it was a mistake. Closing time is 8:00pm making it a bit of a rush for us to go after work.
Fish&Chips lovers. Love it. Seriously, you HAVE to try their halibut. They also have a buffet for the all you can eat. I forgot which days though. It's just perfect, I've fell in love with their food instantly!
