To put it simply Burro is the best restaurant in Burlington for tacos at the time of this review, On my first visit we were seated within minutes, had our drinks in another few minutes and selected a few tacos. This is where Burro impressed me, I've been cooking both as a hobby/profession for nearing a decade and most of the time when I eat food around Burlington (specifical tacos) they lack flavor and taste worse than if I had simply made them myself.
Burro is different, the Tacos that I had (Classic / Achiote Chicken / Charred Broccoli & Summer Corn) all were delicious, my favorite was the Classic due to its cheaper price and overall flavor being above average in comparison to many things I have put in my mouth over the years. The Classic also threw me off because it tasted like there was a hot sauce on it but the hot sauce seemed to lack heat and was more of a sweet variant with a very very mild heat that wasn't present for the whole time I consumed the taco but hit me a few minutes later.
The one thing I wished they had were entrees of ceviche, their ceviche offerings are limited to one dish that also happened to be a 'sampler' (as described by our waitress) which is a bit of a letdown as Burlington doesn't have many ceviche offerings. Their drinks seem pricey but they are also fairly strong if I had to guess I would put them at around 2oz of liquor which is a larger shot than the average for Burlington which I put around 1oz most places.
Burro also has a great patio, tons of shade, a decent amount of space and it's in a cozy little section off to the side of the restaurant. I would highly recommend Burro to any taco lover, now all they need is Taco Tuesday!!
Last night was my first time at Burro. I have been to the Mule, The Other Bird's other taco location, and was not disappointed. While I do still like the Mule, I loved Burro. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this location. I asked a lot of questions about the tacos and our waitress was more than happy to answer all of them. She was very friendly, helpful and honest, which was great. I ordered the Bourbon Chicken and The Three Little Pigs Tacos and both were delicious. My party also ordered a fish taco, Brussel sprouts taco, Sweet Potato and Curry Cauliflower. I sampled all of these, and there wasn't one that I did not enjoy! My only complaint would be there is no Queso on the menu (one of my favourite menu items at The Mule), but I definitely will be back and will recommend Burro to family and friends! Thank you :D
Pros: The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The tacos were pretty good, and they had a good variety that made use of fresh ingredients. The cocktails were really well done too.
Cons: The prices are too high in my opinion. The tacos are good, but they don't have the authenticity that mexican food elsewhere does. The flavours were just a little lacking.
Lovely small place with an intimate seating arrangement. Food quality was good, drinks were really nice and the overall vibe of the place was pretty good too. Because the place is tight, you are advices to reserve your table in advance. Parking should be easy to find; either street parking or look for nearby lots. Overall experience was great, definitely recommended for some nice vegetarian as well as non vegetarian options.
So Jen was our server and she was great, the tacos are small but pack alot of punch, I can eat alot, and three wasn't quite enough for me. So we tried the following tacos and I will rank them in order of preference 5. Cease and Desist, 4. Pulled Pork 3. The Basa Nova 2. The Mole Fried Chicken and 1. Was far and above..... the Sweet Potato and Halloumi (we did hot sauce on the side). We also tried the Holy Frijoles and highly recommend getting something as a starter first. The only drawback was the price for the amount of food you get, but I couldn't bring myself to deduct a star for it, because what you do get is very tasty fresh quality food. Also, try the Ginger Snap, it was great. Thank me later. 😉
Delicious tacos. Guac and queso were also yummy and chips were served fresh and warm. All the food is gluten free as well! Friendly service to top it off.
They have a cute and cozy side patio that we chose to sit in. Their food menu is divided to “Tacos” and “Not Tacos”. We ordered “Chorizo, Cotija & Pork Belly Nachos” for appetizer and Margaritas for drink. I enjoyed my drink a lot since I love Tequila.
For entrée, we ordered “Fish Taco” and “Beef Cheek Taco”. Fish taco was amazing and very delicious; I strongly recommend it. If I go there again, I will order 10 Fish Tacos with Margarita and nothing else! Lol!
