Review The Pear Tree Restaurant - Burnaby

Love their new reopening menu. Great selection of fresh ingredients combined with the skill and creativity of the chef, our meals were perfect. Wine pairing is a must as each dish does require a different partnering drink. Wonderful atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff. This was my second time visiting the restaurant, and it was every bit as good as the first. Food is a mix of French and West Coast, with some classic dishes like duck breast and lamb shank. For this visit, I had the 3 course dinner menu for $69. It started with baked kusshi oysters, a bit different from raw shucked but still very fresh and delicious. For main I had a creative dish of partridge (at Pear Tree, get it?), while my wife had duck breast. Both dishes were excellent, well presented and tasty. For dessert I had chocolate mouse cake with rhubarb sorbet. Even though menu was relatively small, every dish was superbly executed. The only point of improvement would be I thought the service was not very attentive, and a bit lacking for a fine dining restaurant.

Food: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Ambience: 4/5 Had the Valentine’s Day special $90 per person Ambience: Small restaurant, simple decorations. A little cold if your table is near the door. Service: Quick — takes your order, brings your food and collects your dishes. Not much conversation. No one asked us through our 4-course meal if everything was ok or the taste until we asked for the bill. The server gave us a rose when we left which was a nice touch. Food: Lobster Cappuccino - This is their signature dish. It is supposed to be a light and airy lobster bisque. HOWEVER, it was extremely salty and not much lobster taste. It tasted like light and airy butter with lots of salt. Disappointed as it was WAY TOO SALTY for me to even finish. Mushroom Pasta - Again, salty. Not much mushroom flavor, similar flavors to lobster cappuccino oddly. The sauce needed to be thicker to coat the pasta. Seared Scallops (my partner’s dish) - Seared perfectly. Sides were salty. Duck Breast - Cooked perfectly but needed salt. Duck breast was tender. However, there wasn’t much flavor due to lack of salt. Roasted Pork Jowl (my partner’s dish) - Pork was tender and skin was crispy. This dish needed salt. Felt that the asparagus tart side didn’t pair well with the flavors of pork. Creme Brûlée (my partner’s dish) - Way TOO sweet, couldn’t even finish it. But it was smooth. Overall: Each dish is very inconsistent in terms of saltiness — some were way too salty and others were bland. Not worth the 45 min drive. I would rather go eat in downtown instead. Quality is average compared to Vancouver standards. However, may be a dining option if you are in the Burnaby area to try out.

They accommodated our last minute reservation and didn't make us wait for all guests to show up before seating us, as some restaurants do. Most importantly, the food was delicious, including all the garnishes. Some of the items on the menu were available in both appetizer size and entree size. We all ate everything on our plates.

Had the lobster cappuccino and scallop risotto to start. Amazing flavours, great plating and good sized portion for an appie. Mains were very good. The chef accommodated a small request no problem. Service was attentive, timely and professional. Highly recommend going to this Burnaby staple! Excellent place for date night or celebrations! I will definitely return and recommend to everyone.

A great menu! Came here recently for a birthday celebration and Pear Tree did not disappoint. Started with their signature pear salad and the was delicious. I ordered the scallop risotto as the main and the portion was generous as it came with 8 pcs of scallops! My friend ordered the duck and it was 👌 and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Dessert probably would be ranked thr lowest for the lemon tart. Just was a little flat (unfair as I just had the lemon tart from chez Christophe and it was divine). The cocktail list was standard but still enjoyable. Overall would recommend for a nice meal out with a small group (small restaurant).

It was one of the best dining restaurants I have been to. The price is very reasonable and I very much loved what I had. Service here is very friendly and professional. Definitely coming back!
