I'm kicking myself for not having tried this fantastic restaurant sooner!
We had a fantastic dining experience for lunch today. Our server was friendly and extremely knowledgeable about all of the dishes, making suggestions with ease and answering all of our questions.
I felt like having all new food (to me), so I ordered the Methu Vada to share with my friend. It had such a lovely crunch on the outside and a tender, light inside. The sweet tamarind sauce was truly delightful; with a hint of sour at the tip of my tongue, and sweet towards the back, it was full of complimentary and contrasting flavours. The coconut sauce was so light and creamy, I could have had it as a beverage! I also enjoyed the tomato sauce (this is not your typical tomato sauce as we know it here... you will love it) and had a great time giving each sauce their turn.
The complimentary soup was presented in an adorable little pot with two small bowls, and it was so dreamy, I could have eaten 10 bowls of it. The herbs and vegetables melded together, with just the right amount of spice to it. Nothing overpowering, but more like a warming heat. We also enjoyed a fabulous mango shake that was perfectly refreshing on this very hot day.
My friend had the Chicken Briyani, which was also presented beautifully, accompanied by perfect hard-boiled egg (I got jealous,I admit) and a yogurt sauce to blend in, which I always enjoy in a dish like this. She thoroughly enjoyed the meal - and I could tell just by looking at it that the chicken was tender and juicy.
Now, I'm ashamed to admit I never heard of Dosas until recently. So I decided that I absolutely must give it a shot. I had no idea what to expect, I was basically going on a blind date with my food. Never have I ever had such an experience. I ordered the Paneer Masala Dosa. It came out and my jaw dropped. It was a gigantic, beautifully golden brown, crepe-like, mysterious masterpiece of delicious. I broke off a piece and tried it without any of the sauces, and it had a hint of sour that was so light and soft yet not overly so, there was a touch of crunch that rounded it all out. The sauces accompanying it were the same as our appetizer (YES!) but also included a cilantro sauce. Cilantro happens to be one of my best friends. Once I got further in, I got to the cheese and the filling, and let me say that it was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked and I couldn't have asked for more. In fact, I had to take about half home as I'm a very light eater...
That being said, at this point we were blown away. But, there's more! We were happily surprised with a couple of samosas as we were paying! They were so genuinely grateful, and very sincere hosts. Again, our server was fantastic, so very professional and courteous. We will absolutely recommend this to EVERYONE in town. And I know that we will be back, many times. Thank you so much, Golden Taste of Asia! You made our day!
Amazing flavors. I had the Chili Chicken (dry) with naan with a simosa for dinner. I got Butter Chicken with garlic naan for my lunch tomorrow. Try it, you won't be disappointed.
Food is absolutely amazing. A true gem in our town. If you haven't tried this place yet, I highly suggest you do!
Excellent price point and truly authentic cuisine! We will defiantly be eating here again!
